In retrospect, should it be considered a masterpiece?
No other sequel has tried to take huge risks and radically subvert expectations like this one.
Danganronpa V3
garbage ending
all the good characters killed off by chapter 4
shit game
It's a love it or hate it type of game due to the ending. I personally love it, but do think it beats you over the head with the message in the final trial a bit too long. If it was 30m-60m shorter it'd be perfect.
It's on par with the final season of The Wire for being the best way to make fun of your fanbase without actually making fun of them.
stop asking for more Danganronpa you worthless shitters
W-WAIT PLEASE BUY MY NEW GAME I AM GOING BANKRUPT AAAIIIEEE
I don't particularly hold Danganronpa 1 and 2 to some high regard but V3 is just fucking garbage.
V3 is the best game.
That guy was the only character I liked.
Great taste.
The ending made me skip straight to that board game minigame thing.. i didnt bother doing the "social link" stuff with the remaining characters like i did with DR 1 and 2.... cause it was all "made up bullshit" anyway lol.
I didnt mind the ending per se, it was a bit of a mindblowing clusterfuck but it retroactively ruined the characters for me
Had the worst cast of characters and the worst cases. People hate way too much on the ending and forget that most of the game is shit.
By far the worst villian in the series and was so bad at it that his "masterplan" was a complete failure.
Stories aren't good because they're subversive, and retconning your entire franchise as some intelligent gotcha was the dumbest fucking thing Kodaka ever did.
Funny enough it lead to nobody buying his games anymore and him begging for Hundred Line sales on twitter lmao.
His master plan only failed because Kusodaka thought it was be hecking epic to make everything not matter anymore.
Kokichi isn't a villain. He's not even an antagonist. Tsumugi is an antagonist.
The best boy from this series.
Masterpiece no, but it's got the best ending out of the three because it finally dispenses with the hope/despair bullshit and shits on chigyus. I have no idea how you can watch the Danganronpa anime and not understand that this series needed to die immediately, and this was the mercy kill it needed. Say what you will about asspulls and Kodaka writing but he was 100% on the money with this one
V3 has the best ending but the rest of the game is ass, it’s like the inverse of the others
This.
I still don't understand why people feel personally offended by this game.
It's kino.
bro does not know what villain means
Junko, Izuru, Monaca and Tsumugi are Danganronpa villains/antagonists
DR2 > V3 > DR1
V3's twist is that it's supposed to be poorly written, at least. DR1 actually tries, and it's miraculously worse. Overall, 5/10 trilogy.
buying his games anymore and him begging for Hundred Line sales on twitter lmao
It was all a PR tactic bullshit... he recently announced a brand new game just now. Hundred line either sold """decently"""" or it was all a lie and people fall for it (just like his characters do lol)
i'm seconding this, in general i respect the ending but the rest of the game feels extremely bad or derivative on purpose, which yeah maybe that's the point, but it's still not good.
The series absolutely needed to end by this point and I'm glad it has, I just don't understand why Kodaka kept going with this concept as an indie.
This image actually makes sense if you played all games.
Kingdom hearts is actually 10x more complicated crap than Danganronpa would ever even dream to be lol.
Not sure wtf "hyper reality" or Chiaki being real means tho
>DR2 > V3 > DR1
100% agreed, this is how it is.
DR1 is the worst by far gameplay-wise and twists wise and music-wise too, even though it was by far the most "grounded" of the trilogy.
V3's ending is weird, but DR2 is an absolute masterpiece in everything, and has by FAR the best music and setting
2 shits the ending but 2-5 basically gave me the real conclusion anyway since as far as i'm concerned Nagito is the real antagonist of dr2 and the entire story up till that point is dealing with him while the mastermind stuff waits in the background
muh risks and subversion
These alone do not make a great game., and I'm tired faggots acting like they do.
DR2's ending is the worst one. And Hajime is the worst protagonist. The rest is good.
Yeah Nagito is an absolute S tier character, he reaaaally carried DR2 so hard it's unreal. Love that crazy fucker so much
Hajime worst
ending worst
i dunno bout that, i really enjoyed both. Hajime sounded like a fag in japanese dub, i liked his english more low pitched /mature voice better
Hajime was an insufferable bitch.
Why are they always evil, insane women?
you could say fiction doesnt stray too far from reality.
Based Kodaka
For me its 1>3>2 but I love them all. I usually find the first game the best in series since a lot of the core ideas originate there. Like you said it's more grounded. I feel like 2 gets a little ridiculous with the whole junko taking over the world stuff.
Character wise I think 2 is my favorite group though. Nagito being like anti-makoto is great
if they make a 4th game they should just rip-off Fnaf and go "oh yeah Danganronpa is a game series but it's based on real events in the distant past that has been scrubbed from history by the Jewish Despair" or some shit like that as damage control
Those two are totally compatible tho. Are you dumb on purpose?
if they make a 4th game
They don't
Kodaka is such a hack, he can't write endings. All the games have their peak at chapter 5 and then 6 shits the bed.
Agree. The whole franchise peaked at 2-5
It feels like everything was building up for that case
it's kinda retarded that they show real people during the last trial to show that they're talking about the real world
but it turns out it's a "real" world within the game still
because it finally dispenses with the hope/despair bullshit
The series proudly wearing a hope and despair conflict on its shoulder was great actually, stories written in earnest will always be better than subversive slop that doesn't want to commit to anything.
And even then if you look past surface level, it's still presenting the same exact hope vs despair ideology (break from your fate and build your own future, or succumb to the hellish and monotonous cycle you've been advocating for over 50 seasons) it's the same exact shit lmao, arguably almost beat for beat compared to DR2.
V3 didn't have much identity which was part of the intent, but still. 1 was apocalyptic school and 2 was a beach resort. V3 was all kinds of things.
As for the cases, V3 was the worst to figure out since the schemes were so elaborate there was no room for other potential suspects.
Thats well said, anon. Agreed
I liked the ending plot twist the best out of all games (though 2's was beyond horrible so the bar isn't very high).
I'm glad it was written in such a way to kill any potential sequel, prequel, inbetween episode, reboot or anything other future dead horse franchise milking.
Game is honestly alright up until the ending. I actually think the cast is mostly pretty solid. Maybe someday we'll get that pipe dream DISTRUST-inspired Danganronpa 1 rewrite I have floating around my head...
All the protagonists are generic slop, but Makoto's unironically the worst MC I've ever played as.
The whole time I'm thinking, "Why does he exist? Why am I not just playing as Kyoko instead? It would make more sense from a gameplay standpoint."
Instead, you're stuck playing as the Ultimate Dumbass while Kyoko condescendingly spoon-feeds you everything, even though the average person playing the game is smarter than both, creating the most patronizing slog of my life.
God, DR1's just such a mess.
Honestly insane how DR1 has the best atmosphere and setting of the series and also simultaneously the least interesting cast.
omeday we'll get that pipe dream DISTRUST-inspired Danganronpa 1
The whole commander killing part of Hundred Line academy (dont worry not a spoiler) actually gave me a lot of DISTRUST vibes. A a lot of darkness, blood and violence.
I guess thats as close as we get
Kill Danganronpa
Creators slither on to create danganronpa but not really
Did they do the right thing?
Finally two anons speaking out against Makoto and his cringeyness, i dont hate him exactly but Kyoko was vastly superior to him, at least Hajime is a much better protagonist and much less of a fucking wuss.
And yeah the cast of DR1 werent that great, and the survivors is total bullshit. Cant believe mr "dood weed" actually survived and he's still useless even in Ultra despair Girls anyway.
I have only played 1 and 2 but they were slop games made for children, especially 2. I can't stand how drawn out they are, like they have to make sure 80IQ Brazilian niggers understand the plot so it just repeats everything over and over. Is 3 any better?
1- youi have absolute SHIT taste lil faggit.
2- if you hated even DR2 which was a masterpiece, you'll absolutely HATE V3. Dont bother, go play other real slop.
Please read any mystery novel ever written if you want to see what a decent plot looks like. Even shit like Umineko and Phoenix Wright are less patronizing. I guess that's my problem; I'm too well read to be anything but appalled by DR writing.
I READ
Ok
Phoenix wright is MUCH more boring crap than DR and much less fun to play through, miss me with that gay shit.
Anyway if you want superior VNs go play 999 and VLR if you dont like Danganronpa's less serious side and want something darker.
I did play those, they are better, but still really verbose and coddling. 999 was the least bad, while zero time dilemma was the worst holy shit. I rage remembering how bad the cutscenes and dialogue were in that one. You have to not respect your own time or intellect to click through that shit for so many hours. None of them have a text speed setting that is reasonably quick.
Okay.. so shitposting and arguments aside, whats (your) favorite , or top two fav VNs to read? clearly it's not 999/VLR/DR , so what is it? im curious to see what your high standards are
Hard to recommend VLR when half of it is sequel bait and ZTD is arguably dumber than anything Kodaka has written.
and ZTD is arguably dumber than anything Kodaka has written.
COMPLEX
I have never read a VN that comes close to a high tier book, and so I've not read many. My favorite VN is probably 999 or Umineko or Devil on G String. Unfortunately none of them are actually good and I'd recommend everyone just read a book.
Just read books
lol no thx bro.
It was because the idea was still fresh. The school felt like a real place the characters were trapped inside, and monokuma felt like a sick fuck torturing these kids for amusement, and not a gameshow host. Unfortunately I don't think it'd have been possible to write him with that degree of presence except for the first time
Half the point of Kokichi is that his mindset of "the rubes have to be deceived and manipulated in order to be saved" ends up being incorrect.
