HUMILIATION RITUAL OF THE YEAR

What's next for Marathon?

It's actually over

Is this the director?

whats marathon

Cancellation

Something that isn't going to come out, and if it does, it will shut down in a month.

New extraction slop made by Bungie

it doesnt look bad, but I still don't understand why would I play it over anything else in the genre. It seems like the whole scifi stuff is just for looks and the gameplay is still the same as the average ext. shooter.

brb suicide

Something that should have been a new IP but had a legacy name slapped onto to it for hype. At this point I believe everyone subconsciously knew this shit would suck ass but sunk-cost fallacy and self-delusion was stronger.

but I still don't understand why would I play it over anything else in the genre

Bungie thinks their name still carries weight so they expect people will want to try it out simply because their logo pops up when the game boots.

I don't think i've ever seen someone look so dead inside. holy shit.

Something that should have been a new IP but had a legacy name slapped onto to it for hype.

I don't understand this, nobody under 30 even knew what Marathon was. I'm 32 and it's still an obscure mac game that wasn't in my conscious until this reboot was announced. If they were planning to run the name for brand recognition, I'm sure the half dozen 39 year olds who had rich parents with a max computer in the mid 90's are stoked (or not)

A commander card

You're guess is as good as mine, but I think people up top high on their own farts plays in big part.

Someone call the pigs to check on him

Inb4

If there was a Pulitzer award for pictures taken to the most buck broken individual, well...

Marathon is: FPS; hobby-grade coop campaign; genre-blended, multi-mode competitive e-sports; meta-growth, choice + epic Marathon Heroes!

everything that looks remotely well done is just animations from Destiny 2.

I know that Scoutrifle firing RPM and animations anywhere, its the Rapidfire frame scoutrifle archetype from Destiny 2.

apex legends looks worse than i remember...

If only you knew how bad things really are.

this dude looks like he got fired this morning and is being forced to puppet himself for a few more days on live stream

nobody under 30 even knew what Marathon was.

I'm 28 and even though I remember having played it on my father's old Mac as a kid, I still think of it as nothing more than a shitty sci-fi DooM clone.

I remember that Pritchford twitter post.

Pat has really let himself go since BFP.

fucking lmao, I see that titan punch
it really is a reskinned Destiny 2

If it was free and I could just play it off steam instead of whatever bullshit launcher (that requires a PSN account) they're gonna use then I'd try it for a weekend before uninstalling it. No fucking way am I spending $40 on it though

Why did Bungie management made this poor bastard go through this? Was it some form of punishment?

You know what niggas Dark and Darker mobile might be my favorite Extraction game.

well the company is very well aware that everyone HATE HATE HATES his art for Marathon.

so much so that its probably the deciding factor on the initial negative reaction to the game, its just too fucking ugly Portlandia fag-fashion Neo-runway shit.

Art Raiders

Help, I can't find my sides.

made it even worse by constantly checking the unmoderated chat

They sent him out for the slaughter. He never stood a chance.

What Halo avoided becoming with the Infinite soft reboot (it's now Marvelslop).

Kinda feel bad for the guy considering he's not even the one who did it but he still has to deal with the fallout for it.

Unmoderated chat

It actually blows my mind how out of touch some companies are with live streams

It's interesting how you can tell if a video game is going to be good or not by simply looking at the developers

Untitled.png - 1375x464, 862.76K

That punch animation is literally a 1:1 port of the exact same animation from Destiny, not a single frame of it is different.

Shit looks worse art-direction wise than S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2.

exact same skeleton, firing rate and gunplay as the Rapid-Fire Scoutrifles, specifically the bullpup ones.

they just reused all their D2 assets to make this game.

images.jpg - 300x168, 9.8K

How the fuck do they not just scrap this project entirely? EVERYONE knows this is a flop, the writing isn't on the wall. They aren't going to win anyone over, that's what the alpha was for and that flopped too. Just cancel it now rather than humiliate themselves with another Concord.

I do also cry when angels deserve to die

1000032944.jpg - 1280x720, 231.28K

There is one of two possibilities and both are equally bad

The art director, nor any director that matter, actually looked at the assets and cross-checked them to see if there is anything stolen

or the more likely one because bungie has done this before:

They knew, didn't care until someone brought it up to them and made it public.

Why is he being live streamed?

meanwhile a few years ago when FF14 was on its zenith.

images (1).jpg - 300x168, 9.36K

The animations look very familiar, I mean there's only so many ways to reload a gun but it looks REALLY familiar.

Is that MarkMan?

now post the yoship fucking a tranny webm, Barry

They don't have a choice, you niggas lack any understanding of the pressures and expectations of big business.

Sony looms over them, demanding results, simple as, they must deliver and pray it succeeds.

he's not even the one who did it

The dude follows on twitter the artist whose art was stolen. He was 100% aware and probably responsible of this. He probably told the art team to copy the artist's work, and they did it literally

scapegoat. there's no other explanation

anon, its quite literally thisa rapid-fire D2 Scoutrifle, same skeleton, firing rate and animations and gunplay.

Bungie is addicted to the smell of their own farts because they made Halo a million years ago, so they think anything they do is a genre defining work of genius that fans will line up for.

I'll know this game officially failed if my friend who's the biggest Bungiedrone who played nothing but Destiny 2 for the last 10 years doesn't even play it. So far he hasn't even casually mentioned Marathon.

I never said it wasn't all over now, lol.

First comes, Pride, then comes the fall, as always, human nature.

it wasn't just him either. it was MULTIPLE people following the artist for years which make it even more insane.

Was he punched in the face over this or just bad luck? Because good lord does it look like he's got black eyes.

He probably told the art team to copy the artist's work, and they did it literally

Being charitable, I could see them following that artist cause thats the style they were going for, and wanted to use that as reference. Doesn't necessarily mean he told them to copy it.

guess which one is being fired tomorrow

file.png - 1697x781, 1.39M

can't have prox chat since people are toxic

lets have unmoderated twitch chat

?????

hasn't even been a year since everyone watched concord crash and burn in real time

it's happening again

Damn sony

what would even be the point, Bungie will be pulled apart like a fucking freshly roasted chicken in a year for failing Sony with this game.

ngl I feel a bit bad for him
you can tell he obviously has nothing to do with bungie's faggotry and pajeets pressing ctrl c and v

fired on a saturday?

Actually, the art (which he stole) was the ONLY thing people liked about the game. The story? Not Marathon (which had it's own established lore before this "Reboot"), the gameplay? Trash.

The art style was the ONLY thing that had people interested, and now that it's known he stole it flat-out-wholesale and didn't even bother trying to HIDE it, the game is dead.

2 Billion for stolen assets. Sony is dumb as fuck.

last I heard, this shit got even worse with a space war between a gay couple and a les couple

No seriously. I never seen someone embody physical grief quite like this before. It's fascinating and disturbing to look at.

Daffy.png - 719x689, 552.48K

buddy, he's the Art Director, no one is at the forefront more of pushing gay shit, than them, they are the absolute vanguard, along with story director and a few other positions.

Requesting "Its over" Tucker meme but with the art guy

where can i watch the stream. I mainly want to read chat

Yeah, and the same writer who got laid off got hired by CDPR for the new Cyberpunk game lol

They were reading chat and picking questions too
lol it was a bit tough to watch

the art style is only interesting in concept, not motion, it looks fucking barely PS1 because its hyper saturated hyper conflicting colors fucking everywhere.

Acid Green, Neon Purple, and Cherry Red dominate every fucking frame, its drenched in garish shit.

its certainly interesting, it however, doesn't look good to play in

tons of shit has way too simplistic geometry for no real reason.

wanted to use that as reference

wouldn't have been more easier to just hire the artist instead of using her work as a "reference" (another word for stealing)? The person in question is unemployed

QEhtFos[1].png - 740x432, 113.22K

They were reading chat and picking questions too

Who in their right mind approved this? Was it not enough to come on stream, own up to the plagiarism, say they're taking the necessary steps for this not to happen again, and then leave?

Dexter what.png - 621x503, 133.81K

Not really
That would be more budget going to someone
It would have been the right thing to do though.
Is it really so bad though to reference existing art to make the same style? I'm not in to art so I don't really know the taboos

i enjoy the aesthetic, doesn't really strike me as something that'll have mass appeal though
kind of feels like they had too much faith in themselves with this game.

Where can I watch this?

i feel bad for the guy, he was obviously fighting some demons having to sit there and do the humiliation ritual, guarantee some svp made him do it thinking it would fix everything

Idk, I would have figured they would have recorded something before hand to play in place of a livestream where they knew they'd get eaten alive by their chat

another extraction shooter

only 3 maps

microtransactions and seasonal content

whole anesthetic lifted from some chick on Twitter

It's like Bungie was trying to fail.

twitch.tv/videos/2460495264

they haven't taken it down yet.

Someone needs to upload with the live chat on Youtube, because you KNOW they're going to pull this.

enemies are Sumotroi Dreams characters

Plagiarism aside this game had little-to-no chance of success in the first place.

unnamed.png - 512x512, 301.3K

Is sony going to kill this game? lmao

they outright copied it with the artist's name plastered in it and a hidden loss thrown in it still, they didn't even bother with that

I'd say it depends on how much influence the art has, whether you can realistically contact the person and whether or not they would be ok with it.
See: Dark Seed and H.R. Gieger.

only 3 maps

microtransactions and seasonal content

That's the beauty of live service games though! You can release something barebones and drip feed in more stuff over time! AND make the customers pay for it!
I thate this

still the same as the average ext. shooter

That's a big problem of extraction shooters, Dark and Darker did something slightly different but other than that it's all just Tarkov

Even worse, it was a tranny's art.

if someone brought to me that everything in the game was Acid green on Cherry Red, and Acid Green on Neon Purple, I'd beat him senseless and send him back to art school

I really don't understand why they started with the block dudes instead of starting with the classic Marathon enemies

But we see a compiler in the trailer

Yeah, but in game? lol.

This is what happens when every job requires years of experience, portfolios, references, etc. You just get liars and cheats

that's a cool kingdom key necklace. I want one

they outright copied it with the artist's name plastered in it and a hidden loss thrown in it still, they didn't even bother with that

I know that... I was just talking about people using existing art as reference/inspiration for new art.
We don't know the real intent of the art director
He could have been an asshole and said to steal it
He could have stated to use them for reference of what they want
We don't know

Sony paid THREE POINT SIX BILLION UNITED STATES DOLLARS for a bunch of hacks who plagiarize from twitter artists

wtf is that thing lmao

Oh no no no...

Imagine having some of the best schizophrenic mind bending lore and you turn it into a fucking extraction shooter.
What a waste.

Imagine all the Land you can bough on India with all that cash, and produce, I dont know, cotton or something.

Wipeout Aesthetics®

poster-1.png - 2608x3636, 790.2K

Referencing is fine if you have a broad range of references. When your reference is basically just one person's style then it's a lot less fine.

6 billion for a game studio

This shit is non sustainable

also, hacks who lost the ability to sell crack (D2) to crackheads

They could've just asked if they can borrow assets from Wipeout and be done with it

the art style is only interesting in concept, not motion

This. So much This

guy's been working at a project for years and now he's seen as a thief and probably full well knows that the game is going to go under and he'll never enjoy his current level of prestige again
man i hate the live service model.

amazing how Gran Turismo 7 and that cafe mode instead of the traditional GT Mode ended up as the lesser of the fuckups for Sony's titles this gen

QRD?

In name only reboot of Bungie's old Mac FPS game that very few people played.

that's an NPC enemy in Marathon.

in the near finished product.

Major Franchises

Snorizon ZZZ Yawn

Man take me back to the PS2.

I would not be surprised if more of them were following that artist but unfollowed when they saw things go south.

oh dear.jpg - 600x513, 21.74K

The art style (in game not concept) is so weird for a AAA game I kinda love it. It feels like AAA devs tried to go indie. I know the style is more born out of incompetence than artistic vision but I do like it.

Concord dead within a week

Marathon in serious shit

FAIRGAME$ memory-holed

Thank God I didn't buy a PS5.

mind bending lore

They don't even have that. Bungie said they wanted to "build the lore with the community" or some shit, basically admitting they have no clue what to do with this property and it's just a quasi-familiar IP they can milk for all its worth.

Imagine how big the Ego of that twitter artist got after this news

Art team gets caught blatantly pasting some random artist's work on assets.
Instead of paying them they rub their nipples and say sorry.

Humiliation ritual. There's genuinely no other way to describe it

Seriously what goes on in the 8-10 year development cycle where games release with THREE fucking maps?

Okay Sir President Shekelstein, we've made 20 maps for our upcoming game. How do we proceed?

"Oy fucking vey! just use 5 of the worst maps for the $80 release and drop the rest through seasonal DLC at $30 per 5 maps."

He probably told the art team to copy the artist's work, and they did it literally

Dear God, if that's the case, a bunch of people are going to get laid off soon but will be forced to sign an NDA so they can't point out which dude from Bungie's leadership told them to copy, steal and trace stuff.

Avoiding this sort of thing is almost the only reason art directors exist. They deal with all the meta elements of creation and ultimately have final say
It's like feeling bad for a judge for convicting an innocent man

>FAIRGAME$ memory-holed

Did they abort it? I wouldn't be surprised if so, but I really wanted to watch another train wreck.

Shit this is free publicity for them and a big name company was stealing their stuff for years. Hope they get paid

So they scrapped the original lore to make some random dogshit.
That's even worse.

brillliant edit

SLICK SCI-FI MACHINE CALLED A GENERIC ENGLISH WORD

Is there a specific writer/director at Bungie who can't come up with anything but this?

I eagerly await hearing what

make it right

means.

They even said in the livestream they are looking to add more complexity to the existing maps lmao
Since the alpha players have been complaining of lack of verticality and whatnot

We don't know, total radio silence. It was probably abandoned and they didn't even care to announce it.

microsoft paid 2b for minecraft

microsoft paid 7b for bethesda and all its various studios and ips

disney paid 4b for lucasfilm and all its ips

sony paid 3.6b for bungie and its gaas "expertise" (all of sony's gaas games ended up getting shitcanned or dying immediately)

WHAT were they THINKING?

This q&a was scheduled a while ago, but some combination of hubris and red tape prevented them from rescheduling or at least modifying it

Can someone post the art or artist bungie copied?

Sony probably told them to go through with it or they would get new leadership to do it.
Joseph's career is almost 100% over once this hits mainstream media before this week ends. 50/50 he gets laid off Monday or nothing happens.

This stream was planned before this art debacle. The hilarious part is that it was scheduled for last week but someone called out sick so they delayed it a week. This was a no win situation though because had it went by last week we could have seen more of the stolen assets.

We don't know, total radio silence.

Grim. I'm assuming it's either going to be dropped unceremoniously in the middle of the week with zero fanfare or else quietly axed and we won't find out about it until a quarterly report.

microsoft paid 2b for minecraft

That one actually paid dividends. Minecraft realms and cosmetics alone print fat stacks of money. Forcing plebs to re-buy it cause of different versions is also pretty lucrative. 2 billion was cheap for an infinite money machine.

Hell Divers is single handily carrying everything and even that had to escape almost dying due to Sony meddling.

FAIRGAME$

It's allegedly been put on-hold due to Concord scare and now Marathon looking like it is going to be born chronically and terminally ill.
The other possibility is that they are going to sacrifice it as a tax write-off if MARATHON reboot fucking fails too.

At least Minecraft is still making money for Microsoft, but all those other purchases fucking lol. Disney only has themselves to blame for Star Wars though, they bought a hot commodity IP and crammed shit nobody wanted for over a decade. It was the easiest money printer and they threw it out of the 4th story window.

It's this kind of stuff. Not the first time they've been caught.

Then you have to hire indians, the return of investment will take place after they become superpower.

Microsoft practically got themselves a Power Rangers/Super Sentai in its prime money maker for cheap.

The art director is the one that probably verbally suggested this persons art as inspiration, Sandeep then downloaded and submitted their entire art porfolio into the pool of assets and was shortly fired after this. Most likely picked up and decimated by the rest of the team since the pool is tainted, the laziest probably being contracted pajeets from India just straight up copy and pasting from the pool of resources into the poorly developed maps and items.
It looks like an issue from the top down because the art director himself had been following that artist since pre-production of the game and couldn't even define what the targeted style is with vague terms thrown out like digital realism when questioned a couple months ago.

dude plus signs and bright colors

This is the same look people have just as they're about to jump off a bridge.

Do they really need to plagiarize generic iPhone minimalism looking sci-fi shit?

When it all truly started going to shit

Can anyone confirm if more plagiarized stuff has been found?
I can almost guaranteed there is a bunch of other art pieces and even assets that Bungie is currently rushing to find and delete or modify to look original before anyone else finds them. Granted, data mining exists so I expect any and all other stolen art to be found before the end of this month.

Didn't watch. Did they even address the shit, or just pretend nothing happened?

Please understand, being a game design artist is HARD

IT AIN'T MINE
IT AIN'T MINE
I AIN'T NO PLAGIARIST SON, NO

is it really hyper saturated? I know it was the in promotional material but in game everything looked washed out and grey almost. Like they took the contrast down from 95 in the trailer to 25 in-game.

literally admitted to it

KEK

Lawyers are standing just off camera with whips and brass knuckles threatening to break every bone in his body if he utters won syllable about it.

Wtf is that.....

it's like if you took borderlands art style and sucked out the little bit that made it fun and unique, it's just some random colored slop

Will they learn and start hiring white men again instead of women and pajeets?

denying it would make them look like even bigger morons.

Yea a bunch of people have been coming out of the woodwork posting examples of ripped off shit from pieces being stolen to use as concept art to all kinds of stuff used as decals.

Let's go [X] this [X] guy!

is this the fabled millennial writing?
Why do they always write like this?
It's not quirky
It's not funny
It's godawful

Non binary character in Destiny voiced by a troon

You know, it's funny to think that there are almost certainly Bungie employees reading this thread and watching everyone shit on their garbage game and idiot coworkers.

Hope all the hard work was worth it boys!

about to be put out of it's misery

statler gun.gif - 640x470, 1.65M

even their own discord, which is typically a bastion for toxic positivity, is ruthlessly bashing them with seemingly no moderation. I think it really is over for marathon at this point, if they don't delay the game by a year then it will flop and sony will dissolve the studio

Could have just made a fucking first person shooter too with coop like halo with a fun campaign, just a nice simple thing, instead of a gigantic extraction shooter in development for a long ass time

If they come to Anon Babble at all regularly they're well used to reading hate directed at them and have probably built up an impenetrable barrier of cognitive dissonance against it.

D'OOOHOHOHOHOHOHO

got any screenshots?

its certainly interesting

How the fuck do not people like you exist? That's some of the gayest low iq art shit ever made. Obviously made by people who think they are artistic, but aren't

Kill yourself

An art upcycling project started by Bungie that pays participating artists in an interesting, ground-breaking new way known as "anonymous exposure". People will get to appreciate your art, without even knowing you made it!

probably built up an impenetrable barrier of cognitive dissonance

That's probably a job requirement to work at Bungie.

You just know he is the one who okayed the copy-cat art thinking no one would notice

kekkkkkkkk

They're all going to be gone a month after the game releases.

the haters can go somewhere

Pathetic.

Should have but can't have shit under Sony I guess.

I would've paid attention to this game if it were a co-op shooter, being GAAS it was an instant ignore from me. Corporate jews think they can nickel and dime me forever, they can get fucked and die.

it's nonstop with shit like this

file.png - 1457x960, 667.15K

Unironically this feels like something a Japanese company would do after an employee dishonored them. Total actual humiliation. I wonder what he's doing right now.

Then they didn't break him early, because he addressed it, apologized for it in the first like 10 mins of the stream. Even stumbled over his prewritten statement on it.

the haters can go some where

yeah away from this shit ass game

They probably wouldn't be able to do it even if they wanted because after Concord. Sony has been pushing the rest of his studios to release live service titles in hopes that any of them strike gold so they can begin recovering from Concord's failure.

now you remember the tranny cat of the Trailer

I wonder from where they stole that idea

suffer like g did?

He's fucked then. Fired. Gone. He just opened up lawsuit season on Bungie.

That's a fucking kids toy

they have a chat so we can post art for them to steal

Is this a public Discord by chance?

"Anyone not playing since all the art is stolen?'

KEK, did they limit newcomers to their server?, always got a couple of burners ready, want to see what's up in there.

and sony will dissolve the studio

Let's not get too crazy. They paid beaucoup bucks for Bungie, they're not going to dissolve it. They'll hollow it out and fire people first, to see if that can salvage it.

Some retard at another site said "Billy & Mandy".

This makes me think of a quote about movies I heard
"Instead of making one $400 million dollar movie, why not make 400 $1 million dollar movies"
Just make cheaper and simpler to make games that people will enjoy. That's clearly working for nuDoom financially

Bungie is dead

They gonna defo lock it down after this lmao.

yeah the fucked up but it's not a big deal, maybe it was outsourced

Hmm... that's a bit too reasonable and sane... let's try

NO FUCK YOU HATER FAKE NEWS FAKE NEWS THIS UNRELEASED GAME I HAVENT PLAYED IS PERFECT

That would work if it weren't for the fact that every single one of these costs millions to make and there is no guarantee they will ever strike gold as the closest recent success they got was Helldivers 2, and it seems like Arrowhead is trying to fully decouple for Sony for a proper multi-platform no PSN account full release for Helldivers 3.

They don't really have a choice. Sony bought them for a Live Service they need another one besides Destiny.

Ironically enough Sony buying them is probably what is going to kill them more than Marathon will because even IF Marathon is a success, Sony would want them to duplicate it across their other studios.

The way games are financed now, that's not gonna work. I mean, it would absolutely work if you think the purpose of making video games is to make and sell games to customers. But that's not what it's about now, in the AAA industry. It's all about driving investment into the company through massive, hundred million dollar game projects. You thought it was about making "good games"? HAHAHAHAHA

Where are all the pajeets that were being dismissive and trying to claim its no big deal and covering for them with AI India superpower etc.

scout rifle and titan punch

if I was drunk you could tell me this was gameplay from the newest destiny expansion

CONCORD 2

So it was written.

I'm guessing they were summarily fired from Bungie after this scandal broke because the art leads knew exactly who to fire.

I still think of it as nothing more than a shitty sci-fi DooM clone.

That's becasue it is. Bungie's only claim to fame pre-Halo is that they were MAC ONLY developers and Doom wasn't on Mac (ironically developed on what became THE Mac's OS though).

yeah the AAA space is basically a daisy chain of ponzi schemes where you scare up a ton of capital, snake your big executive bonus or short your stock, then move on while the company collapses,

it was long before then, ever heard of a Dead Cat Bounce?

the real end of Bungie was Curse of Osiris, they proved that, when they weren't being bullied to death, they'd deliver basically nothing and make you thank them for it.

10/10 get AI on it

His tired face doesn't make it any better, it makes him look guilty, which he probably is anyways.

They couldn't figure out how to handle audio for the stream, there's no way they can figure out how to moderate it

Sometimes I feel bad for these people but then I remind myself they would legitimately like to see me violently killed just because I voted trump. Then I don't feel so bad anymore.

anon, when everything is hyper saturated, it looks washed out.

nothing pops when everything does.

Man this reads like a fucking antisemetic comic.

oy vey it's not like they're denying it!

they admitted to it even!

they're overreacting because they're antisemetic!

did they steal a little? yes, but it's not like they stole everything, so cut them some slack!

is it even really theft if it's from goyim? I mean c'mon!

It's not total radio silence, actually. It's even worse - they just announced in the last couple days that the studio founder is leaving, allegedly a couple weeks after the game's first external playtest. it's turbo fucked

I wish every r*dditor a painful execution

Damn, that's fire. I wonder what noname twitter artists they coped those designs from.

Destiny has so few moments of soul and wow that the few get posted over and over.

this is undeniably one of those moments, but they are really fucking rare, I've got 800 hours in Destiny 2, I should know lol.

will be forced to sign an NDA

the second you start these jobs you get an NDA retard. They will however get reminded they exist because this is potentially a tens of millions of dollar law suit

Their "address" is to blame a single guy who already left. A total scapegoating lie as it was still approved by bungie who knew about the original artist's work

official statements made

pajeets disappear

spam derailing in the threads greatly reduced

dc.gif - 180x120, 193.64K

That's a shame, I hope more indie devs make good games and change their perspectives a bit.
You would think that it would have become efficiently "To earn profit, make good game" but I guess it's too fucked up right now

they just announced in the last couple days that the studio founder is leaving, allegedly a couple weeks after the game's first external playtest.

Start digging the grave.

For me, it's realizing these types of people in these positions would not hesitate to throw me under the bus to keep their jobs had I worked in the same company.

everyone getting mad at a game that isn't even out yet

Don't you retards realize this isn't a sprint but a Marathon?

smart, gotta know when to go attach your worthless ass to another company and make them fail and reap all the money in the meantime.

Either turbo fucked or they are all up their own asses and the game director was smart enough to fuck off before they realize they are about to release Concord 3 (Concord 2 is MARATHON) (SONY is never living down their Live-service failure being all named Concord sequels)

Fuck off triple h

doesn't matter if he left or not, they are liable for theft lol.

that person can sue them into the dirt, and that's why they are being so "sowwy" here.

anything to elict a sympathy and guilt response from the person they stole from, because they admitted so much they basically are completely throwing themselves at their mercy.

they shouldn't get it, this game and company is fucked, this artist should sue for damages and theft and take home a clean million.

the Triforce of Sony's future is dead

you love to see it

woah...

HALO STUDIOS WON

Don't worry anon if you turned gay or trans your position at their office would be protected because you could hold them as political prisoners under claiming hate or retaliatory actions for being gay.
Directors and leads would sooner leave and find employment elsewhere than to fire gays or tax deductible H1B pajeet employees.

It's Fairgames now, don't deadname it chud

you forgot

still has a $40 buy in

Pic related

I wonder what the budget for Marathon is. Bungie has been working on it for a long ass time

It's not even free, what the fuck?

Not to mention they made a short film.

They're probably already planning to make it F2P after release to desperately recoup losses, but not before fleecing the few retaining believers who'll still buy it full price on release with no refunds in typical kike AAA publisher style.

They are probably deep into crunch and I assume he got a serious dressing down by both Bungie upper management and PlayStation executives once the scandal started gaining traction.

I can guess how they've been saving money though.

Paid game

Paid battle pass

Paid MTX store

Stolen art

No solo queue

No in-game voice chat

No proximity chat

surely this will go well

The ad

Now that I think about it, that one probably has a bunch of stolen assets that Bungie very likely gave to the animation studio.
Great, now Alberto Mielgo is involved in art theft, and he has no fucking idea he did so.

If I were less medicated I'd suggest it was a discord moderator conspiracy to force people to use their servers to coordinate with their team, so they have more people to groom into the tranny pipeline.

Jesus Christ.

I wish people who cant grow a beard would stop trying to have one, both of them. The mexican is obviously much worse, but holy shit how do you now have a mirror, how do you go to livestream in front of thousands of people with that forest moss on your face?

It's easy when you reboot the game continually. The previous work done is mostly trashed, meaning that time was almost entirely wasted.

Business idea for Bungie: make a good game, like Halo: Combat Evolved.

Ultimately he's responsible. I bet all management is pissed as hell, and he is forced to do it.

The current team is incapable of such a feat. I doubt there are any Bungie vets there at all.

White guy's beard would be fine if he trimmed it into a tidy goatee until it started coming in thick enough to let it spread. Trying to cover your whole lower face with thin hair like that just doesn't look good unless it's very dark. The curse of light-haired people trying to grow facial hair. My mustaches were invisible until I was 25 cause my hair grows in platinum blond and darkens gradually.

Make a game that kills a genre, like Halo: Combat Evolved

I'd rather they die actually.

a couple of decals in an alpha

After seeing approximately 1,369 mentions of plagiarism in this thread, I was expecting much worse. The reused destiny assets is much more egregious.

The problem is that they don't just allow it to grow big enough before they trim it. All beards look like shit when you are growing, but over trimming it will just perpetually make it look patchy. If you have a secure job, it is better just to let it look like shit for a while before working on it

They copy pasted pic related and couldn't even fully remove the original artists signature

There's more, it is not being posted here tho, anons can't be bothered to get the material cuz they do be clowning on Bungie for retardation

Bro, literally they copied the ENTIRE asset: You can't minor plagerism this away, it's a WHOLESALE. They didn't even bother removing the name (antireal) or the "easter eggs" (loss comic) they put in.

Yep that's what I did. I thought I couldn't grow facial hair for the longest time because I simply didn't know how to cultivate it correctly. I'd let it grow out, hate the way it looked, and over-trim so the growth never really accumulated, and just had patchy ugly facial hair throughout my 20s. Now I've got a very thick full beard that extends down to my clavicles. I do a light trimming every week or so to keep it going in the direction I want. About 5 years of growth now.

Bungie is so creatively bankrupt they need to steal shit that looks like decade and a half old Rainmeter skins holy fuck they're cooked.

How do you go from this..

If they got rid of that stuff on top and colored in the words better, they would have gotten away

Here's what happened and it isn't as fun as you're all thinking but I sympathize

art team gathers reference material for the game

reference materials are shit like these posters, pictures of buildings, pictures of consumerslop like shoes/iphones/watches/whatever

general legal rule is you have to change 25% of something to avoid getting a plagiarism lawsuit (not hard and fast; like you can't change 25% of the coke logo and be ok)

Bungie going through lots of churn and Marathon reboots

Marathon team constantly changing, and the guys who assembled the reference materials probably got sacked

hire new artists who don't know what's reference materials and what's already made and cleared to use

reference materials get in the game

internet finds out, and Bungie gets shit on

Willful copyright infringement is suicide for a company under Sony because the legal risk is immense. Incompetence combined with Bungie firing too many people is what happened here

t. gamedevfag that works with artists

Bungie can't cover up text

Bungie can't make their own poster that uses 2 colors and basic shapes

Bought for $3.6 billion btw

missaccomp.jpg - 1024x575, 79.51K

neat little segment
could you tell me what twitter artist made this originally? i want to find more of their work

Facial hair is not head hair, so it grows slow and patchy for most people. Too many retards listen to old school thought where they wait two months and if they don't have a full santa beard they trim. It takes years before it starts looking good

So this is the legacy of Marathon...

gone.jpg - 262x301, 12.63K

You know, a BLAME!-style extraction shooter set in a megastructure-like map might actually be interesting.

Reusing assets your company made is way fucking different from just literally stealing someone else's shit.

Copyright infringement isn't as bad as reusing assets that they own.

Headcanon and even if that's how it went down Bungie still comes off as negligent retards at best.

This is like the 4th time they've been caught using stolen assets right?

headcanon

No, I've seen this exact thing happen.

Bungie comes off as negligent

Oh, it's a PR mess right at a time when their already unpopular game didn't need it. I'm not disputing that at all.

the best part is they're going to blame its failure on him while ignoring that the characters look like they were designed by the person who made the starfield strip club outfits and the maps look like roblox

It's still the job of the art director to oversee all this, no? And he's been working on Marathon since the beginning. If you can't vet this shit, then what is your job?

what if the art design and color scheme was corpo slop but realistic

Who the fuck finds this shit appealing!?

file.png - 1200x675, 400.06K

hire new artists who don't know what's reference materials and what's already made and cleared to use

Do they not name files? Store assets in separate directories? In separate database tables? What the fuck is going on at bungie that this seems like a reasonable explanation to anyone? Did the new guys on the team sit down at their desk only to find their desktop looked like pic related, and they were told to just "find stuff they needed" by trial and error?

icons.jpg - 2000x1334, 553.75K

wrong art style

wasnt that fanart?

It takes years before it starts looking good

Guess that's why a full beard was a traditional sign of being an adult man in most ancient societies. You couldn't fake it, it had to come naturally with age.

A different number could've helped too.

Reusing assets your company made

I don't think that's what he's talking about. Bungie has had like 3 instances of people finding out that Bungie is stealing random designs or ripping off random art for Destiny 2 in the last few years
So this Marathon shit is nothing new to them
There's definitely something going on internally

I was gonna say, how do you not see the art style and not jump ship, but I guess it's his fault?

Imagine being the art director for your company's make-or-break project and everyone who saw the initial reveal immediately said its def. DOA because its fucking ugly.
And then you get a major plagiarism drama blowing up in your face.
I'd look like this too.

Likely, but that indicates piss-poor provenance handling (which should be extra anal due to the turnover).
Of particular interest is how many sudokus will Sony demand to restore the rost honor.
Pretty sure the whole game is already a write-off for them, but they’ll release it nonetheless.

The art director is ultimately responsible, but it's not realistic to expect someone in that role to memorize the exact appearance of every piece of reference material unless that material is obviously something famous, like the Mona Lisa or a box of Frosted Flakes, or whatever.

It's easy for things to get jumbled and confused, especially when people get let go. Expecting every art asset to be in some kind of master SQL database table somewhere doesn't happen for a game like this, though. Maybe GTA, where people would be desperate to sue for infringement.

the red war campaign

the entirety of curse of osiris

the ace of spades nerf gun

art in a cutscene explaining the main antagonist's backstory

I guess this is the fifth time, I can't remember any others but I usually forget about this shit pretty quickly.

Holy hell and this wasn't a red flag for Sony?

this is "lose tons of money in court" lazy and shitty.

IMO, if Marathon well and truly flops, and the next Destiny expac underperforms, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony fires most of Bungie, makes whatever devs are left move to Cali (to Sony HQ), and closes their office in Seattle.

grinding strikes over and over and over for a reason i can't even remember

doing the weekly nightfall with my bros and finding ways to cheese things (like sitting perched up high on one map with the sniper that regens ammo to make the boss encounter easier)

getting upgrade materials as my drop from my first vault of glass raid whilst my friend got the mythoclast

he took it into pvp and people said he was cheating because it would just molest everything

the first iteration of the game was better than anything that came after it, and even then it wasn't amazing. just pretty fun

art team gathers reference material for the game

art team says oh shit AAA games require a lot of assets

art team farms asset creation out to some firm

firm says oh shit AAA games require a lot of assets

firm farms out asset creation to some compan...

...

...

...

...inese freelancers farm asset creation out to an art commune in iraqistandia

iraqistandian communards use the reference material to create assets that look like the reference material

The art director is ultimately responsible, but it's not realistic to expect someone in that role to memorize the exact appearance of every piece of reference material unless that material is obviously something famous, like the Mona Lisa or a box of Frosted Flakes, or whatever.

They plenty of tools that you can use to check for plagiarism, even in art.

So they'll lose their shit if some small time artists/nobodies uses AI art tp "steal from artists" but leap to the defence of the billion dollar company when they do it.

That's embarrassing.

I'll be honest I don't care about the stolen artwork. I just really want this game to fail because I hate live service sloppa

Okay, that is a very clear pattern of willfully stealing shit over several years, simply because they think they can get away with it. They don't regret it, they don't have any kind of review processes in place to ensure it doesn't happen, and probably actively encourage it given that it keeps happening.

it's not realistic to expect someone in that role to memorize the exact appearance of every piece of reference material unless that material is obviously something famous, like the Mona Lisa or a box of Frosted Flakes, or whatever.

The art director literally follows the artist that was plagiarized on Twitter. The artist that got stolen from isn't major, but the director absolutely was aware of their existence.

Unironically getting exactly what he deserves.

s-stop talking about it we already addressed it at the beginning

If you got recorded donkey punching a crippled grandma in the street, I don't care how you "address" it, I'm still gonna be calling you a piece of shit, dude.

Oh fuck I totally forgot about the Xivu Arath stuff lol
I was wrong, this is the sixth time

I should really play Ripper one day.

same

of course it would, and that's why they'll never do it, it'd be hard and require real talent.

No, that's exactly what it is. Just realistic.

dude soft edges and bland pastel colors

safe diverse sloppa

It's corporate slop taken to the extreme. Not a surprise coming from Modern Bungie.

The outsourcing angle is possible, but there would still be a failure in Bungie to not clearly say 'these are reference files, do not put them in the game.'

Yes, but batch-running all of the game's textures through is time intensive and it's unlikely this semi-obscure twitter artist's stuff would show up anyway.

but the art director followed the artist on twitter

Yes, and that's almost certainly why that artist's works ended up as reference materials for the game. This is common in dev.

What's all that blue raspberry shit smeared all over the screen? This game just looks like a vomit of rainbow robot jizz.

and it's unlikely this semi-obscure twitter artist's stuff would show up anyway.

People were running the textures through reverse image searches yesterday and getting links back to the dude that originally posted this stuff years ago.

Bungie employee has entered the thread.

It's hardly the same thing - that being said; Bungie have been on a downward spiral for years, pandering their heart out to all these faggots who don't play their games, so I for one welcome to constant shitposting.

Reverse image searches aren't the same as a commercial batch process to check for hits against a copyright database.

T rated game. No red blood. :^)

Yes and no. Craig Mullins made fan art for Marathon 1 but was tasked with making official art for Marathon 2 and Infinity. So it's retroactively official.

sorry but this isn't even fucking trying that better be a placeholder model

Will this or Fairgames be the final nail in the live service game coffin for Sony? At this point they just have to accept that they won't be able to replicate Fortnites succes right?

I doubt it

Not really

no, anon, it isn't its the finished product.

I know it won't happen but I wish it was the final nail in Sony's coffin period.

You really should. Privateer 2, too.

blog.playstation.com/2025/05/07/welcome-teamlfg-to-the-playstation-studios-family/
They haven't learned a fucking thing, they just opened a new live service studio.

Our first game is a team-based action game that draws inspiration from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games. Players will inhabit a lighthearted, comedic world set in brand-new, mythic, science-fantasy universe. We can’t wait to reveal more.

With the amount of times this has happened at Bungie (this being their fourth, or maybe fifth time?), I really don't think there's much of an excuse for this shit. We're beyond "one fuck up." See . What other company is experiencing this level of asset theft? I can't name another in the industry. Heads should have rolled years ago.

Make sure it's clear, the issue is not with a reference or taking inspiration from anything. You cannot copyright or own a design language. The issue is literally copy and pasting someone's original art into a product without paying them for it and trying to pass it off as your own.

Do not get it confused, there is nothing wrong with following a design language.

I don’t really see a win scenario for Marathon at this point.
It has no USP, alpha generated negative publicity and its only defining thing is now tainted.
What we see now is bad luck for sure, but Bungie seemingly has walked under every ladder possible to make it happen.
I think the fate of Seattle office hinges on what would look most favorable to investors at this point, nit the actual performance of the game (hell, it may even earn its keep and it won’t be enough).

Nah, this stuff is more angular and higher contrast. The corpo flat style is full of round shapes and soft pastels.

hate nu-bungie

hate live servce shit

company gets exposed

game most likely to fail

Winning no matter what

Never really been good at space sim games but it did look pretty crazy in a good way.

The main point was, if you commit a crime you can't expect people to not fling shit at you if you do something accessible to the public, especially not like under 48hrs after the discovery of the crime.

Thank God real artists are being paid to steal from other real artists. This is the kind of quality only humans can provide.

So what you're saying is they intentionally steal from artists who wouldn't be flagged in their database. Noted.

Nah.
You track where you got the assets from (provenance) and throw the subcontractor under the bus with no fucks given.

Anon Babble starts defending artists suddenly, when every day you've got AI schizos hoping all artists die

I believe in you, buddy.

Remember anon, Bungie had over a thousand people at one point. (Fucking crazy in of itself.) If they were just a studio of 50 people with that many fucky wucky uwu we pwagarized mistakes, sure, it's deliberate. But with that many people, incompetence is the likely excuse.

I don't see a win scenario for Marathon at this point

Neither do I, desu. It being $40 when its main competitors are F2P means the game needs some amazing novel gameplay/hook/thing to get people through the door, and floaty shooting and a divisive art style ain't it, chief.

No, not at all. I'm saying there's a difference between someone doing a reverse image search and using a commercial service to check your content against things that have registered copyrights.

Um we actually hate the aesthetic here and have to be very hyperbolic about that distaste

It was actually just some silly intern, who actually actually hasn't been working with us in a long time and basically we're actually totally innocent. Also this is the 4th time we have been caught swiping other people's work. Actually.

Sony will brush off this failure and try again. Bungie might not survive this. I don't think they'll be immediately axed in response to this, but it might effectively kill the studio's brand and cause a mass exodus that eventually leads to them having to close.

It sucks as a space game, but the cinematics are the better version of Wing Commander: The Movie.

I'm really only here because I hate Bungie.

Or more accurately - I hate the re-animated corpse trapsing around in a Bungie Flesh Suit being forced to say, "I am Bungie" by it's Necromantic Overlords. While it ruins everything it previously made it popular. And more accurately, I hate how pathetically politcal they've gotten, saying *SAFE POLITICAL MODERN LEANING* every single fucking chance they get, pretending they care.

file.png - 872x1002, 503.56K

Halo is dead
Destiny is dead
Marathon is dead
Bungie is dead

No, not at all.

That's okay, you don't have to. It's obvious to everyone not being paid by Bungie.

Oh, I'm not saying it's not incompetence. I am shocked they have not totally reformed their systems, and fired people for this shit. I cannot think of another company with this many plagiarism scandals in such a short period of time. There are people at Bungie right now who should not be working the jobs they're working.

you'll have more fun playing Vampire Survivors, for cheaper, than you ever will playing Marathon.

Vampire Survivors also will likely bring in 10x the profit Marathon ever will.

he is innocent because he blamed it on some anonymous guy who doesn't even work at the studio anymore

that scapegoat is 100% real

I wouldn't call this bad luck. Not even hubris-inflicted badluck. It's just Bungie's rotten business practices bearing rotten fruit. Bad in, bad out.

It's hard to explain to someone who's never worked in gamedev/tech, but the kind of incompetence you're seeing happens everywhere, regardless of companies. You only know about the one with Bungie here because it made it into the news cycle. And this was happening before the jeet invasion, so imagine how bad things are getting now

A miserable little pile of miles.

They just announced they would use MAU instead of sales as primary metric
You will never escape the slopscape

Remember the rule, everything said on Reddit that gets upvoted is wrong, always.

Imagine being the Bungie community manager who got told his new job is to damage control on forums over obvious art theft. Like, dude, you didn't see a cent of that $3.6 billion, let's be real. You don't owe them your soul.

Five times in five years is not normal. I know what you're trying to say, but this is not a regular occurrence. You do not have stolen assets like these directly making their way into games this often. It is strictly a Bungie thing.

start a quote

don't end the quote

I know where it ends given the comma, but holy fuck this irritates met to no end.

file.png - 427x475, 368.44K

Community managers aren't in it for the money, it's a power trip. Like being a janny.

are they upvoting this?

He follows a lot of people

He follows 700 people. That's not a lot. I follow 1800 people on Twitter.

I legit thought this was destiny for a minute.

40 is clearly aping Tarkov, butt not gonna happen.
You know the funny thing? Nobody who commissions a divisive art style has the balls to support it with an equally out there gameplay.
Funny that.

And that's why I leave the biggest, stinkiest shitposts in their communities.

If it happens again from this point forward (after they've done all their layoffs and Sony corporate is watching their asses), I'll agree with you. Don't forget how completely dysfunctional Bungie was under Activision and before Sony bought them.

NOT LIEK THIS BUNGOOOOO HAHAHAHAHAAAA!

file.png - 240x330, 40.12K

I follow 1800 people on Twitter.

bait

Seems more like a humiliation ritual to me in this case. There can be no power when everyone with eyes can see the truth. Nobody accidentally rips an entire art portfolio 1:1. It doesn't happen to anybody but Bungie.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA

Dude it's happened FIVE times already. Why is six times a deal breaker but five isn't? You are bending over backward to make excuses for what is very obviously a theft-oriented business.

I don't get it.

It's worth it, because their expertise is going to help Firewalk turn Concord into the next Star Wars.

Dude we NEED to destroy AI all it does is steal fucking art! FUCK AI REEEE

Oh wait this heckin company whos games I like stole someones art? WELL THEY APOLOGIZED CHUD STOP TALKING ABOUT IT!

Kill redditors. Roundhouse kick a redditor etc.

No? You follow artists, or people that interest you. That's how you get them on your feed. That's how you use these fucking sites.

This game looks like absolute dog shit. If you told me this was some F2P indie shooter off the PS store I would completely believe it. How a multi-billion dollar studio spent years churning out this dreck is beyond me. And they couldn't even do it on their own. They had to rip off their ideas from some rando on Twitter. Amazing.

Novel gameplay is risky and hard (b/c all the smart devs from the mid-late 90s retired), so you don't have many people to do it and the suits don't have the stomach to try it.

Breaks my fucking heart because I think about stuff like destructible terrain or mindbending shit like Portal and realize it's all 15+ year old technology at this point. It's like we're living in 40k where nobody knows how anything works and it's borderline mysticism to get tech to behave.

Like I said, I think a lot of it happened because of Bungie's size and general dysfunction. Those have been removed (the size, at least), which is why I want to see if it happens again with a smaller team.

I made a twitter account solely to bypass the shitty block that stopped letting me view threads without an account. I follow 2 people.

We know what happened, and whose fault it was: the employee who used someone else's art without permission

So, who is it? What is their name?

If it happens again from this point forward

Why THIS point forward? This is the worst time it's happened yet. You seem downright dishonest now, and I'm feeling like if it did happen again, you'd make excuses for that.

All I know is that the AssCreed woman suddenly left the studio and that their website looks obnoxious.

BLMkeks...

they have to delay the reveal today in case there's shit in it that's stolen

Bedtime.jpg - 628x552, 77.89K

Like I said, I think a lot of it happened because of Bungie's size and general dysfunction.

The first time. Okay. The second? Now you're getting into suspiciously negligent territory. 3+ times is a clear pattern of theft.

Okay. Cool. So you don't actively use the site to look at shit. What I am doing is not abnormal.

Very subtle.

anon, I don't need to go to reddit to check, I simply "know", I know what basedboy lefties will upvoted, I know what they will downvote.

I know what the replies are, I know what the hidden downvoted replies are, I know what the replies to the replies are.

you see, I'm white, with a decent IQ, I have this super power called pattern recognition, and I have a good version of it, and with it you can literally predict the future.

yep that's a plagiarismo

It seems pretty clear the main art director stole the whole art direction of the game from that artist on twitter. That's crazy. No wonder he looked so out of it. Bro's career is fucking over.

they look like they are wearing fetish latex suits complete with parts that are blown up with air.

basedboy lefties

oops a little freudian slip

6 people dead in the same manner? I don't think it's a serial killer. Bring me a 7th and maybe I'll consider it.

Paid shill and not even hiding it.

You underestimate the power of incompetence across different teams. Knowing plagiarism and maintaining it is suicide as a business because just going to court is stupidly expensive, let alone winning or losing.

doesn't know about word filters

newfag b gone

LE GAME.... BOMBED?

Bro who the fuck are you fooling? FIVE TIMES. They had literally four previous instances where they could have corrected their processes but chose not to. Why? Because they already knew it was going on and considered the price of occasionally paying off a pissed off artist worth the cost of ripping off their art.

S--0y has word filtered to Basedboy for like 6 fuckin years.

You didn't say anything to go through the filter, you just spoke your heart

Not really, it looks more like Apex than Tarkov which is the definitive extraction shooter

what happened to alanah pearce bragging about sony's big single player games with no DLC?

Bungie can afford to go to court, artists can't. That's why in previous instances the artist simply accepted an apology or small payment. Bungie figures it's cheaper to ask for forgiveness than permission. They get away with this blatant theft because they can, because nobody can sue them.

this is so retarded

oh no they stole my plain text !!!

Knowing plagiarism and maintaining it is suicide

Yet they've done it five fucking times. I don't care if you have a thousand employees. Do we need to go to half a dozen to make this shit serious? When that happens, are you going to argue seven is the magic number?

It doesn't filter to "basedboy" retard

He's clearly a shill.

It is not how you make a theft-oriented business in gamedev, kek.

Yeah, I’m just thinking about safe edginess of it all. I’m on the other side , the one that’s told to make safe mechanics.
Ya can’t afford experiments because it’s a 1000+ megaproject, yet you request something visually risky because?.. Ah, whatever, time to sign off until 9 at Monday and play something good.

well obviously that's what they did and then some

what happened to alanah pearce

no idea, hope she's dead and full of cum

It's not like they have all of the previous issues and mini-scandals on a fucking leaderboard in the office, anon. Gamedev is shitty enough and you're always crunching on deadlines. Ok, we did an oopsie, the CEO sent an internal email to tell us 'we're fixing it,' and a month later everyone forgets.

Bungie can afford to go to court

You'd think that, but corporate lawyers are fucking retardedly expensive. Why do you think Bungie was trying to get that recent lawsuit about their old D2 campaign stuff dismissed? They don't want to be in court at all. It's also the same reason everyone and their mother is putting the forced arbitration dogshit into their EULAs now.

No, I'm just someone that's worked in tech since the 90s and sees this stuff happen all the time.

I think they gambled on the art style because shipping a brown-n-bloom Tarkov-like into the market would be absolute suicide since you're literally bringing nothing new to the table against an established competitor.

Guarentee this is some DEI hire on the team that they cant get rid of.

It is not how you make a theft-oriented business in gamedev, kek.

These are just the thefts they've been caught in. Who knows how much shit they have been stealing. We already know they reuse Destiny assets and animations and likely a whole lot else, but since it's their own game it's not theft. Maybe they think any art they find on the internet is free to use the same way their own game is?

In any case, they should all be fired.

Is an army of jeets really cheaper than just hiring the artist to work for them?

You'd think that, but corporate lawyers are fucking retardedly expensive.

Bungie was bought for 3 billion and change. They can afford a single lawyer to bury some poor commoner who dared to sue them. Unless the artist gets a pro-bono lawyer looking to score against a corporate bully, it's never going to happen.

Shill-kun, you realize Bungie will only exist for a few more years at this rate, right? Your job will be one of the next to go. You're spending so much energy for a company that's currently loading the gun they're going to shoot you with. Just stop.

I'll tell you what happened. Bungo insider here. Listen up.
Joe gets a bunch of twitter posts from Antitreal's art page. He prints them out, saves them and makes a portfolio for the game that is 99% her stuff.
Then his art team are told "use this as a basis for our art direction but don't make it too obvious" now his art team is making assets with antireals art but they change things up. Of course a bunch of stuff slips through the net because they're on crunch and the workplace sucks ass.
Next thing you know it all comes out. Not only did Joe plagiarize another artists entire art style, but the only reason he got found out is because his overworked team just copy pasted shit in due to endless crunch.

No, I'm just someone that's worked in tech since the 90s and sees this stuff happen all the time.

And they get sued into the ground over it, if you're not LARPing. What is your point?

They got caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Now they have to pay the artist and mea culpa it.

absolute suicide since you're literally bringing nothing new to the table against an established competitor.

god you can really say this about every inch of this game

it isn't just about money with the Jeets, its about employee's that are your absolute fucking slaves and you can exile them to the shadow-realm of India for any reason.

people who work with that over their head are manic in what they will do to keep their position.

If it wasn't a big deal they wouldn't have stolen it and just made it themselves.

I would kill for the ability to have some kind of omniscient fly-on-the-wall perspective for just how little work goes on at mammoth AAA developers
years and years of development and they have a 3 map tarkov ripoff that's built on stolen assets
Blizzard cancelled their survival game and fired most of its developers when it had been in dev for like six years and the only thing they ever released beyond its existence was a piece of generic concept art on the applications page
how do these companies make NOTHING

who cares
he should be happy his "art" was used by someone

Should have been working on games like Astro Bot. Oh well.

Out of curiosity I looked up what employees at Bungie look like and yeah, that seems about right.

Jeet psychology

the further people go back the more of this guys art they've stolen

at this point it looks like they stole his entire portfolio

furthermore, it looks like they've taken his entire art style and made it their game

their game is basically his art style

So what now? What realistically happens? It's clear to anyone that they've basically made this game based on someone elses work. Which is weird as fuck, they could have just paid this guy a couple shekels out of the Sony 3.6 Billion and they could have avoided all of this. The guy would have even been shilling their slop rent free.

isn't that that one Jeet that talked about sexualizing children and how they are involved in "kink" too?

Its the "style" they wanted.... whats the issue

I honestly thought it was an easter egg or a reference to the artist which they used his music in trailer. His older album is called Aleph.

Jeets didn't seem too happy when the British were using their land for the glory of the Empire. What changed their point of view?

its probably way less than even your estimation.

and then there's the make-work positions, just buttloads of them.

all these projects are impressive in how little gets done with so much.

They're just that greedy and stupid. And that's the real reason I think they deserve to be humiliated for this. The sheer stupidity and greed.

Ok, we did an oopsie, the CEO sent an internal email to tell us 'we're fixing it,' and a month later everyone forgets.

I just don't believe this. If it happened once, sure. Maybe once every couple of years, even. But five times? In five years? That is a plagiarism scandal almost every fucking year. That is 100% enough time to fire people, and restructure things, and they didn't, and they need to be ripped apart for it now. This isn't a "let's give them one more chance" moment. They've had it. Multiple chance. They fucked up. They fucked up, and should pay for it.

They remove the stolen assets and remake it. While finding out what else has been stolen/copied wholesale (an audit). It's probably why the guy on the stream is tied beyond the crunch: He has the added stress of having to turn all the art work over with a fine-tooth comb and find artists that don't fucking steal (if he isn't the one) that'll make original replacements for the assets they stole.

Marathon is fucked in so many ways, who knows.

Sony should cancel the entire project, and dissect Bungie, keep D2 going for their addicts, and fold the game and some workers into some other company.

there's no fixing this.

Jeets didn't seem too happy when the British were using their land for the glory of the Empire

Jeets were actually slavishly fawning and obedient toward the British and eager to please them. It was a relatively small group, the Brahmins, who resented British control of India and organized protests against them.

my fucking anime tiddy artists list is clocked in at 700ish

1000 devs doing 0 work but QA is too expensive and not worth it. These companies need to be KyoAni'd.

not shiny enough, they have a fetish for making everything as unappealing as possible

Why not make something new to… oh wa, gaas.
I feel em and I’m not sympathetic.

The actual costs are not in the assets, but integration.
Stealing raw assets is dumb, it’s like buying a new EV and then charging it off of the neighbor.
This is why everyone who took their meds treats it as Bungie being run piss-poor and not like they’re some criminal masterminds.

Guy has to be a paid shill. This is like going

guys I know he's stolen from you five times already, but come on, at least give him a sixth chance...

jeets and contractors are disposable and don't whine about things like 'benefits.' And because they're jeets happy to get out of India, they'll work for way less than native citizens. They're just the migrant workers of the tech world, anon, like the mexicans who Tyson Chicken hires to work in their assembly lines.

Companies fear lawsuits, anon. I don't know how else to explain it. Going anywhere near a courtroom is something that gets sent to the CEO at most places because it's such a big deal.

I don't work at Bungie or Sony, sorry.

If the game was already out for sale there'd be a stronger case for a lawsuit. As it stands, scrubbing the stuff out of the game and giving the artist some kind of 'don't sue us, here's $10k' 'we admit no wrongdoing' payment is what will happen.

Yeah, which is why it's fucking baffling to me that Sony would do this less than a year after getting their teeth kicked in over Concord.

I don't believe it

Try working in a corporate job for a few years. Reality is always stranger than fiction, anon. And the larger a business is, the slower it turns. And then take those problems and multiply them by ten when you do widesweeping layoffs that result in the straight up loss of institutional knowledge. Hell, I think in one of the early plaigarism cases, the Bungie guy who was talking with the artist they robbed got sacked and nobody told the artist on the other end of the phone, lol

our first game is [enormous list of buzzwords]

it's real

Holy shit they are fucked before they even get off the ground. Sony is optimizing the art of fucking up. That's incredible. You can't just put every ingredient in the kitchen in one soup and expect it to taste good.

...What the fuck is a "frog-type game"?

So I can give a little perspective. I work in audio, and one time, I attended an industry panel on audio at Riot Games. They were talking sound design, and, at least in 2022, they had teams (plural) for creating sound effects for League of Legends skins.

Let me emphasize that. They don't have "a" sound designer for League of Legends. They don't have "a" sound designer for League of Legends skins. They have "teams" creating sounds for League skins. Like, three or four people per team. I assume that's probably been gutted at this point, but that was the state of things three years ago.

strange that you assume there's any logic to it

Sony should cancel the entire project

There's a theory that Bungie higher ups purposely sabotaging this game so they can get their golden parachutes which is why aren't delaying it.

anon, he is likely the artist that stole, he knows this artist first hand that got stolen from.

and suddenly there's a game he's the art direct where this artists entire portfolio and style was used to make a game he's in charge of.

do the fucking math.

pick very related when he's searching for "whoever did this".

I just know the ceo of playstation is hovering his finger above the "close bungie" button

Also extremely hilarious, bungies death and halo being released on ps5 is so funny

at this point the ball is in Sony's court if they're gonna clean house or not.

Encouraging stealing art doesn't require one to be a criminal mastermind. It's actually a very stupid and lazy thing to do, because most criminals are stupid and lazy.

they have that infatuation with gamedevs where they go out of their way to keep sucking their proverbial cocks, they can neve ever do no evil it's always someone else like they're the underdog always

How do these companies keep scamming Sony out of their money. First Concord and now Bungie. That's 3.6 billion down the fucking drain.

THEY MADE HALO!

Golden Parachutes for what?

it's generally 1 team now for larger studios or 1 or 2 guys on smaller teams. You're expected to do full sound design including foley and work with the composer within the genre and soundscapes they put together. While initially you'll be spending a lot of time creating the sounds, later on it's much heavier on getting everything properly implemented with timing, volume, stage, etc.

The rumor I heard was that Sony corporate (in California) panicked when MS bought Activision, so the 'preserve their image,' they needed to 'hit back' and went for Bungie. Funnier still, this was allegedly after MS tried to buy Bungie around the same time and decided, after seeing Bungie's behind the scenes whatever, it was too big a risk

just Portlandia fag talk, anon.

copyright "infringement" is not stealing
you absolute clown

Take your meds and stop running interference for Budgie.

incompetent people keep hiring even more incompetent people

jim ryan literally destroyed the entire ps5 generations output of games and hermen hulst does not actually know what gamers want because he has always been a business guy and not a gamer

you should have magic monopoly rights granted by government to shit you post online for free hehe

buncha zog worshippers here

lol
what were they thinking!?!?

We made two good shooters back in the 00s y'know?

Isn't Marathon like, a spaceship crawler game? Like System Shock?

In 1995 it was, but in 2020 Bungie resurrected the corpse to turn it into extractionslop.

they're all making the chudcel face

this is just typical new studio stuff, they don't have anything to deliver so they just say marketing word salad about how they're 'technology first' or whatever.

Didn't realize a new Bad Friends was out

California HQ nepohiring their fellows

This looks like the aborted lovechild of Apex Legends, Destiny 2, and Borderlands.

What realistically happens?

It's likely that the game won't be delayed since Sony probably wants to recoup some of the massive fortune they've spent on GaaS and Bungie's failures. Pretty much the only thing going for Marathon is the art style which has now had all of its discussion permanently tarnished with accusations of total plagiarism and Bungie's past fuck ups. Artist has said that they don't have the energy to go out to America to sue Sony, so Bungie best hope that they don't change their mind. Best case scenario for Marathon is that it's practically DOA but managed to picks up a player base of retarded slave cattle like with Destiny who will eat up anything they shit out, probably going F2P a few months later. Worst case scenario is everybody stops giving a shit about Marathon completely over the next few months resulting in an actual Concord type flop and Bungie getting axed. Maybe they'll just keep it on life support to save face.

OH NO LOOKS LIKE YOU COPY PASTED SOME PICTURES INTO YOUR GAME

People unironically think copyright is a good thing

This is the face of the man who had to plagiarize a rectangle.

anon its JUST destiny 2 with shit paint on it, all the animations are D2 animations.

No they didn't. The people who made Halo and Halo 2 left Bungie over a decade ago. Modern bungie has basically no ties whatsoever to Halo, any Halo.

entreprising Lawyers will literally call this person up and offer to do it free since its such a win and take cost out of the win.

they wouldn't even have to leave Europe.

*steals your entire game and sells it for $10 less*
Heh glad there's no Jewish law preventing me from profiting off of your work.

If corporations are going to harass me over copyright then it's only fair I do the same to them. They don't get to use copyright to ruin my fun and not get fucked over by it too. Reap what you sow.

Sony

Bungie

I'm late to the party here but what the fuck?

literal damage control from a fake and/or shill account

I only made it a couple of minutes and had to turn it off.
Absolutely brutal lmao
kek

- cave man we just melted out of the block of ice with a hair dryer

The problem is really that we give corporations the same rights as human citizens. Me walking into your house and stealing your hot pockets out of your microwave is theft, but if it's a corpo walking into your house and stealing your art suddenly it's not big deal and we need to abolish copyright law.

I'm sure glad we are out here, and he's in there.

Holy shit, Encino Man has entered the thread.

The art director is ultimately responsible, but it's not realistic to expect someone in that role to memorize the exact appearance of every piece of reference material unless that material is obviously something famous, like the Mona Lisa or a box of Frosted Flakes, or whatever.

To add on to this, the textures that actually were plagiarized 2/4 had some sort of feature that could easily be confused for in-house referential assets and the other 2 were basically just generic shapes and words if you didn't straight up know who the artist was offhand.

Aleph Dark Haulage Whatever

Reference to Aleph One

String of icons

One of them is extremely close to a Ghost Icon from Destiny

Two Triangles

Nothing

28 Antireal Daily Series

If you don't know who Antireal is, that's practically lorem ipsum, and the design itself is again a fairly innocuous series of squares and lines.

Like the given explanation is completely reasonable as to how it happened. Still plagiarism, and still needs to be fixed, and ideally compensated, but not some fuckin wild conspiracy of the art director scheming to steal this person's entire career and would've gotten away with it if not for those meddling redditors.

anon, they stole everything, this isn't the only one, just the most known.

we are talking dozens of them.

It's definitely more interesting when you go the wild 'Marathon explicitly went out of its way to steal this no-name artist's vector stuff, and are recoiling after being found out,' but real life just isn't that interesting a lot of the time. I feel bad for the AD since he's getting all this shit because of something someone that got laid off did, but at the same time, when you're the boss, the problem is yours.

focus on how they were used, not on how they were acquired

Nah your tricks don't work on me.

I don't think many people are saying this is a conspiracy. It's clear though that it's mass incompetence. It's happened multiple times at Bungie in the last five years. It doesn't matter if it's just reference imagery that somehow got put in the game. This has happened multiple times. People should be fired, and vetting systems should be restructured, and they should have been restructured years ago.

taking the companies word on what happened here is the most reddit fag-leftoid thing you could ever do.

its more likely HE stole the assets himself.

literally lego weapons

To surprise of no one a tard is defending bungie despite the evidences

just let corporate entities do what they want bro come on like who cares dude it's just a drawing whoooo cares

What realistically happens?

Work stops for 2-3 weeks while everyone is scrubbing the assets list and gets the receipts for each and every one.
Given the size and age of the project it’s gonna be all hands on deck.
Everything without receipts is rebought or listed for reimplementation.
Some heads are gonna roll to appease corporate, that doesn’t help the schedule either.
All in all either the game is delayed by about three months or is released even more undercooked.
Those who leave Bungie now will be looked at a bit sideways and will have to beat the allegations at job interviews.
Bungie itself is more likely to be restructured/gutted, but likely after Marathon release as their pay is already budgeted in and it’s easier to let them fail unimpeded.
Those in power in Sony who were against Bungie for this or that reason will get more sway internally.

So, nothing interesting actually happens, the game will still suck and die deservedly unloved.

you don't go to an artists portfolio and steal dozens of art pieces and put them in your game through pure incompetence.

I think a 3.6 billion dollar studio should not get to steal the work of twitter randoms. They can use some of their fag flag money and spend it on that instead.

art director with probably 10 years in the industry

professional artist himself

gambles with entire professional career and the game he's art director for by intentionally stealing some midgrade vector art

This would be like a partner at a lawfirm doing shoplifting while a camera crew is following him. It's fucking retarded to suggest a guy would risk incinerating his entire career over this, especially for fucking nu-Marathon

They're no doubt already in crunch mode trying to get their unfinished game ready for release in a few months. If they don't delay it, we'll basically get the alpha minus any texture maps at this point.

because of something someone that got laid off did

Mate, the director literally follows antireal on his socials. As do several other members of the design team.

assumptions on assumptions on your part.

he could simple be stealing all the time, assuming his good faith without knowing him is retarded.

he just got caught leading a team that stole dozens of art pieces from a single artist.

then its a mysterious person who recently left's fault, how convenient.

its an online service, ur shit out of luck

remember sony paid billons for bungie

a large video game has a massive amount of assets.. that some are copy pasted as place holders in various stages of development is completely normal
Then they decide their placeholder art style is to be kept for the final game

Amazing how these places have such nonexistent project management.

Like the given explanation is completely reasonable as to how it happened. Still plagiarism, and still needs to be fixed, and ideally compensated, but not some fuckin wild conspiracy of the art director scheming to steal this person's entire career and would've gotten away with it if not for those meddling redditors.

But which narrative generates more views and retweets?

but he follows the artist on twitter!

Yeah, and? How do you think they collected the stuff to be used as reference material? It's not some kind of 'the criminal left his wallet at the scene'-style fuckup. Don't be ridiculous.

Anon, think about how retarded you're being. If you're suggesting this guy has made his entire career through stealing shit, then why would he pick now to do the absolute sloppiest 'steal' job ever where he fucking leaves the original artist's NAME on the assets being stolen?

Project managers aren't putting art assets into the game. They don't even have the shit on their computer to open the files, I bet

never trust any person or company saying shit, trying to avoid lawyers raping them.

they have their own lawyers telling them what to carefully lie about that can't be used to fuck them.

it happened enough times that it borders on malice because it's a billion dollar corpo of course they can get away with it

What the fuck is this shit? LMFAO

sonys gaming division shits itself for an decade

their solvency rests on the funny space nazi game by incompetent swedes

111111111111.gif - 120x128, 377.41K

Project managers aren't putting art assets into the game. They don't even have the shit on their computer to open the files, I bet

Are you for fucking real dude
Stop typing, retard.

The reused destiny assets is much more egregious.

retard nigger faggot ESL leave my internet now

Project managers work in shit like MS Project, Jira, Excel, whatever. They're not using Maya or Photoshop. They don't even have the same kind of PCs as artists do. Try working a job before betraying your retardation

Look, just try to understand.
This art of yours? Nobody really gives a shit.
This whole brouhaha happened because nobody at Bungie gave a shit in practice.
There are no art pieces in gamedev, there are textures, there are models, there are animations, effects, etc, but nobody cares about art in twitter understanding.
What is cared about is art direction — how all these thousands of frankly fungible .pngs align together, how the scenes made out of hundreds of models look together, how is the lighting set for it all to shine together.
And this is an innate core competency of a studio and if it’s outsourced, it’s outsourced with the whole project.

How did it take them six years to slap together some stolen art and reuse Destiny animations?

Can you show some of the 'dozens' of examples? Like the 28 Antireal Daily Series squares/lines thing is all over the place because it's so simple and kinda just fits as a 'make this plain texture fit the aesthetic' - is that what you mean?

JUST

but not some fuckin wild conspiracy of the art director scheming to steal this person's entire career and would've gotten away with it if not for those meddling redditors.

they're only in hot water because the entire game is so creatively bankrupt and the blatant plagiarism basically confirmed the art style stealing accusations that the artist doled out on their twitter for many people, completely soiling the one unique aspect the game had going for it. my opinion is they probably took A LOT of "inspiration" from antireal and are now trying to hide that fact, there's no way these striking similarities crop up naturally like this

no, I ain't doing all that gay fucking work.

you wouldn't care if I did, you'd still offload all the blame to the scapegoat Jeet that "totally did it, not anyone important".

liberals don't even know if your choking you can't say words

Current bread

I mean 99% of people don't even know why George Floyd even died.

they think he crushed his neck till he asphixiated on the ground.

Yup they have no morals or ethics

Okay, so you're mad about something you have no evidence of and are just going off vibes, instead of the actual plagiarism. I'm trying to understand why people like to invent things wholecloth when there's plenty actually wrong to be mad about - it kind of waters down the actual backlash when half the claims people are making are clearly bullshit.

The idea you're suggesting that project managers are so detached from the work they are doing is so absurd that I cannot accept it.

Did anyone actually watch the whole stream?

Like I love dunking on Bungie but that was legit hard to watch.

why act like your "trying to understand" your just being a bad faith faggot.

I can't wait till we get to the point where things are so bad we are killing people like you for being subversive little shits.

I did. Lots of "uhh... we got plans! and stuff!" and talk about random bullshit. These guys are so fucking stupid.

bad faith

Yes, that's me, the person asking for evidence of claims instead of just blindly trusting you

I wonder how many people know that Saint Floyd was already in the cop car, but kept whining about wanting to lie down, so the retarded cop took him out of the car and started doing stupid things on top of him.

This would be cool
IF IT WASN'T FUCKING PVP SHIT
I loved a game called "The Cycle", cool alien planets where you go loot old decrepit areas overrun by aliens, you'd be fighting against aliens, doing puzzles to open doors to areas with tons of loot, you take the shit, call in an evac and get out and do work for these companies that sell you weapons of their own designs, kinda like in Borderlands.

It was ruined completely by forced PvP aspect, and surprise to nobody, they shut down servers, the game was out less than a year.
I want an extraction shooter WITHOUT PVP. I even play Tarkov PvE, I don't want people in my games, only co-op with friends.

literally a religious folk tale constructed from the lowest common denominators of the negro and white race. Incredible
