Great game

/thread

A million times better than the remake.

Idk about a million

Fantastic.
Actually replayed it like two weeks ago and still had a great time with it.

I wish it was its own thing and not a poor retelling of a classic that didn't need updating. At least the classic trilogy is on gog now, but it would have been nice if Capcom made official modern ports on console and pc.

I got filtered by it. Couldn't beat past the police station (literally the beginning). But I like how it looks

its the easiest of the original trilogy.

In a way it will always be superior to the remake , because the B Run with the second character was actually a completely different path from the first character, not just the same basic run with little things changed here & there.

GOAT survival horror, of that era

Still the best

we used go to my cousins' place when we were kids and I'd ask to play this game during the day. They'd say no and we can only play it at night with all the lights turned off and the AC all the way up

Played the original trilogy for the first time and enjoyed it a lot. Well 3 kinda kicked my ass on the first play through. Any recommendations for similar titles? I'm waiting for Dino Crisis to go on sale on gog, and I've already played REmake and 0

Onimusha and DMC1 have some classic RE DNA with a focus on action

Based

I love it. I think that the first and third games are a little better, but this game is fantastic.

Why do you think they’re better?

True

DON'T SHOOT I'M HYOOMAN

I find them both a bit more challenging and thus a bit scarier. They feel more like horror movie to me, and the second game feels more like an action movie in my eyes.

I get that

Good but way overrated. Mechanically, it fixes all of RE1 problems, but it's way easier, linear and barely any puzzles. Not to mention the RPD is nowhere as well designed as the mansion. I like it more than RE1, but I put RE3 above it.

Re3 is the best one

Absolete slop
Play the Chadmake

inb4 seethe

Gameplay designed around shitty qte dodge

:: skull ::

One of the greatest videogames ever made

Wouldn't say a million times but its better, the fact that it does have an actual OST automatically makes it superior for starters

Huh

amazing game

activate the anti-BOW gas in scenario A

turns the lickers into little bitches which is pretty cool

find out in the B scenario they give the harmless little plants poison attacks

there is even a file that recommends not using the anti-BOW gas because it could empower biological weapons

fug :DDD

gimme the QRD on the Resident Evil 2 extra modes please, I have them unlocked but never got around playing them

Skill issue.
The only time you need to dodge is during Nemesis fights and if you can't do them, you should have no business fighting him in the first place.

They were right. In contrast, RE Zero is your game if you want to play something on a hot Summer night, it's like a Southern Gothic Tennessee Williams play,
'Cat On A Hot Tin Train'...

Should have no business fighting him except when you're forced to fight him & reload the save 20x because he eats 12 mine thrower rounds, 6 grenade launchers, 2 magnums & a few more shotgun blasts until he finally goes down the first time

Guess I'll switch to easy mode then

Gives you a trunk full of infinite ammo

Cool

I savestate scummed the required Nemesis fights in re3 and played the rest normally, I couldn't even figure out any consistent way to do the dodge.

shrug.jpg - 750x560, 26.42K

except when you're forced to fight him

You are only forced into a real fight with him 3 times, and those fights are significantly easier than optional fights

Clock tower fight - Depending on what you did on the tram, you either have Carlos helping you, or you got the freeze rounds that fucks him up

Acid room - Just blast him with the acid and I think you can even get the RL before that fight.

Final fight - just get him to walk into the blast zone and he dies

TFW I used to walk and move like I had tank controls

overrated
re1 is the better horror game and re3 is the better action game

It has the best atmosphere out of all the REs.

Probably my favorite game.

Better than 1, 2 remake 3, 5 solo and 6

Worse than CV 5 coop

4 6 7 aren't RE games they're slop

The best PS1 game ever

Based

Re4 isn't a real RE game

But 5 is

1000025973.jpg - 1080x1080, 73.82K

Kek

It's the best game of the series.

the RPD is nowhere as well designed as the mansion

In what sense?

Gimme a Qrd

Heckin wholesome resident evil thread where I get to play public servant????
Go look up the wiki chud

Good but not great. Remake 1 stands supreme

nta but there are three extra modes. Extreme Battle, the 4th Survivor, and the Tofu Survivor.
Extreme Battle mode is basically a gauntlet where you move around the entire map while using a limited supply of ammo and health supplies.
Starting at the lab you must make your escape up to the police station. Once there you have to collect 4 anti-virus bombs scattered around the precinct. Their location is randomized, after that the bombs are planted and the game is won.
There are three levels of difficulty in that mode ranging from easy to hard. In the beginning only two characters are unlocked Leon and Claire. But once you finish Level 1 and Level 2 modes of difficulty. You unlock Ada and Chris Redfield.
The 4th Survivor is another gauntlet in which you play as Umbrella mercenary, Hunk. Just like extreme battle, Hunk is equipped with a limited supply of ammo and healing items. His objective is to escape from Raccoon City with the G-Virus sample. You begin at the sewers slowly making your way to the rooftop to the escape chopper. All the while avoiding enemies along the way.
The Tofu Survivor is pretty much the same as the 4th Survivor. Except this time you play as a block of tofu and is only armed with a knife. A comedic spin on the mode and even more difficult to complete.

I thought it was excellent when it first came out. I probably wouldn't be into it these days.

Kino. Not as kino as RE1 but still very kino.

Why's that? I still think it's an excellent game to this day.

The only problem with RE2 is that it's too easy.

It's a masterpiece otherwise

Play on hard mode?

Good game. Pretty old. Not really worth talking about, it older than half the board.

One of the best games of all time OF ALL TIME! It is the reason why the Resident Evil series is Capcom's most successful franchises and made people become fans of the Resident Evil series just like how Resident Evil 4 made more fans (especially in Latin America).

i get to the station and die to the licker in the hallway. forgot to save before so i turn the game off

worst of the og trilogy, also the most overrated

none of the cool atmosphere from the 1st game

none of the gameplay refinements of 3

I was alive and played this in 1998

ask me anything

What’s your favorite game of all time?

thanks anon, you reminded me I did in fact beat 4th survivor, never played extreme battle though

real pros don't dodge, they get meme on Nemmy by making him get stuck on the levels' geometry, look up RE3 all kills runs if you want to learn which spots they use

Glad to help.

Second best Survival horror game on the PS1 (Silent Hill 1 is the best)

*meme on Nemmy
also RE3 has quirks when it comes to cheesing shit
mixing shotgun or pistol ammo 7 times lets you make enhanced ammo, the pistol one in particular is the go to for Nemmy since every shot staggers him
no, don't go for the BBA powder mix, just turn single A powder into handgun bullets seven times and you should be able to get enhanced pistol ammo well before you even get to the clock tower
another thing Nemesis is very weak to is freeze rounds for the grenade launcher but I think those take way too many resources to get crafted
on the other hand using the shotgun or magnum against Nemesis is just asking to get punched

It’s better than SH1

The thing about the Remake I really didn't like is how tonally off the dialogue was sometimes. In the OG, they generally treat the situation seriously.
ReMake meanwhile has

"Oh, y'know, surviving."

Jfc that line

It's not actually! Sorry your brain is broken and so wrong.

Which game got remade? Oh that’s right shut your fucking mouth.

I got to the end of RE3 with a full arsenal, only for the final boss to be a gimmick boss that you don't even have to shoot

The game gives you the rocket launcher and there's literally nothing to use it on

there's literally nothing to use it on

Nikolai.

Perfection doesn't need to be remade.

Cope more faggot

Silent Hill 1 also got remade, lil' tard, see Shartered Memories

Lmao fair enough

I didn't even mean to write "Shartered" lol

the sad thing is that these gog fixups are technically the official capcom pc releases and capcom refused to acknowledge them.

Easy but incredibly fun, amazing music, beautiful environments for the PS1, tight and well-paced level design, tons of replayability, overall SOVL

Love fixed camera tank control games. This one is a lot of fun and I love how things you do in A story affect B story. RE2make was such a step down from this.

Based

Me too. Bought it with my brother after school with our christmas money.

Agreed. I still love the remake, but they completely botched the B-Scenario. It feels completely tacked on, whereas in the original, they did so many cool things to actually make it feel like you were just one step behind the A-Scenario character the whole time, using things like Birkin's level of transformation, which item they took from the armory, the Marshalling Yard elevator, etc. In the remake, they put basically no effort into that. Annette somehow dies in both scenarios in different ways, and the boss fights are the exact same in both. It's like they didn't want to do B-Scenarios at all, and were forced to by higher ups at the last minute, so they put next to no effort into it.

Netflix remakes are trash

literally not one redeeming factor outside of cooming to Ada.

OG Ada btfo Remake Ada

Did they really need to change her backstory to? What was wrong with John?
Guess we can't have a heterosexual relationship n current year either, no Ada has to be an FBI agent.

Everyone in this thread is a bunch of boomers.

John was nothing more than a callback to RE1, and Ada was using John the whole time just to get access to Umbrella. When she finds out John's dead, she's just like "Ok...so anyway, about G-Virus...". Her "relationship" with John was about as real as her being an FBI agent.

Anti soul the game. Everyone after 1 is down hill.
2 is when the series went to shit

Not being able to process media that came out before you were born is a distinctly zoomer trait.

on god lil bro no cap fr fr
this unc be yappin bout it
ion even know why you actin like a sussy baka

Enjoy your Boomer shooter

I am, thank you.

Im actually here because I'm going through my boomer arc rn

Top 20 vidya ever made.
The remake isn't even in the top 100.

You hit 30?
Happens, You'll adjust.

Nah in spirit, not like u

Very nice!

At least I'll be dead when the resource wars begin.

I really do wish it had been an unlockable in the remake, which I enjoyed as well.

Remake Claire is so ugly god damn, at least I can understand why Leon did not want to fuck that. Chris' bloodline is over.

Mod it, and add in the fixed camera angles mod too

ugh that would’ve been awesome

Chris' bloodline is over

In the remake timeline, there's a non-zero chance she'll never actually travel to europe (as they'll never remake cv, it can't move sales) and stay put in a safe area, pumping babies out

I thought there was a leak that CV was getting a remake.

It was my plan to play SH1, SH2, and RE2 for the first time this Halloween, but it didn’t work out that way. Maybe this coming Halloween I’ll get to it instead.

Bro, what? I’ll fucking kill you.

projects get in preproduction all the time
remakes are not passion projects, they're just there to make you buy a new game masquerading as an old one
can't see them making much money with CV of all things
Honestly I would see remakes of the Chronicles games on the switch before CV

It turned RE into action setpiece garbage
Thats System shock 2 or Shadow tower

Shadow Tower

GOAT anything

I mean, I liked the game too but come on now.

IMG_3957.png - 152x254, 27.17K

I read it the opposite, they started doing a B-scenario and then hit a deadline and just shoved it out.
I agree though, the B-scenario is perfunctory in the Remake and it's a major issue with it. Though I liked the Remake for being pretty different, and I feel like it stands on its own, having a place for both the OG and the Remake.
While the Nemesis remake is just a disappointment.

Replay it, learn how the gear drops works. Find the hidden enemies

Code Veronica resolves the subplot of Claire going to RC to look for Chris in RE2, and it not only is the one that brings Wesker back from the dead, it establishes his crazy virus powers. It's not something that can just be skipped over.

FPBP

Only thing I'll add is I wish the remake was more like the original than how it turned out.

I played the whole shit from start to finish with a guide because I didn’t want to miss any content. It was a great experience, but far too flawed to justify that much praise.

the wesker thing can be established in RE5R without any loss really
you need to remember that REmake is a new continuity, so you can totally skip things or invent new ones, and that's what I think they'll do for the story in CV: either scrap it completely or resume it in a cutscene somewhere
not like I'll be mad if they go on with it, it'll just be another barely successful game just like the original, and this time not because of the dreamcast but because nobody really cares much about it

nobody really cares much about it

That's not true. It's got a lot of fans, and it's the real RE3. Skipping it would be the dumbest thing they could possibly do. Skipping to 4 was one thing, because it has essentially no narrative connection to anything.

I also forgot to mention that Code Veronica was the first one to really get into the history of Umbrella too. It makes no logical sense to skip it, and if anything it needs a remake a whole hell of a lot more than 5 does.

Nobody gives a single shit about any of that and even people who have never touched a RE game know Wesker as that superpowered guy in sunglasses through the movies and cultural osmosis.

it needs a remake a whole hell of a lot more than 5 does

no game ever needs a remake, they just need to be available. the "remake" term is purely a marketing stunt, and the marketers tried to trick you by pushing this narrative.

remakes are not passion projects

what I meant, in proper terms, they're basically cash grabs
yeah, RE5 is even newer than RE4, but 14+ millions sales versus CV 2.5 million
not hard to see which one will get it first
(think about the controversy it can generate too, free publicity)

extreme battle was never in the original release of re2 on ps1 unless i'm misremembering - was it exclusive to the pc/duel shock version or something?
