The timing was too easy as well, so i pumped all damage, but weapons scale off different stats that i dont even want like defense, so i was forced to pump defense. just kind of a stupid systemw here you have no freedom of choice on assigning stats and forced to use the weapons stats.

If you had to grind out fights and parry constantly, it would be tedious. You don't have to do any of that. You need to start using high-level abilities and weapon combos in Act 3. Lune can AOE kill everything immediately, and Maelle can OTK every boss and enemy in the game. Be sure to kill the sea creature for the double turn picto. You can also just skip most of the side content and go straight to Lumiere.
