Rise of the Ronin

So why did this game never took off the way Nioh did?
I thought it was pretty great. I liked to combat and the fact that it's not just battle arenas 24/7 but you can also run around and do various activities and hang out with your samurai bros, kinda like Yakuza.

ROTR.jpg - 616x353, 58.46K

one dimensional and not designed to be played for a long period of time.

I find the staggering amount of 1v2 boss fights in this game to be a massive stain on an otherwise fantastic game (this is assuming you do missions solo without AI companions). Then two masked men in the hospital garden, Naosuke & Blue Demon, Alcock & Blade Twin, the battle at the end of chapter 2 at the gate checkpoint, there are so many 1v2s in what’s meant to be a 1v1 focused combat system it makes some fights just feel so bad.

Lack of marketing and a strong hook. It just looks like a worse version of Ghost of Tsushima to normalfags and a worse version of Nioh to Nioh fans.

This game is designed with AI companions in mind judging by the amount of effort put into the system (not only can you switch to controlling your companions and even combo that with your character's attacks, many of them also have completely unique weapons and fighting styles you cannot yourself learn). The devs definitely wanted you to use them especially in situations like this.
You could say "oh, if you use them you didn't beat the game" but I think it's a bad mindset to have. This isn't really a souls game.

It launched on the same day as Dragon's Dogma 2 and launched too soon after Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth which people were still playing because that game is like 120 hours long.

locked to ps5 for the first year of its life (being locked to epic basically killed stranger of paradise)

looks too janky for normalfags despite burying sushima in the dirt gameplaywise

looks too basic for niohfags

open world

It launched on the same day as Dragon's Dogma 2

I think this might unironically be the biggest reason. DD2 took all the media attention for a few weeks after release, both due to the game itself and due to all the MTX drama.
Ronin was just not on many people's radar and even after the PC version dropped, you kinda need to be aware of the game in the first place to care about the PC version.

My genuine response to this is, I’ve by default played almost every single action game solo and without human or AI companions because that’s the experience I want and how I want the game to be balanced around. It feels bad when I can just ignore movesets and get free hits in because the boss AI isn’t aggro’d towards me. I’m not going to talk down on people who think this is okay, it’s just strictly not FOR me. I want all enemy aggro on me, and with how the lock-on, deflection, and stance RPS system works, it seems more suited to 1v1.

The only action games I’ve completed with AI companions are Code Vein (couldn’t disable companions on base NG on launch) and Scarlet Nexus.

never took off the way Nioh did

Nioh was basically just another mediocre Souls clone coupled with garbage looter mechanics. RotR was a regression even from that shitty formula. Team Ninja is truly nothing without Cokehead-meal Cookie.

This is bait.

It is but you still responded

Don't forget

no drama or controversy to attract rage-addicted brainrotten retards

no half naked women for all the porn-sick gooners and AGP troons

looks too basic for niohfags

kind of a big one, a lot of discourse at release was about how it was too dumbed down compared to nioh.

Fair enough. I can respect your decisions. I just think that out of all of Team Ninja's games, this one was designed around having companions the most so playing alone is probably not the best experience.

Yeah it was just a very unremarkable launch. It almost felt like there was no marketing.

TN kinda brought it on themselves by making a bunch of nioh likes. It was natural they'd be compared. Though I'd argue stranger of paradise is just as good in it's own way and I think that will get cult status over time too.

didn't they proclaim it was their fastest selling game ever? yet somehow it was more forgettable than strangers and wo long lol

The sad part is, Wo Long unironically has the best combat they’ve created in their modern catalogue and some of the most technical gameplay and interesting build variety, as well as an insanely good collection of bosses (Lu Bu, Zhang Liao, Guan Yu, Zhu Xu, Taishi Ci, etc), yet it’s the least talked about and the one that will be forgotten to time the fastest.

Tecmo needs to make a Nioh like with DoA waifus as bosses

I just don't believe the game was actually designed around them, the AI in this game is really bad in general and they're completely helpless if you bring even one companion let alone 2, the game goes from a dumb challenge to a cake roll it just feels lame no matter what you do

The combat actually has a lot more depth than what most people give it credit for.
There are many different combat styles with unique moves, many of which have additional properties and not just "do damage". Some knock enemies down or up, some act as blocking frames, some make you evade in different directions, some make you jump, some are AoE.
You can mix and match different styles.
You can use violent gale to string abilities of different styles together in a seamless combo.
You can use grappling hook to pull enemies or pull yourself to enemies or to get to high ground.
You can use various environmental objects, although I wish there was more variety in that.
You can supplement your melee fighting with shurikens or revolver. They even have some skills/tech associated with them.
A lot of people call the combat parry slop but parrying is actually not that essential. Sure it helps alot, but chaining together your martial art abilities can deplete enemies' ki just as quickly as perfect parrying all of their combos.

Wo long is the only one I haven't tried, partly because any discussion i see about it is shitting on it and partly because I just dont like china as a setting. Though after trying Jack's game because it got shilled hard and genuinely getting blown away by how good it is, I might reconsider and try wo long

Let’s not forget that bringing companions allows you to revive at the cost of a heal, and that genuinely makes the game an absolute joke, even on Midnight.

It's kind of just bad overall. Nioh was at least was fun to play whether it was questing through levels or trying to freestyle on the boss with the most elaborate combo you could come up with. Ronin has nothing of it. You can enjoy riding through the japland and picking fights but that gets old quick. The combat is ass, the bosses are the same garbage.

All of these options mean nothing when every enemy can pull out hyper armour attacks out of nowhere, this with the stingy ki system means parrying into panic then repeating is always the best option no matter what

Intense Wo Long hate was just a product of its PC performance on launch. It’s mostly undeserved. As it is as a game, there’s very little negative you can actually say about it. It’s great. I’ve only gotten to NG+4 endgame on Nioh 2 & Wo Long, and Wo Long was just as good as Nioh 2 the whole way through because the deflection system is that satisfying.

I'll throw it on the wishlist. My only real gripe with new TN games is the shit optimization since I like to play em on deck. Nioh 2 and sop rifts do just fine on 60 though

Everything I heard of the game killed any desire to play it, and I loved and played the shit out of nioh 2. Also wo long was a complete disappointment at launch so they were climbing out of that with ronin's launch. As an example

handgliders

So fucking stupid

companions

Gay and dumb unless it was for specific missions like nioh 2, balances game around having ai with you, which is just generally unfun in these kinds of games

you're incentivized to play as the other characters while your character is played for you by the computer

Really shit, completely kills immersion in a game in this genre, where the pc is playing for you because they thought for some insane reason of course you wanna play their shitty ai companion they made over your personally made character

game forces you to play as companions when you get beaten

Can't even fluidly challenge the boss on defeat like nioh 2 you have to switch to the shitty companion beforehand, just constant negatives with the system.

game forces 2 main characters at start you have to choose from

Further kills immersion and connection to own character, really dumb in contrast to wo long and nioh 2 which just let you make your character and do your thing, nioh 2 even shows your origin with your mom and the sword as a baby.

it apparently has a cuck plot where your best friend/childhood friend/possible sibling cucks you for the main bad guy

Other than cucks, noone likes this shit in their stories or games.

less weapon options than nioh 2, wo long was the same

again, underperforming and disappointing.

It's like the dev company doesn't even know their own audience or they've become so inept they can't make a good game to save their lives.

The ki only felt stingy if your deflections weren’t on point, since you recover ki if you DO deflect.

wo long was a marked step down compared to nioh 2, which was a big reason for its hate, in addition to the pc shit. It's also paced a lot worse than nioh 2. They reuse the same enemies to a ridiculous degree, which I really began to notice by hulao gate, its the same motherfuckers over and over again, there is barely any weapon variety, among a litany of other shit. Wo long deserved the criticism it got, it's not a very good game.

So why did this game never took off the way Nioh did?

I thought it was pretty great. I liked to combat and the fact that it's not just battle arenas 24/7 but you can also run around and do various activities and hang out with your samurai bros, kinda like Yakuza.

didn't play the game: the post

058609486098.png - 640x656, 349.46K

Still haven't played but I probably should. The new TN games hit so close to me that both Jack's game and nioh 2 are in my top 5 of this decade

Didn’t care about the enemy variety at all. I could perfectly deflect the same tiger or crab soldier the 100th time and it’d still give me intense neuron activations. With all 3 DLC’s, weapon variety is plenty.

Didn’t care about the enemy variety at all

With all 3 DLC’s, weapon variety is plenty.

You a fucking paid marketer or something?

All of TN’s modern lineup requires their 3 DLC addons to be considered a complete experience. They even unlock difficulty levels.

Saying you don’t need the DLC’s would be dishonest and would prove you’ve never even touched these games.

I didn't like Jack game for now (i beat up the pirate dude), also all the armors are ugly except the one you get in the last DLC.

They should pay you less, you don't deserve even what you're getting now.

Funnily enough I hated the start of it. The cinematics didn't hook me, levels are ugly, enemy designs are stuck in realm of final fantasy and imo those suck. The thing that kept me going was the combat system being so aggressive and high octane. Eventually something just clicked and it grew on me. Main story is pretty easy even on hard but allows for a ton of job experimentation. Then you very quickly get into theory crafting and cross job combos. Try incorporating chain cancelling and very quickly you just get hooked

A number of reasons about as silly as each other. It released on the same day as Dragon's Dogma 2 which had a far more expensive marketing campaign both on and off the books (buying influencers who might have shilled for Ronin, and you cannot tell me the obsession over how it looked was entirely grassroots even with how actively retarded and hypocritical people are about such things), however it was also PS5 exclusive which slowed it down.
Sony in their infinite wisdom decided to primarily market the game around its story and historical themes without even showing much of them, while Team Ninja are first and foremost experts at combat design and gameplay with depth and challenge, very little of which was shown off with the game despite it being again outstanding in that regard and since people were iffy on Wo Long which while a great and underappreciated game itself was still mid when compared to TN games as a whole they needed to reassure people.
The word of mouth the game got also wasn't as good because TN games generally demand more taste and investment, once upon a time this was a hallmark of a good game. People on average are just ignorant and dismiss what they don't immediately understand, then make up their own excuses as to why that is and repeat them until it's taken as gospel, let alone bad actors doing it on purpose. This creates the "huge Nioh fans" who think anything slightly different is awful despite the driving force of Nioh being as good as it is is the appreciation of learning distinct mechanics that is found in every one of their games.

To put it simply, people consistently show that they do not deserve Team Ninja games. It's a sad state of affairs but TN themselves need to carefully recognize and make use of that information to stick to what they do best with no capitulation.

I think TN, or whichever publisher oversaw their games, consistently makes questionable launch decisions which hurts their games. You highlighted it dropping same day as dd2 and it being ps5 exclusive. Them having sop be exclusive to epic game store and heavily investing in marketing the game as a meme probably didn't help that particular game's popularity either

Yeah it's never Team Shitja's fault that they make the """misunderstood""" (shitty) games.

I hope theh double down and make even more obtuse inaccessible games.

Ah yes of course the game's quality is directly related to its sales

it's enjoyable, but not quite as engaging as Nioh 2

better than Ghost of Shitshima but not as pretty so it doesn't have as much mass appeal.

Every fight is a humanoid using a variation of the player moveset

Every enemy is hyperarmoured until you parry them so you approach every fight in the same way

Weapons have a huge range of different animations but all of them play by parrying into their strongest weapon art

The bulk of your playtime is either watching dialogue cutscenes or running between Ubisoft map markers to fight humanoids who use a variation of the player moveset which you have to parry and then press your weapon art

Crazy how tn games always look incredibly janky, unpolished and generally ugly. Beneath all that is goty material (for me at least)

It’s just because they’ve been using the same engine since Nioh 1, yet each get required somehow more and more system requirements.

They should go back to the Nioh form because they carved out a good niche of "Souls-like but with more and richer mechanics and action-y combat" instead of trying to reinvent the wheel each time. I skipped Wo-Long because I didn't really like the demo all that much and also didn't care to engage with the Spirit mechanic. Strong point of Nioh/Nioh 2 is that you can make build almost out of everything and ingore/engage with mechanics as you please.

Big sales were exactly what they wanted from RotR hence the open world, "serious" plot and simplified combat.

I probably had more fun with Vanilla Nioh 2 than with DLC ng cycles. After Tengen got nerfed the build variety was in a great place, more so than later.

Yeah the ability to just mess around with builds, move sets was a big point for nioh 2. They really upper the build variety with sop's job system which had crazy synergy across the board

SoP at least can be blamed mainly on Square Enix who have a knack for making the most retarded business decisions and conclusions possible, but whoever is behind TN's decisions has had a somewhat shaky road as well, especially with some patch changes. When it comes to Ronin, that being PS5 exclusive is also moreso due to it being Sony funded, but none of that really changes some of the small decision-making that goes into the games themselves. Trying to make Wo Long seem simpler and easier on the surface level to appease ignorant complaints from people who would then backstab them by saying "it's too boring and also still too hard anyway" by ignoring the depth that is there is a macro example of something they've fallen for far too often, but is actually what they learned to stop caring about for the most part with Ronin.

heavily investing in marketing the game as a meme

They didn't really do that at all though. The closest thing to making the game a meme "they" (SE in this case) did was having the main link to one of the DLC trailers be a rick roll. Fucking stupid in retrospect but all the other bullshit was almost entirely from people freaking out about the initial reveal trailer and immediately making their minds up, then parroting that so hard they refused to see anything else. But even those who write off the story as a meme despite massive evidence still tend to say the game is fantastic, it's only those who never want to engage with it on any grounds that shit on it and those people are beyond saving.
It's not that they need to be obtuse or inaccessible, having better tutorialization and training options would be nice, but they need to hyperfocus on what they do best in terms of unrelenting interesting challenge and combat depth. And tits. Obviously.

Companions

Only available in missions, not part of the open world

You're incentivized to play as other characters

No, not really.

Game forces you to play as companion when you are beaten

This pretty much amounts to it swapping your character, then you controlling the companion to run over and use a healing item to revive yourself, then swapping back to your character

Game forces 2 main characters at the start you have to choose from

Just customize/pick the one you want to use in the tutorial, it never comes up again unless you replay the tutorial

cuck plot

????? No

Less weapons that Nioh 2

Nioh 2 has 11, Ronin has 9
Rise of the ronin also has different combat styles you can use for each weapon, kind of like the 3 stances for Nioh 2, but most weapons in Ronin have 4 styles, and the katana specifically has like 12

>heavily investing in marketing the game as a meme

They didn't really do that at all though

Maybe I'm mistaken but that's just what I recall from initial trailer reception. Everyone started dunking on chaos and journos ran with it.

SoP was way more interesting than Ronin, and probably much much cheaper to make

Marilith3.webm - 960x540, 3.93M

I think Ronin's problem is that it's a AA game trying to be a AAA game. It spreads itself too thin with a lot of different mechanics and systems that are implemented in the most basic way possible (there's gambling but there's only one game you can play, there are branching narratives but 99% of your choices don't matter and just lead to the same shit, etc.). It also lacks a lot of polish that AAA usually have - the animations are kinda janky, the performance is not good, the game looks dated.
Team Ninja probably wants to have their own Elden Ring moment where one of their games suddenly explodes into ultra normalfag popularity but they lack the brand recognition and artistic talent to do that. You don't win normalfags over with gameplay.

Rise of the ronin also has different combat styles you can use for each weapon, kind of like the 3 stances for Nioh 2, but most weapons in Ronin have 4 styles, and the katana specifically has like 12

Not him but none of this matters because you use all of these things in exactly the same way. The combat mechanics heavily enforce one particular playstyle which barely cares about your weapon and barely cares about your stance beyond an artificial and forced advantage system

Nioh 2's weapons actually feel like different playstyles and while Yokai Counter shit was a bad mechanic at least it hadn't taken over the entire game

incredibly fun combat

great boss roster

deceptively deep build system with some 100 jobs (if you consider sub jobs as distinct, I do since they have their own versions of job ability and stats)

smithing is deterministic instead of rerolling random stats like in nioh 2, when trying to craft specific graces (my biggest complaint about late game nioh), plus you can transfer job affinities

basically infinite rift of levels

I am hooked

I like Wolong but there is nothing technical about it at all, it's very spammy by nature with a insanely forgiving parry that makes it way too easy

Parryslop
Nothing more to it, just boring yet another parryslop game

I agree about the hyperarmor, i think it's the worst part about the system, but I like that your martial arts move also give you hyper armor so you can actually sometimes trade with the bosses.
I would have liked it more if bosses didn't get hyper armor in most cases but get some sort of combo breaker ability to get out of stunlocks.

it's very spammy by nature

not really. You can't cancel most moves so spamming is very risky compared to other TN games.

You can ignore the advantage system entirely unless you're bad at the game or incredibly autistic.
There's even a postgame/secret difficulty armor set bonus that turns off the advantage system
I spent the entirety of the game on hard just using whatever weapon and stance I found fun at the time.

Dunno but i love the shit out of it, beating bosses in dojo never felt boring

Naosuke and Blue Demon

Focus on naosuke, blue demon is buffed

Alcock & Blade Twin

Focus on Alcock he's pretty weak if you throw all the barrels at him

Hospital Garden

The only hard fight because of Aritomo, still one of the most annoying to fight

If you ignore the advantage system you've now removed any reason to care about your stance so you've devolved the game to just learning timing sequences and pressing a parry button correctly. The game is simplistic because parries are simplistic, regardless of how tight you make your one dimensional timing mini-game it is still a one dimensional timing mini-game which doesn't interact with any of the other mechanics in the game. So long as parries are as rewarding and as important as they are in these games every weapon will feel the same, every build will feel the same, the differences between skills and stances won't matter, spacing and movement won't matter and your success or failure will ultimately depend on pressing one button at the right time

You can spam fine in Wolong the best way to play is parrying to gain meter then spamming the same damage rotation for every fight

I see you fall into the incredibly autistic catagory.

Ronin crawled so Hirule Warriors 2 could actually rise, trust the plan.

the best way to play is parrying

This is wrong. Parry is the slowest way to kill any bosses.

If you tolerate this parryslop then your children will be next

your success or failure will ultimately depend on pressing one button at the right time

If you mastering the timing, unless you're mastering enemy animation timing then you're just torturing yourself, and you can't win by spamming parry

it is unreal to me that TN seemingly know all of this given how SOP goes out of its way to give you a limited parry with plenty of other defensive options, but then every release since has just gone all in on this boring playstyle, why even include a dodge in ronin?

Did you forget to read the rest of the sentence? are you seriously trying to argue dodging is in any way useful in WL?

I've been finding it boring so far and the ubisoft template doesn't help. I feel conpelled to finish cause I spent $50 on it.

Because it's not like Nioh or Wo Long or even Jack's game
It's more focused on the open world and story
It's like an even worse version of Elden Ring if you can somehow imagine that

They're most likely done with the concept of the series, anyway. It never took off since A, it was unoptimized as fuck, barely reaching 30fps in some cases despite being on 'performance' mode. The combat was a massive, massive step down in terms of variety. The story was, at best, utter shit and the 'spoiler'/twist was obvious in the first hour.

What pissed me off the most was that many, many moves from the previous games were in it but for enemies only. Like the hatchets moveset. It was a slap in the face to the players

i don't understand the game

I think the game might be too high iq for you

Just drop it if you're not enjoying it

f83UhPg5901.jpg - 239x211, 7.47K

holy shit you are dumb. MA and magic are the best way to fight bosses in Wo Long.

two parries

npc never recovers

Sop has my favourite parry system and just defensive options in general. Soul shield being limited incentivising good timing, you having 2 break gauges to incentivise constant chain cancelling, still getting access to a perfect weapon parry while also having specific weapons lean into a weapon parry play style like greatsword's enhanced guard which gives you faster gs attack speed at higher swordsman affinity. It's just great

be dumb enough to be shitty console exclusive

wonder why you dont make good money

What are you on about?

In this post i literally say you parry to gain meter (spirit) so you can spam damage rotations (obviously meaning MA/WZ) are you alright?

You should try to do a full lap around the dojo with this combo.

I've played the game enough to know that your webm is an AI bug that has nothing to do with the actual game mechanics, fuck off

kek this is completely unintended like the spear/tonfa cycles in nioh 2. but yeah the guy who figured it out and you copied it from was probably pretty smart

I parried some attack and used some MA and magics and this is somehow spamming

I enjoyed Ronin about as much as Elden Ring.
I think they're both good but flawed games.
Also, the thing people say about Ronin about how every enemy is fought in the same way can also be applied to ER, at least it was the case for me cause I beat the game just rolling and spamming the weapon art of whatever thing I was using at the moment.

They do recover, normally, this isn't a sequence which stunlocks NPCs because the stagger state after a parry only lasts a few seconds and beyond that point they can block in the middle of hitstun. So the webm could be a few things such as an unintentional glitch or just cheat engine giving you infinite Panic state duration

A Cheating bastard, with whole UI off and chinese language is already a redflag

Tecmo's self-sabotage, as always

You can't since when panic status is off enemy is able to strike you back, it's using some sort of cheat/cheat engine like said because chinese suck at games

I beat the game just rolling and spamming the weapon art of whatever thing I was using at the moment.

Me too. For that elden was a bit dull for me but the world is intriguing enough that I do like coming back to it

Because players have terminally shit taste. Same reason why The First Berserker, despite being a genuinely good game (story is ass though) didn't sell well. Same reason why Expedition 33, despite being a genuinely terrible game, sold 2 million copies. Same reason why everyone flocked to Dragon's Dogma 2 instead of buying Rise of the Ronin on release day. Players are legitimately retarded

The combat is very good, but not for 70 fucking hours where every mission is just "ah oops, i guess i have to fight you, who would've guessed haha".
By the end of it you actually end up liking the open world activities more. The encyclopedia for every single district and thing you meet is great and the horseback/firearm/gliding challenges are actually fun enough to the point I wished there were more of them or at least there would be more variety in the main quest. Camera quests were fun too.

cope

2.mp4 - 1280x720, 3.37M

Turning the UI off probably implies that it's infinite panic state duration via cheat engine because you'd be able to see the Panic state stuck on in the UI

UI on this time

Suddenly enemy is able to recover

wooowwww would you look at that

BiliBili

So you don't even play the game yourself? What are you doing in this thread?

I think the game was fine but I had some issues with it and barely touched NG+

The input system sucks where stance swapping is relative to the stance you're in currently. The HUD keeps going invisible all the time.
Being on the defensive is boring because traditional blocking is heavily nerfed with massive stamina damage taken while parries restore stamina and destroy enemy stamina.
Panicked is a gay status that's meant to give you opening but absolutely unfun when it gets applied to you. Status effects take forever to apply and barely last. You thought you were gonna do some quick swap shenanigans to build corruption? Welp nope... unless you use a bow that somehow applies status in 1 hit.

Some of the bosses attack patterns aren't fun to learn. Sure you can bruteforce them and learn the rythms but I feel like the animation designers did much better jobs in their previous games.

The open world is non consequential and in the end I was enjoying the traditional linear missions the best. I still think the maps are fantastically well designed but the gameplay design to give you an incentives to traverse them isn't there at all.

The performance is fucking dogshit and even on a 4080 you will not get a steady 120fps, which is really much needed because it makes the combat so much more enjoyable.

I'd rather play Way of Samurai than Tecmoslop

Post your clip bro. I can't play as good as that guy

I play this game to scratch the itch of WotS but the combat really keeps me on

moving goalpost

so it's not a parryslop now?

c.mp4 - 1280x720, 3.85M

kill yourself

I like how this thread got hijacked by a chink showing off his chat engine clips

The best parry system is one which has as little reward tied to parrying as possible. SoP does a good job yes
I think Dark Souls is probably responsible for this idea that landing a parry needs to make a jackpot rain from the sky and refill all your resources while everything on screen simultaneously explodes and a choir of virgins sucks your cock. When you put so much weight onto one simple mechanic which doesn't interact with anything else it's inevitable that every other element of the game will be undervalued

Phase 1.webm - 1024x576, 3.93M

I like how you had 0 understanding of the game so it looks like cheats to you.

God, this is trash

if they were his clips they wouldn't have bilibili overlayed onto them

Probably some other issues that anons have listed but for me the major fucking asslick was the camera during certain fights and battle area limitations.
Some of these fights were not designed for the area you fight them in. Just not enough space.
That said the combat itself for me is chef's kiss 10/10

Is this your clip? I thought about doing a build around senshin stance but in rifts it's a little lackluster without a ton of investment. The senshin parry is pretty funny but with the liberator affinity that extends parry window it becomes a joke.

The hope advent fight is pretty fun but he's a bit predictable. I think only thing that caught me off guard was lack of stagger on soul shield in phase 2

I love SoP but what I like a lot about Ronin compared to TN's other ARPGs is that swinging your weapon at the enemy is not accompanied by billions of particle effects and flashing lights.

I only post my own clips but I haven't played the game since it came out so you shouldn't ask me about gearing, my phase 2 looks less impressive. Senshin stance is just an example of a parry that is useful without needing massive rewards attached to it

Bully WoL.webm - 960x540, 3.93M

This is a big issue I had in sop if i ever had neon and soph in party. They just aoe elemental spam and I can't see shit

I don't like these particle effects either but it's mostly a webm problem, you can see much better when you're actually playing it just rapes low bitrate videos

Well yeah. Journos. Those who are less than scum who want most japanese games dead and buried and who are the absolute worst possible source for anything approaching honest informed views regarding the medium they claim to be reporting on. As far as the actual team on the game, about the closest that ever got was their response in interviews when they were asked about the reaction, and even they said, to paraphrase: "It's a bit weird and we don't get it, maybe because we know how it all connects, but if someone went to a Chaos Shrine to find Chaos, no shit they're going to say that a few times. It's fine if you're having fun though, maybe you'll want to keep counting how many times he says it or something." Not marketing but at most a sure whatever. This does speak really loudly to the danger of mass crowd assumptions though, which is what I was highlighting to begin with.
Both are fantastic, though both were given the short end of the stick in too many ways and they both deserve more than they will ever get. Maybe in relative terms SoP got done even dirtier considering the potential but it's hard to measure such a thing and painful to do so. World is a fuck.

I'm still figuring shit out and only on rift floor 10 or so but most of my play has been around greatsword. Parries + high swordsman affinity feel pretty essential for gs to get parry attack speed increase that makes more combos viable

It's odd but annoyingly I think the chaos memeing is what sticks in a lot of people's heads years later, even if that wasn't dev intention. I think I read the same dev response you did and they were a bit upset about the meme reception, claiming Jack is serious (which obviously makes sense if you know the whole story and how it connects to the other games)

I had fun with it on PS5 and didn't feel the need to buy it again on Steam a year later. Also the PC port apparently had lots of performance issues

Pretty much. It helps the memory of the game live on which is one benefit, but it very much sucks to see people take it as a negative connotation or have it ruin their first impression of the game since they go into it with such assumptions. SE might not have encouraged it but they aren't entirely blameless considering they spoiled the Garland thing in trailers, it being obvious to a lot of people doesn't matter when the story is written around it being a reveal. At the end of the day it is what it is, and one can only hope more people do try out the game and are willing to see it for what it is.

I do think from the people who have tried it the response is overwhelmingly positive, but damn did it bomb on release. Pretty sad since it didn't deserve it

I wanted to like it but the open world is REALLY boring

You're still in the area where you don't quite have to put together a build yet and can live off the Warrior of Light set, but while every build will want 400 or 600% of its basic job anyway, 600% Void Knight will give permanent Haste. Actually putting together a build isn't something you need to think about until you unlock Manikin Material and can do it for free anyway, so just focus more on your job/ability choices and synergy while learning the boss movesets and mechanics. When it comes to Greatsword in particular, seeing when you can instantly go into Enhanced Guard is extremely valuable.

loved Nioh

loved Nioh 2

loved SoP

loved Wo Long

loved Ronin

will buy whatever TN makes next

The games are fun, simple as. I don't care what retarded normalgroid NPCs think about them.

Love the greatsword. First thing I did on bahamut difficulty was unlock level 300 shrine mission and just run to the end and beat my head against chaos advent till I beat him without taking any damage with gs. Just such a fun combat system

Fun games are fun

Because this game is Dark Souls 2 of Nioh "series"

What does this even mean

No boob slider

No heavy attack string

Boring open world

Why would anyone play this when Nioh 2 exists?

Why would anyone play this when Nioh 2 exists?

Because I already have 400 hours on snoystation and 250 more on steam for nioh 2

He doesn't know either.

some experimental deviation from the series, for example:

we don't want to add any mythical monsters, but we will add 2 meter tall abnormal looking people as opponents.

I'd say every nioh like outside of n1/2 implemented enough changes to set itself apart one way or another.

fanboys of the studio expecting their new game to be even better than the previous hit

get an ugly barely functioning jankmaxed slop that was rushed to meet the sheduled release date

its an unfortunate inbetween of AA and AAA. For me, it was too damn easy, and midnight is like a psuedo ng+. I wish it just gave me midnight content and difficulty for my first run.
If the game got a super expanded directors cut or something it would be a masterpiece.

abnormal looking people

you mean to tell me this is not achievable natty?

Fucking Yasuke is more fitting to the entourage than this fella
