What went wrong?
Season of Discovery
people wanted "vanilla plus" but Blizzard made "Turtle WoW"
but Blizzard made "Turtle WoW"
They did not. They made "Retail WoW"
heh
WHAT IF WE TOOK THE GAME YOU LOVE
AND PUT WHACKY NEW SKILLS IN THAT TURN THE CLASS BALANCE UPSIDE DOWN!!!
WOAH LOOK AT THIS COOL PvP SIDE CONTENT AND NOW THESE DUNGEONS ARE RAIDS BECAUSE WE SAID SO!
minimal effort and it felt like it
modern feeling rune system clashed with the classic game feel, didn't seem like they knew what they were doing or had a solid vision for what they wanted SoD to be
They needed to actually make a lot of new content and they didn't really do that at the start. Having a dungeon turned into a raid was just lazy as fuck.
We needed bare minimum two new dungeons + 1 raid per patch. Rebalanced gear.
Oh and the game not being completely workshopped to death, constant changes and nerfs killed all interest so fast.
The dev team has no idea what made vanilla unique so they just copypasted retail game design and class balance into vanilla and called it a day
blizzdrones will defend this by saying "w-w-well it's just LE TESTING GROUND for the REAL classic plus!" as if that will be any different
Its retail-lite
the devs just didn't understand what people wanted, or the design philosophy of vanilla WoW. the idea of adding new things to discover around Azeroth was a cool idea on paper, but it was done in such an obtuse and unfun way. instead of rewarding exploration and discovery, it was mostly just a grindfest or hidden behind such obscure things that nobody would stumble on it naturally. and on top of that, the runes were totally broken so getting them wasn't even rewarding. the "discovery" aspect wasn't fun, the "new" raids weren't fun. so what was the point?
Everything was fine until they stopped adding runes and just started buffing the shit out of ret pallies. What also pissed me off was the fact that they caved to the influencers and after the first patch they started telling people what was being added instead of letting us.....discover it for ourselves. The final nail in the coffin for me was the scarlet enclave raid which was just a bunch of re-used assets that made it look like a shitty private server/fanmade creation
oh and another thing, the devs didn't seem to care for or understand the world of vanilla WoW. a lot of the writing for new quests introduced was so out of place and jarring. there were opportunities to expand on the lore and expand class identity, but was mostly just used for shitty jokes and retail-tier writing.
I remember when I did the shaman dual-wield questline, and it didn't get into shaman lore at all, it was just a series of unfunny joke quests. I dropped it around that point.
What went wrong?
The third patch basically set the game on fire and blizzard didnt bother to piss it out until it was way too late. Incursions were such a bad idea it almost felt like some butthurt retail dev was intentionally sabotaging the game
because it's just retail gameplay with vanilla maps
they even made a new raid and its just vanilla maps with reskinned tbc items
they didnt make anything actually new and they killed everything that made vanilla good
who does this even appeal to
hmmm, let's add instanced questing areas with infinitely-repeatable quests that give a fuckton of gold and also rep for gear that is pre-bis for all classes
what could possibly go wrong
It's still unfortunately Vanilla wow
game is a clusterfuck of unbalanced garbage and doesn't feel like vanilla at all
literally retail-styled class design and player power is spiked so fucking high that people are soloing dungeons with ease in basic gear that can be acquired from 5mans
"nooo stop criticizing it you can't complain because this is just a beta test for THE REAL CLASSIC+"
genuinely what is wrong with these people
still better than whatever blizzard did after vanilla
it's not though
SoD has changed so much that it doesn't resemble vanilla at all in any aspect, other than taking place in old azeroth
it's Cataclysm game design + class design transplanted into vanilla content
Alex won
is being unbalanced okay when warriors do it?
you mean the guy who bought gold and got killed by a level 17 hunter that he tried to gank on his level 25 druid?
LMAO
you don't like thing
that means you must want the exact extreme opposite of that thing
die, false dichotomyfag
Alex was right
didn't even bother with adding dwarf shamans and tauren paladins
I asked you a question, dont dodge it
Is it okay when warriors do it?
If not, why does it matter if balance got flipped to something else?
kill yourself right now
Good. Faction-specific classes are one of the core pillars of vanilla that the devs thankfully didn't demolish.
Disgusting.
Because what's the point of rebalancing something if it's not balanced?
Oh wait i know, it's to get people to play fotm specs and keep them subbed
cow paladins are stupid
Adding retail abilities without even trying to disguise them as something new, shit patch pacing, godawful community infested by thirdies who only care about making a couple bucks, rune quests that are just plain uninteresting, and all "new" raids being recycled garbage. But I'm sure they'll learn from SoD and magically fix everything in the "real" classic+.
It was originally pitched to be snapshots of Vanilla. Designed to add new lore to tighten things up for how they want for the future retail stories they want to tell.
Then SoD flopped around phase 3 and the snapshots of vanilla with future class balance thrown in got all thrown out the window to bum-rush Paladin main fanficition cause the lead dev's a Paladin fanboy.
Metzen should've tard wrangled the team more
THE BOTS
THE FUCKING BOTS
LITERALLY CHAT IS SPAMMED CONSTANTLY WITH BOTS SELLING SUMMONS
YOU CANNOT IGNORE THEM ALL
"le paladins le paladins!"
conveniently ignores how shaman was a broken OP hero class from phase 2 -> phase 6
hordebabby detected
global ignore list addon
problem solved
crying about shamans
you are the same retard as 99.9% of faggots who played vanilla and didnt learn how to play paladin
I play both and the pally favoritism is insane desu
have to download a third party addon to solve a problem that shouldn't exist
NOOO I WANT EVERYTHING TO BE SOLVED FOR ME
sounds like minecraft is your speed, zoomie
I've played the entire SoD since Phase 1. What went wrong was: the devs had no vision or direction beyond the first phase. Literally just throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. This has lead to absolute dogshit phases with awful ideas and fun phases where you just raid with your pals. It's total mess of systems and progression right now, that I have no idea how anyone could get into it at this point.
he fucking potted, thats cheating
The basic idea (classic+) is good. The problem is the devs lack talent. They are simply too dumb and soulless to do it properly.
probably the bumfuck retarded hotfixes, hotnerfs and almost back to back daily maintenance in the first few weeks of phase 1. i was playing a troll hunter and had to respec 3 times in a week and when i saw my respec cost hitting the double digit amounts of gold i simply unsubbed.
Leveling too fast
Gold too easy to earn
Too many spells introduced
entire premise of this retarded funserver was predicated on the idea that warriors were "op" in vanilla
ends up being a power fantasy for hybrids (ie shamans and paladins) that were """forced""" to heal in classic by evil warrior overlords
big surprise it's a fucking mess
The fundamental issue with any form of Vanilla+, Classic+, etc is that you need a story writer willing to write new and exciting things as a back drop for your new and exciting content.
The main issue of why this will always be a problem for the Classic team is because they've got no actual writers due to coasting on the work of old devs for years and have to work in tandem with the retail team giving them scraps and ideas that will only serve to help Retail's story along.
If the retail writers are currently busy like they are at this moment having to outline and prep 3 expansions worth of narrative, classic side will be on the back burner and the narrative choices made to justify the limited content their unskilled workers can make, will come off as nothing but questionable.
Even their big SoD exclusive thing, the Scarlet Enclave stuff comes off as nothing but pure fanfic that exists to justify a raid that struggles to sell itself on anything more than come collect this shiny new toy that breaks the established setting.
It wasnt vanilla plus it was retail minus.
Devs played priest and druid and made them batshit insane OP. Priests were already a top tier class in vanilla, their one weakness was they werent great at DPS, they were amazing healers and good offensively and defensively in PvP though, but they got the hybrid buff treatment other healers got and were made into basically a hero class.
Also the quest design of the new quests was retarded.
find these 8 becons out across the world
literally impossible to do without a 3rd party website to tell you where they are because the game gives no hints where they are and they are in the most random places across the entire game map, like 1 being underwater 5 zones away from quest giver. So you not only had to look up where to find them but then actually walking over to them all took like 2 hours
bro its just like heckin vanilla you have to walk all over the place!!!
no one even back then really liked the quests where all you did was walk back and forth but at least even then they didnt take over an hour of just walking back and forth and were often bread crumb quests meant to introduce you to a new quest hub.
also the nightmare realm shit was gacha level shit. it COULD have been interesting but they made it a repetitive loop thing where you just mindlessly run from 1 thing to another in a loop then repeat again and again.
This encapsulates the mind of the sodomite and why sod ultimately just failed in the end
Classictards (or more accurately, people who don't actually like or play classic) cannot help but view the game through the lens of raiding and raiding alone. Raids is the only thing that matters and being "top dps" is the only thing that matters.
The argument for SoD when it came to class balance was "well Warriors had their time being op busted pieces of shit in classic so now it's MY turn" with every faggot wanting their piece of the op pie. Go take a look at the forums at any one time and the discourse is generally "x class gets y, so why can't i? it's not fair aggrend pls fix!"
Can Warriors round up 20 mobs and aoe them down with blizzard? Can Warriors solo dungeons for gold? Can Warriors solo elite quests? Can Warriors not be a free HK in pvp? If we take raiding out of the equation then Warriors are by and large the worst class in the game. It just so happens that with a substantial investment of time, gold and gear, they become power houses under perfect conditions. But of course the soddy doesn't understand that because their entire perception of the game comes from 90th percentile parses on wowlogs
Paladins and Shamans have been by far the biggest fucking whiners when it comes to glass balanse and they just riff off of eachother, always demanding more. It's all so tiresome
that and the "classic team" is literally like 5 people and they're split between like 6 versions of the game
feral is meh, resto is meh, boomie is the only one that is "OP" and even then, only in PvP, mediocre in PvE
Because what's the point of rebalancing something if it's not balanced?
variety
Raids is the only thing that matters
correct thats where the best gear comes from and is the majority of patch content
didnt read the rest of your cope
sodomite can't read
you couldn't read it if you wanted to
correct thats where the best gear comes from
gear for doing raids, and nothing else
face it, raiding is just a minigame. you might as well play mario party
naxx gear is actually good for PvP too
please stop coping, raiding is the focus of the game and warriors completely dominate it, both as dps and as tank
selling mage boosts is not real content
naxx gear is actually good for PvP too
but you said raiding is the only thing that matters
it is, PvP is a minigame
but if you want to pretend like PvP matters then it still makes raiding critical and warriors are still disgustingly overpowered
Nah
Things that happen in instances are not the real game
Things that happen in the open world (the game is an MMO) are the actual game
Raiding is a minigame only enjoyed by the autistic few. Once they started catering to raiders the game died.
why shouldn't warriors dominate it? someone has to, if its not warriors and instead its mages, would you still be complaining?
raiding is the focus of the game and warriors completely dominate it, both as dps and as tank
They recycled content and presented it as new.
retcuck seething for 2/10ths of a century about warriors and rogues
jfc how pathetic
It was amazing when it first launched. Brand new spin on classic WoW. Many MANY people come back and are having a hell of a time. Everyone's looking for the new runes. Some classes new gimmicks are a bit OP but nothing too insane, others a bit undertuned (rogue tank was worthless initially) but a few tweaks were all that was needed. PvP was popping and finally fun for the first time in a while. Then Blizzard being Blizzard they naturally found so many ways to fuck it up more and more. I quit at Phase 3 when ST turned out to be a complete joke, and the incursions were absolute bullshit that wrecked the economy.
