Biggest scam in vidya history. 800 million dollars but they announce they are out of money again?
Biggest scam in vidya history. 800 million dollars but they announce they are out of money again?
My friend got into this recently. He's just trying it out but he's friends with people that have blown thousands into it. It's a matter of time.
It's not a scam, it's perfectly playable in early access. They're building an entire universe for crying out loud.
Quit spreading misinformation.
They hired like 500 people and those people need to get paid.
this game is never coming out, and any person that has spent more than $0.01 on this game is a fucking idiot
Maybe they should release squadron 46 to make up the money
good devs could've made 20 fucking good games with much money but people want MMO space slop
never played it but the gameplay seemed so basic and scripted in that trailer. the shooting sequence was no different than NES games
What kind of person even falls for this?
Seems to me more like a cult than a scam
It's not a scam
I agree
it's perfectly playable in early access
Yes, but buggy in ridiculous ways
They're building an entire universe
False
People that are desperate for a space game not entirely superficial.
While I think they are mismanaged, creating new software tech within the boundaries of existing hardware is a massive fucking financial sinkhole.
I will say this, there's a reason nobody has stepped up to the plate to try to make this. With over 800 million on the table, why hasn't EA, or Activision, or Take-Two stepped up to the plate to make this or something like it? Because creating the tech is financial sinkhole.
I'm excited to play Squadron 42, and maybe the online game too when that comes out, but I'm not spending a penny on it before S42 is released.
They should put ads in the game. No I'm not joking. If people buy $3000 drawings of spaceships they will buy anything.
They said Squadron 42 is 2026. But they couldn't commit to a date. Why do we constantly arrive at the point of no date? it's a reoccurring theme and it's bad. They've delayed and delayed and when you have no actual deadline it's just an imaginary number to say 2026. There needs to be something in stone or we're going to see delayed until further notice again.
but they announce they are out of money again
You wish
I spent a little over six thousand dollars on a computer to do ai things with.
The only game I play regularly is star citizen, I enjoy it but I am a space autist.
I also recently got an oled monitor and it has made a huge difference in the space game.
For better or worse Chris Roberts is the only one making proper PC games today. Everything else on the market is consolized trash. That is why I'm slightly forgiving to a lot of CIG's misteps and mishaps. Otherwise PC focused development has been eclipsed by console casual company Rockstar games. Rockstar make absolute garbage that was designed for dumb niggers with playstations and yet we try to prop up that terrible company in our medium. Despite the fact that they don't give a fuck about PC.
It's not even about the tech, it's about the sheer scale and insane feature creep. This is not a space MMO, it's a do everything game that also comes with its own galaxy that's not procedurally generated.
Because promising features and whipping up some prototypes is easy, actually putting all of that in the game is hard.
Even if you had the tech for a do everything game you won't be able to actually make all the assets or balance all of the mechanics or make them fun.
It's all well and good to have the ability to board a ship and engage in fps combat with your friends but once the novelty wears off will your friends even want to spend all their time in battles just sitting in a shuttle waiting to board only to all die when you get shot down? And once you replace those real players with npcs your super expensive to make fps module becomes a bad single round match with bots.
Same for the countless other systems shoved into the game like all the vip bar and club larpery.
Also worth noting that CDPR sold out on PC gamers. Warhorse Studio sold out by the first Kingdom Come release and compromised their vision. Well before all the KCD2 drama.
insane feature creep
Like I said, mismanaged.
This is an example of sunk cost fallacy. Maybe once upon a time they believe the game would come out once upon a kickstarte a decade ago. Now, they gotta keep putting money into it so they don't feel like they got financially screwed. "Just a little more money and the game will finally come out.. eventually.. in another 5 years. Trust the plan!"
The insane feature creep and the do-everything nature of the game is why it created enough diehard whales to get this much funding in the first place.
Good paypiggy.
For better or worse Chris Roberts is the only one making proper PC games today.
Could you name some of the games he's been making "today"?
perfectly playable
It's extremely buggy and nowhere near being a proper game (ie not an aimless sandbox)
THIS, can't wait for my great grandchildren to enjoy kinocitizen in 2125
early access
It's been thirteen years bro
Squadron 42 and Star Citizen. The fact that it's development has not been focused on any specific hardware has allowed dramatic changes to it throughout the development. It's as ambitious as the stuff Crytek were doing. Making games for future hardware, not specifically hardware of right now. That is why it is truly PC focused in that sense.
Goddamn its wild seeing people here try to defend the trashfire that is Star Citizen. They break shit massively every other update. Squadron 42 that people are now saying is 2026 had an original release date of fucking 2014. Not to mention it was announced in 2012. If it comes out next year it will be the same amount of time between Duke Nukem Forever being announced and finally released.Theres no defending this shit anymore its just a bunch of dumbasses trying to justify the thousands they spent on a lackluster tech demo rather than accept they got played.
Post purchase history
I'm also building a new universe, and I only ask for 400m so can you PayPal it to me?
I will add onto this post. You all may not like what Chris Robert's is doing or don't think he can deliver, it's a whaling scam etc.
I'm just stating that this specific development model is gone for games because everything is currently held back by consoles. Nothing is made for PC anymore. You always have to have a target for something nowadays, because you need to have confirmation that a build of it will work on a console.
I put in $80 a few years ago and I've had a blast. Even if the full scope is never realized I'm fine with that, I've gotten my money's worth. No amount of seetheposting will make me decide I didn't actually have fun.
if "proper" pc games take decades to come out, a billion dollars in crowdfunding, and are feature crept beyond what a regular person would consider sane then I'm glad those kinds of games don't exist.
Being slightly forgiving to the scam artist known as chris roberts was your first mistake.
Making games for future hardware
they keep making it for future hardware because they can't keep up with new gpu releases. The fucking GTX 500 series released in the same year that star citizen began development
No amount of seetheposting will make me decide I didn't actually have fun.
Fair, but no amount of fun posting will convince others that you aren’t a gullible retard.
The scientology of vidya.
You all know how this works by now
yfw you didn't fall for scam citizen
This aged like milk.
Being slightly forgiving to the scam artist known as chris roberts was your first mistake.
I don't know why anyone even remotely familiar with Chris Roberts wasn't expecting this honestly. This is far from the first time a space game he was in charge of kept getting pushed back due to feature creep and going over what any sane person would consider a reasonable budget.
The only difference is previously he had someone over his head who was finally ready to boot him out of the development room and make sure the game actually came out.
Sure, just like how the lead developer said he'd never do things like have pictures of himself on vacation riding a yacht because it would upset the backers.
When his wife/pocket bitch shared pictures of them on a yacht, they banned anyone sharing those pictures lmao
People that are desperate for a space game not entirely superficial.
x4 has been out for ages howbever
I'm glad those kinds of games don't exist.
Well that's where we have differing ideas of how the PC gaming development (non existent btw) should be. I don't think developers should be constrained to considering if their advanced simulations could hope to run on a pajeet station 5 with an underpowered CPU. We've had no game for a long time that ever prioritized our hardware in ways that matter, there's always a comprise. Rockstar treats us like second class citizens by holding their game builds hostage for 2 years for christ sake. So the biggest players in the industry practically say PC doesn't matter.
x4
Has always had three problems. 1. All the ships fly like bricks. 2. All ships are a stepping stone, there's no point in making a build for almost any of the ships in the game. 3. There's no way to just run a persistent server like you would with minecraft and fuck around with 8 friends across the universe.
