B-but I need an RTX card to do that!

Yeah and it sucks because the whole game was literally just built around having the most impressive graphics possible in 2004, it's such a programmer's idea of what a good game is

Mirrors don't work in modern games even with rtx.

Yeah, and it looks like it's from 2004.

2004

It doesn't look like it's from 2004

Video games never needed to progress forward from Doom 3 / Half-Life 2 / Far Cry 1 / STALKER SoC graphics. Everything further than that is complete bloat that can be done cheaper and with no loss of artistic style or intention. Graphicsniggers ruined video games.

WAOW!! The bottle of beer has bubbles in it!!!

Said nobody ever, who the fuck cares.

It set the standard. It should have been released and made available to Devs years sooner. Like when it was first demo'd. Then it would have had games made using it, instead of UE.

It didn't do deferred rendering though.
Killzone 2 was as demanding and looked much better. Primarily because it did, and used post processing.

Then again Doom 3 was made to run on the original Xbox. Only the original Killzone could run on that. With tricks maybe better. Shellshock Nam 67 used the Killzone engine. Killzone struggled on PS2. I prefer it's looks to Doom 3 in part. Both have good design. The dirty look outclasses the shiny. I'm not a big fan of specular maps.

Was it proper reflection or one of those numerous tricks? Still more impressive than what is allegedly available in modern games (i.e. nothing).

just one chubby hobo on the screen

Whoa. I'm guessing he's twice the size of hobo models from the previous generation?

Still more impressive than what is allegedly available in modern games (i.e. nothing).

But it is available in modern games, if you stop falling for the screen space jew and actually implement real reflections.

it's true, Doom 3 is like a 2GB game

The bottle of beer has bubbles in it!!!

Which can just be an animated texture

having the most impressive graphics possible in 2004

The only impressive thing about Doom 3 is dynamic shadows. Otherwise HL2 easily btfo it.

wtf how did they get raytracing to work in 2004? I thought you needed rtx to have shadows and reflections?

who the fuck keeps posting multiple doom 3 threads

me, i did it specifically to annoy you

No. At no point did Half Life 2 ever look good. Before Witcher 3 it was the worst game ever made. It also killed VTMB, and Troika with it. Valve are the most degenerate entity to have effected games. The world would have been better without them.

Doom 3 was so fucking dogshit it never got mods or updoged 4k textures

It got plenty of mods that made it look amazing, it didn't need texture mods, but it had them too, adding parallax. Amazing such a better game was released so close to utter pieces of shit like half life 2 and UT2. Neither of which look good let alone hold up against modern games.

doom 2016 is retro

I agree, but I would also say DLC, microtransactions, and streaming all helped ruin it, too.

you couldn't make bigger worlds with that tech
gfx really peaked at ps4 and been getting worse since

HL2 has significantly higher quality models and animation, there isn't a single idtech4 game that has decent looking human characters even with mods.

these threads are always funny because the games look like low-effort retro indie shit

meanwhile peak modern AAA graphics with raytracing yet zero dynamic lighting

meanwhile peak modern AAA graphics

i don't think anyone on the planet would describe the technological abortion known as Monster Hunter Wilds as "peak modern AAA graphics"

now post riddick

Last time I used Gamespy was to add matchmaking for Dark Forces 2 Jedi Knight and playing with mods and custom maps.

This is a game from 2004.

that's how I look and dress in 2025!

actual jaw dropping stuff

It looks better than most games 10 years its senior

2016 isn't that long ago
it's only
nine
years
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

It did have mirrors. I remember because i still think about that mirror jumpscare...

real reflections are too expensive since you render your game additional time for each reflection
ray tracing is much better in the long run

I need 3D VCache as well!
