If it's anything like Daybreak (which it looks like) you can totally take out normal enemies in just action combat if you want. Turn-based is only forced for boss fights.

I dropped SC when it released on steam during the earthquake story(act 2). I think the remakes will keep my attention better.

I dropped it in act 2 for months as well that's the most boring part, but it gets really good once you push past those initial chapters where nothing's really happening.

First game you're constantly going through new towns and learning about the world for the first time, it's a charming adventure.
Firts half of the second game is just going through the exact same locations with almost nothing new happening besides 1 random new villain being introduced at the end of each one. It gets better later but it starts off far more boring.

Judging from the webm, the entire party spamming attacks does like 200 damage to the bird thing and then hitting it for over 2000 damage barely moves its health bar, so it’s one of the systems where being significantly higher level allows you to bypass the turn based “random” battle.

You don't really need to be way higher level, in Kuro I just kill any weaker enemies in action combat and only fight ones with bigger health bars.
