A shitty person that is self aware about it is arguably worse than a shitty person that is completely oblivious. They know what they're doing is wrong and can understand the maladjusted thought processes that lead to them doing it, but still make no real concerted effort to become better people. A clueless shitty person is just acting thoughtlessly, a self aware shitty person is choosing to be a shitty person because it's the path of least resistance and self improvement is hard. And they'll admit to being a shitty person as if acknowledging it somehow makes them superior or absolves them of their behavior.
