They could easily explore what the Writers are, their conflict with Painters, the other worlds made by Painters, focus on Clea's personal war, hell, they could outright make the main character a painter, hopping between new worlds they've made in an effort to find some kind of answer to something or find someone lost in the world of paintings. They could just make a totally new world/story as well; I'd imagine they could come up with plenty.

Regardless of what they do, the only mistake they could make is outright continuing Maelle/Alicia's story. It's done; things were explained, conflicts resolved, and both endings have a clear, definitive message/outcome. Hell, outside of the family itself, all characters you encounter are either wiped away or put into a pseudo-paradise that will likely melt over time. But we don't need to see that; there's not much point.

I kind of feel like the developers for clair obscure would start running into the same issues Squeenix did if they go down that path though.

Its the issue of having to change up the gameplay in a significant way on the next sequel to keep the game fresh. Every new FF game changed core mechanics or completely altered them. There is only so many ways you can put a spin on turn based combat, you can change the way characters level or learn abilities, change how pictos work, but how many variations of this is possible?

Its why square did things like ATB, espers, jobs, junctions, materia system, sphere grid, etc, etc. Pictos is almost the same exact thing FF9 did, only difference is pictos are 'accessories' that teach you skills, where FF9 taught skills with the armor and weapons.

The combat in claire obscure is fun, but would you play the sequels if they all kept doing the same thing? It has to be changed or people will grow bored no matter how much they say they love turn based combat.

There is nothing Final Fantasy about Exp 33. Its like a Nu-sona clone more or less. Why does this comparison get made constantly? GUI, combat, animation... All Persona except for a few tweaks in combat so its not complete rip off.

And the game after that can be another RPG but this time it's an Open World version of Paris that's about the Tailors of Paris rebelling against their oppression by the other 3 orders of magic.

The only changes are in combat, the obvious ones are enemies have greater or lesser HP and damage. The other is that the timing window for parrying and dodging is slitghtly different, being more forgiving in the "Story" difficulty, and tighter in the "Expert" difficulty. This actually impacts the game a lot because you may memorize the attack patterns from foes which remain the same, but if you're relying on muscle memory for the parry timing you may often fail the smaller window in tougher difficulties and have to readapt.

The game in its normal difficulty isnt terribly easy or terribly hard. The main plot is designed for the difficulty to scale somewhat with your progress in the story, while the optional content varies from being the same difficulty or much higher. I imagine that on "Story" difficulty and remaining on the main path is achievable for any casual gamer, or even new gamers with good coordination.
Doing the main path and optional content in normal difficulty is enjoyable for gamers in general. The Expert mode is alright for gamers who get the extra kick out of the challenge.

The game doesn't have much replayabilty aside from wanting to use the secret NG+ weapon or hunting achievments, or replaying in Expert if you cleared Normal and really enjoyed the game. Though replayability is low, the experience, artwork and soundtracks are enjoyable and worth playing.
Its like playing God of War or Shadow of the Colossus.

I would rather they don't touch that going forward, however, they absolutely should keep making more Clair Obscur games, especially one that tells the story about the Writers side. This Painters v Writers conflict serves as the entire overarching backstory of the game yet we know virtually nothing about it.

If they do want to add to the Expedition 33 story, then I think an "Expedition Zero" DLC for the game is a no brainer. Imagine a story DLC witnessing the fracture and your party is Verso Renoir and Simon all learning the truth. Hell yeah.

If you don't feel like the painted people are at least people, then the Verso ending is unambiguously good. You've sacrificed nothing, and dealt with the family's grief.
If you feel like the painted people are people, then both ending suck, they just suck in different ways.
Verso's ending has you destroy an entire reality. To be fair, that only involved two people (Lune and Sciel) at this point (everyone else is already dead, unless you included nevrons, gestrals, and those other guys I can't remember the name of). But still, you are destroying a whole-ass reality. But... it is Verso's reality, and Verso, the creator, wants it gone.
Maelle's ending has her preserve that reality, but she clearly shouldn't have godlike powers - she remakes Verso against his will in order to satisfy herself, nevermind the continuing damage to her real family.

Both endings suck, and that's why they're good.
