Modern censorship is ruining video ga-

modern censorship is ruining video ga-

why change things that didnt need to be changed?

translate your own game then chud
oh wait, you can't even read japanese

The only thing AI will actually set right.

Censorship was bad then and it's still bad now.

this is unironically why i study japanese
i refuse to consume anything japanese in english
currently playing dragon quest on my gameboy color

Japanese to English translation is the worst thing that has ever happened in the history of translation.

だれ?アタシのオシリさわったの!

Hey, someone touched my butt!

OP is retarded. An accurate translation would be "Who was it that touched my butt?!"

japanese line is needlessly perverse in a country that has a public transport molestation problem

Yeah wow, I'm so sad they changed the line to be less degenerate

It's cute that you think AI isn't heavily biased with modern censorship ideals from the ground up. Maybe your bespkoe le epic nazi Taybot isn't but certainly any AI that's used in an industry wide level.

public transport molestation doesn't happen in our country, chuds

it's not a problem, it's part of modern western culture, chuds

Maybe

Sure thing, goyim.

Because despite what Anon Babbleirgins will tell you, the gayming industry was already faggy and woke back in the 90s.

Literally the same thing you fucking pedant.

One is a statement. The other, a query. And I shall continue my sacred duty of pointing out every last sloppy translation with or without your approval.

I see two sentences in that box there.

だれ? <- QUESTIONMARK

アタシのオシリさわったの! <- EXCLAMATION

So your faggy weeb translation can't be accurate at all because it's only one sentence.
Checkmate.

You will never have a Japanese girlfriend.

I translated it as faithfully as possible without it sounding unnaturally, but I'm sure you would like it translated word for word, no matter how unnatural it sounds, so here you go:

Who? My butt touched!

By your logic the english in the OP is right cuckboy

I will get one

必ずね

Yeah because "Hey!" and "Who?" totally change the meaning of the sentence drastically that you absolutely needed to buzz in.

My translation was objectively more faithful. I dislike when translators take liberties with what they're supposed to translate instead of just doing their job faithfully. You are too clueless to be aware of such things due to your monolingual so it's not worth trying to explain it to you.

Pedant translation corrector-kun, may you find the jap waifu of your dreams

"Hey, someone touched my butt" was faithful enough. The only issue was the English translation which removed the miniscule hint of sexual misconduct, not OP's translation.

Sloppy work will not be tolerated.

Why would you want a Japanese girlfriend when you can have a Chinese or Korean one? Or even any of the jungle Asians like Thais.

Japanese faces are too round. Mainland Asians have more aesthetically defined facial structures.

Good translation isn't about literal word-for-word accuracy but the intention of it.

Yeah? And what language do you play the Metal Gear Solid series in?

Agreed. And that's exactly why my translation is better.

Dumbass. People have always hated this shit, see Working Designs and Alundra.

Except you went ahead and did exactly that.

Remove the word "modern" then.

OP was making the point that this shit is going back decades.

without it sounding unnaturally

Well you failed by adding the "was it that" between "who" and "touched".

I don't know who has ever claimed "censorship is only bad these days."

the only two getting their butt touched in the crowd are men

the woman doing it is dual-wielding even

Definitely an unnecessary translation, they don't even have the excuse of simping for digital pixel holes this time.

The translations are lame and gay because corporations want them to be lame and gay, not because they would be helplessly at mercy of activist translators.

Except did what?

OP oversimplified the translation, resulting in meaning lost. I translated it while keeping it natural whilst also maintaining its meaning. I get you cretins have a tendency to heckle well-meaning and hard-working people such as myself, but try to keep your arguments based in reality.

I don't see any of these symbols matching up with your translation of "Who" or "who did".
What's it feel like getting caught in 4k, weeb?

who jap.jpg - 696x673, 33.9K

planning on playing twin snakes on my gamecube in japanese when i get good enough, even though i felt the MGS series was pretty good in english.

The first word was "Dare" which means who

Anon Babble says that

Or were you perhaps talking about the kanji
だれ is the same as 誰, the former is written in japanese letters, while the latter is written in chinese letters which the japanese also like to use. or maybe you're just making a joke. i cannot tell anymore.

No way. We have a billion screenshots floating around of annoying censorship from 16-bit games.

The first word was "Dare" which means who

The symbols ain't matching up.
Either google is lying to me or you. Of these two options, which is more likely?

Why are people replying to this retard seriously?

Nooooo you can't point bad trends in video games!!!

AI is shithouse and will be for a long time. I wouldn't trust it with a basic ass translation unless it's absolutely neutral and beginner level tourist guide stuff. It doesn't "learn" languages it just compiles a hierarchy of "most likely matches" based on completely random internet searches. If the AI finds some bullshit post on some random internet forum it will take it as a fact.

true. why are talking about silly video games. can we talk about something important, like the socioeconomic state of the world instead?

which is more likely?

In this case, the actual third option is the real answer. That being that you a a fucking retard who blindly believe ai slop.

The symbols ain't matching up

Are these two the same word:

retard

RETARD

Are you seriously saying that since が isn't there you think that guy is lying? が is a grammatical particle and can be exempted if it isn't necessary for the sentence.
A simple だれ? is used all the time when querying about someone's identity. が is included when you have specific information tied to your query.

誰がピザを食ったの?

"Who ate the pizza?"

The OP sentence can be used with が too but the だれ? just adds a pause.

why does Anon Babble keep believing this? I know you guys are stupid as fuck but do you really think they will just AI up the game and don't revise the text? SE and nintegoons still have a ethics department

Why does it matter what's used on an industry wide level?
With AI you can just play the original and translate it in realtime yourself, it's awkward but doable right now, I've messed about with it a bit on VNs myself. The tech is there, all it really needs is some kind of wrapper software and you could probably sell it as a product, I'm surprised it hasn't already been done.

I'm a pro tl trust me
it says "who the fuck touched my ass"

False flag poster.

Because you'll get something like

Okay, user wants me to translate this text. However, "butt" is too crass and I should strive to be respectful. "Touch me" sounds a bit too graphic too and can be pretty upsetting for some people. I should be as helpful as possible while making sure to be respectful.

Here's the translated text for you! "Hey, who bumped me?!"

Ai translate portuguese 99% accurately, sometimes better than i would. I think it only have problems with the fucked up languages like russian and japanese i'm assuming

MIZO TO O CHA

All datacenters hosting AI web applications should be bombed and all AI retards quartered and shown on public display.

Would it be incorrect to add an を between オシリ and さわった?

Imagine if people in the world of literature advocated censorship and changing the original texts... That's simply inconceivable.
You'll never see anyone who says they like literature say something like: "what's wrong with changing the lines of this Tolstoy character?", or "why don't you read erotica if the censorship of these lines bothers you?", etc.

This is proof that one of two things is happening:

communities about video games are infiltrated by people linked to corporations who have interests alien to those of consumers in mind

or

autists have become attached to brands like religion/relationship and will defend anything, even those that are harmful to their own interests

mario.png - 639x738, 459.79K

It wouldn't be incorrect.

male pedos BAD! >:(

little shota on pedo woman? heckin based xD have some updoods!

Yes and no. The line is already phrased in a fragmented way, so you'd need to fix that first.

だれ?アタシのオシリさわったの!

だれがアタシのオシリをさわったの!

If you started it with the だれ? fragment but then had the を in there at the same time it'd be weird because it goes from casual form to proper form in the same line. It's not wrong, but it's not natural sounding.

It's always jeets, man.

oh no no NO NO NO somebody DEFILED the japanese thing WHY IS THIS ALLOWED

You people are fucking pathetic lmao.

I know you guys are stupid as fuck but do you really think they will just AI up the game and don't revise the text?

Decent AI for translation will allow the authors of smaller games to translate their games directly, without depending on American companies where the Machiavellian activists are. This is already done, in fact, I've played several games that have clearly been translated from their original languages into English using Google or DeepL, but the result is pretty bad in my opinion.
But things are getting better. Google Translate made a huge leap in quality last year. I think Google has started to pass on the horrible translations that have been stagnating for almost a decade in these new LLMs and the end result is being fixed. Smaller game authors already have the tools to deliver relatively acceptable texts to consumers without them needing to be proficient in English.

You will never truly experience a work made in another language unless you experience it in said language.

People finding out that the translations for these games have always been cucked is pretty funny. Some say they are "kino" like anything Working Designs released.

when i was in japan 2 people gropped my butt, i'm a male btw, it's ok when japan rapes people.

The translation is less jarring. Like usual, braindead gooners cry when something mildly sexual is changed to fit the target language better. Of course when only form of media you consume is fantranslated doujins, you don't really have high standards.

if it doesnt matter than why make the change

The Metal Gear franchise is pretty emblematic of why translating Japanese is a futile effort if you want a "good translation", since it has had every kind of TL.

Traditional localization

MGS1, which happens to be the favourite for translations. Changes a lot of shit and misses a lot of characterization in doing so.

Old style game translation

MGS2, where the translator was completely cut off from the Japanese side and just had to feel their way through the work, which led to a borderline literal translation with several inconsistencies (such as Ocelot's line about the supernatural not existing- something that only exists in the English version).

Literal Translation

MGS3 and 4, where it's okay in 3 but 4 is a complete shitshow of lines that make no sense in English because of the literal TL (i.e., "Snake, if you don't want to be a slave to fate, then go, fulfill your destiny" or something like that, complete nonsense).

And none of them actually manage to capture Metal Gear in Japanese. Dubs and subs are a crutch for the lazy.

It was wrong then and it's wrong now

Because the "original" sounds like crap when translated directly to english, ripped out of its rythm and cultural context.

Are you a cute femboy? Because I'd grope your butt if you were.

gliticus.gif - 480x451, 3.78M

I look like that webm with the dude carrying a computer in campus skinny and plump.

The difference is that most literature that gets translated and has serious translation debates is viewed academically, whereas video games are toys where the words on the screen hold about as much value as the words on a restaurant menu. It's better if you can understand them, but they're completely pointless if there's a visual.

Is that a yes?

explain in 5 words how having sexual molestation in a kids game makes it a better product

Hm, the JP on the left seems pretty simple. Is OoT a good game to play in Japanese if you're trying to learn?

The left one says something more like

"Who-?!-touched my butt"

I'm pretty sure you've failed to actually read the post you responded to.

more like the conceited nature of women
which should be taught to everyone

That doesn't even make sense as an English sentence you dumb fucking esl

AI fags are just the lazy cunts who have never worked towards a single goal in their life.

Pottery

file.png - 756x574, 39.96K

my translation is 1000x times better than yours

wrong, both are exclamations of surprise at having your butt touched unexpectedly.
Not that you would know because you've probably never grabbed a girls butt before

>communities about video games are infiltrated by people linked to corporations who have interests alien to those of consumers in mind

or

>autists have become attached to brands like religion/relationship and will defend anything, even those that are harmful to their own interests

It's both my dude.

I reached the point of learning Japanese where my brain stops trying to translate it to English because most of it doesn't really make sense if you do that. It was honestly like having my third eye open. Actually game changing once it clicks that way.

Why do I have a feeling this is from an Apple conference?

Please be kind, the fat jokes would displease the fatmerican.

No it wouldn't.
t. American fatass

It's from a marketing research conference, but Apple dudes were most likely in the audience.

Really feeling the sunk-cost, huh? Unless you're literally moving to Japan, all that time learning the language is now worthless. Lazy plebs like me can just have AI do it, and to a standard better than the vast majority of learners will ever achieve.
Remember when teachers used to say "You won't always have a calculator in your pocket"?

And yet for many things you actually need a deep understanding of advanced math, not just a calculator.
You're a calculator-cuck for everything in your life. You'll never actually have any knowledge beyond eating shitting and consuming.

Gotta love how Islam somehow owns the concept of a crescent moon now.

I seriously don't understand why they don't use actual Japs for translations. They use western based companies, with westerner staff in Japan.
This is a goldmine for any Japanese that knows English. Get a team of actual Japs together, use AI to quickly go over it and then error correct.

You could have a strangle on all Japanese media to the outside world, you'd be making billions.

Parents should censor media targeted to their kids. Thats their duty as parents to raise their kids, ever read The Republic?
Trannies + women should not censor media targeted to straight men.
The two things are not really the same.

It's the moon and star and the Gerudo were clearly based on muslims and the Fire Temple had literaly muslim chanting in it. I think it's dumb they had to change it but denying the OoT has a weirdly large number of muslim influences is hard to do.

scariest thing about AI is the rise of npc automatons who don't know nothing about anything and the only solution they know is to ask the voice in their smartphone
so? DQ has the totally-not-catholic church in all (?) their games and nobody seems to mind
if muslims weren't such deranged subhumans they would find it cool that their religion inspired videogame devs

Gerudo have virtually zero "muslim" influence except they're desert dwellers. The chant thing was literally just sampled audio that sounded regionally appropriate and indiscernible to the people who chose it. If the moon + star was too close, they should have just removed the star, because islam cannot possibly own the symbol of a crescent moon, something people have looked up and seen since the dawn of time.

I'm not sure I've heard a single Japanese person speak English smoothly, even those that are fluent use a barely-comprehensible accent and there aren't a lot that even reach that level.

if muslims weren't such deranged subhumans they would find it cool that their religion inspired videogame devs

Yeah again I said I agree. I was responding to the guy that wants to pretend OoT doesn't have an influence from muslim art. He's still doing it here:

Bro, it's literally just a moon. Islam doesn't even do "art." What else could they even have taken?

There's no way to take you seriously. Start with google.

Next time just say "I don't know"

Most literature is treated exclusively as consumer products without much intellectual or academic value. Still, casual readers are not going to accept that the books of their favorite unpretentious authors are modified by committee, as I said, it's inconceivable.
With games, unfortunately consumer behavior seems to be the opposite. If you say, "hey, don't modify the text of my favorite game!", you'll see an army of apologists telling you to go watch porn or whatever.

whereas video games are toys where the words on the screen hold about as much value as the words on a restaurant menu

This view is totally obsolete from both a consumer and business point of view. No one with any knowledge of video games has seen them as toys since at least 1990. People are also aware of the importance of narrative, both consumers and developers, publishers, etc. This only makes this trend of people coming to video game discussion sites to advocate censorship all the more annoying.

trash.jpg - 1319x831, 249.07K

So I guess Morrowind is also cancelled now because it uses the Moon and Star symbol.

nooo my goiogle oversloards cant lie to MEEE their most tstusrtlfyy servant uuhhh uoure RetRAded and i Hate you AKLLK !!!

People like you always cry over these advancements.
I suppose math just stopped advancing once calculators and computers became common. It certainly didn't, for example, allow greater heights than ever before, while also simultaneously enabling every pleb to be 1000X better at it than they would have been otherwise.
Automatic translation means that people who are just interested in Japanese media don't need to learn the language. If you want to do it as a hobby, or as part of your dissertation on Japanese etymological evolution or whatever, more power to you, but that's not why most people learn a language.

pre gamergate: christians
post gamergate: liberals

so? DQ has the totally-not-catholic church in all (?) their games and nobody seems to mind

Anon, I...

I hate christcucks so fucking much.

Most literature is treated exclusively as consumer products without much intellectual or academic value

Which is why I stated:

most literature that gets translated and has serious translation debates

Still, casual readers are not going to accept that the books of their favorite unpretentious authors are modified by committee

Most people still reading books don't really give a shit about that, and the primary people reading translated books are inevitably reading Chinese works or Japanese light novels, which are typically frequented by those uncritical of translations.

his view is totally obsolete from both a consumer and business point of view.

It isn't. The majority of consumers only care about video game stories insofar as they have the obligatory "cool moments" that hype the viewer up and leave them feeling like they've experienced something 'real', but they don't actually give a shit about the translation.
By the by, a top sellers list on amazon means nothing as all of those books in that list are available for free via Kindle Unlimited.

retards 25 years late to DQ removing Christian symbols from their games

If you want to blame anything, it's probably best to blame the JoJo OVA controversy, which is likely while the Phantom Blood movie never got releases beyond the theatre debut.

It's actually amazing how many of you are so restarted you keep getting things from that post I never said. That's pretty fucking clearly the symbol used by Islam, as I said there is a ton of other contextual evidence with the game having influence from muslim/middle-eastern culture and art.
That does not mean I think it needed to be changed.
No it does not mean every other game with a moon and star are using the same inspiration (do you other examples also have muslim chanting in a BGM?).
No it does not mean it is reasonable or sensible OoT was targeted.
Yes, muslim are irrational retards that force the hands of companies in situations like this because they are unreasonable violent tards.

This all clear yet or are you still so retarded that I need to lay out what I'm saying in even simpler, more straight forward terms? If you were not saying "OoT has no middle-eastern/Islamic influences" there is no reason for you to respond to that post because that's what the post I made was in response to.

why didn't you bitch about it then?

Maybe because the internet wasn't widely accessible for the sharing of information and fewer people spoke japanese.

Ah, the BR found out the site's back up, fuck.
Well, at least he's still more retarded than a spacker kid.

How does this ruin OoT?

How? You jsut get AI poetry + ideological censorship

uhhhh why should I learn how do to double digit multiplication by hand, I just use my calculator

automatic translation is good for practical uses but I can't imagine wanting any media to be machine translated without actual translator at least editing it

They didn't censor it then, they only censor it now because christian hatred is so prevalent that people cannot stand the idea of seeing a cross.

It contorts the truth of reality. Women's voice must be heard.

26414.jpg - 1942x1086, 447.17K

Normafag snowflakes would seethe and cancel your ass.

Total Christcuck Extermination

burblefag.png - 1109x673, 68.77K

running the line through an LLM gets "who touched my ass".
hyperbole conjecture

Then you should be happy they are removing it. You should be pro censorship.

If he was happy, he wouldn't feel justified posting his edgy wojak he probably made.

They censored DQ back in the day by switching the word God to Goddess.

this and porn.

I don't get how having characters in a videogame worshiping a god other then their real life deity would please a religion or it's members.

nice try rabbi

07f02.jpg - 470x429, 174.97K

Modern censorship would be, "Quit being a toxic male and wait in line!"

Shit being gay in the 90s means I can be extra turbo elite gay now

retard MTLs Kami and gets God

doesn't even know how nuanced Kami is and just goes "woah they censored it!!"

When the "actual translators" are worse than the machine translation?
Why not?
I think a lot of people are simply unaware of how far translation has come recently, but even ignoring that, you're also forgetting the real key point. Machine translations aren't competing with theoretical perfect translations, they're competing with human translations. And human translations, especially of media like videogames, are almost always absolute shit even when they're not twisted towards some agenda.
That even applies to people who learn the language themselves. Some rare few get to high levels of fluency, sure, but the average person learning to get by reading Japanese media is not translating perfectly and would probably end up with more accurate results from a decent AI.

People complained about it back then too you dumb, underaged nigger. Where do you think the 'Eat your hamburgers apollo' meme even came from?

BR?

English is the international language and a significant proportion of people around the world are reading things translated from English into their native language. Contrary to what you've said, you won't find any readers saying that they don't care that the author's text they're reading has been modified. That makes no sense in the world of literature. It's the same as if you write a letter to someone, but the guy at the post office changes the content, and the recipient says: “oh, no problem, I don't mind”. It just doesn't happen. I doubt that any American reading a book originally in Japanese is really going to say they don't mind a bad translation if they're warned about it.

Note: it's also worth remembering that there are cases where Americans also modify gameplay in games, such as the famous case where Working Designs completely destroyed the balance of Alundra by changing the HP of practically all the enemies.

nyt bsellers.jpg - 1303x477, 176.44K

Yakuza 4 had a rape reference & fat shaming in the PS3 version, until SEGA hired a rostoid xe/her to do the translation for the remasters.

Who knows how much they changed because those changes were spotted in the opening chapter fucking wokies

Bets she fucks like a tiger

just don't hire troons and do proper interview with them so you know for sure they are on the same wavelenght as you
besides don't tell me there's no one in the team who knows english well enough so they can double check for any troonery in the translations

wrong, AI is shit at translating games
with the way translating games works its near impossible to provide it with necessary context to make the translation accurate
even then better models still struggle and will keep struggling with understanding this context
I had to clean up after shitty, obviously AI translations way too many times

People complained about it back then too you dumb, underaged nigger.

They didn't, as the most well received narrative focused games from Japan in the 90s were Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy VI, and Final Fantasy VII, all infamously mistranslated games.

Where do you think the 'Eat your hamburgers apollo' meme even came from?

It came from a webcomic that thought AA's insistence on having the translation say it was set in America was funny, which is completely different.
Capcom directly wants AA to have that kind of translation, which creates inconsistencies like that.

I do wonder at this point, people always bitch when a game gets censored, but would they bitch if it wasn't? If companies just want to avoid controversy they might be better off just leaving things alone at this point.

It's been a weird bell curve, localization in the 90's was bad because of technical limitations and meddling, then it got kind of better when technical limitations and meddling loosened up and then it got worse when localizers started going even harder on censorship in the past 10 years, we had a relatively short time period where it was getting better

file.jpg - 2139x1355, 155.15K

I know a lot of people here have as much connection to their chosen religion as they do to the cockroaches currently burrowing in their house, but most Western religious institutions do not like fictious works that invoke their religion.
Hell, the most famous example of this ended with Italy's most famous poet getting exiled.

NOOOOO YOU MUST HATE YOUR WHITE HERITAGE AND REPLACE IT WITH SELF-DESTRUCTIVE KIKEWORSHIP YOU STUPID FUCKING HEATH-ACK!!!!

coolest middleschooler, there he is!

That just doesn't make any sense to me. Especially when the timeframe we're talking about is an era where games are played almost exclusively by children.

well if you want to be pedantic about it, it would be more accurate to translate it as

who...?

They touched by butt!

this wouldn't be allowed in 2025

date.png - 882x635, 973.63K

These days the text is pozzed at the source. There is nothing to translate.

fucking BASED

Unless you're literally moving to Japan, all that time learning the language is now worthless

you're insane to think that book translations to and from there are useless and dont pay fucking grand sums if you know your shit. no, not some shitty video game translations, but actual professional material. give up on life already if your outlook on it is this narrow, like a fucking donkey strapped to a cart.

lmfao, it's worth it just to say "wow your tits are really fat" when talking to a japanese woman and watching them gush over it. kys

What game? Nice aesthetics.

You have good taste, it's front mission 3

The PS3 release on the west had the word rape kept "Akiyama says to Hana who wants to rape a fatass" in the very opening act, all in 2011 and besides once or twice people spoke about it on gamefaqs.

2011 of course things weren't the clusterfuck of faggotry and anti-male it is now

That's the whole thing, the bible is meant to be the stories you tell to children, and letting you turn something meant to be serious into literally a game just angers traditionalists and those actually involved in the religion (though they aren't typically "angry", more annoyed).
It's sort of like how you'd think Christians would love the religion being associated with the biggest holiday on the planet, but instead a lot of Church leaders hate how it makes the second most significant day of the religion out to be all about consumerism.

you must learn muh glorious nippon language

i dont give a fuck about "original artistic intent", I just want a fun game to distract me for a few hours

Then you shouldn't give a shit about the translation retard

I only care when it starts to not make sense
Do you even remember any lines of dialog from the last game you played?

remake japanese and english is censored

it can't fix this

They didn't,

Ok shut the fuck up, 14 year old nigger. It's clear you weren't around then and it's clear you don't remember how much people hated 4kidz doing stupid shit like this and how much every person with two eyes and a brain laughed at it because of how dogshit it made things look.

Not to mention how they outright cut entire episodes of extremely popular shows like Pokemon and YuGiOh everybody knew about it because they would retardedly advertise them until the very last minute in their catalogs and then cut them like what the did to the acapulco episode.

Not to mention all the "filler" they cut from One Piece that was actually not filler.
Brooke would have had no back story if they continued airing it.

based retard

Is there a website that notes all of this?

the 4Kids dub killed One Piece in the Anglosphere

Thank God.
