I don't know, but what I DO know is that Arcsys has DESTROYED SNK, SNK is a complete joke in modern day, and they really need to sell off their IPs/franchises/characters already. KOF 15 right now literally has less players than UNI. Their games since KOF 14 have been massively unappealing to the majority and mediocre. The only time their stuff is cared about and is popular in any capacity for the past decade is when someone else is using them, like Mai in SF6 right now. They need to stop making Fighting Games already and just license their stuff out to Capcom, Arcsys, etcetera. It's obvious they don't have and seemingly never will have the talent to succeed, and make these classic IPs have the recognition they should have.

I think tekken is shit in general but i also think the general gaming audience is too dumb and shitty at tekken to tell if the game is bad. T8 is a complete fucking failure of a fighting game, there's no reason to dishonestly post steamcharts of its numbers vs Strive which just got a new character release.

Seriously though, what the FUCK does SNK do now? COTW was basically their only real last chance to make any kind of splash in Fighting Games. It's 1v1, the easiest Fighting Game they've made yet, the best online they've had yet, the most an SNK product has ever been marketed, even have "modern" controls, and more. Yet it still failed to grow them at all, continuing the downward sales trend of their modern games. It did so bad that their CEO stepped down. Do they just go back to churning out budget KOF games and the occasional Samsho every 8 years until they eventually go bankrupt a 2nd time? Do they move on from Fighting Games entirely? The only way KOF 16 will be successful is if the franchise moves to 1v1 because no-one wants to play a 3v3 game unless it's MVC, or it's severely dumbed-down and a lot easier than KOF's ever been.

80% of the time when people talk about KOF, they say how they don't want to learn 3 characters and how it's hard to play/get into. And yes, how SNK's games look factors in too. But even then looks don't make them play it either because as much as KOF 13 is jerked off, 90% of the ones who fawn over it's visuals don't play it, and/or also talk about how difficult it is to get into.

I’ve only played Tekken. I’m used to every character having a move list of 100+ moves. It feels weird playing Street Fighter and Guilty Gear and having only a dozen moves to memorize if even that.

I can't help but chuckle when I see fighting game fans talk about how one game is bigger than the other as if they're not all completely irrelevant.

The reason I didn't care for CotW is because the roster looks like absolute ass, they're all boring as shit and it's nothing but dudes. So I skipped the game. Don't why they though FIFAfaggots would buy the game for Ronaldo, when Ronaldo is already in FIFA.

I've wanted to play kof 13 for years and was waiting patiently for rollback, then they shit it out with technical issues and charge for it so nobody buys it and it remains dead.

But in all seriousness, these entries both received a huge audience of newcomers, but Tekken 8 dropped the ball so hard that not even newfags like playing it anymore. Strive has always sucked politically correct tranny dick since Day 1, but over the years it still plays the same and it seems every other DLC character is a new face with a different playstyle. Meanwhile, Tekken's focus on hyperactive offense has outstayed its welcome, and it has a dogshit battle pass system on top of reselling legacy characters and clones as DLC. Yeah, 7 did this too, but at least 7 had new faces that experimented with the formula (Eliza, Kasumi) and exciting guests like Akuma and Geese. So far, 8 only has 3 new fighters in the base roster, Clive is the only (extremely cancerous) new guest, and every DLC fighter is a returning face from the previous entries. I bought 8 on launch and new it was going to have a short shelf life the moment they revealed Eddy as the game's first DLC.

Unfortunately their games are too similar to SF. Like they're just seen as SF but faster and with 4 buttons, which is why I prefer SNK, but also worse graphics and animation, less polish, and gameplay that's less streamlined. I don't even like SF6 but to an average person's perspective, that game is more intuitive to play and the machanics synergize more naturally because there's more abstraction behind them. Like instead of there being a block parry, rev guard, hyper defense, and guard cancel, SF6 abstracts the universal defensive option to a button parry stance that works for both high and low. Some defensive depth is sacrificed in the process, but it has a pareto principle kind of angle where it covers enough of the bases that people are fine with it. The same applies to one jump vs multiple, having a sprint, having an ex and DR for combo extension vs ex, ex cancels, feints and brakes, etc.

This may be the most nonsensical complaint of all time, but the thing I don’t like about CotW is how the animations and hit stun feels and looks like somebody cracking a leather belt. The animations are just so rigid and landing a hit feels unsatisfying. I can’t describe it any better, but there’s no sense of ‘give’ or fluidity to the interactions.

Animation is genuinely important with this genre since they need to visually convey everything happening in a match. I really don't get it as while they are ugly I actually think both KoF XIV and XV animated well, watching CotW it feels like a major step back despite obviously recycling models from XV and not even being a major upgrade in terms of graphics quality. Hate the screenshake effect during hitstun of a counterhit, just looks ametuer as fuck.

I only played the beta, but the amount of hitstop felt obscene to me. Like if you do Kain's close heavy punch it feels like half a second or something passes between the first and second part of the punch.
