The bulk of the game is pretty shallow. The random encounter system generating X wannabe rapist in the city's alleys, the canned dialogue. Sure you can later encounter your grown up children or take these NPCs home as your slaves and start a farm or whatever, but it doesn't change anything about them. The battle system is whatever, and the sex system is... I dunno, I feel like it's worse than in the era games even though they're both "build your preferred sex scene and then spam whatever action as many times as you want" even with the fetish system built on top of it. I don't remember much about any of the characters either, though I'm sure I didn't bother interacting with most of them beyond what I had to. Also development of this game is actually glacially slower than TiTS, which is already extremely slow and takes a few years to "fill out" a planet. I would say Lilith's Throne is the worst of the three, maybe not by a massive margin but I've never desired to go back to it once.

In the start menu you can edit most of what you want to see. Beyond that it just depends what you're comfortable with. Most NPCs are pretty upfront with what they're about.

CoCII has really bad gameplay, even compared to the first game, and all the fetishes have been replaced by NTR.

It was the first one to do it right and get popular, and have active, transparent development. There were a couple others at the time, Flexible Survival for example, and another one with a white UI that I can't remember the name of. They didn't catch the same popularity for one reason or another. The most obvious reasons being one could only be played through a text interpreter and the other was only hosted on FA.
Fenoxo caught lightning in a bottle. There won't be another CoC probably ever. Slablands tried and it just sucked.
It was a different time with different people and different expectations. Loads of these modern games are riffing off CoC in one way or another. Many are putting out 0.01 versions expecting to quit their jobs and getting burnt out without making anything meaningful. CoC didn't even have a name when it first released, it had like 5 enemies with a win/lose scene and no color UI. The profit motive has really hurt these games I think. Fenoxo built CoC for years, building up a fanbase before the patreon stuff took hold. By the time TiTS rolled around he had a whole team. Loads of barebones CoC-likes came out in the 2010s but they didn't get any attention simply because they didn't deserve it.
Don't think I'm sucking him off though, he simply wanted a game he'd like to jerk off to and made it, and that was the last good decision he ever made.

To add to this, CoC was the first to milk the version-to-version releases that we're used to seeing today. People hadn't caught on yet, but also actual content was coming out with every release so nobody had a reason to complain.

I don't think it's intended to play with any specific TF in mind; you're just supposed to fight, fuck, lose a lot, drink/eat whatever weird shit you happen to find, and enjoy the serendipity. Trying to micromanage your TFs will suck the fun right out of the game.
