Competitive TF2

Does Anon Babble know about competitive Team Fortress?
What are your honest thoughts? Have you tried it?

Ages ago I joined a team, 1v1d team leader as a sniper and left

competitive tf2 is trash kys uncle dane nigger

have you tried it

always been a joke scene
like competitive roblox

6v6 takes the piss out of classes and it just reverts back into quake. Valve trying to pander to it ruined the game. Fanfic meta

What's the point when the most fun weapons and classes are banned?

quake is an arena shooter based on individual skill and raw DM, TF2 is a team-based game, if anything you will find MORE teamplay in a comp match so idk why people keep repeating that dumb talking point
some overpowered or broken weapons are banned but all classes are allowed

Yeah I play comp, fucking 14 years ago when it was relevant.

6s is kino but it never had mainstream appeal and thus never took off.
highlander is cringe

It's a shit, sterile gamemode that destroyed TF2's balance in the long run

have you ever played it

My irl friends in high school were into competitive tf2. I never tried it but it seemed lame to play a casual game competitively

this is the truth.

WHAT IF WE TOOK A FUN CHILL CASUAL GAME AND METAFAGGED IT SO IT'S LIKE HECKIN ESPORTS

Competitive TF2 is tryhard dogshit and Meet Your Match killed TF2.

I don't play it but I do like practicing all the different movement tech they do in competitive. Became a way better DEMOKNIGHT just watching one comp player maximize his strafing and surfing opportunities.

But competitive existed since the very start in 2007 and Meet your Match was a 2016 update that let down the whole competitive community, why do people blame comp players for valve's mistakes?
based

there was no reason to follow comp TF2 anymore after everyone on mix^ retired.

Pretty much, I think my last posts on tftv were around 2015 or so, and I was mostly posting in random offtopic chatter by that point anyway. Cool scene at the time, don't regret the time I sunk into it or anything, but it was in such a sorry state by that point and it's just a husk now.

does the "relevancy" determine the fun you get out of a game

mix^

G6 would wipe the floor with them just like they did with froyotech

does the "relevancy" determine the fun you get out of a game

No but it does determine the pool of people I can play with and meet, which at this point is such a tiny and insulated circlejerk that I can't imagine spending even one minute playing it these days. Sometimes I get the itch for some mge and every server is just empty unless it's a few dudes sitting around in discord playing with each other.

Nigger

all teams are the same combination of 2 soldiers, 2 scouts, 1 demo and a medic

This dictated what class is viable and what not

on top of banning most weapons

I tried it like 10 years ago but found it pretty boring. People wouldn't even play us if we deviated from the meta at all.

i would rather play 12v12 chaos

This is like playing Smash competitively, why take a fun game and ruin it?

theres around 1k players in NA and another 1K in Europe, thats plenty imo
around 100 teams in RGL (USA) and another 100 in ETF2L (EU) plus all the people who play comp without a team on pugs

all teams are the same combination of 2 soldiers, 2 scouts, 1 demo and a medic

This dictated what class is viable and what not

turns out scout, soldier and demoman are good mobile attacker classes, and medic is just a must due to heals and ubercharge. Blame valve.
People run engie and heavy to defend last every time too, they just dont use those on situations they're not suited to

but people play comp for fun, why would anyone play a game without prize money if it wasn't fun? some people like balanced, challenging matches where the other players are actually trying

how does it take the piss out of classes? if anything 6v6 actually raises the baseline fun floor for most classes because you’re not running around the multiplayer equivalent of a public pool in summer.

theres around 1k players in NA and another 1K in Europe, thats plenty imo

That's really bad for a format where you need 12 players for a match. The number of players at the skill level of someone who's relatively new to the scene is probably less than a quarter of that, then narrow it down further by region for playable pings, then narrow it down even more based on overlapping availability (how many people still playing comp TF2 are grown-ass adults with full time jobs and kids? they probably don't have a lot of time to spend playing), and you're left with pugs where teams consist of the same couple dozen people or so. That isn't unplayable but it's not a healthy scene. And I know for sure that highlander is giga dead.

The number of players at the skill level of someone who's relatively new to the scene is probably less than a quarter of that

there've been new recruitment drives through newbie pugs in TF2 Coaching Central (North America) and European TF2 Newbie Pugs. The North American league RGL has created a "newcomer" division dedicated exclusively to new comp tf2 players with no previous comp history and its still pretty lively season after season, implying new players keep coming in

Please take an actual look at the RGL league table. This season, just like most in the recent past, the majority of the league is made up of new players in the Amateur and Newcomer division (~68 teams). Invite generations come and go and the game moves on.

6s is fun but repetitive after a while. Highlander is usually very boring for the classes like Soldier and Scout which I main. I also play a good deal of MGE.

there was a team that was full of actual pedo tranny groomers and they hid the fact for years

what was the name of the tranny camgirl who used to post on tftv
username was like "warmpaintedfences" or something

there was going to be a Beyond the Summit TF2 event but it was cancelled because the player organizing it was sexually harassing players or something

comp TF2 is cursed

I like it, I used to watch every competitive game back in 2011 when EG and Complexity had teams. I remember when Banny was the new hot Demoman. I got into Dota 2 after that, though, and then streaming became normalized and I guess I moved on to other stuff. I played a PUG once with a friend but I didn't enjoy it.

using the n-word outside of Anon Babble

trolling

bro that shit died 10 years ago, are you doing some archeology or something?

stopped playing comp after graduating from university and getting a job, but I still follow the scene, tbf if the job didn't drain my soul, I'd probably care about it more, some people I've known since way back then are still playing

Troonredditive

no thank you

QRDs?

it’s filled with trannies and pedos (NA)

What are your honest thoughts?

Boring to watch, boring to play.

Have you tried it?

Yes.

Comp Smash is fun so that's a terrible example.

Dashner, one of the main person behind production in TF2 LAN events, allegedly was manipulative and rapey with a woman called uberchain, and also some other woman. Nothing has been proved that i know off but theres those allegations
theres still thousands of players and some active leagues, its not at its peak but its still going, if anything the fact theres still hundreds of players in the major leagues after 18 years is a testament to the longevity of the scene

Team Fortress has always been a casual game, dating all the way back to QWTF.

No doubt its absolutely filled with tranny profile pictures in comp

yeah it just had casual clans, casual clan wars, casual competitions, casual competitive players, etc, and thats why competitive players from TFC and Quake flocked to TF2 as soon as it was in beta to do competitive clan wars and scrims (casually)

The developers literally stated their goal with the mod was to ease up the skill gap present in QW team modes so that pros and noobs could play together and the noobs still have a good time.

thats true, separating the quake weapons among different classes so that no class can do "everything" is a nice idea, but you still have a pretty high skill ceiling with classes like soldier, demoman, scout...
i wouldnt be sure on how to compare modern TF2 with Quake, i know the basics of quake duels like item control, but the way TF2 teamplay between the different classes and objectives work do bring some strategy and skill expression that isnt present in quake, even if you dont have the crazy bhops from quake or you cant carry 7 different types of weapons at once.
TF2 classes also have different purposes so its generally better to kill a demo or a medic than any other class, since demo can have such powerful control over areas and chokepoints, and medic has the ubercharge which the whole comp metagame revolves around.

In raw "deathmatch" skill Quake obviously has the upper hand over the Tf2 classes in skill expression, but it doesnt have this cohesive teamplay objective oriented thing that TF2 has and which can be so rewarding when you really click with your team and understand the game properly

Quake team modes are insanely popular, to the point 4on4 is the preferred mode in QW over 1on1. Teamplay strategy is present in QW and just as important if not moreso than TF2.

man, yeah i know quake has team modes, but its more like you happen to be on a team, like every man can do the same like in CSGO.
In TF2 the classes really have to cooperate and they balance each others flaws, like medic cant defend himself for shit but he has a pocket scout to protect bombers, and scouts cant really spam chokepoints but they have soldier and demoman for that task, and then soldier doesnt do as much damage at chokepoints as demoman but he has the mobility to make distraction plays or high bombs that relief pressure from your team during teamfights and are also able to chase key targets trying to flee-
they are complimentary to each other and this brings a really satisfying teamplay that you dont really find in non-class shooters like quake or *yawn* CS

It's cool. It's not for me. I enjoyed watching it like 10 years ago.

They ban like half the maps, all items, and pro play either requires you to break your hands or play like a total bitch dragging out matches depending on the game

but its more like you happen to be on a team,

You have never played a game of QW in your life.

ive had a few hundred hours playing Quake Live for fun, i know im not as good as the quakedads playing pugs all day in quakeworld or whatever but i probably know the basics of quake better than you know the meta of comp TF2
