Anyone else saddened by the lack of good anime based games?

To answer the op's title, licensed games are almost always a mixed bag because the game producers are hobbled by the need for strict adherence to the source material. Occasionally one ends up good despite this, but it's unusual.

There are plenty of good games with anime aesthetics or stories written in the style of classic manga, but they're mostly their own original works actually devised to take advantage of the medium of games and not written with the pacing and visual flare of manga/anime on mind.

Your best bet is anime fighting games because those have the least narrative baggage to try to weave into them, but most of those are cheap and disposable and the best ones are original IPs and not anime tie-ins.

What's weird is how reasonably close Berserk games stayed to the source material, when the ahneems threw it out the window.

No I just think my ideas don't really work in a gaming context because I'm talking about the times in dragonball where characters would go off and train for years to stall the plot and walk across interesting filler bullshit.
Grinding is not the same thing and neither is a game thats all killer no filler.

Main bleach story with your self insert.
Side mission hollow hunts as a way to hang out with all the other characters.
Every single character is romanceable, even the dead ones.
Harem option.
Gameplay akin to Nioh, you can spec into Kido mastery or swordplay, your zanpakto+shikai+bankai gimmicks vary depending on either a personality quiz a la 7th stand user or just from a list of choices.
Post game is Hell and that is how you unlock the dead character romances like Unohana.
Something like that.

I ended up not getting it because early Steam reviews were claiming bad performance. But also because I remembered that I'm old and fighting games that I'm only ever gonna play for the single player aren't exactly the best use of my time or money anymore. Still feel bad about it because it looks great and it seems they put a lot of effort into it.

No, I mean when Frieza destroyed planet Vegeta. Among the thousands of saiyans living there, none of them crashed out to the point they turned gold? It just seems a bit unbelievable to me when Goku can get beat up for a day or two, watch his best friend die and get the power-up. Did other Saiyans never watch a friend die and get mad? Maybe I'm just missing some context here.

It took a lot of power to achieve that. Vegeta was the most powerful Saiyan at the beginning of DBZ, and he was likely more powerful than anyone had been on Planet Vegeta before its destruction. He wasn't anywhere near that. Goku went through exponential power increases (180k when he flexed for Ginyu, without Kaio-ken amplifying it, then he got crippled AGAIN and recovered, likely putting him over a million without Kaio-ken). He was already well beyond what anyone on Planet Vegeta had even imagined (assuming you don't count Broly, which isn't canon)

This game idea sounds based as fuck and I don't even think bleach would suffer from trying this like naruto would.

The strongest saiyans on planet vegeta combined could not stop frieza from one shotting the planet, even with a super saiyan boost. And absolutely none of them had pure enough hearts to cause the initial transformation.
Goku was a good 25 times stronger than the strongest saiyan of the time and needed the 50 times multiplier on top of that.
