Nintendo NEEDS to kill it with first-party games because it's the only thing that it has over alternatives like the Steam Deck and there's no reason to consider it for AAA games as the other platforms will have better performance and graphical fidelity. Third-party exclusives are also largely a thing of the past (mainly timed exclusives these days) so, again, they need to make some amazing first-party games.

The whole "it needs online on first boot" is because the release Switch 2s don't come with a full 1.0 firmware.

After release, models produced at a later date will generally have the (as of that point) most recent firmware installed on them meaning the first online signup wouldn't be required anymore.

But it would specifically be unopened release day Switch 2s that would turn into bricks then. For other games it will depend on what firmware they will require to install. That said Nintendo keeps system update servers online even after shutting down the servers to the E-Shop (you can still do system updates on the Wii).

The reason why I bought the original switch back in 2018 was I was the Metriod games I was convinced would eventually come out, now that I've graduated and moved on with more important shit in my life, I just can't see myself being hyped by anything enough that I would pay 600€ to play a single game.

The console isn't an investment, the hardware is shit and even back then I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole to play anything but exclusives.

Now I just flat out refuse to play a game if it doesn't run at 60 fps and lets you use a keyboard and mouse, no exception.
