The metanarrative will be about player freedom, and how players are always poking at the walls of the game to see how far they can go stretch the boundaries, and how far they can go off script. All of the schizobosses are heavily themed around the concept of freedom, and the relationship between Kris and the player is also about this.
Considering how Gaster sort of exists beyond the bounds of the actual game, he represents what players are looking for when they try to break open the game.

I would strongly argue that Spamton is a big part of the normal route's story as well. That sequence is so heavily tied in with Kris' character arc, that if you do it before the endgame, it comes off as an outright catalyst for the ending.
I'd argue this is the case to a lesser extent with Jevil. Susie's development really hits after she gets a direct demonstration of what lies ahead for her if she continues isolating herself.
I guess that means it would be Ralsei's turn to get slapped in the face with some out of pocket real shit.

He tells us the future is in our hands when we continue after death, and that if we give up, the world falls to darkness, which could be seen as literal (The Roaring will now unfold without heroes to stop it) or metaphorical (the game is going to fall to darkness because it's going to be closed).
Sentimentality is clearly a value he recognizes, because he applauds the perseverance of the wait between Chapter 1 and 2, and states "DELTARUNE GLOWS BRIGHTLY FROM YOUR HOPE."
Whereas Chara can point out the negative side of sentimentality (i.e. the completionism stuff you brought up, which even includes doing Genocide a second time just to see what Chara says), Gaster is all about the positive side, and has seen the unending love for Undertale its players have put out, showing their commitment and sentimentality for the experience. And just as it allowed the barrier to break and monsters to go free without a violent outcome, it can genuinely save a world like Deltarune from the rigidity of its "only one ending".
By the time of the Steam page, that statement's reiteration has already lost certainty in itself. It's quite literally only through our hopes and dreams of defying that "one ending" for another "happiest outcome" that this is a possibility.

tenna (who is teased to die) dies, so the only loose end is gone
no confirmation if kris is the knight or just turned on the tv for no reason in chapter 1
