What is the point of VNs?

What is the point of VNs?

what's the point of Anon Babble? It's just twitter.

To be a visual novel

why are twitter screenshot threads still allowed? Do you niggers have nothing original to post?

Based and correct. VNs and Gacha are objectively the worst video game genres.

This is a nigger, isn't it.

books >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> video games > vns > television > theatre > manga > film

It's a visual novel. What did you expect? This is like getting mad at an e-book.

You forgetting MOBA's anon?

Those Japfags really should make proper dating sims again. Then again what's the point when they don't hire my VAifu again

Miserable people are not unhappy enough, so they further increase their level of unhappiness by doing their best to be ridiculed by others. VNs, gacha games, etc.

Making a story game with branching paths that's extremely low effort/cost.

To be fair, defining a game by its monetization system is the stupidest classification ever. Next to J/WRPG crap

A branching CYOA narrative accompanied with illustrations and music that would be impossible in print?
Most VNs are cheap trope filled animeshit with canned PNGs and the same renpy UI, but there are quality gems that only work as stories thanks to the electronic medium.

they're like children's pop up books but instead of being educational they provide "girlfriends"

This basically. It’s a very efficient way of doing the “choose your favorite girl” stories of eroge and romance vns. The utility is obvious when you see the struggles or compromises writers have to do when adapting this stuff for anime or manga and needing to do some combination of a “canon” route, harem end or some kind of weird mishmash. Occasionally you see an omnibus anime but that has its own issues. So are VNs better than books, movies, more interactive games? Generally no. But they’re very efficient for implementing the thing they’re most commonly trying to do. Now completely linear VNs I have much less patience for. And those seem more just inertia from consumers and developers used to the medium. Basically those are just a super inexpensive anime substitute since you’re pairing music and voice acting with the art and story.

Is Clannad any good? It's only $20

They are good ways for studios to get their story out there when lacking funds. A anime or game would be too expensive for a niche tale. A manga takes a skilled team and publishing deal. If your story is out there like a lot of VNs are, theyll never see the light of day.

Porn.

i'm addicted to clicking on the catalog but you're right, this board is fucking horrible and if you can don't ever return

cheap
accessible
multimedia
can be done by one guy
yes, sturgeon's law applies so what

The sounds, the music, that's the answer, it's a CYOA novel with music.

A manga takes a skilled team and publishing deal.

Huh? You only need 1 person and you can just publish it online.

go die or something

Complaining about a functional UI

when you absolutely run out of things to complain about. Kek.

Where's the complaint? It just looks unoriginal to use the default UI, the same way RPGmaker games all blend together unless you put in the effort to customise it to have a coherent feel

A VN is just a book you can play.

thought Anon Babble is finally dead for good

my friend just had to tell me it came back

I hate this place so much

VNs have music while books and manga don't.
If audio books had OSTs then VNs would be bodied.

You can choose the waifu you like, which makes it superior to romance anime, harem, etc.

vns are great because they're cheap to make so they can have great and experimental stories. Also, it's unique to be able to add music and visuals to a written narrative.

Some VNs work best as VNs.
Umineko for example really doesn't work in any other medium.

Since I started playing visual novels, I'm bored with romance anime. The vn are superior in every way.

Is this the VN thread?
How do I access Joshin Eishi Cryska II from Muv-Luv Alternative Chronicles Vol.2? I saw the bonus features stuff in the main menu but nothing for Cryska II

god I fucking love muvluv, it's so kino

I think this board was more fun during the first 3 days before attention starved contrarians finally realized that it's back.

Which makes your argument weird since the renpy issue you're talking about is pretty much limited to the west. Japan has a different UI and in some cases they've customized them to be surprisingly great. Kakenuke Seishun Sparking's for instance aside from a unique look has some extra features that are actually pretty damn useful.

Master volume control and mute(highlighted in pic related so you don't need to go into settings

Locking the UI or having it hide when the mouse isn't in the region

nice and compact

symbol based and off to the side so you don't accidentally click anything if your mouse is slightly too low

It's great.

I never get why some people get so autstically mad about VNs. You don't like them? Sure, whatever. Doesn't make them worthless.

Why? There's even a complete LN adaptation.

why is this anonymous forum always so concerned about who is on the other end of a post?
shouldn't you be discussing the ideas or something?

no music

Not the same. The manga is good too but it's nowhere near as good.
Higurashi was one of my favorite anime when I was much younger. Now I know just how incomplete it was compared to its VN adaptation.

tried LunaTranslator

for some reason it's stuck on the very first line it scanned despite fetching all the rest of the dialogues in the log

Damnit. I remember I had an easier time with another text hooker years ago

What did you do when this site was dead?

play video games

pic

source?

But they aren't unoriginal, they all have different theming/colour etc.

What you're mad about is that they all have similar features. Which is retarded. That's like complaining that everyone's main menu features save game, load game, exit to title screen etc. Renpy UI has features that you NEED for VNs.

It's such a retarded fucking complaint and the only possible reason you would make it is that you are desperately looking for something to criticize. That's what I believe.

they're like a devolved form of point and click adventure games

Goddamnit. Maybe I'll just try fast-forwarding then, maybe it's in the middle of the VN or something

Because a sound novel can use the music, backgrounds and characters work together to create a world that is the stage of a novel for the user to read. They laugh and cry and get angry. The user takes the point of view of the protagonist to experience the story.
