I can't, my laptop can't run it smoothly. What I did was see the earlier intro in an asmongold's playthrough and I have to admit that the intro, at least, it's very well-made, it introduces the characters, the setting, the mystery, at the same time that's very emotinally powerful. But most stories usually have good beginnings, the problem start in the middle and the ending, and I feel like most people are too seduced by the intro to see the possible flaws its middle/end might have.

People should actually be praising the game's decision NOT to include certain quality of life features, like the minimap. Instead they just put a bunch of recognizable landmarks and lights in areas that aren't too big, so you actually pay attention to the surroundings instead of just staring at a compass with objective markers. What a difference it makes in immersion, I don't even want it to be optional

If we're comparing to what's actually comparable, like genre fiction, I found E33 to be pretty damn good compared to the usual fantasy novel offerings. No Wolfe, Bujold or LeGuin, sure, and definitely not Tolkien or Peake, but maybe Robert Jackson Bennett or Robin Hobb tier.

Definitely some tiers above any television slop. Hollywood just can't do the genre justice, and the few times they can they still end up dropping the ball.

I'd say e33 is more closer to (good) YA lit than traditional fantasy, really. The game is gaining attention for its writing because the quality bar in the gaming media is just too low, desu. Compared to books, good TV shows, movies and comics, E33 writing is just decent. It's its soundtrack that elevates things above and beyond.

I personally thought bg3 had a phenomenal story, there wasn’t so many twists, but it was still extremely compelling. I feel like maybe e33 has a bit more emotional impact, but bg3 has a really feel good ending that e33 doesn’t have. Its a bit of a toss up between them, but aside from that, I can’t say I played any rpgs as good in recent memory. There’s some other action games that have good stories too, e33 is fantastic but its not the only game with a good story, certainly one of the best, however.

Theres NOTHING GOOD about it outside some of the stories from the other party members and their stories usually had nothing really to do with the main one except for a few things. None of BG3s twists were good altho there were barely any twists really

So they jumped him, tied him up and interrogated him. Renoir had to save him so killed them, Julie included. Simon fell for Clea and fought the Axon in Old Lumiere for her. Later on real Clea entered, saw their pairing and Painted over them. Painted Clea made Nevrons to block chroma returning to Aline and Simon was cast down into they Abyss.

Prequel DLC would be boring. No leveling, no lumina, no builds other than the three pictos.

Verso snaps and kills 'em all, rescuing his imouto and hoping Aline will be able to repaint Julie one day (which shows you how much he changes in the next 67 years when he goes from that to wanting the Canvas to end)

For some reason I cannot get anybody into this game. The one person I got to try it dropped it shortly after the scales.

Nothing of interest happens in the story in those sections (maybe the Verso scene with the masked axon being the exception).
It's also clear with the framing that they were also meant to be Lune and Sciel's big moments... But honestly they were such nothing moments. Lune and Sciel both feel like complete wastes of character by the end of the game.
If we're talking about dungeons; sure those dungeons were fine but the "monolith" dungeon felt like it lasted 2x as long as it should.

i concede that lobcorp and a lot of other games mentioned in this thread have more original ideas than e33, but the execution of those ideas is immature and aesthetically poor in comparison. A game like Last of Us 2 has a hackwork story with excellent presentation and execution. A game like, say, Nier: Automata, is rich with unique ideas and takes proper advantage of its medium, but is held back by embarrassing tropes and drivel for dialogue.

e33 is the best story in games that has been *presented skillfully*, and that matters more than it being the best story outright.

E33 is a typical story you see in anime, manga jrpgs/japanese games and VNs. Because it has le adult characters and no sexy animegirls, normalniggers and other subhumans are not peer pressured to dislike it. If anything they're supposed to like it just to dab on le weebs and le weeb cringe.

As a JRPGfag I would probably have preferred the CEO's vision. His vision was likely something like this:

I think this thread is showing me that story in games is just not worth the effort, all these story games getting mentioned are despite all the effort below even the B tier films and tv shows, not even close to the average good novel.

And to make these stories half-decent these games cut through a lot of game design depth and level design quality and player agency, just to allow a tiny bit decent storytelling.

Why waste 50-100 hour to play a decent story driven Jrpg or Rpg when you can get a much superior experience with watching something similar.
Take Xenogears for example, touted as the best story in any Jrpg ever and people compare it to NGE but everyone knows its game design is actual shit, its level design is borderline trash, its rpg mechanics and player agency are so shallow, yet its still unfinished and filled with lots of cutscenes and airs for at least 30-50 hours! its bloated with garbage content just to kill the pacing of the story

Instead of this you can go and watch NGE+EOE and you will have a much superior experience.

Look at League of Legends, they took a lot of liberties with Arcane to make it much better in story than it was in the game and a whole lot more artistic and bombastic.

Story in videogames is fine, but it shouldn't be the sole reason you play the game, and game shouldn't be designed around it, games like Bloodborne, BG3, Portal 2 and Outer Wilds are great examples of how to do story in games in their respective genres, they add the story in a way only videogames can do and in a way that allows player agency or creative storytelling through gameplay methods, thats neat, but when videogames become cutscenes simulator and dumb down every single game design aspect just to tell a story or to show a movie and the end result is still an inferior product to the goodies of other medium THATS when you know that this isn't worth it.

Personally, my most favorite vidya story ever is probably SeaBed but it's a yuri visual novel, which filters a lot of people.
However, it's not sexualized, there are no sex scenes or fan service, which is rather atypical for an anime product and the game as a result is a lot more serious and very low on anime tropes. The story is very mind fucky from the get go and the ending is touching. It's also about grief and escapism and the cruel choices we make just like E33. You can get it on Steam.

Dodge's window is literally 50% wider, you can fuck up your timing by a fair amount and still be safe. The idea is you dodge new attacks first, then switch to parrying once you're comfortable. Perfect dodge timing is the same as parrying.
