Tidus being a dream

Nothing will ever come close.

You posted it already.

STILL MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE HE WAS ABLE TO OVERPOWER SEPIROTH RANDOMLY

tard strength

Tifa’s giant honkers in the vicinity gave him a massive test boost.

Retard strength + running on the biggest adrenaline rush of his life + got the drop on Sephy earlier = won by pure unga-bunga
Simple as.

Test and adrenaline boost.
Seesaw physics don't care about your power level.

Ultimecia = Rinoa is better

it was all a dream/painting/alt universe

Who doesn't love that trope.. so deep.

Trauma induced self hatred causing his mental state to cope and heal by pretending he was the protagonist of the story = all in le head

Like saying the wellness cult in Hot Fuzz is just = Mean old white people bad.

Isn't it just that Sephiroth was such a massive autist, too busy worshipping his mom, and Cloud's power level was so pathetic he just didn't even register him?

I'm not talking about FF7.
I'm answering OPs question and talking my favorite twist where the whole game was a dream and nothing you did in it mattered.

the real "divine one" being the player, hence why the majority of the game is in the player's native language, Japanese, rather than "Panzer-ese" which is only during the intro and ending.

rebirth/remake is already going into, the meaning of true strength

Mean old white people bad.

But that's true, you fucking idiot.

What was the point of FF7's story? That if you have enough plot armor, you can save the world from itself?

He doesn't beat him 1v1, his will power is just that strong that he is able to grab the sword and throw Seph away like a bitch. Cloud was 100% going to die but he was saved and experimented on. Tifa chan was rescued before this and got away so she was saved from this fate. Strangely, Hojo is what saved Cloud and the reason why he got strong to begin with.

Zack was also literally days away from being a major player in FF7, possibly the main character, and reuniting with Aerith.

According to the Last Elixer vid I saw, this was a near last minute change, and they wanted to add a twist and some mystery, while bridging the second act. They created Zack almost out of nowhere, and had thought of perhaps making Cloud Seph's shadow - he was some magical jenova creature that was spawned when Seph died or something, and merely took on the appearance of the old Cloud.

Instead, Cloud was real, but he didn't become Soldier and wasn't pals with Seph. He was a failure, and embarrsaed by it.

Only troubling part is that you rack up like 250 kills against Shinra low ranked soldiers by the game's end, and Cloud doesn't bat an eye, when he once served their ranks. They're all presumably kids from the slums, and elsewhere looking for a nice job and honor like he was.

his will power is just that strong

Ja'Den.png - 488x600, 407.61K

Cloud gets a Mako bath and Jenova cells, but he's a wounded regular dude and it mentally breaks him. Zack is strong and is able to continue. On the journey Zack tells him his mission, goals, and what he wants to do, and Cloud can't piece himself together in his Jenova cell near coma. Tifa comes across him, and he snaps out of it. Oh yeah, I was in SOLDIER, and the mercenary plan Zack was babbling about becomes what he was gonna do. It all lines up.

Cloud was considered a failed experiment because he didn't take to the JENOVA cells well. Apparently he needed Tifa to keep him going. Those two have some weird ass relationship.

It does recontextualizes Tifa's life and actions as in the original story, Tifa is just out for revenge against Shinra for Nibelheim and Cloud is along for the ride. Now it has her being only interested in Cloud, and AVALANCE is just a means to an end. It makes it so that Cloud and Tifa's motivations are 100% to impress and take care of each other which I don't know is wierd or wholesome. Cloud didn't seem to care about the greater geo-politics of joining Shinra's elite goon squad.

pre-emptive materia

Cloud grabs the buster sword and slashes Seph, doing minimal damage. Seph then decapitates Jenova to carry a piece of her with him and makes off (presumably the northern crater?), when Cloud confronts him, he says "don't push your luck" as he was gonna let Cloud live, but decides to kill him. Cloud grabs the sword and chucks him into the lifestream. Cloud's mortally wounded and was gonna die but Hojo saves him and the Jenova cells and mako bath rejuvenate him but break his mind.

Weird as shit that as of the game's canon story, Cloud was in a tube like 1 week before the game starts. He sounds so confident and cocky at first.

stop saying a fucking dream that shit makes no sense. TIDUS IS A SUMMON

Cloud is actually pretty strong. The reason why he didn't get into Soldier was he was rushing the process iirc. Maybe that's the retcon reason. Also Limit Break or something.

Have one of the most well-written video game stories ever

Make the gameplay & visuals absolutely fucking terrible

for what purpose

Klonas 2D sprite having a meaning
Utter kino

Fuck man.

That's the most kino scene is all gaming.

Nothing has came remotely close to Cloud taking off his helmet and the FFVII theme starting to play in the background.

The Riddle of Steel

That's the point. Seph is a genetic superman, fused with the cells of an alien lifeform able to morph and infect others, designed to be the perfect Ubermench and biological weapon. But other than self-aggrandizement does he believe or fight for anything?

Cloud starts as someone who flunked out of SOLDIER recruitment, and had to settle with being a basic infantryman. But his willpower is JUST that strong that he was able to defeat Sephiroth. Then the rest of the game is his willpower and promise to Tifa being played out, where he overcomes Sephiroth yet again (after some setbacks).

lol @ Aerith. She was totally written as the main love interest, but late-game re-writes make Tifa front and center. Cloud's promise to Tifa at the well becomes THE focal point of literally the story. That childhood wish is literally why he defeats Sephiroth twice.

Childhood friend pussy is THAT strong.

i mean....it's not that much of a twist. dude was so shady it's not even funny.

Lol sorry zoomzoom, guess you should just leave and try playing some of these games if you’re so concerned

IMG_6440.jpg - 480x480, 29.48K

The idea that cloud is miming Zack and has intense chemistry with Aeris makes sense. She never met the “real cloud”. She probably wouldn’t be as into him.

childhood idol goes insane

burns his town

kills his mother

almost kills his best friend

stabs his childhood friend and love interest

Pure, unfiltered, anger-driven retard strength, even Sephiroth couldn't believe how Cloud pulled himself down before he threw him into the reactor.

That was Zack with the pre-emptive. Zack was the one with materia, and the Buster Sword, not Cloud. He would have been armed with standard issue Shinra soldier gear.

I think Cloud is below average strength with strong will power. It's the power up he gets from the mako bath and jenova cells that makes him the all around Magic-knight swordsman.

Where he learned his sword skills is anyone's guess though. Watching Zack? His limits imply a mastery of sword tech that would take years to master.

You shot me

Wait no you didn't shoot me

No wait you actually did shot me

Was unintentionally hilarious

tifa chan

Kys you fat gay retard

The real twist is realizing what a massive fucking autist Tifa actually is

really I swear I remember reading that Cloud was actually pretty strong. it's just his self esteem was terrible and he doubted himself too much especially after failing Tifa.

Cloud fakes it until he makes it. He initially is confusing himself for Zack because 5 years of tank life shattered his sense of self. But he literally spends the entire game being a leader-hero anyways. He becomes someone who is canonically stronger than SOLDIER 1st class (you can fight them in-game and see their stats), and might as well have been.

I liked the Fei Fong Wong reveal in Xenogears. Game is due for a remaster if they keep it turn-based. One of the best JRPGs ever. Best story for sure, but not quite my favorite JRPG.

That's all from Crisis Core. In the original he just didn't make the cut for SOLDIER, he was just some guy from a village.

Playing MGS1 for the first time

Think I've been totally spoiled on it

This happens

Bravo Koji man

ncc.png - 1009x757, 373.48K

This nigga doesn't know about der Wille zur Macht

>kills his mother

Saddest part is that in the Nibelheim flashback, Cloud spazzes out if you try to visit and talk to his mom, saying he can't remember what happened. It's because he never interacted with her and thus never got to see her before she died.

We have 25 years of extended lore and re-writes. I never even played Crisis Core. FF7 original plainly says that Cloud couldn't make it in SOLDIER. Flashbacks have him as some wimpy socially isolated autist kid looking at Tifa and her friends from afar.

have him as some wimpy socially isolated autist kid looking at Tifa and her friends from afar.

He's just like me fr fr (unironically, which is why I relate so much)

Willpower is cool

Original FFVII didn't have people being superheroes in the cutscenes, SOLDIER 1st Class still get threatned with guns and stuff. Sephiroth got backstabbed, people no matter how skilled aren't made of steel.

spiral energy

Yeah, I'm curious if it's an intentional influence from Will to Power, or a coincidence. Conan the Barbarian 1982 was a fairly popular omvie, and you can see it influencing Berserk. Berserk, in turn, influenced FF7 in some areas (Cloud's giant sword and his enemy being a bishonen curved sword guy).

Thus there's two popular pieces of media which could have transmitted the concept to the FF7 team, specifically Nojima who wrote this reveal.

I thought he was overdosing on mako, which gave him the retard strength. Another poster was accurate in saying that Cloud would have died shortly after if not for Hojo finding and experimenting on him. This also ties into Cloud's insanity and thinking he was Zack. Cloud was catatonic and insane because the OD on mako also gave him a fucked up dependency on it that probably fried his brain.

It's because he never interacted with her and thus never got to see her before she died.

No, I'm pretty sure he visited her, that's one of the parts he vividly remembers, at least before Sephiroth burned the entire town down.

FF7 has a wonky relationship with gameplay and storylines. Zack is killed by being shot by guns, but first battle is Cloud taking like 16 damage from those same guns and shrugging it off. Its unclear if these numbers are just pure gameplay or if they mean anything. ie doing 1000 points of damage, is equivalent to x amount of kinetic energy?

Pretty sure sephiroth was flying around like superman in the original.

10 levels after he's shot and takes 16 damage, he's held at gun point and surrenders. You have to just ignore game mechanics. If a gun is used, it's threatening. Sephiroth and Cloud can die to bullets.

Every game ever made has dissonance between gameplay and custcenes. If a character needs to die for story reasons getting shot in the face is a perfectly good excuse.

Consider anything that happens during battles as in-gameplay. Games like Crisis Core tried to make Zack's last stand more heroic by having him fighting an entire army, but I think it's way more fitting and tragic how he met his end by just being gunned down by regular grunts. No amount of mako was going to turn him bulletproof.

He wasn't. He never left his body's resting spot in the lifestream for the entire game.

But ANY suburban inner circle association without a public community outlet is that evil and amoral, they just aren't in a bumfuck nowhere area with a hyper lazy police district and no state/county police escalation where wanton murder can be covered up as just "damn bad accident ey, lmao"

I still don't know what's worse people acting like spoilers ruin an entire game or people crying spoilers about something they never intended to play in the first place

All he did was throw Sephiroth. That's it. Sephiroth died because of what he was specifically thrown into. It's a completely reasonable win. It's also kind of the point that Sephiroth goes out of his way to make Cloud feel inferior for the whole game only for it be revealed that Cloud already beat him in perhaps the most embarrassing fashion you could believably conceive of.

That was Jenova.

Want to get really messed up? The track “Anxious Heart” is largely inspired by Laura Palmer’s theme from Twin Peaks.

We have 25 years of extended lore and re-writes. I never even played Crisis Core. FF7 original plainly says that Cloud couldn't make it in SOLDIER. Flashbacks have him as some wimpy socially isolated autist kid looking at Tifa and her friends from afar.

True, but he still helped her on mount nibel even as a kid, he wasnt incompetent

Sephiroth probably doesn't weigh that much

I thought he was overdosing on mako, which gave him the retard strength.

That's later. Cloud is just Cloud when he confronts Seph and is the last man standing, with Tifa and Zack wounded and KO'd. The Shinra mansion actually has reports that most people miss, saying two subjects escaped, and one was having a bad reaction to JENOVA cells. Most players either don't read it or skip right by it, but it's Zack and Cloud.

I rechecked, and yes he met his mom but it plays that "memory error" sound repeatedly and jumps around indicating something is wrong. Cloud edited out the parts when he explained he didn't make it to SOLDIER, and other things.

Her dialogue bothering him about girls is the most real thing I've ever read

Oh and Seph doesn't even die per se, he's just in stasis and after 5 years his body starts to crystalize into materia itself.

Original canon is that Jenova's body reacts and awakens to Cloud and morphs into Seph's body and starts the journey to the Northern crater. Jenova's long dead and Seph takes over the whole operation, controlling all the cells and calling them to him.

I don't know if it's confirmed, but Jenova Rebirth, the one that has a different model that you meet at the Northern crater is I think the original Jenova body that's reformed.

Oh shit, I never saw Twin peaks.

I can see how Uemetsu pumped out so many bangers: he was remixing existing songs from different sources.

be named Cloudia

names her son Cloud

bit of an ego maniac wasn't she

Persona 4’s is pretty good

You should get an older girl who can take care of you.

That's Aerith. Aerith was the more mature older gal who could lead Cloud around. Tifa is the childhood friend and same age. Tifa and Cloud are virgin dorks and Aerith is the non-virgin more experienced gal that took Zack's SOLDIER 1st class dick.

He didn't get into SOLDIER because he failed the mental portion. Physically he was fine.

when I respond to posts about Tifa, Aerith, Cloud, Zack, i write like I'm talking about old friends from high school. I think I replayed the Midgar section of FF7 endless times.

I didn't have much money growing up so I just replayed my old games every weekend. FF7, RE1,RE2, RE3, SH1, Sh2, got so much replay out of me I think I memorized those games.

He didn't get into SOLDIER because he failed the mental portion. Physically he was fine.

{{citation needed}}

Original FF7 says he flunked out but doesn't give any more detail. Is this Crisis Core or some shit?

I'm pretty sure FF7 explains it either when Tifa was digging through Cloud's memories, or right after. Everyone who gets recruited by Shinra gets injected with Mako, but only the ones mentally strong enough get to ascend to SOLDIER. Cloud was an accomplished swordsman but his mind couldn't really adapt to the Mako side-effects, so he remained a grunt.

No, let me correct myself now that I'm thinking about. It's not only Mako, but all Shinra grunts also get injected with JENOVA cells.

I'm pretty sure FF7 explains it

It doesn't. The whole deal of him being physyically fit but incapable mentally is Crisis Core.

Mako bathes aren't given to grunts, it's part of the SOLDIER process. Mako bathes are implied to be a process to make you magic attuned like a cetra, just far inferior. Shinra grunts are given little smg that can also shoot gas, while SOLDIER is an attempt at making knights who can hit hard and cast magic spells with materia. Everyone knows Cloud is telling the truth when he says he was in SOLDIER because he has those bright green Mako eyes. Even though it's not true, but he was given the bath by Hojo.

plot hole: does Hojo not recognizing Cloud mean anything? It's very obvious the Zack twist is a late re-write and it does change a bunch. I fully suspect Hojo when they started out was to just be a mad scientist side character, not the most important person in the entire narrative who set everything in motion. His scenes in Costa del Sol imply he might just be wonky and possibly could be reformed into an eccentric side character not literally Mr. Hitler he turns out to be in the story.

You all better have either hugged your mother or given her a call today.

You only get one mother, and she won't be around forever.

Also, MAKO infusion is for SOLDIER. It's directly said in FFVII that SOLDIERs are all infused with MAKO, not all grunts. That's why SOLDIER members have the eye glow, not everyone that works at Shinra.

Cloud was underdeveloped when they escaped potentially

does Hojo not recognizing Cloud mean anything?

Probably means that while the experiments Cloud went through were an once-in-a-lifetime event for Cloud, that traumatized and scarred him for life, for Hojo it was tuesday.

I could swear it is explained in the OG, and I'm sure of it because I had never played or watched anything related to FF7, outside of Aerith's death, before playing the OG version, which is from where I got that knowledge that Shinra grunts get injected with JENOVA cells in efforts of creating SOLDIERs that could follow Sephiroth's steps in terms of raw power. Correct me if I'm wrong, it has been a few years since I played the game.

My mother is dead but my girlfriend’s mother is really super nice to me.

I can see how Uemetsu pumped out so many bangers: he was remixing existing songs from different sources.

Now you know the secret of making media by researching the source.

The OG dialogue is this, after the reveal in the Lifestream

Cloud:

I never was in SOLDIER.

I made up the stories about what happened to me five years ago, about being in SOLDIER.

I left my village looking for glory, but never made it in to SOLDIER......

I was so ashamed of being so weak; then I heard this story from my friend Zack...

And I created an illusion of myself made up of what I had seen in my life......

And I continued to play the charade as if it were true.

There's no physical or mental shit, it's just he wasn't the bigshot he wanted to be. He was just a kid from a backwater shithole who wanted to look superior to his peers and score the girl he was too autistic to pursue.
Then he continues:

I'm physically built like someone in SOLDIER.

Hojo's plan to clone Sephiroth wasn't that difficult.

It was just the same procedure they use when creating members of SOLDIER.

You see, someone in SOLDIER isn't simply exposed to Mako energy.

Their bodies are actually injected with Jenova cells......

For better or worse, only the strong can enter SOLDIER.

It has nothing to do with the Jenova Reunion.

But weak people...... like me, get lost in the whole thing.

The combination of Jenova cells, Sephiroth's strong will, and my own weakness are what created me.

Everyone knew that. I'm...... Cloud.

It repeats a couple of times he's weak, does not make a distinction between mental and physical, and mentions how SOLDIER is treated with JENOVA cells+Mako bath. But no grunt is ever described as being mako bathed.

Shinra tiers:

1. Grunts - Regular guys with a uniform and a smg.
2. Cyborgs - guys with cybernetic enhancements and suits.
3. Robots - Sweeper models and others.
4. SOLDIER - 3 tiers of magic knights armed with giant swords. Meant to be the elite soldiers, and given a Mako bathe to infuse them with lifestream energy. Note they use materia when other Shinra units do not.
6. Beastmen - Mako reactors are also monstermen factories, and Shinra uses them as soldiers such as fighting Fort Condor. A bunch escape and roam around the world map and have to be fought as they terrorize people.

7. Sephiroth Test Subjects - These are various members including some SOLDIERS and grunts that Hojo haphazardly injected JENOVA cells into in an attempt to recreate the Sephiroth Super soldier.

Seph copies are not formally part of their military, and there's no standardization, it was just whomever Hojo could get his hands on - including Zack and Cloud.

ff7-grunt[1].jpg - 750x900, 81.69K

girlfriend who got "killed and eaten" by killer robots in the first half an hour of the game is revealed 50 hours later to have actually been harvested, had her organs removed and mechanized into an amnesic cyborg human battery for a giant mecha

virgin rage from his oneitis getting cut down plus beta rage from not making it as a SOLDIER while being reminded of his failure in his homecoming plus retard rage from being mentally weak who couldn't make it into SOLDIER

the rage levels multiplied with each other and made him go Super Saiyan essentially

The first time travel and how the eggs work. in Sekimeiya were AMAZING plot twists.
They live in my head a few years later.

file.png - 2557x1438, 3.57M

Yeah, and it's never directly stated, but mako baths seem to be an artificial way to make a Cetra who naturally was magically attuned, only weaker. Your average grunt wouldn't know what to do with materia and casting spells would be worthless if they could. You need a mako bath to make someone magically attuned enough to be worth a damn.

I still think it's odd that SOLDIER guys are treated as random enemy fodder, when they could have made decent mini-bosses at various spots. You could roll the dice and literally never fight one.

ff7-soldier.jpg - 800x1000, 65.17K

I'm physically built like someone in SOLDIER.

The combination of Jenova cells, Sephiroth's strong will, and my own weakness are what created me.

These lines sound like he says he's mentally weak to me

The lines say he was weak, no distinction, and thus didn't make into SOLDIER

Physically built like someone in SOLDIER

He's physically built like someone in SOLDIER -after- he undergone the Jenova cell therapy in Nibelheim's mansion treatment.

Baten Kaitos had a great twist midway through as well.

I like the little detail that their SMGs have liquid to spray gas that gives various status effects.

In a playthrough of FF7, possibly my first, I did the Wutai sidequest immediately and was hit with these two Shinra guards who were higher level than me. They hit my team with sleep, and then actually KO'd my team.

wow... just wow
well thank you for spoiling FF7 just like that...
ASSH*LE

Kratos (no not that one) being an angel in the employ of god (evil). Not even kidding back then I thought that was some good shit.

The reason why the player has to be the Divine Visitor is because the world of Panzer Dragoon is a closed system where Sestren has control over all causality. All the visions are Sestren's predictions and they all come to pass.

Yeah well

How people cope with loss.

Cloud foils Sephiroth because Sephiroth loses his self as an elite 1st Soldier/humanity and copes by convincing himself he's a Cetra. Cloud never makes his dream, loses his village, gets fucked by Hojo and copes by larping as Zack.

Cloud eventually gets over his trauma and accepts himself for what he is, Sephiroth never does.

people not realizing that FF7's plot is about how Sephiroth couldn't cope with being the chosen one and losing to some schmuck failure dropout

This one was atleast foreshadowed pretty hard when you went to Seymour's place, same for Auron being dead

Summons are dreams numbnuts, it's how Fayths work.

I don't remember your webm. Is it about the MC?

The story was written, expanded, and re-written a few times so it comes off as a bit awkward, such as Seph's origins. He was initially meant to be a Cetra, and then Aerith's brother (it's why they have the same hair). Instead, in the final game Seph believes he's a Cetra, he was created and Jenova is his mom, and he's initially wrong on the Cetra part. He sometime figures out the real truth, and just adopts Jenova's mission and sees it that he should rule over the world as the superior being, then suck out the lifeforce of Gaia then fly off into space to suck up more. So he basically just becomes Jenova with megalomania.

I mean that's an element of it. It's amusing that Seph didn't recognize Cloud on the boat, simply because this is the first time he saw Cloud out of uniform. Then he takes a second and remembers him.

its such a weird fucking term. he's a SUMMON DAMN IT I GET IT "he's the dream of the fayth" but HES A SUMMON OKAY ITS JUST THE EASIEST TERM TO SAY

my guy that's fucking Umineko!!!

He just wanted to hang out with Neku and guys at the end, but he had a role to fulfill

I felt bad for him :(

The webm involves a similar twist in a visual novel called ever17.

What's depressing is it's implied that Edge dies after fulfilling his purpose. Poor Azel can't catch a break.

Trish I love you, please forgive me.

Sorry guys, I never played it. I thought it was a cutscene from BK I might've skipped.

Incorrect, because then explain how Barret, Tifa, and an animatronic puppet can use Materia if they were never given Mako baths to make them bootleg Cetra?

Why did Cloud not make SOLDIER? Is there a definitive answer for this from the game that I missed somewhere? All I got was Cloud wanted to be a super duper cool soldier and bragged about it to Tifa, but only made grunt and that's pretty sad and relatable. and then just turned into a schizo after being experimented on.

You mean mentally a vegetable when they escaped, hence why for Hojo he considered both him and Zack failures that he stopped caring about once he knew they were terminated.

your mom

Cloud uses the Buster Sword to stab Sephiroth nippeblaster

get to this part in the OG

breakdown crying because that's what my mom said all the time before she died

Well, he was dead at the beginning of the game but yeah throw the guy a fucking bone at least

They're just special, or elite people, not the average. The average person is apparently quite weak. You only see individuals like The Turks or Cloud's team being top tier like that.

Soem of this is just gameplay: if they were to be very strict about this, Cid, Barret, Tifa, and others would have shit magic stats. They wanted eveyrone to be a magic-fighter hybrid because it's eiaiser to setup and it's cooler.

It's okay. I understand that my post would be confusing in the method that it was presented.

The story was written, expanded, and re-written a few times

proofs?

For such a famous game it's interesting how the actual twist of FF7 isn't really common knowledge compared to how Aerith's death is universally known

Her death was a meme on damn near any forum you went too

You don't call bahamut or ramuh a dream, do you? No, you call them summons.

million different dieas about what Jenova or Sephiroth was during development. Early idea was Jenova was just unleashing your potential of your mind and Ancients were already pre-built like that. Seph went through multiple itinerations of who the hell he was. Cetra, brother of Aerith? Lover of Aerith?

The entire segment with Zack is introduced only a few months before they went Gold, meaning this twist in the OP is one of the last things actually written.

Aerith's death seems more impactful when you're starting since a main character dying is something that you should know and would care about beforehand. "Cloud wasn't in SOLDIER" doesn't mean anything to outsiders, since you need to know the context of what Soldier actually is. Or "Cloud's memories of Nibelheim aren't true" for the same reasons.

You're going to have to tell me because I fucked up and played the remaster.
Does it mean everything 2D is the dream world?

I think the point is more that it's trying to force Cetra levels of magic knowledge on their fighters, high-risk high-reward tactic, hence why so many wash out and never make it past 2nd class.

All summons are dreams because of how Fayths are required. Just accept that it still fucking works, sorta like you can spoil Metaphor by saying You're a fucking tulpa of the Prince.

I just got done crying to this scene because I hadn't seen it in awhile.

Cloud says "Let's not do this anymore" at the end of the flashback

Emulation or steam version?

please explain

Materia is a common thing. It's sold in stores for common people to use. Sure, there's rare and more powerful materia, but it doesn't take being special to use materia.

Steam version has some great mods.
idk if they ever fixed the flashback's music.

Does it really need a definitive explanation? He was just some guy and not everyone is going to make the grade.

They don't give details, Cloud just washed out and didn't make it.

Newer 60fps fan mod makes the PC version more tolerable. They still haven't fixed shading and shadows in battle though.

Even still, 1st classes seem pretty basic magic users, and Cetra have a much deeper connection to the lifestream and can feel the voices of the planet. Mako infusion baths seem like a cheap artificial thing that is only a fraction of the power.

I can't remember if humans are off-shoots from Cetra that weren't as magic aligned, or if they're a separate species that colonized the world later.

I'm wondering since I've seen a bunch of different reasons, from poor mental fortitude, poor physical abilities, etc and was wondering if there was something given by the game
thanks

He is literally labeled as a dream of the fayth, son.

the simple answer is because it was kino

No idiot
Klonoa is a 2D sprite
The rest of the world is polygonal

yeah, but you can never buy anything but basic spell materia from most stores. The powerful shit is hidden away in ancient caves and dungeons. Some people can cast a fire spell or two, but the average person is apparnetly very weak with very low stats so it never means a damn thing.

It's drawing and expanding on things in FF6 and FF7. FF6 had regular grunts and a special program to create magic-knights since magic was rare.

FF8 just made the regular galbadian soldiers effectively SOLDIERS since they can cast magic spells.

Shame FF7's Cloud revelation gets overlooked by love triangle and Sephiroth best boss debates.

Cloud is actually pretty strong

He is not. Thats the entire point of his character. He is weak willed which is why Sephiroth is able to manipulate him. He was given power through an experiment. He never earned it.

It's much easier to spoil people by posting "X character dies!" than it is to say "X character is a delusional wreck who lied to everyone about being a super soldier and self-inserted himself as his super soldier buddy".

Cloud had a lot of insecurities but he's able to overcome then through will to power because of his connection to Tifa. Then Seph controls him because of Cloud's jenova cells, falls into an even deeper downward spiral, and Tifa is able to bring him back ou of it again. Tifa's pussy is like a powerup for him.

God damn, it's nuts how Square today has fallen, when they gave us KINO shit like this.

Also, Cloud was in his own head, he didn't have the mental for SOLDIER but he was probably good enough for the Physical.

It's a power up to me too.

If it made sense, sure. Too bad not even the writing team knew about this twist.

He flunked the psychological/mental fortitude exam, and Shinra flagged him as likely not being able to endure the mako treatment that SOLDIERs undergo. That's also why he's mindbroken after Hojo's experiments, while Zack is still full of pep.
Then he manages to pull himself up by the bootstraps by LARPing as Zack and focusing his thoughts on Tifa.

We have purposefully trained him wrong, as a joke

meeting Tifa snapped him out of it funny enough. Without it, he'd be some mind broken Seph clone type wandering around, probably muttering about "Reuinion".

he sees Tifa, then goes "oh Tifa. My promise to her. I gotta be a tough guy Soldier 1st class for her. Zack was telling how we should be mercs, so I'mma go do that."

So did he flunk the psych portion or was it not said?

NTR

Jade Empire was the best. Just the best.

It's never said explicitly, Cloud just says he's weak, with the implication being that he meant mentally. All SOLDIERs get Jenova cells, and if they weren't strong enough they'd become like the rest of Hojo's experiments

Because the only thing people ever spoiled about this game was Aerith dying, I never knew any of the other spoilers, so when I played the game for the first time last year, I was actually surprised by this, as well as the identity of Sephiroth's father.
