So whats wrong with Pillars of Eternity games? They look awesome.
So whats wrong with Pillars of Eternity games? They look awesome
turn based games are garbage
Nothing?
People have some criticisms - some valid, some stupid -, but they are still overall good games.
Just avoid the NPCs with gold names and you are good to go.
Troons who crowdfunded the game and self-inserted their poorly-written larp ruined it for me.
just don’t click on them bro
Too late. Not going to spend another 20-30 hours on a fresh start.
First game is ok, kinda. You can give it a shot. Second game is aimed at very specific demo...
its real time tho
too much text, too many lore dumps
shit shallow gameplay + WORDS WORDS WORDS
Go back to counter-strike, Ivan.
Homogenous slop with no likable characters in a setting too grim and dark even for rpgcodex.
Incredibly unfun game.
Graphomania
They have too many paragraphs to read
they're decent
though I recall the first one being kinda sluggish - a lot of combat and a lot of text with little actual meaning and progression
no likable characters
Yeah this part is true. I ended up replacing them all with silent mooks and enjoyed the game far more after.
It's just mid
setting too grim and dark
It's fucking bland, what are you talking about?
Second game is aimed at very specific demo...
Crazy how true this is. Why do "those" people intentionally ruin everything? Games, TV, Movies, they've even infested D&D.
with no likable characters
We can argue about a lot of these characters, but if you don't like Eder or Durance, then there is no hope for you.
It was marketed as a spiritual successor to BG but it feels like it was made by people that never played it, Sawyer really should have tried at making a spiritual successor to IWD instead
theres a mod which removes backers NPC
Just compare it to BG3 for 30sec and you will realize why Pillars games are not talked abut
BG3
its inferior to BG2
PoE1 was my first CRPG. I found it so boring that I didn't touch a CRPG for years after it.
the isometric map art was one of the strong points of POE.
it was just quite dull to play. and the story needed editing passes which Obsidian skipped due to financial situation.
Nothing, they are pretty good games.
Brainlet filter
not playing your degenerate gay sex simulator, sven
First one was really good. It really felt like a modern infinity engine game. The story and characters are good too despite the WORDS. I didn't like deadfire.
They suck, because they don't have any romances.
And pillars are inferior to everything
PoE1 was essentially BG2 and IWD with better quality of life, which is fine, but boring
PoE2 was solid and interesting, but held back by its reliance on the first game and by jarring performance issues
Is one of the most based party members you can ever have in you're path
PoE1
Horrible nu-RPG pseudo-system conjured by the SF AIDS* addled mind of Josh Baseder. The setting and atmosphere are terrific though—dark, sombre, serious
*A more virulent form of AIDS exclsuive to the Bay Area
PoE2
Putrescent woke excreta designed for consumption by "The Critical Role Crowd." Bad. Very bad.
THE WHORE GODDESS.
Hes a boring and non-interactive lunatic whos whole motivation can be summarized as objective: survive.
This is the best the game has to offer.
PoE2 was alright. The writers were tipping their fedoras slightly less and the quest text was less cancerous.
He's a slop character with minimal depth, meant to impress zoomers. Kana had unironically more depth to him and that's a very low barbto set
Pretty sure Avellone actually wrote more for him but Sawyer thought it was absurdly long so had to cut it, IIRC Sawyer called it novel length or something similar
Everything is inferior to BG2 so that's not much of an argument.
high tier, especially the class design and combat system. the devs made a lot of mistakes with the writing in the sequel unfortunately
disregard the dilations of rpg complainers
PoE1 was the most boring CRPG I've played, it's actually impressive how bland it feels as a game despite the unique setting.
It was very "modern" for its time. Making italians black wasn't very popular.
But then the second game came out was even more pozzed and people forgot about it, then avowed came out and everyone forgot about PoE2 because it managed to beat that.
Anyway as a game it's competent but it likes it's filler enemies a little bit too much and when it comes to difficulty it relies too heavily on disablers rather than damage dealers.
Second game is aimed at very specific demo
trannies?
why did they steal Path of Exile's initials
game looks good. even the UI. makes baldurs gate 3 looks like mobile trash.
It's good, but it's not based on dungeons and dragons so it has an enormous base of haters purely because of that.
they are fine, but a little up their own ass at times
do your best to ignore the kickstarter mary sue characters loitering around, they degrade the experience immensely if you read their stupid lore
the worst part of this game is it doesn't have a mod that disables kickstarter content
Too many filler fights, the amount of text is okay. The moment you speak with the gods in the last city is kino.
Holy shit, just don't click on them.
They are 110% optional. It's basically the least intrusive kickstarter content there could be.
The writing is so amazingly dry you won't remember a single fucking character after playing it. I sure don't. Comparatively, I remember every character of the Owlcat games.
perhaps final fantasy would be more suitable for you
durance and grieving mother were supposed to have related character quests. I think durance killed grieving mother's kid and grieving mother made durance insane or something.
My main complaint was the MMO style combat balance, I never felt like I got an item or ability that was over the top or insanely powerful, just incrementing existing strength as I went along. In BG2 for example every time you get another tier of spells you basically skyrocket in power and have to adjust, but the same experience was much less in PoE.
Imagine an RTS combined with a turn-based rpg except the combat is the worst thing you’ve ever experienced. I mean you click somewhere and the companion doesn’t even go there
It just has bad combat
Nothing, at least the first one is pretty good, except lots of boring lore dumping especially near the end.
Can't speak for the 2nd one, I don't like pirates
Imagine an RTS combined with a turn-based rpg except the combat is the worst thing you’ve ever experienced. I mean you click somewhere and the companion doesn’t even go there
It just has bad combat
Simple as
Nobody actually likes crpgs. Most of the people that played them aren't around anymore. With the death of the industry around 2013 pillars' 2014 alpha was a breath of fresh air for many. But predictably it only sold a few million copies. This perplexed obsidian especially when actual garbage like larian was outselling them. They didn't understand that the only reason larian games sell is that low IQ people scam their friends into buying it so they can play 2 hours and never touch it again.
I tried playing PoE, but the intro segment made me drop it.
Playing Tyranny now, I find it a lot more interesting although combat is really wonky.
Nothing? There's really nothing wrong with them, solid games definitely worth one playthrough. There are boring parts but that's with every crpg.
I played both, and enjoyed the first one a little more, but there are both improvements and downgrades, also character stuff carries over so that's cool.
Imo the people who have problems with these games tend to either be people who don't like crpgs anyway or the nuts who can't enjoy anything not bg1/2
I liked blasting niggas. guns are cool
it literally isnt
you are making shit up to get mad at again
Imagine not being able to have fun with dos2.
there seems to be plenty of "people" around to discuss crpg romance faggotry unfortunately
retarded outdated boomer combat design unlike larians games
no multiplayer coop
The gunpowder weapons have a really nice oomph to them. In general, this game has a cool assortment of actual renaissance weapons (compared to the weirdly restrictive mishmash of medieval and renaissance style weapons of so many other fantasy settings).
Also, while making this post, I immediately started to hear Kana chanting in my head.
Deadfire pissed me off. The story is fucking horrible and the tone shift from the first game was far too jarring. Talking to fish people and black Italians the whole game was exhausting. They absolutely ruined Eder, probably because people like him and we cant have anyone liking a white guy in current year. The improvements to combat and party AI was not enough to save it.
this is 100% accurate
No one likes RTwP.
I remember Deadfire getting absolutely MOGGED by DOS2.
I like rtwp
I can be pretty good depending on the game, but it always tends to get tedious and annoying. I'm not sure why some people are so obsessed with it.
the only people obsessed with something in this situation are the ones insisting on everything being turn based
Growing up with the Icewind Dale games, yes, I like it.
b-but turn based
everytime
Larian is a tourist trap type of developer. It shares a lot in common with slop like among us and lethal company and that new game with the android mascots. It bombards the player with an undefinable class system, nonsensical encounters and enemies and unbalanced gameplay. Just enough to keep the stupid person entertained. Nothing about their games is actually well designed it's all a facade for stupid people with lots of voice acting
And it's not like larian was a smash hit developer, ever. They just kept making the same "box of unfinished features" game over and over again until they literally were the only developer left. Kind of like fromsoft and crapcom, rockstar and ubisoft.
nigger
I hate rtwp with many party members. I'm not going to bounce around 6 different characters micro-managing them
Nothing "wrong"-wrong
I mean they have their flaws
IMO
pillars 1
suffers from bad pacing in the last chapter
needed an option to turn off being able to click gold plated NPCs, leave them, but remove the gold plating and replace text with a ordinary npc placeholder text
character models look wonky in the character screen
that's about it
pillars 2
game without story DLCs feels like a game with cut content
tho at these times the game is always bundled with DLCs on sale so it's fine
I wish some noteworthy sidekicks had even more spotlight and that the death godlike one wasn't locked behind high level content
they are still some of the best the genre has to offer, and most of anons who say otherwise are just poltards who hate mah commifornians, as evident by this very thread
All the refined design in the world won't make an unfun game fun Josh.
Again people don't actually like CRPGs, all pillars is is a greatest hits compilation of black isle games. If you don't like pillars you're a poser, which uh, apparently is 99% of Anon Babble
it's not that hard. and you're supposed to have them do some stuff automatically
I like crpgs.
Forced to read like im playing a game from the 90s
Pass.
apparently not, inb4 you claim to like fallout which has even worse combat than dos 2
it's about the aesthetics
So's pillars, but you don't give that the benefit of the doubt now do you
It insists upon itself.
No one complains its "its too hard". Just that it's annoying to micromanage. You can't let AI do everything in the tough fights.
reading bad
underage banned
AI can't solo bossfights
underage banned
they're cool. 1 > 2
You're so brave. How many BG2 playthroughs have you done? 20?
it's annoying to micromanage
I don't see why. in most small encounters you'll only be doing maybe <5 things. these are games about combat. if you don't like combat you shouldn't be here
tough fights
yes in harder fights you need to do more things
I don't play BG2 I play BG1 which has more soul.
Nah. I just did enough of that shit back then and dont feel like doing it anymore. There's not even an excuse to not have shit being read out, just have AI do it and put out a patch.
reading unironically unequivocally bad
nigger you're reading shitposts right now
usually the options for them doing things automatically are too broad and I have to keep changing it so they'll use important shit in just hard fights and not during easy fights
Amazing.
I plan to do a second playthrough of PoE1, this time playing a bleak walker death-godlike.
My previous character was a wood elf ranger goody two-shoes, and want to really switch things up, playing a brutal death knight.
My problems: Want to have good intelligence and resolve, as my previous character was meh at these, for different dialog options. Also want to make that paladin aggressive, taking advantage of the death-godlike ability. BUT also want to use other characters I previously didn't pick up, which would make this party very melee-centric (though my previous one was very ranged-centric).
Also, I think there was some cutlass or sabre with really high corrosion damage? I remember reading something about this sabre being a strong weapon for a bleak walker. The two-handed sword is a paladin classic, though I could take the ruffian ability and also pick up pistols as ranged weapon, letting the bleak walker shoot from the second like. That, however, would mean the high resolve is kinda wasted.
I feel like I want to do too many things at the same time with this character.
Very based.
Im also not playing a game right now.
But that's exactly what you're doing in turn based just slower.
Thanks for this, it didn't exist when I played it I didn't know someone made one. I guess I'll replay it soon
yeah, WE KNOW you don't play video games
you also don't read, you have some serious crippling brain damage
I like crpgs
but I _____love______ pillars games
They don't understand, they think turn based auto pausing for every companion and waiting for them to move is somehow faster
they're actually incapable of any higher understanding
RTWP is garbage for serious fights, turn based is too slow for garbage fights. It should have let you switch between them freely like Pathfinder at least.
Both games are fun especially on hardest difficulty, but the writing is just not all that interesting.
I mostly agree but the stats system in poe1 is pants on head retarded. Every class ends up having a god stat when supposedly this in-house rulebook is made to remove dump stats.
I like it but poe goes in the wrong direction. You shouldn't need to constantly pause. Your party should do its thing most of the time, with a few directions from the player. There could be more complicated fights where more pausing is required. Prebuffing is super gay and should be eliminated. Poe has prebuffing but worse because buffs/debuffs are good but you gotta cast them in combat. So you go through the same series of buffs/debuffs every fight which is extremely tedious. Buffs should be permanently toggled outside of combat subject to restrictions of some kind. Kiting should mostly be impossible because it's boring and retarded.
name a system it is more retarded than
RTWP is good for serious fights its just no other game made it as fluid and good to play as in BG1/2, i couldnt stand Pathfinder Real time combat
almost all builds are viable in PoE up to and including veteran difficulty
both intelligence and resolve work mechanically and thematically for a paladin
and besides attributes only affect outcomes as like +-25% tops
so I really don't see what's your problem
no other game made it as fluid and good to play as in BG1/2
Fucking Christ, none of you faggots ever touched the Icewind Dale series.
Poe has prebuffing but worse because buffs/debuffs are good but you gotta cast them in combat
so it's not prebuffing retard
you go through the same series of buffs/debuffs every fight
you chose to play it like that
nigga it's the same shit
I treat the same as the same games, its infinity engine
Did Tim Buckley write the script?
WORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDSWORDS
Pathfinder: wotr
so it's not prebuffing retard
Nitpicking. It still sucks.
you chose to play it like that
If it's possible, I will do it. Gameplay where doing what's optimal is tedious is inherently dogshit.
PoE1 is dreadfully boring. I got to Twin Elms at least 3 times and i never managed to push through, the game is just impossibly bland. The DLC is better and probably the only part of content worth doing, but only thanks to the locations and itemization.
BG1 is "fluid and easy to play" because half the classes don't do anything and fighter destroys the game.
Legitimately try and solo the game as a thief, guess what you're going to end up doing? looking through nightstands and throwing molotovs. You're not actually going to get to play the game. But then again, that is the game, for thief. That's why DnD systems suck
Any.
Strength wizards and int barbs don't make no damned sense.
Poe has prebuffing but worse because buffs/debuffs are good but you gotta cast them in combat.
that means it has no prebuffing you silly goose
prebuffing is what you do before combat, that's what "pre" means
buffing in combat has an opportunity cost because your char could have been doing something else
it creates a cost/benefit dichotomy and strategical decision space therefor it is good
it creates a cost/benefit dichotomy and strategical decision space therefor it is good
Anon you just press the buff button before enemies even run into you
There's no "strategy", there's no "cost/benefit", you just press the damn buttons every encounter instead of once per rest
if you don't play BG1/2 with the SCS AI mods, you didn't really play the game.
jesus christ this board is legitimately 80 iq
that has attributes that do nothing
int barbarians are a bit of a stretch, and not a good build so who cares. I don't see anything wrong with strength wizard
And it's not even like you need to buff every fight.
These people complain about trash fights in RTwP games and also make it sound like every fight if a battle for survival.
it's not necessarily optimal. you just filled your party with spellcasters and are now complaining about casting spells. be less gay in future
SCS is broken and destabilizes the game. Putting in "super mobs" in encounters is retarded. It's only reason for existing is so that neckbeards can be slowed with their 6 man beserker fighter team
No shit retard. I'm saying that it still sucks because you have to do the buff dance every combat. The cost benefit is trivial because the buffs are fucking strong and you will flatten most enemies once your buff combo is up. Furthermore enemies take a long time to run to you and actually do anything so you might as well buff. The only "cost benefit" is that you could skip some of the buffs so the buff dance is less gay. That's a very boring decision.
I don't see anything wrong with strength wizard
They aren't even strength wizards, the attribute is called might and does exactly what it's supposed to do.
The only problem, and it's a minor problem, is how might is described in dialog options, for instance when your wizard suddenly chokes a bitch using their might attribute. That happens in maybe three scenes and doesn't break anything except maybe a bit of immersion.
It is necessarily optimal, in PoE, to use a good amount of buffs. Even 2 rounds per combat is a pain in the ass, basically the same gameplay as BG2 prebuffing except gayer because you have to try to do it quickly.
you can faceroll most encounters using per encounter abilities
So what? I'm talking about nontrivial encounters. Who fucking cares about encounters where Eder can autoattack it to death? You disingenuous faggot.
ridiculously minor, I don't get why we're talking about it. other games I'm sure do the same thing but way worse without a mention
It just feels unappealing, I've played the second one and all the in-universe unique terms and sayings were a turn off, the whole creole/bahamas/native inspired fantasy, the weird terminology, the npcs being all ugly as sin, the unique races being some kind of furry gnome and slimy fish men, that, coincidentally were also ugly as fuck.
Everything about the game feels unappealing except for the scenery and monster design, look at pic related, this isn't "realistic" normal humans are on average this fucking ugly, literally every single person you speak to in the game is repulsive to look at I don't understand what they get out of it
poe doesn't have rounds nigger
what about Other Game
cool.
why not?
it can make perfect mechanical and narrative sense
int barbs
from a narrative perspective barbarians are living outside of civilization so the dumbest ones are filtered, making barbarians clever on average
from a mechanical perspective while a fighter might duel a single opponent, a barbarian relies on wits to react to small windows of opportunities to deliver blows to all enemies around him
str wizards
meachanically: yeah you can learn a ritual for a spell but do you have the muscle to channel more raw magical energy into reality?
narratively speaking there is nothing prohibiting both physical ability and knowledge from a profession and we have it irl, e.g. a mechanic needs to know a lot, but it's also a physically challenging trade, a neurosurgeon needs to know a PhD worth of shit, but also requires phenomenal eye-hand coordination
Oh my god, that's such a good point anon! I'm totally btfo'd. It makes such a big difference which unit of time you measure the game in.
like what? you realize the game uses an extremely simplified spell system right? All the spells have a specific thing they do. The best one in the game is probably the consecrated ground spell which makes your fighter practically invulnerable. You can pop it and pretty much faceroll every boss in the game
if you're choosing to cast a load of buffs for a 12 second combat because it's optimal (it's not) and then complaining about it, I don't know what to tell you gaylord
don't be moody with me just because you made a dum-dum out of yourself in public, you silly goose :3
you are wrong in a lot of things, the most fundamental being
ok but which buff specifically is worth casting while I have the time?
because you are going to have dozzens (not actual dozens tho I dunno maybe actual dozzens) by higher levels
that creates a strategic decision space, so it is good
Durance and Eder are both enjoyable characters. People also like Weeping Mother, but I didn't use her.
LMAO
no
extremely simplified
are you saying bad
Yeah I can see why people playing pillars would appreciate a character with no dialogue.
i played bg1 on journalist difficulty with solo class and i had nothing to do
brain damage
it would've been cool to have some party members not getting on. like korgan killing aerie
these games were not fun
It's good in those games because of 2E, where martials didn't have hardly any skills to use so you only had to bother with the casters.
Both Durance and Eder are fairly talkative, as is the mage guy. Probably because they are early party members.
Anon Babble defending PoE2
Having every class benefit from every stat (even allowing for different builds within the same class) is far and away the best thing about PoE2. Fuck DND it’s a terrible system mechanically, personality shouldn’t even be in the same system as mechanical stats
Certain classes are just garbage. Always have been. Pillars tries to rectify that borrowing a lot from 4e.
Ah, a CRPG thread on Anon Babble, time to read some truly deplorable opinions
It's always full of bad takes and extreme tribalism.
at least it's not Anon Babble
dual and multi classing is a thing, there are item actives also most of martial classes have spells, basically everyone besides pure fighter and a thief had shit to do and both of those classes should be multiclassed or dual classed
a thing
a bad thing
Nuh.
Maybe if you think RPGs are about expression and freedom, or you enjoy water sandwiches.
The main reason people praise BG combat is because of mods like SCS or even some mods like Tactics/Improved Anvil etc. If other games with different combat systems also had dedicated fans that modded its difficulty for years, they would get to BG status too
Like I'm 100% certain if DA:O also had a modder constantly modding its combat for more than a decade it would get praised for its combat too
I liked DA:O combat. I have no idea why people have an issue with it.
nobody plays mods
2ed DnD offers much better build and gameplay variety, DAO combat really is a low point of that game.
miserable setting, rtwp sucks, written by guys in their 40s who never outgrew teenage ideas of what "mature" was supposed to be.
Isn't this game a bunch of atheist wanking with really dry, boring gameplay?
2ed DnD offers much better build and gameplay variety
It doesn't even have feats.
2ed DnD offers much better build and gameplay variety
This is your mind on 20 years of DnD cope.
bloat of 1500 feats in pathfinder where only 20 are worth using is not a good thing
Simply not having skills to use on fighters and other martials only having some kept the game from becoming a slideshow like with PoE
I last played DA:O like a million years ago so I can't give you exact criticisms but off the top of my head
Balance is even worse than BG2 and Mages are even more powerful
The enemy variety is extremely low. Your main enemies are hurlocks and other Darkspawn I can't remember, the only one that has any difference is the rogue ones and they don't even restealth after their first hit. Even the human enemies don't have much difference in classes/specs(Did they even have specs?) and mages don't have much difference in spell selection
these wizardfag opinions are ridiculous
I like the second game more because of the ship raiding and exploration stuff.
Holy fuck anon, play Icewind Dale 2. That game has some build variety.
but you have skills on fighters and spells on most kits so no idea what are you talking about, by your logic pathfinder is the same you can pick the most braindead class go autocast on main skill and right click entire game
I don't know what it is, but the world just isn't that interesting. I've tried multiple times to get into the game; wanted to learn more about Waidwen and the Godhammer, but I get pulled away from the game every time and lose interest.
isn't that 3rd ed dnd
Wtf how dare they deconstruct fantasy RPG gods?! This is an attack on us traditional Christian Anon Babble users!
muh multiclassing is not the good kind of build variety. there should be variety within a class
I found I didn't have to pause as much to dole out commands in the IE games vs modern RTwP games.
It actually is, but not for people who think "strength wizard or int barb should be viable" is a good idea.
I see I was right.
Why shouldn’t they be viable?
"Identity"
It actually is
how? the game is 90% garbage
should be viable
there's nothing particularly wrong with them being viable. you know you're making a bit of a goofy non-standard build when doing it
*inhales*
YES
SO FUCK WHAT
2E IS ALSO THE SAME D&D GARBAGE AND YOU PLAYING THE SCUFFED SHITTY VIDEO GAME VARIANT ANYWAY WITH BARELY ANY VARIETY IN BUILDS
YOU CAN MAKE A WHOLE FUCKING WIZARD PARTY IN IWD2 AND THEY ALL DO DIFFERENT THINGS IN THEIR WIZARDRY
STOP IGNORING THE ICEWIND DALE SERIES, IT'S GREAT
You cannot for one second praise BG1/BG2 for build variety and then dismiss IWD2, this is insanity.
I'm not even talking about multiclassing, fucking nigger.
And dual-classing is way worse anyway.
I know whatever cool "build variety" in BG2 you will bring up consists of weirdly autistic dual-class bullshit.
oh I'm cool McDude and I totally forgot how to be a fighter for four levels!
Yeah, that makes fucking sense.
It's supposed to but they're not in the game. Before wizards turned dnd into an ivory tower build simulator there were non weapon proficiencies which is an infinitely better system than feats. They helped gain bonuses for combat, made resting more efficient, help npcs, boost skill checks, make adventuring tools like grappling hooks.
Also there were special ones for certain classes, like thief jumping. Now everybody can jump 30 feet in the air
rtwp
Miss me with that adhd shit.
everyone knows dual classing is mega retard bad design and makes no sense
most people ignore IWD cause its boring dungeon crawler.
a body builder who who uses magic to fraudmax and beat his enemies to death with hardened stone fists
a wise leader from the frigid northlands who seeks to lead his people into the modern age
“Nooo you can’t do that it has to suck mechanically”
IWD games are fucking great, you just want dating-sims.
This is my last Akko.
So what exactly is bad about BG1&2EE aside from new donut steel characters? I just want to play the old games without them obliterating windows on my second monitor, that's all
Even owlcat had to add turn based into pathfinder, and their newest game is only turn based kek.
go back
dual classing is mega retard bad design
LOL, imagine being so retarded you need class kits which are basically a premade dual class instead of enjoying freedom of making your own custom dual class build
Fundamentally changed BG1 into a completely different game by switching engines.
new donut steel characters
theres mod which removes them
you reee for 10 years about strength wizards and such, but say nothing against the other games where there's no attack speed stat, spell duration/damage/area is not variable with attributes and strength is both accuracy and damage
kits are a bit lame. I'd prefer it all to be options within the class
Adding kits to BG1 was a mistake.
2ed DnD offers much better build
a) you are talking about AD&D2e, that's not D&D2e
b) I'm playing BG1 for the first time and what to play a fighter, what build would you recommend I do?
c) same but with a wizard?
there are no "builds" in AD&D, you fucking inbred mongoloid retard, you just pick an "archetype" and stick to it
inb4 what about weapon proficiency and thief skills, what about a red hot iron bar up your ass? that's not enough to call it a "build"
still sub 2 million sales
god this place is retarded
The first one is a bit too much of a tribute act to the Infinity Engine games, lacks an identity of its own, but there is some neat stuff in there, and then the second is maybe the most disappointed I've ever been by a sequel.
That's a shitload for what is essentially a current year PS3 gen game
Anwser me I showed you my abs
I liked the first one because it was a tribute to the IE games. It truly felt like what black isle would have released after IWD2. Deadfire was weird.
That's a shitload
it wasn't even a shitload 10 years ago
I'll help you both out.
One of the most important parts of the dungeons and dragons gamemasters guide was an appendix called appendix N.
Appendix N lists all the fiction that dungeons and dragons could be considered as having been influenced by.
Elric, Conan, Cthulhu, Dying Earth.
Stories truly resonant in fantasy that continue to inspire new works even today.
That's where all the conventions come from.
Now imagine you're so smug and assured and from rpgcodex that you decide that none of this matters, and you don't need it.
Your OCs are the bestest OCs and you'll show everyone in your video game, that wizards can be mighty and warriors can be cerebral.
And it comes out and people hate it because its as bland as air scented cardboard.
Oops! That was pillars!
so essentially you are saying you retarded
got it
Pillars 1 universe actually isn't bad. You can tell this was before obsidian fell apart. Now Pillars 2 is an odd duck because they destroy their own universe. I assume this was because of paradox worrying that the game was going to fail and demanding a bunch of fluff features and themes even if it retconned the previous game. So much effort goes into retconning the first game, even deleveling you and your party inexplicably.
every piece of fiction needs to use the conventions of DnD even though they don’t work for a video game
??????
warriors can be cerebral
Conan
Every single part of the game can most accurately be described as FUCKING BORING.
Characters
Story
World
Graphics
Gameplay
Quests
All fucking boring.
I'm convinced that BG3's success was largely due to fortunate timing. It launched when there was strong demand for a high quality singleplayer RPG, and it happened to deliver a solid experience with a well known brand attached. Devs werent nickel dimming dlc, mtx kikes which got them excellent word of mouth marketing from fans. Its cinematic presentation and high production values were major selling points I don't think the turn-based combat system was the key factor in its popularity compared to similar games like Pathfinder
I like RTwP but don’t like that I have to pause
I also don’t like prebuffing which is pretty much a core component of any RTwP system
So basically you don’t like RTwP you fucking mong
BG3 was successful because there's a legion of braindead DnD niggers who will buy literally anything with the brand on it and claim it's the greatest thing in the world.
BG3 was hugely successful, yet only 51% of players ever finished act 1. Because the people who like BG3 don't like playing RPGs, they just like buying things named Dungeons and Dragons.
Act 1 can take you like 20-30 hours+ so I don’t think you can glean too much from how many people completed it
Yeah I too see Solasta topping the charts, it is D&D after all
Solasta is a no name CRPG made by a no name studio, that isn't very good and has absolutely no story to speak of.
And it's successful enough purely off the Dungeons and Dragons brand that it got multiple DLCs and is getting a sequel.
Josh Sawyer's obsession with balance has made both Pillars games kind of boring to play, alongside the transition into Deadfire being this weird as fuck change from "From the developers who played Baldur's Gate" to "Remember that we made Storms of Zehir?"
I tried to like Pillars but twice now I’ve reached the first major city and got so bored at how many words every NPC there spews out that I dropped it for something else
there's nothing wrong with storm of zehir fag. and balance is good. you're just a certain kind of player that derives their enjoyment from doing dumb shit
how many words every NPC there spews out
is it more than Pathfinder wotr?
I certainly believe it is
it's stellar marketing and timing, coupled with woke astroturfing for their woke dating sim "game" about ugly pozzed gross people
Normal peopel left disappointed without eeven finishing act 1, the rest are just gay porn addict
i sure that sounds real in your schizophrenic mind
that's more than those who finished PKMs 1st chapter, which is also probably like 2-3 times shorter compared to BG3
PS
it might be a novel idea to someone without a single ounce of critical thinking skills
but you should test your own ideas before clinging onto them
not to mention before presenting them publicly
especially since it takes like 10 seconds, you silly goose :3
here I saved you 10 seconds
Literally nobody gives a shit about Kingmaker.
more people got filtered by a harder game
Also normies don’t even know the Pathfinder/3e split they play 5e
Have you read Conan? Because the movies do not portray him correctly. He is both cunning and insightful. Sure, he can't do complex math on the fly, but he understands the ideas of philosophy, metaphysics and has very clear answers to any downer pseud rhetoric.
Literally nobody gives a shit about Kingmaker
life is full of surprises if you are a dumbass, eh?
picrel, idiot
the point is that basing an argument around "only" roughly 50% finishing the first chapter for BG3 is retarded idea that has not been tested against reality
these numbers are typical for crpgs
The gameplay loop is not balanced, you either talk for hours or fight for hours
The White March is good, but it's stuck inside one of the most boring, soulless and creatively bankrupt games ever made.
He was also a capable ruler and commander, showing some genuine tactical understanding when he fought that stygian wizard and his army.
I think it was Stygia, read the short stories a long time ago
I think that's the point anon was trying to convey
Conan is essentially a "every stat is 18 some are 19" type of character because it is fundamentally a mary sue fiction before mary sue fiction became a meme
so it makes complaining about cunning barbarians not being based on classical fantasy fiction retarded
that hurts your argument retard, it means only people who bought it are Pathfinder fans yet 1st chapter finished less despite being much shorter, embarrassing
samefagging this hard
enjoying the absence of IP counter eh?
Conan isn't a mary sue. You simply shouldn't apply notions of video game balance to a novel character.
i forgot picrel
here it is
Conan isn't a mary sue
he is, and you will not be able to provide a convincing argument why this isn't the case
Sorry, I didn't read the thread before replying. How many posts are also me?
It's mostly standards shitting the bed that saw BG3 sell. Half of steam is chinese now and BG3 was financed by china, ignoring this just means you're retarded. Tencent literally paid to resurrect a science fiction expo in the US that died because of trump derangement syndrome in order for them to give a writing award to the game. The game is actually puddle deep, basically an even worse version of playstation movie games.
Conan is a number of things:
a good fighter
a adventurer and explorer
a capable thief
later, a good commander and king
He's not a wizard and he actively fears wizards. He's not a scholar, his wisdom is based on his life experiences. He's not a mathematician or physician. He's not overly charismatic, a lot of people mistrust him.
There are moments where he struggles to fight greater beasts, and he gets tricked and fucked over. There is even one instance where he runs away from some ancient evil god-thing.
Him becoming a king is the result of his long journey and growth as a character. It's also simply in line with the idea of a warrior earning his place in the world through the strength of his arms and skill in comeback. And even then, it's not guaranteed that he succeeds as a king and can maintain this position.
Conan doesn't have many flaws, and his strengths are well-defined and follow a theme and an idea. A mary sue however is overly skilled in almost everything, well-liked by everyone (except those that the writer wants you to hate), hardly struggles.
the combat system, tons of trash mobs + RTWP just doesn't work
/Thread.
I might have played it if it was like Diablo. But bullshit systems are disgusting. Tactics Ogre or Baldur's Gate etc I don't care about stupid combat. It ruined Tides of Numeria. I can't stand such fucking stupid wastes of time. Fuck anyone who gets off on it. Camera needs to be centred on you, updating all the time too.
You think the turn-based system they're adding on this summer will work out?
PoE 2 has turn based and it doesn’t really work because the systems aren’t designed to be turn based, it fucks with the gameplay balance
I heard that TB is broken in PoE2 because of how the systems are designed for RTWP, why would they add it to a decade old game now?
It would've sold way more copies if it was turn based.
Real time with pause rpgs are terrible.
to get some attention from bg3 normies I guess
your gay
nobody gives a fuck about turn based rpgs you brain damaged retard, Dragon age or mass effect were 100x times bigger than any of the turn based rpgs released before bg3
anon you've just finished describing a mary sue
and then proceeded to set a slightly higher arbitrary threshold of mary-suenes when it starts being a "real" mary sue
this is not an argument
example
he isn't bloodthirsty he only killed all men, elders and women, but was he really bloodthirsty he would have killed all the children too
an arbitrary threshold of bloodthirst
look I'm not here to argue about that, we aren't on lit
if you enjoy conan as a character, well so do I
he's defo a mary sue tho fr
Uh huh, so why did Owlcat and Obsidian add TB into their games?
IIRC I bricked my save by falling down some hole thing and then saving and I was stuck with everything being way over my level. Never played it again.
please correct all my grammar mistakes as you read
I'm a ESL
I'm tired a bit
and most importantly I don't care
I wanted to engage with you more, but
fr
Go away.
The problem with pause and action RPGs like Dragon Age is that you are reliant on the stupid AI tactics to not screw you over. At least you could only blame yourself if it were a turn based game instead.
because they are trend chasing faggots and funny how you mentioned it considering switching to a turn based didnt help their games popularity
stupid AI tactics
you are supposed to control party members yourself outside of trash mob fights
They are alright, at least the first one is, I havent played 2.
The whole thing (mechanics, setting, lore) just feels like offbrand DnD or neverwinter nights.
Most of the builds all end up feeling pretty samey too.
How? There's no time to control your team members and if you switch from them they just do their tactics instead, its just retard gameplay. If I'm meant to control the other party members, just make it a turn based game instead.
Owlcat
Becaue the mod for Kingmaker turned out to be a good solution that was easy to implement. As for Rogue Trader, I'm glad they didn't fall for the RTwP meme - it only ever worked well in IE games.
Obsidian
The management told them to copy DOS2.
you can thank me for consciously leaving a way out for you (obviously lacking any good arguments) later
DA:O has one of the best AI customization systems and unmodded rtwp games aren't hard enough to the point where you have to switch characters constantly, your point is retarded
It would be correct if you were talking about something like 3d Fallouts
You say that but why are they just now adding TB to poe1? Probably because it helped deadfires popularity.
theres active pause? you can literally stop game give out all orders and then unpause, do you idiots not know how RTWP works?
if a game not being turn based causes you to start sperging frothily, aren't you missing out on 80% of games
Nah, its just better than real time with cringe.
i dont hate TB, if they make tb work in that game good for them maybe people who dislike RTWP will play it now, but i still think turn based combat is not a reason behind BG3 success.
Only RTWP games are valid, sisters, keep fighting the China-funded Big Turn-Based Cabal!
I'm a Tyranny guy, I only wish the dialogue portraits were illustrated and the character models were a little more Bruce Timm, which is the direction they were leaning but were too cowardly to commit to.
now do this every 2 seconds
Wow so fun
it just being a preference doesn't explain the relentless fagging about it in every thread for years
Yeah ok. RTwP cultists are far more loud and obnoxious in any crpg thread.
cooldowns are usually longer than this and not everyone needs to be babysat 24/7 to land an auto attack, besides thats literally what you are doing in TB game, painstakingly controlling every action of every character each turn
are they in the thread with us now
Yeah, can you not read?
Literally starting from the first reply to the thread
the combat is hot garbage
every single fight is clogging a choke point with your tank while your other characters AoE everything to death
they also made the very "interesting" decision to hide AoE radius markers on hard mode so the main skillcheck is guessing how wide your AoE hits while you clog the choke and heal your tank
Kek, the OP wasn't even saying anything about turnbased, that is wild.
the old games didn't show you aoe radius. and nice shitter tactic
see a specific option
the game warns you what this option does
select the option
complain on Anon Babble about what this option does
a) a lot of encounters (especially tougher ones) don't provide any choke points at all
b) hiding aoe radius is not "a hard mode", it's a separate option designed for those who don't want aoe radius hints specifically, nothing to do with difficulty
I swear to god everytime I see someone with his "incredible" takes on why PoE is not good I think to myself that liking PoE is like an IQ test that another retard had failed miserably
thankfully enhanced edition has aoe indicators you just need to turn them on in config file, it looks janky but its better than nothing
Niggers, shitskins, faggots, weak males and feminists. Typical SJW trash basedboys releasing in attempt to push their propaganda. These cucks at Obsidian knew exactly what gamers want when they presented all white initial cast with young white woman as a sidekick at some gaming event only to do 180 kill them all and start shtiskinnery which is getting progressively worse with their every game and subsequent DLC. They know what they are doing is bad for business, but they do it anyway, openly and loud.
OPs screenshot looks interesting. But Games? Wiki says theres one game out...?
did you just google poe1 and got the chinese loot simulator wiki and assumed its pillars of eternity?
There are two Pillars of Eternity CRPGs
