Unfortunately the game has too many annoying characters like Lillie and Hau, I don't understand how either of those characters have any fans.

Kanto had no real lore, there was the whole Mewtwo thing but that's a man-made thing.
Johto gives us Hoenn as being the creator of the legendary beasts which is cool, Lugia as guardian of the seas
Hoenn admittedly does ramp it up to the creators of the land/sea, but then Sinnoh goes too far with the uber supreme god of everything who created all legendaries that came after.
You can't even argue that it'd be the natural progression since gen V toned it down, likely cause there's nowhere higher to go after Gen IVs bullshit.

For reference, people have compiled usage stats from months of various HoF teams (challenge playthroughs, nuzlockes), and Johto is by far the most centralised. 1/3 people are going to use the same 3 Pokemon because everything else is dogwater.
