Kodaka was clearly writing danganronpa and Uchikoshi tried to transform it into Zero Escape. Slasher route was genuinely fucking terrible and I can't believe it made it into the game. She’s literally a completely different character
I understand having some inconsistencies when there’s multiple writers, but it’s absurd in her case. Counting her brainwashed self there’s basically three versions of this character. Brainwashed puppet, a sweet girl that doesn’t want to fight, and a conniving bitch. And what’s this obsession with her mask about? She never cared about it before. In her own route where she escapes with Takumi she never wears it or even mentions it. Now it’s apparently like being naked. Is she infected with the bug in the top routes? That would make more sense than this.
It's a big flaw with having multiple writers, inconsistencies like this. She only heavily cares about her mask in one route. Lobotomised Eva I understand, but when she isn't she should heavily want her mask. I still like her a lot though. I think she's lovely. Hiruko also acted very out of character to me in the coming of age route.

I think the reason for the mask thing is that at least in the ones where she wants it she’s still considering herself one of the champions of the planet and it holds religious significance. Then with the Eva route which is essentially running away to join the rebellion pretty much she doesn’t need it anymore. Also keeping in mind the only reason she acted scared and sad was to wait for the opportunity that everyone was near her so she could blow them up but I’m guessing sirei being around fucks that plan up pretty hard with the brainwashing.
This seems like a stretch to reconcile the poor consistency, considering she seems quite genuine when her brainwashing is dispelled. It’s established plainly that she only cares about Kamyuhn and never wanted to fight in this war. She’s mousey and conflict avoidant. Her sister acknowledges this as well. Part of her character seems to be that she’s essentially the polar opposite to her battle-hungry sister. Other characters act weird on the top side too. But she’s the most obviously different. Likely because she’s not part of the core cast, but still adjacent to it.

The plot with the mask is quite simple: it doesn’t actually have the significance that she claims it has, but rather Eva was definitely trying to escape in order to run away with the pedobait and was not trying to help anyone on that route at all. That's why she doesn't give a shit anymore after she had that pseudo-incestuous connection with Nozomi
oh there’s certainly consistency problems across all the routes but at least with this I can see a little still fitting. I forget where but I recall Kamyuhn getting shunned from her position because of what happened to Eva. And Eva in KG still attempted to rejoin their forces but it didn’t go over so well. I think it’s she’s only bothering to be in the army at all because it reflects poorly on Kamyuhn if Eva fucks up. I will say it feels a little odd to me seeing KG and Mystery Eva first before her own route, I felt like she a little too easily went along with Takumi but it was seemingly a ticket out of there. Wish that route didn’t just skip to the end

I think the inconsistency puts a damper on the game, and shows how ridiculous the 100 endings gimmick is just conceptually. The game has a strong enough core narrative and cast that it never needed all of this. Imagine a version where only Kodaka wrote the game, and he stuck to having only a few alternate routes. This also would’ve lent more budget to flesh out the other routes and include some cinematic cutscenes for them. That’s already a higher concept than Danganronpa just for having different outcomes. He’s talented, but he has ridiculous ideas. And the final product shows both his genuine talent, and his stupidity.
The game is still great, and I’ll eventually replay it. But with a roadmap on what to do and what to ignore next time. Just sticking to the spare Eito side and doing a few of those branching routes along the way to ending 001 seems like the best option.

I’d say KG gives a lot of good characterization to people that didn’t quite get to shine in other routes, especially Yugamu. Eva is probably best in KG and seeing the relationship she develops with Nozomi and then getting to meet her daughter. I think Kamyuhn gets the most screen time in KG too huh? It was one of the first routes I did so it’s funny now seeing all the Tsubasa complaints about her being overly favored by the writers but it was a pleasant surprise seeing that relationship naturally develop with her and Takumi it was very unexpected. Had to fuck it all up with Darumi there though, Retsnom right after helped alleviate my growing hatred for her thankfully.
Oh and rebellion was also almost as disappointing as Eva’s route for me but at least it wasn’t AS quick as Eva’s. There were still fights in it lol

I’m glad there’s still some that like slasher, I still don’t get the hate. I liked it and even re read it afterwards too. I did it after both KG and 2nd scenario, so maybe it’s that I not only didn’t mind there not being anything related to the story from the prologue but also I was already familiar with a justification for the revive o matic to not work so I was not as offput by it happening in other routes. I did however keep waiting for them to confirm like Tsubasa did in KG that they got fucked with. I guess you’re just supposed to assume that the culprit who did so in KG did the same in the other kill Eito timelines.
Conspiracy gives some insight into the political situation on the satellite, whereas 2nd scenario just glosses over it.

Minus the obvious Serial Battles and Comedy, the routes Kodaka worked on personally seem to be the common favorites.
There is SRPG gameplay but it's pretty fucking easy, plus at around the halfway point you get the option to just skip every encounter for no penalty at all.

And would be unacceptable in any other type of game. You would have to actively ignore them in order to say this game story is good

I think you're misremembering. The massive personality storage is Sirei's CPU; he's designed to simulate humanity's collective will so he can determine what he's supposed to do without needing to contact the satellite.
If you take your time doing what you're "supposed" to do - upgrading equipment, collecting crafting materials in the shit board game, raising your grades - it can definitely take about that long. I don't remember what my hours were at Day 45, but the prologue took me 35 hours in total. Game has too much fucking filler in it and I still don't know why.

It ranks high among those games. Some routes are doodoo, but as long as you don’t stumble into them immediately you’re good. For example a lot of people ended up running headfirst into a comedy route where nothing happens.
It's unironically 70% filler. I'd probably have liked it but trying to stretch the story out not only across 100 days but also 100 endings really makes it a slog, plus characters are very inconsistent and change because theres about 7+ different writers working on it.

When you say longer than umineko do you mean all of umineko? Because uminekos length is greatly over exaggerated people look at the word count alone but never actually read it. When going through umineko one of the most common wastes of time is for a character to say something and then repeat it over and over and go on paragraphs long tangents redundantly repeating themselves in different ways. A good editor could easily cut 30% of the total text no problem

If you're not enjoying it at all, it just might not be for you. I enjoyed the prologue. Gameplay-wise, it's probably the best part of the game, since as you go through routes, you're going to be stomping, and maybe straight up skipping enemy waves.

I don't know if I didn't click the right place, but to get both endings of the CoA route, I had to redo the entire final battle, which was annoying.
I know there's one in 2nd scenario where the choice is depicted by an action you take in like wave 4 of a battle, so to go the other route you need to repeat the whole thing. I don't know why they can't just start you at the decision.

There's way too much time spent on nothing in Hundred Line. Even when you can skip things, it still wastes your time in the end. I just want to read the story because it's actually quite good in some routes, but because of it being 100 days, it insists to waste my time by going to free time and Takumi just kinda doing nothing, waiting for the days to count down.

Play what you find interests you, and if you see a route mentioned that's getting high praise, also probably play that.
Only a couple have roadblocks, and they’re best left alone until later. I’d recommend following along the spare Eito side and doing what you feel like. Keeping a straight line from there on the flowchart will lead you down the main story path. And the better routes are ones that branch from this one, rather than the top side of the chart where you kill Eito. After getting ending 001, I’d go ahead and explore the stuff with locks.

I just started it, in day 30+ reunited with other people my theory is that characters never resurrect, instead they become commanders and instead their clones keep fighting for them without knowing they are clones, and commanders are the old characters trying to get free from that Death cycle. I also assume Karua's managed to survive thanks to her low tolerance to Persona 3 knifes

They would actually have something to say about recent events. Each character has 2 short scenes and then says the same shit. The "every ending is equally valid" stuff is just marketing. 2nd Scenario and to a lesser extent the SF route is what I personally treat as "canon". The other routes just serve for additional characterization (eg. Retsnom for Darumi) or I just totally ignore (Comedy route, Slasher route, Box of Blessings, Rebellion, Serial Battle ...) Most routes in this game are best ignored entirely tbqh.
