one of the things that bothered me the most about the transition from 2016 to eternal was the change in menu design.
the menus in 2016 were so sleek and beautiful.
i really feel like they dropped the ball with the menus and HUD design from a conceptual standpoint artistically in eternal.
however, the HUD in eternal was functional and made everything i needed to see highly visible. i found the transition to such video-gameyness very jarring still despite the fact that i still enjoyed the gameplay. i understand why they push the combat loop in eternal, and i do think it's very enjoyable when you've really got it down and are on high difficulty.
but again, aesthetically and artistically, the original doom 2016 was superior on all fronts, and that's necessary to make the shooting gameplay so engaging. it wouldn't be fun if the mechanics were identical but everything was just colored blobs and boxes with no scenery or story.

It just built upon 2016 though, it was the same gameplay, but more, with more options. Unlike the dark ages that removed a bunch.
Aesthetics in general were great in Doom 4, it has been nothing but downgrades since then.

Parry doesn't belong in fps as it takes away from core elements of a genre which is using movement to avoid damage and aiming and shooting your weapon to inflict damage. Pressing buttons like in rhythm game to do both just makes it more accessible for tourists while alienating hardcore fps fans.

I liked DOOM and Eternal but I think I've had enough Nu-DOOM for now. Supposedly it runs way worse too and from the videos I've seen, it looks like Eternal graphically, but worse because the levels seem more bland, there are more open empty areas, and it seems like there are a lot of dark, single-tone areas without any light sources which seems extra strange for a game with forced ray tracing. The colorful orb webms didn't help, definitely not what I was expecting out of the shield gameplay of the first reveal.
It's also more expensive. Eternal was $60, meaning I paid like $47 from key sites. This would be almost $60 even on key sites. And sorry to say, I have to go by dollars to hours these days. DOOM is always a short game. I had way less issue paying $40 for Microsoft's very own Oblivion release because I can put hundreds into it.
These are my opinions based on my observations. I might be misinterpreting shit or being a flat out retard, but I'm just telling you why I didn't buy it.
