This is Kris in the weird route

Kris is actually a Flowey like entity who had their soul stolen and is now running purely on DETERMINATION, trying over and over to recover their soul and save the world.

Eventually Gaster intervenes, intending to create a vessel with >(you)r soul to try to lend a hand or at least see what happens

Kris intervenes, taking your soul unto themselves despite the heightened Risk since they need a soul to properly harness their determination and keep them as more than a barely functioning husk at this point. They have no idea if you're going to help them save the world or if you're a total fucking murder hobo who is going to make things even worse.

Pacifist mode has your soul and Kris gradually warm up to eachother, with Kris eventually trusting you enough to communicate with you in more ways than just ripping you out of their body.

At the end of chapter 6 Kris manages to recover their original soul and prevent the Roaring where the mastermind used Noelle as a puppet to bring it about, however they simply pivot and steal your soul and Kris' body/determination to use that as their angel instead.

An echo of your determination remains in the vessel you created however, and with Kris's soul implanted in it you're able to maintain your presence in the world and continue with the roles reversed and Kris mostly having control. Since you're both pretty much entirely in sync at this isn't too much of a problem outside of some amusing hi jinks.

During the final boss battle they manage to catch you off guard at the last moment and steal Kris's soul as well, leaving you as a sluggish vessel entirely unable to defend yourself. As you're getting your ass handed to you and the last of your determination is waning All of the monsters of the light world and dark worlds lend you their souls, being roughly the equivalent of two human souls in power and evening the score.

It's an unreleased song Toby made in 2011, around the same time he first had the fever dream that would eventually result in Deltarune.

Kris asking Toriel when their horns would grow in implies that they were adopted when they were very young and didn't understand that they were a human and different from everybody else.
It wouldn't really make sense if they knew their human mother before her. Kris was almost certainly significantly younger than Chara when they joined the Dreemurr family, which seems to line up with them being several years younger than Asriel in Deltarune.

All I'm saying is if Kris was old enough to remember their human mother it wouldn't really make sense for them to accept and identify with their new family so easily. If they could remember a time when they were familiar with humans, they would see monsters as unfamiliar and strange, monstrous. But they don't, it's the actually the opposite - humans are strange and unfamiliar to them. That is what the game has told us, for now.

Okay well I don't really think that's true. Ralsei and Kris are nothing alike. Maybe Kris used to be a sweeter innocent kid but that's pure speculation, and we know they were already terrorizing Noelle when she was small and Dess was still around.

But it would make complete sense for them to have problems with their human identity if they had gone through some kind of tragedy with their family or humans in general such as, for example, being separated from their birth family and then living with monsters.

The fear of this has stopped me from actually consuming deltarune directly. Until I know if it has a bad ending or a good ending I will only look at it I directly through posts and art and short video. Like fighting Medusa but the Medusa is emotional investment.

Their identity issue can be more simply explained by the fact that they are irreconcilably different from their family and everyone they've ever known. Their family loves them and they seem to have a decent life in Hometown, but the fact that people know them as "the human who lives at the top of town" will never change.
In Undertale Chara was said to have hated humanity, for reasons never made clear. I think it's better and more fitting for Kris not to direct his loathing outward but inward - there's no conflict between humans and monsters in Deltarune (that we know of), Kris's own troubles and insecurities are much more interesting.
