I think their trick was to make every character likable und their motives understandable. You can think Maelle is in the wrong for wanting to flee into a fantasy world instead of facing her real life issues. HOWEVER, you get where she's coming from. She lived with these people for half of her life. She has friends and people in the painting that don't blame her for her brother's death.
You can hate Verso for being a lying prick but you get where he's coming from, too. He sees his family suffering due to the painting and he just wants to end it. And to him, the people in the painting aren't real. They are constructs.
Next to the music, the writing is definitely this game's strong suit.

Story's shit but the game is great otherwise. 7/10 for the story after Act 2. 10/10 for everything else. 11/10 for the music.

Yes. There is a picto which disables AP gain on parry, but adds AP gain on getting hit. So you can easily just keep dodging (bigger window) and get AP if you fail. Also a fuckton of defensive options.

I was playing on expert and ended up the game with 40 health on my 3 main party members 99 on both scaling stats and then the rest on might, skipped luck since i had a lot of crit % from the lumina board (extra crit to burning, extra crit to defenceless blablabla). Finished at level 91.
Then for pictos i would just equip the expensive shit i wanted from the lumina board instead of putting even a good hp picto so i ended up having 3-4k hp. But with shields and not being super bad at the game i was managing.
Which was fine and dandy against almost everything (painted pain included) until Simon.

Why the fuck there are so many weapons and pictos? Literally 99% of all items are pure trash, evey character has 1 or 2 usabled weapons per act and the rest is absolute irredeemable trash. Also, by act 3 I had so many pictos I gave up and kept using the old ones because rearranging everything every time a new one popped up was just too much work.

But yeah you aint just stopping after every picto and after every couple lumina

So you can experiment with wacky builds based around status effects by shooting or reviving at the beginning of combat or applying buffs by healing by purposefully starting combat with low HP or solo runs or whatever else you fancy. You can tell the devs were fans of FFVIII and how utterly broken you can make your party members in that game.

I think I rotated between 3 weapons on each character when I was at the endgame/Simon. Especially when I had to abandon my shields+shield buffs build for him.

I got so infuritated by the Painted Verso being such a piece of shit that I forgot at times that the Painter Verso sacrificed himself. However would the Painter Verso have liked Alicia to make her own choice, or would he have wanted her to become what he wanted her to be? I also can't just part with everyone, Lune and Sciel and the Gestrals are all still themselves, they didn't get erased. Also just because the Gestrals resurrect it doesn't make the new versions fake. The people of Lumiere can come back as well and be left to live their lives happily, with only Lune and Sciel knowing what happened.

I used Brulerum instead of Medalum. Never used Medalum.
I did use Maelle at the arena and did get Medalum after the arena. But I used Brulerum to win and I kept using Brulerum. I even used Brulerum for the abyss boss, tower trials, and flying manor.
I think Brulerum is great.

Medalum let's you start in Virtuous. Which is cool and all. But that's only a turn1 advantage. Why are people treating it like the best weapon ever or something?
