In the first game you leveled them in groups because you had to distribute stats and pay to respec. So when you leveled mage you should also be leveling alchemist since they both want intelligence. But it looks like stats are gone so you can just do what you want. You will still need to do multiple jobs at a time since you will need to gather materials to craft gear for your combat jobs which will help you get other material.

They massively increased the scale of the game when they got rid of Inafune. Originally it wasn't going to have an open world or any kind of movement options like wall climbing.

There's two worlds. The present world which is a bunch of islands and where you build your town and the past which is a giant open world continent. There's also something called the depths but nobody knows what it actually is.

I'm pretty sure you could just stick with one job in the original game, but it's really built around switching around jobs. For example you switch to to the miner job to get ore for the blacksmith job, and then you use the weapons you make as a blacksmith with whichever combat job you prefer. It's not really a game focused on roleplaying as one specific job, but each one has it's own little campaign tied to it that's separate from the main story. They might have changed things in the new game though.

The original didn't have romance, and this game borrows from its predecessor on the 3ds and Animal Crossing, not Harvest Moon.

It was never going to have romance

compared to 2, the story and gameplay are very simplistic. you arrive on an island where you meet an NPC, you save them and more NPCs start showing up with more tasks. Do enough tasks and you can build a teleporter where theres more tasks, do that 3 times and you fight a really easy boss (who has their own out of place grid you fight on around your base so that the environment doesnt affect it); then warp to a different place and start the process over again from square one. it gets repetitive
There is very little overarching story, no partner, less utility variety, much smaller town area, no building landmarks or anything, very little exploration as the islands are pretty small and linear, and the gameplay doesnt really change from the formula from the first level which mostly just "fetch this, build this".

I remember liking it when i first played it, but builders 2 is so much better that when i tried to replay it afterwards, it was pretty underwhelming

I'm just doing a quick check on my steamdeck for now cause I'm gonna play it on PC until bedtime, then switch to Steamdeck, so you can probably tweak the settings a lot.

Playing on GE-Proton-9, defaults to medium settings with mostly locked 60fps (just some fps drops when menu transitions), some details on low, but looks good. make sure to turn off the motion blur. About 3-3.5 hours on battery (I have an oled). Probably possible to set it 40-45fps to crank up the settings more/extend battery life. Overall pretty great first impression kind of want to just crawl into bed right now

Not quite, you have to learn the job to aquire the gathering talent, after that your character can always gather it, ideally you'd pick up all the gathering jobs first

You can just find an item like the dress later then. It's not a particularly unique dress. Alternatively you can not use it until you complete a self imposed goal and pretend you found it.

After you get one job to fledgling you can use the job menu to fast travel back to the trainer when you are doing your other job starting quests instead of needing to run from the capital back to the starting town each time.

There's also a visual slot you can fill that overrides how your character appears
