Why Deck flop?
Why Deck flop?
GPD Win 4 is superior
it didn’t flop as badly as this thread
lmao gottem
We're waiting on the Epic Handheld to come and kick Gaben's old fat ass right in the crack!
- Lawrence
nigga it sold fewer units than the N-Gage
dropped my deck a while back from no more than 4 feet onto a carpeted floor
managed to fuck up the left bumper completely and would need to open it up to replace it
deck is fragile as shit. a switch would've survived a much tougher fall
Because they built like 5 of them
The switches inside the bumpers break if you look at them wrong. I'm in the Deck discord (avoid at all costs) and see it a lot.
Supposedly it's better in the OLED model, but idk
Same reason why the switch flopped.
Because no one optimizes games anymore, and everyone just relies on fucking AI shit to upscale, which the deck doesn't have that much in terms of cores to support that stuff, so every new game that comes out is completely unplayable. And even when it was new, games coming out around the same time were not exactly running full speed.
It's an emulation machine, a laptop replacement, and it plays a solid number of pre-2020 titles, which is fine for most people.
The bigger issue for me is that it uses linux, and the very few live service games I play? NONE of them support linux, and their anticheats preclude proton, so it's worthless for me without installing windows. I did, and it works just dandy, but it's a bunch of extra steps and shit that ideally I wouldn't have to do.
Missing major titles like cawadoody and (less so nowadays) destiny are pretty big blows to it's viability as a platform.
But, for the price, the deck is pretty solid choice if you just want a computer-styled thing.
You know the older GDP Win that was shaped like the laptop is pretty cool, are cheaper used and can play elden ring. Too bad the fat tranny on Anon Babble ruined those things for me with his 'maid computer' spam, at least he was shilling the PSP like one and not the one I want.
I'm in the market for a laptop/handheld for work/gaming
those are the GPD pocket.
gpd win have always been the handheld gaming systems.
pocket are the mini-laptops.
oh also the win mini 2025 is in prepro right now, it's similar formfactor, but just like the win3, pocket 5, pocket 4, and win max 2 it's using the SAME FUCKING CHIPSET AGAIN.
Check this one out, it might not be the same but whatever: youtube.com
Because a laptops exists.
It didn't flop, but they greatly underestimated demand and it was a bitch to get for a long time. I know there were issues with production for everybody at the time, but still.
I got second thoughts after realizing the folding screen is more moving parts and the gripping a square seems awkward, I already have a steam deck that's good but it has to be repaired. Also I never got a good close-up of the thumb sticks and I like the rubber grips like kontrolfreek. My 'eck stock thumbsticks are shit and I'm making some custom ones out of sandpaper for better grips that I will use later.
Forgot to mention I'm on a budget and wanna spend $300-$500 and that looks expensive.
The 'eck and all these handhelds are laptops, with the screen reversed, folded
and a gaming controller cut it half and glued to the side instead of having a keyboard.
Paraphore thread?
Look at all these handhelds coming out like the rog ally, legion go, msi claw, etc. There's dozens of these things now when they used to be limited to a couple niche options, yeah it didn't sell 6 gorillion but it layed the groundwork for the handheld trend. Also the steam deck isn't marketed towards children like the switch and main majority of 'eck owners are between the age gap of teenager to boomer.
I'd still like something portable I can put in a big-medium fanny pack
Click best sellers in the steam client, The deck is on the top mark full time, How bad are games selling they can't out do this????
I don't know if you've noticed, but $400 is significantly more than $50, $60, $70, or even $80. 1 deck sold is 5-8 games that have to sell, off-sale, to get above it.
Which is why typically only new highly popular games, or shit on deep deep discount get above it.
Doesn't mean the deck is selling well, just that games are comparatively not.
Only sold on Steam.
My local electronics retailers sell steam deck through their store-front though? Might be an Europoor thing though.
yeah, they're only sold secondhand in the states at physical locations, for firsthand sales, steam only.
europe and asia are sold through partner distributors (komodo does japan, china, australia, and lots of SEA), and those include some storefronts.
Should have learned from the WiiU that barely anybody wants to hold a a thing of that size to play games.
Might be an Europoor thing though
In Game spain you can buy it, also the Ally
Too underpowered and too bad of a screen. A terrible horrific 60% SRGB screen with ghosting for a $400+ console? LMAO. What were they even thinking?
Even the original switch had a 100% SRGB IPS panel...They should have just released the OLED from the beginning. One price $549.99, 512GB, OLED, Done. No retarded EMMC option, No screen glare options.
The deck OLED came out far too late and it's far too expensive for its performance at $600, regardless of its amazing screen.
You can shill the narrative of
muh battery life muh its designed to be low powered
shit all you want but the reality is most people will buy hooked up by usb C whether its in a car, in bed or on a plane. On the train even they got chargers now and people will just play more indie games and lighter titles there and play their heaviest games in bed or on road trips.
It's retarded that the switch 2 doesn't come with OLED. I was going to buy a switch 2 too until I heard of the game key carts and no OLED.
ROG ally has no trackpad and all the other handhelds are pretty much garbage. Trackpad and a fast processor are a must for a good handheld.
When a company makes an 800p OLED handheld with trackpads, a much faster processor than the ROG ally then I will buy. I sold my deck OLED like 3 months ago and got an xbox series X. I don't regret my decision
It was made to capitalize on the switch market but it simply does a terrible job at everything
too weak to run modern pc games so it's basically only used to emulate old games
too expensive compared to other handhelds made to emulate old games
too bulky to be a comfortable handheld
amd so no dlss
linux so a lot of games don't work or require manual fixes
the concept has potential but the steam deck is executed wrong and it needs to make multiple changes to become successful
trackpad
see I don't get this
most people I have seen with decks or tried to let use my deck HATE the trackpad, and I barely use it at all myself, it's just a weird addition that serves no purpose because it has a fucking touch screen.
Why does it matter?
They never said anything like that on any of those handhelds. They just made their own consoles not to compete with nintendo but to have their own platform where they can release their games without having to pay up the ass to Nintendo for release rights. They never had the same user bases either. PSP was popular in Japan for example because of the visual novels released on it and Monster Hunter community playing on that because Nintendo didn't have such games for its handheld.
the psp was a great console indeed, that one was just overshadowed by the ds' massive success
everything else on that image flopped tho
I love the trackpad tho
True, PSP was also great for emulating after support for it was ran through the dirt.
Have exclusive games on your console.
Make the thing function.
You win the markets.
Too bad they are trying so hard to not have games on their console these days.
My pawnshop had an OLED for $600, I don't know the condition or storage, hell I don't even know if someone bought it already or if it works. Best buy and Walmart has them now, there's a ton of steam decks and copies like the ally on the used market.
It's because joysticks don't have as much precision as a mouse for shooters like cs1.6 or TF2. You're also supposed to turn trackball mode off for precise aiming
Show me a $300 gaming laptop with specs better or just as good as a LCD steam deck
FUCK THE SWITCH!
Was talking about brand new ones, those same places also sell Switch 2.
deck is $550
Nta but I hardly touched those besides on the internet browser, how did you use them?
Mine was used with same day delivery for
$300 ; 256gb and he forgot he had a 512gb SD card
Unfortunately its out of warranty
Not him but I know there are several lenovo legion laptops with 100% SRGB 144hz screens and have decent specs. I bought one and I still regret selling it to this day it was the 1660ti mobile/4800H ryzen. They discontinued it but you can find them on ebay now for under $500.
The colors were 100% SRGB really accurate and saturated on that thing it was 380 nits. It could play halo infinite at 1080p medium settings 100% resolution scale at 80-90fps.
Honestly if I had $300 doe, I wouldn't even buy a deck LCD because the screen is just that bad to look at, it's atrocious. I'd buy an xbox series S for $200 used on ebay and a $100 144hz pixio 100% SRGB monitor if I needed a gaming device.
i wanna put my 'ick on that 'eck
I was thinking about swapping jobs to something where I would be on the road more, and I would just get a laptop. I'm not sure when I would consider a handheld.
If the Z1 extreme ally had an 800P screen instead of a 1080p one it would be the best handheld that you could buy right now. 1080p is overkill for an "8 display.
If you're a on the road trucker like 18 wheeler it's pretty common for those guys to have xbox like the series S or X in their truck cabins or consoles in general.
kinda sucks the handheld market is stagnating but I guess they are just designing new consoles with AMD's new APU AI max chips whatever the fuck they are called.
I'm not buying another handheld until it has OLED and can run triple A at 60fps.
Valve says that their product is the best selling shit ever SAAR
Valve wouldn't lie SAAR!
It wasn't meant to be a big new console, it's a compact little novelty and sold more than expected.
uhm acktually we didn't expect this product we shilled like crazy!
Valve probably spent more money hiring Indians to shill it daily here on Anon Babble than they made selling it.
Why dick flop?
They were entering the pc pre-built market mot the consple market evoking jeets doesn't change this.
The Deck didn't flop, but something sure did flop onto the Deck
I've never seen those indian shill threads. Anyway, I've seen more Chinese shills for Palworld, Wukong and Exp 33.
I'm going to get a Steam Deck OLED instead of the Switch 2
If the deck just used, if it JUST used a 100% SRGB IPS screen that was actually good quality it would still be relevant and have staying power and i'd probably still own my deck LCD.
Now its just a poor mans aya neo or gpd win for some normie who doesn't know any better and destined to be ewaste. The whole surprise OLED reveal was scummy even for valve with its history of microtransactions and skin gambling shit.
nta, but i saw plenty of steam deck threads made by shills too
three anti Steam threads up at the moment
I see the jeets have woken up.
who the fuck counts threads that hate on a specific thing? the board is naturally full of hate but somehow steam's needs to be counted?
Good morning sir.
more like the steam shills reared their ugly heads again
Anon there's been like a daily deck thread on Anon Babble ever since it came out, they even do stuff like directly link to reddit and it was revealed on of the posters was a reddit mod on the deck reddit sub.
Some thing on the Internet, you can't go 5min without someone going "Is this game good to play on Deck saar?" and have replies like "Yes very good saar, I have deck and love deck run very good saar!"" for like every single game despite the fact the deck sold like this.
you're in for a lot of regret
