Why are gamers so resistant to the idea of modern fantasy?

Why are gamers so resistant to the idea of modern fantasy?

people want to pretend they're actually fighting wars against countries they hate

because studios still haven't figured out that fantasy =/= reality

Because the kinds of people that buy Battlefield and Cod don't want to play as anything other than Americans

Military games like Call of Duty and Battlefield are literal propaganda tools for the US DoD

Because that just involves adding a bunch of goofy nonsensical bullshit

am i just having a stroke or is this word soup

wasn't there a schizo conspiracy theory (this means it's real btw) saying that military shooters were a propaganda took used by the us state department to get brownpipo to enlist and go die for israel?

ea says it's time to make new bf title

dice devs say awesome, can we try a cold war setting?

maybe a bad company prequel in the 1980s?

ea says no

marketing told us a modern day setting is the safest bet

Because "modern fantasy" in the west are disabled trannies that are somehow super soldiers

Metal Gear Solid is the most fun kind of military fiction, alt-reality deep state shit with high tech and supernatural elements.

setting everything on earth between the same 2 factions makes re-using assets easier

Are you sure that they're resistant to the idea? Has anyone tried offering it to them?
Pump it full of hyper-jingoistic propaganda for each fictional country for maximum online engagement come on it's free advertising.

Ace Combat's strangereal is fucking kino.
Everything else is just boring as fuck US vc Russia, China Terrorists

how is that even remotely a schizo theory kek, the military's involvement in shit like Call of Duty is extremely well documented, yes its propaganda duh

Funny enough, BF4 has a texture that uses a part of a map of Strangereal.

totally-not-russia vs. totally-not-america

What's the point then? Might as well use real countries and real Earth.

Belka is not-Germany though.

It's no conspiracy, Cod singleplayer is literally made in collaboration with the US government. in MW2019 they took the bombing of the Highway of Death (a real warcrime the US committed during the gulf war) and rewrote it to be done by Russians lmao

hmm, how should we call our fictional version of germany?

oh, "squirrel" in russian is "belka"? fuck, that'll do

Incredible world building.

totally-not-russia vs. totally-not-america

not totally-not-ancient-china-with-modern-weapons vs. totally-not-britain vs. totally-not-wakanda

HoD wasn't a war crime IRL. You have to lose a war to be convicted of war crimes as they are just excuses to punish losers.

>not totally-not-ancient-china-with-modern-weapons vs. totally-not-britain vs. totally-not-wakanda

You know better than I do that it won't be "rome vs. carthage but with modern technology" type deal. It will just be "not russia vs not america" because that's how creative modern devs are.

How about they join the military so they can actually do that.

Why do retards like you conflate what studios do with what "gamers" want?

Call of Duty and Battlefield are literal propaganda tools for the US DoD

my brother in christ it worked, triple the defense budget.

Why are shareholders so resistant to the idea of modern fantasy?

There. Fixed that for you.

Urban fantasy is pretty cool yeah.

Gallia forever

That's not a conspiracy lmao the military actively worked with the CoD devs to make the military look cool.

rome vs. carthage

Fuck that noise, make it Rome vs Persia

Can't blame them, as long as retarded nigger cattle like and remain the target audience

people want to pretend they're actually fighting wars against countries they hate

Then how come we still haven't gotten a single modern military videogame about india v pakistan?

HEAR ME OUT, DICE

just joining the military doesnt mean i get to go to war against kosovo

i think it's the shaped pieces of lead flying around at 3000 feet per second

i fucking love armored core

dying for your government

You must have some amazing politicians that you are willing to defend them with your life.

cross universe fights

Send the spooky boys out to the front

Based recrooter putting in the work

I'm not, I getting tired of their shit taste ruining the potential of video games. Realism was a mistake.

isnt apex considerably successful

If someone likes military aesthetics and weapons then they generally care about them in the context of when said weapons were used.
For example if someone wants to see a M113 APC in a game about war, then they want to see the M113 APC used in a realistic/historical conflict.
To create fantasy conflicts and scenarios that are not based in IRL geopolitics historical or not is to deny a big part of the fantasy which is being a cool army dude to which "realism" bromides verisimilitude.

If your not using modern military weaponry and conflicts then people pivot to scifi which provides numerous options and is a whole other ballgame.

Realism was a mistake.

Always has been

2142 was the best battlefield or maybe bad company 2.

These game cater to americans and america has no creativity left.

I just want a modern shooter with the JGSDF (never ever everything is owned by tencent)

Smell technology is not advanced enough

Americans must be most guilible people on earth lmao, using this type of media to recruit is not a conspiracy dude

Sounds low IQ to me.

That's straight up scifi with mechs and spaceships and cyborgs and aliens n shit

glorifying one side in an ongoing conflict

I see nothing wrong with this. One hamas protag call of duty plot please, plot twist he's a mossad double agent who pushes the final nuke button at the end to glass the entire region. Coming Fall 2025.

Knights of Al-Aqsa but you're actually an Agarthian SS soldier going deep undercover, I'd play it.

That's straight up scifi with mechs and spaceships and cyborgs and aliens n shit

Sci-fi is a genre of fantasy.

Are they using real fake guns in battlefield those days? If so then yes they should just make the transition.

I’m working on a game based in an AU setting where the Soviet Union never fell and the Japanese Empire rebranded itself and continued on in some capacity. No reason you can’t play around a bit, it’s a game.

No you see this is my OC (original country) called belgoria and they use these cool unseen before armaments such as the abams tank and the 74-ka
