cleared out Springvale school

found a shack with a woman who asked if I was sent by "Moriarty". Didn't know who that was at the time so I just speech checked her to get her caps and promise to tell Moriarty she was gone.

Head to Megaton.

Go to saloon and talk to everyone in the bar.

Approached by Burke about blowing up Megaton. I disagree and he tells me to come back if I change my mind. Yeah right.

Be nice to Gob but fail speech check

use ladykiller perk on the whore and figure out everything I need to know is on Moriartys terminal and she gives me the password.

Talk to Moriarty, that Mick bastard wants caps for info. Tell him to go fuck himself.

Hack his terminal and find out I need to head to the radio station.

Get distracted by sidequests.

Disarm the Megaton bomb. (Couldn't find Burke after)

Get house that I desperately need.

Fix the water pipes in Megaton

Get Leo off drugs and get his stash.

Start Lucys quest to deliver message in Arefu

Fucking bullshit, her family is dead and the best that the "Sheriff" can tell me is the Family gang is somewhere North or Northeast.

Find kid saying his town is being attacked by monsters

Its fucking full of fire ants and they absolutely fuck me up

I kill the ants in the town and figure out their hive is in the local metro.

Head to the metro and get obliterated

Head back to Megaton to re-up on meds

Just warning you, the ant quest and survival guide quests are the worst quests in the game. It's better to just skip that shit and come back later.

If you evee hear a mysterious big explosion while wandering around make sure to check the area for the alien blaster & its ammo.

Fallout 3 is one of the best games in the series

pro-tip if you've got the DLC, try to work out how to activate the Mothership Zeta one before level 9-10 due to level scaling being a bitch in that one. Also uber uber super duper pro-tip: the game will throw bullet sponges at you, lower the fucking difficulty. And the mega, super duper mega protip of your life: Fallout 3 is really fucking fun. And the chinese stealth armor is broken as fuck along with the gauss gun. Also do the fucking Wasteland Survival quest, all the way, make Moira happy. She is, the best fucking wifu in any game. And if you blow up Megaton you are a fucking faggot and don't get much tbqh gameplay wise compared to defusing it.

I didn't blow up Megaton. I tried to turn Burke in but got Simms killed. Had to load the game again.

I wouldn't recommend lowering the difficulty because thats basically the only thing that gatekeeps areas in the game & it'd throw off the leveling curve to becoming an unstoppable terminator which feels satisfying. The quest structure is retarded for sending low level players to fight extremely dangerous areas full of the most dangerous & spongy enemy types.

Blowing up Megaton is super fun, doofus. You also get a really great reward: a penthouse and vendors barter at 1:1 prices. I would argue that blowing up Megaton was the most fun I have ever had in any video game.

Are you on PC or console? And if on console. what console and what DLC do you have

You can save him & he actually has dialog about it. Little shit like that is completely missing in 4 & is out of character for bethesda generally, them plagiarizing the original games had its upsides. They'll never put that much effort into accounting for player choices ever again.

In that case the simple rule applies
Keep rotating save slots
Keep 4-5 saves and roate them every 30 mins because it's glitchy as fuck, not as bad as New Vegas when it crashes but some quests might hit or miss

Ideally you'd have the intelligence to save before doing specific quest things, like the megaton bomb quest

I tried to kill Burke after the fact but he just ate a bunch of the bullets and then the bar turned on me. I figured I'm not strong enough or fast enough to kill him before he kills Simms.

Is this or any of the modpacks for 3/NV/4 worth playing?

Fallout 3 doesn't have any save problems like New Vegas on PC does. Fallout 3's only tech issue is if enter every building, the loading screens get longer and longer.

I would avoid mod packs. First, play the game on vanilla. Then come back and mod it. You can use a mod pack to pick and choose what you like and dislike. Generally, downloading someone else's tastes is a bad idea since their tastes are typically transexual.

For the dlcs yeah that makes sense especially at a lower level. However I do think point lookout should be played organically at a high level since the enemies are explicitly designed with you being high level & kitted out with the best gear.

New vegas at least gives you options to mention that you've been places. If you go to rivet city before 3dog you have to ask him where is river city

Its a bitch, you have like a split second window to kill him & you basically need something ridiculously powerful like the terrible shotgun in vats to stun him with the first shot to interrupt his animation or lower the shit out of the difficulty when you do it.
It is funny that they went out of their way to put that dialog in but didn't bother to let you kill burke for murdering the town sheriff. Wonder if that's a bug, given its bethesda it could go either way on that.

I always play the game vanilla first. I wanted to download a mod for 4 (detailed dialogue text decisions) but that would have turned off the achievements.
