Instead of trying to deliver a better gameplay experience every single other contender during that era tried anything but which is why all of them are forgotten nowadays for exception of a few one offs while rockstar only grew and perfected their craft, they even made gta games for the fucking psp.

during the 7th gen with the release of gta4 people were still craving for a more arcade kind of game so saints row was able to carve a space for itself with the first 2 games. Too bad they were retarded enough to double down on the comedic aspect and ruin the series for everyone.

After GTA5 everyone simply stopped trying because the series was the go to for what it created and developers started chasing other trends that were much easier to do, like battle royale games or mobile gacha garbage.

I think this game hit the mark really well. Saints Row the Third is still one of my favorite one of these games. I think they just failed to "reign it in" after this though. They went too far after SR3. SR3 was a silly parody of the crime world, but in SR4 they did the alien invasion plot and they kind of lost themselves in the sauce. That's the kind of shit you do in a wacky DLC.

If they went back and did a game similar to SR3, I think this series could still be popular. Even an online mode similar to GTAV would be fun as hell.
