Hours are literally irrelevant, you should be using steps.
And yes, Claude Jr did it in less steps and this Claude has wasted quite a few steps, but he is still incredibly ahead of the previous Claudes who were just now getting out of Mt. Moon at the same step count. "hours" are an abstraction in this case because Opus 4.0 takes longer in real-time per step compared to Sonnet 3.7, for a number of reasons, one of which being the model released a week ago and it's strained to hell in back, but also it's just more compute heavy in general.

Like when indian hours start up and prompts slow down to a screeching halt (like one movement per 20 minutes), do we factor that into the time as well? What about when Claude runs out of tokens and stares at a patch of flowers for 12 hours? This is why hours are an extremely unreliable measurement. This Claude hasn't even hit 24K steps.

How long until this Claude gets Old Yeller'd? How long did it take for the previous Claudes once they got stuck in a loop?

1. This Claude can't look up anything online. Anthropic does offer web search as a tool that LLMs can call to find relevant information, but this run is based solely on what the LLM knows from its original training, with no external inputs other than pictures of the game state. Which is what another anon said earlier: there are tons of guides that say 'use cut to get into Lt. Surge's gym' but basically none that say to do the same thing to get out of the gym, too.

2. It doesn't necessarily know that. It might reason itself into concluding that, but every time its context clears, it essentially loses the memory of coming to that conclusion, and it won't remember it beyond context clears unless it commits that detail to its permanent memory file.

3. Its vision system has a lot of trouble finding the difference between cuttable trees and non-cuttable trees, and its navigation system, which differentiates between navigable and non-navigable tiles, doesn't mark non-navigable tiles that can be interacted with to make them navigable, like trees and boulders.

He was left to his devices for 2 months in the mt moon loop and only euthanized when a new Claude model came out. He's safe for now.

Seems to me that these LLMs having no foresight is a massive weakness. Even a child can see that being able to recognize a cuttable tree will prove important and will have enough common sense to bear it in mind to anticipate them appearing again in the future, from what I can tell Claude doesn't have that kind of reasoning to know it should retain that kind of information as indefinitely important.
