All the emulators in one place

all the emulators in one place

The ugliest most convuluted UI known to man

Why are they like this

People STILL use KEKroSHARTch? Instead of using the emulators separately with their own folders?

you can literally change it to xmb, yet you decide to start a whole thread.

consoletard UI on PC software

No thanks. I'll stick with standalone emulators.

b-b-b-but you can change th-

Don't care. I'll stick with standalone emulators.

It’s primarily designed to be portable to consoles so the ui is designed for controller navigation

Retroarch is a product of continually bolting shit on top of other shit for 20 years.

ES-DE frontend, retroarch backend

es-de.org/

Opensource culture.
If you're not spending a week editing a sed awk script in vi to load up a single rom file through a specific console library for one of twenty audio APIs on linux by hand they think you're wasting away your life... so bad UI is their compromise to say "see, I told you UI is worse!" effectively making bad software as a strawman for why other people should have nothing better to do.

you play console emulation with a keyboard?

I gave it an honest shot and I don't fucking understand what the hype is. This thing was shilled so fucking hard for the steam deck, but it is easily one of the worst user interfaces I ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Standalone emulators work perfectly fine

On a semi-unrelated note. I set up NES and SNES cores on my Analogue Pocket and that shit is straight up cash money yo. Played through Megaman X in one sitting the other day Fuck that game, but also I had fun I guess. Also have a GB-X7 and GBA Mini Everdrives coming in on Monday. I'm going to sink into nostalgia and I don't know when I'm coming back bros.

I'd happily take suggestions for NES/SNES/GB/GBC/GBA games. Hidden gems would be greatly appreciated

all the emulators in one place

Being on my computer is still "one place"
so standalones already do that and have a tolerable UI.

More like ex-De, am I right fellas?

another filtered zoomer

Nobody likes the shitty ui

Works for me

I use retroarch solely for not having any input lag

anyone whining about the UI sucks gorilla dicks

you just don't like it because it's repulsive

"Filtered" is the funniest cope ever.

Autism.

Autists are incapable of creating a good UI. Just take a look at GIMP.

i think the ui is alright but i wished there were more ways to customize it

b-but its for console gamers

as if people used to console formats even know how to navigate the clusterfuck UI retroarch has.
everything's arbitrarily hidden in different tabs when on the standalone emulators themselves its 2-3 clicks MAX to get the setting you want changed.
picrel is all you need. simple, efficient and easily digestible

Retroarch is great for anything below PS1, but worthless beyond it.

I tried playing GT5 on RPCS3 but it would crash sometimes making me lose all my progress in longer cups, shit sucks.

ps3 and xbox 360 emulators are still in that spot where they kinda work but your game can shit itself and die any second

Works for me.
I installed it, checked the best Cores online for the systems I want and Downloaded them. Changed the UI (there's a shit ton of customization) to how I like it. Set some custom backgrounds and import boxart automatically.
Set my controls with one profile, works for every emulator.
Set my universal CRT filter, looks money on every system I play.

Yup. It's time for some gaming lads.

not being a 200IQ engineer that instinctively knows which menu every option is, despite the fact you're using retroarch for the first time ever

lol lmao

Man, it's so pleasurable reading these threads and laughing at how retarded you are. Retroarch's UI is easy as fuck to navigate, you guys are just sub 80 iq'd retards. Glad I gave up individual emulators, minus the few that don't have decent cores. Keep coping and crying, shitters.

I got through Ninja Gaiden 2, AC4 and ACFA without too much trouble on Xenia. As long as you check the wiki and have the right settings/hacks it should be fine.

RetroArch but 20x easier to use and less demanding to boot

Mac exclusive

why

Its designed to work on any platform. A keyword search function would fix a lot of the clutter IMO.

works fine on my Mac ;)

I have brain retardation and I sperg the fuck out if not using "standalone emulators" (complete nonsense term)

Use Mednafen

I'm definitely too cool to use a CONSOLE ui for games you play with a controller

Still use Mednafen, launching games via the terminal is the most PC user you can be

But I wanna

Libretro cores ARE that standalone emulator, that's the whole point you're using the same emulator.
This entire conversation is retarded, and Retroarch was never a frontend.
Now complain about a real issue like the documentation for Retroarch frontend drivers being shit and we ONLY get the singular good option of XMB and we don't get

Blades

A Wii menu driver for pointer and touch devices

Dreamcast themed menu driver

Gamecube themed menu driver

Random fucking PS1 Demo Disc with a really sick UI menu driver

Etc. and the BEST way to go about this shit is making an entirely separate libretro frontend altogether.

retroarch just has never played nice with my controller setup. windows bluetooth is hard enough getting working without the additional layers of retroarch you have to go through every time something breaks.

you have easy access to run ahead and every crt filter you could imagine packed in.no other front end really offers that.

Damn I've been coding this libretro frontend too long, and I'm tired

Retroarch was never a frontend

Retroarch has only been a frontend

Bluetooth

Unless you're sitting across the room from your PC I have honestly always found it easier to connect the controller directly with a USB cable. It's low tech but it works

PC ports will make emulation useless. Get ready for the future.

PC ports are generally much better than emulation but it's gonna be a while before it's a better solution altogether. There's just too many games to get through.

I use it purely because there are zero other options for decent filters and I'm too jewish to buy a crt

I unironically do not detect any difference with run ahead on or off, or with using Run Preemptive Frames on or off, except that if I set it to a high enough value my dude starts rubberbanding back in time as I move. I'm otherwise insanely anal about input latency in everything, I just genuinely think this doesn't do shit.

You ever play Final Fantasy Adventure? It's fun.

retroarch has the worst controller configuration I have ever seen, anywhere. why cant i just directly map the buttons to the controller? it makes you instead set the buttons to a weird retroarch gamepad thing then do it like that and its the clunkiest shit ive ever seen

It's one of the biggest drawbacks of Retroarch honestly. But once you configure everything and backup your configs you should never have to fuck with it again.

POV: you're an rgui user

You know the phrase "it just works"?
Setting up a new controller to retroarch is the exact opposite of that.

Isn't retroarch aimed at zoomers though? Boomers and millenials would rather just go standalone.

I agree but unfortunately I haven't been in charge of controller design for the last 15 years. a usb c charger cable isn't a substitute for the sturdy connection of a wired only controller.

Don't you mean your Machine?

Damnit! The spoilers didn't work.

imo the only issue I have with libretro input setup is that it

Names the buttons in the Nintendo convention despite the nintendo layout being retarded

Uses the fucked terminology of referring to the face buttons as "top bottom left and right" instead of the standard of referring to the face buttons as cardinals (N,S,W,E)

Defaults to the fucking Nintendo layout in the UI East to Confirm, South to Cancel/Go Back

Uses the correct standardized layout for every system BUT Nintendo ones eg: uses EAST for A and South for B in GB/C/A games

baldsville.jpg - 388x360, 38.67K

Wasting resources with UI

Just use command lines

The only issues I've ever had with Retroarch recognizing controllers automatically had to do with select and start being swapped on my arcade stick. Otherwise it's gravy. Even recognized and automatically configured my USB Genesis and PC Engine controllers

I just played through Magical Pop'n on SNES and had a great time. Clocked in at 90min or so, no save or password system but if you're emulating you can just suspend if you gotta

Also can't recommend Wild Guns enough, one of my favorite games of all time. Both of those are SNES games

The only retard here is you. Imagine having an issue with "top, bottom, left and right" or the Nintendo layout, which is what came first before Dreamcast's retardation. I have never in my life seen anyone use the cardinal directions for controller layouts beyond enormous faggot shit like your post.

Who fucking bitches about the defaults when it takes 3 seconds to fix in the menu lmao.

Chocolate milk!

You're calling two completely different sets of inputs "left and right" and I'M the retarded one?
Also

Dreamcast

Playstation

Xbox

Neo Geo

Etc.

All the same layout

Nintendo

Dipshit retard layout that technically only REALLY existed for the fucking SNES, DS, and Switch

Only other 4 Button controller the Gamecube which follows the standard for everything else but swaps East and West (x and b)

Your time has come to an end Carloso

They think it's funny to have you to map your SNES controller Y button to RetroPad X button then map that to Genesis core A button.

Uh some of us have lives
