Why all the whining about games going up in price?

Games have been extremely cheap for a long time, new games were 49.99 and then 59.99 for a very long time and many games you can play for months. 59.99 is basically a weeks worth of coffee.
Gamers are whiny.
If you actually like playing games, you can pay $80 for a new game.

pitchford.jpg - 551x625, 100.72K

I’m used to games being 59.99. They’re not 59.99 anymore so I’m going to pirate now. Im righteous in this too because the jews (demons wearing human skin) are getting richer but everyone else is not

Damn, why does he low key suddenly look cool as fuck????

There's literally nothing to justify the growing budgets of AAA slop when a random $15 indie game comes out and blows them the fuck out

Expedition 33 being 50 bucks really just dabbed on this

This argument has always been fallacious, especially since the value of video games has gone down. New games cost more AND have less content.

UGH, I KNOW, I KNOW, I'm just not going to buy them is all!

Nigga's dressed like he's gonna park my car

He's right. It also doesn't change anything about the complaint.

Prices have gone up
Quality has gone down

This is a free market, you are free to set a price and I a free to not buy your product.

but if not enough people buy them those games/franchises/companies will disappear!

then the demand wasn't strong enough.

AAA game quality has been going down for 10-15 years at the very least, increasing price while your product is the worst it's been in at least a decade makes no sense.

randy bitchford's dogshit argument would probably sound at least a little better if this dumb fuck wasn't worth several hundred millions

Fun fact about Randy Pitchford: not only is he an accomplished game developer and magician, he also helped develop the USB stick!

Google 'Randy Pitchford USB stick' to learn more.

borderlands 2: 28 million sales

borderlands 3: 22 million sales

Safe to say this will get +10m, but man, how is this franchise so big still?

because it constantly goes on sale

borderland 3 might have burnt a lot of good will though but who knows with the average cattle

If you actually like playing games, you can pay $80 for a new game.

Or I can just pirate or wait for sale
Everything got more expensive.

Every decent game this year was 50 or less

Fuck off, Randy.

Because there is no reason the consumers should pay for the financial fuck ups of the people who made the product or service.
Just because the industry decided to unreasonably bloat the budget and employee count doesn't mean It's my job to clean up their mess.

Games aren't made in an economic vacuum

because the market research says its okay chuds
so true sister!

That hair and glasses tell me his USB had more than we thought.

I still remember when he went on stage at the VGA's and was so embarrassed to say "fuck" he said "Motherflipping" instead. He's like a cringe uncle who owns his own ice cream shop.

It is true that games are due for a price increase and gaming as a hobby is extremely cheap compared to nearly everything else.
It is also true that I'm not paying fucking 80 bucks for borderlands when historically those things go for like 75% off in less than a year.

I'll never understand this whole

product fails

IT'S THE CONSUMER'S FAULT!!!! WE DID EVERYTHING RIGHT REEE

attitude, did they get scammed at the business school or something. How are they even allowed to screw up so often? In any other company you would get the boot at the slightest fuckup.

It's posturing. Admitting defeat ever is a sign of weakness and will get your ass booted faster than several strings of failures.

someone out there will blow 80 dollars on the absolute sloppiest of slop

does it get cringier than this?

livable wage

Careful now

lol i kinda lowkey want to fuck him now??? what the heck??

You can explain and chastise all you want but I'm not paying.

He's right and gamers are cheap niggers.
Being a borderlands fan is another issue

Buying games at full price? When BL3 is literally 90% off half the time? Why?

They made the budgets high for no reason.

He's dressed like a faggot.

it's like 3 months away and you can't save 80 dollarinos in that time? literally just walk around and you find dollar bills everywhere like bruh just steal some grandmas purse

It'll be 99 in no time, and he'll say the same excuse.

I will gladly pay $1000 for an arcade pcb, but I wouldn't spend even $40 on a new game

What a shit fucking argument. Games are going up in price because of arbitrary reasons by the publishers. If publishers want to publish cheaper games then they can create smaller teams or contract independent studios to make $30 games.

ITS MAAM

I only tried the 1st game out of curiosity and it wasn't very good just endless repetition without progress

Sounds like weak criticism. You can say that about every game ever made.

He's not wrong, people will buy it anyways. Especially Borderlands fans. I personally think you could make games $100 and it'd be fine. You can sit there and try to come up with all the arguments you want, but people are desperate for entertainment and will buy these games time and time again until the end of time because they're locked in forever the same way a Disney or Nintendo fan is locked in forever.

You really think the average person would do that? Just NOT play the new hot video game that just came out? People will think they're poor and tasteless and not cool. Of course they're gonna buy it or whatever.

If you had access to randy's home and every item in borderlands what would you do with them if you could only use them there

If you're posting on this website you have to be over 18. So you're too old for Randy.

KEK

I won't buy it. More people should be like me.

candy.jpg - 635x946, 73.29K

There's like 7 billion people in the world and less than 30 million will buy it. There are lots of people like you.

No games have been $70 with 30ish dollars of DLC for awhile. The complaint is actually games going from $100 to $110 but like who the fuck cares at that point just buy at a price drop.

didn't 3 sell way more than the most successful games release this year?

Probably but would love to see the full price sales vs all the discounts. Wonderlands for example was 3 euros for me when i already had BL3 and i think it was same the other way around too.

What if I don't drink coffee?

what was the most successful this year? MH Wilds? that was like 10 million so yeah, bl3 sold twice that

So he just secretly suggested to pirate it :) great guy!

You cant pirate stuff anymore, Denuvo has ended that, you have to wait months for Denuvo to get cracked.

You'll get away with charging multiplayer games that, but not single player games. And if the multiplayer is just tacked on then I will wait for a sale every time.

You're not fooling anyone Randy Bo Bandy

I think Randy the Dandy is very smart and handsome.

Image

I just thought, what if you are NOT a real fan? Like you have no experience with the series and would have to gamble $80 on a game you only may or may not like?

Realistically, how many new AAA releases does an average consumer buy in a year?
For me it's 0-2 max
That $80 standard price tag will make gamers more picky, unironically this has a potential of lowering the amount of slop that is being released each year. And then there are sales that happen pretty quickly after release these days

Every old white man with a full head of hair is cool because is rare

I'm not that young, I can buy new games (but don't want to because they are slop)

KEEP RANDY'S NAME OUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH!

33 has set the standard for games and price

shit game for shit price?

No need for a poor joke when i can just say you don't play games and be factually correct.

When I was a kid games were $100. Why is 70 or 80 suddenly a big deal? Is it because the internet is full of urpoors now?

59.99 is basically a weeks worth of coffee.

1kg of beans is like 13€ and lasts for at least a month

jackass thinks he wanted to get banned

are you a coffeefag? I kinda wanna get into it

I buy beans and grind them by hand because the grinder was cheaper than an electric one but that's the extent of it.

59.99 is basically a weeks worth of coffee.

where the fuck do you live that coffee costs $8.5?
Im fucking italian and 1 coffee is 1 euro, and even if you mean an american coffee(as much as we all agree american coffee is tens times worse than real coffee, some like it, so bars offer it as well), here it's 2 euro or 2.5 at most.

this, and that is if more than one person drinks a couple small cups per day.
and even if you buy the powder one which is pricier, it's still 5-6 euro per 250g, which will easily last 2 or even 3 weeks

People forget how expensive these little shit things where
A cartridge for the Atari 2600 would cost $140 in todays money and the game on it wasn't even good

It's no longer a niche hobby for computer nerds and the infrastructure for producing physical copies is much better and more efficient
However that doesn't matter, since it's all codes and digital downloads anyways so raising the price for games is extra fucking jewish

I actually kinda prefer digital, at least if it comes with no DRM so I'm able to make my own format of physical copy.

yes but a cartridge is not a folder of game files that can be copied infinately, the value is in that this is a physical piece of plastic with a circuit board in it that somebody had to make with an expensive machine by the thousands.

this
NES, SNES, N64, all of those cartridges where expensive as shit and kids during those days would rent their games or share them with the one friend with rich parents
It wasn't until PS1/PS2 vidya became more accessible

god i remember the blockbuster place and renting gamecube games in 2007

Down in quality
Up in price
Just like everything else

I remember GameFly, you could rent physical copies of games from them, through the mail.
Order what you want, get it in the mail a couple days later.
Pretty fuckin cool it was.

I wish I would have kept my Gamecube console and the few games I had for it. It was sooooo comfy.
Those were the greatest of days. Truly

this, theyll eventually put in on sale anyway.

Man those strawberry candies were the shit, whatever happened to those?

pay $80 for a new game

nah. most games aren't worth $50, let alone $80. a lot of good games have already been made, I'll play through those again before I shell out more money for shittier experiences. if they made better games then maybe, but that just isn't the case anymore.

remember when I was hyped everything was going digital and I didn't need to worry about scratching or breaking my discs and losing the game forever

tfw now we need to deal with cloud service providers having online always and snatching away our games if they feel like it

I'm eternally grateful for pirate sites and cracks

I remember being so happy when some games got patches so that they no longer required the CD to be in the drive in order to launch. Where did things go so awry.

i remember seeing the ads for it but never used it

vidya deserves to be 80 bucks

drop to 40 within a few weeks

Lel

Because the market decides not the producer.

The market has spoken, the quality of your product is poor and your price is high. Ergo, it shall not survive and only fools will buy it.

it shall not survive and only fools will buy it.

So it's going to be completely fine. Do you have any idea how many fools are out there?

Whining? I don't whine. I just don't buy new games at all. HAHAHHA.

Wants to be a magician

Dresses like a clown

Publishers are colluding to artificially maintain and raise the price of games.
If supply and demand were actually occurring games would be getting cheaper.
And don't tell me shit about inflation, inflation has different effects on different markets. You can't just apply it to everything and say "See, ackshually games should cost 200 dollars." That's not how it works.

Randy

cool

I wouldn't go that far

new games were 49.99 and then 59.99 for a very long time

How much when you factor in DLC?

Bro

Because wages have stagnated for virtually everyone but CEOs.

Not liking those remarks bro

yoo why he look like my 50 year old Jewish aunt? :Loudly Sobbing Emoji:

Shut the fuck up and buy it, idiot.

He looks like he guzzles cum. If that is your idea of cool, then perhaps you can take turns together, you worthless faggot.

cattle

This has never been true. Look at the absent sales numbers for all of the recent flops. Where is the supposed herd? Turns out you can lead a cow to slop, but you can't make him eat it. The latest cope is millions of "players", but not millions of "sales"

Games should be $80+ now!

Games aren't worth $80, let alone $60

WHY ARE YOU WHINING

I will not buy a game unless it is properly priced at $20 or lower.
There are thousands of games I already own or can get for very little money.
I have no interest in shiny new thing and will wait years until it drops to a reasonable price, or ignore and forget about it.

are you ripping on me for something anon

Yeah! He looks BAD ASS!

First he says man shit i cant do anything if the higher ups say its this price and then he says man if youre a real fan you would buy it its a classic 7 crack commandment tactic

Weird how everything is going up but wages.

If we raise the price

we can profit off fewer players

BRILLIANT!

These people are so far removed from reality it's not even funny

Cool it with the antisemitism

They probably did the math with way more thought and information put into the equation than you did, retard-bro.

no physical games, which removes all related costs

everything launches piece-meal, expecting you to pay even more over time to have the full product

required dev effort increasingly reduced by use of generative models and engines, which the users are also technically paying for with their ever newer and fancier systems

I expect games to launch for less today than they did 20 years ago. If you want to waste hundreds of millions on advertising when all you needed to do is make some posts on your official social media accounts for free along with a sizzle reel video, that's on you.
