I came in with low expectations and it has been a lot of fun. Way better than I was expecting. I've only been playing 1 character and I want to try the others. The map honestly feels a bit overwhelming. After 8 hours I feel like I understand like 50% of the map. I still have like 5 night lords to go.

My thoughts are that this is the feeling I was expecting from mon hun which is surprising. Everyone bitching about no voice chat and needing friends needs to git gud. In general 66% of people I match with are decent to good. I've only had 1 match with hopeless idiots not even worth saving and only 1 match with insane lag into 1 guy disconnecting. The remaining guy and I nearly beat the night lord as a duo after we both kind of dicked around and played solo using the excuse to explore the map. If we had try harded we could have done it.

This game already made 80 million dollars. Even if it's hogslosh it is successful enough to fund their next project.

Just as a side note. I recently finished base game Nioh, which while similar, was sick as fuck and a welcomed deviation from the FROM formula. Teh constant somber atmosphere and punishing mobs were awesome, but the bosses who can easily be cheesed and have way clearer attack patterns were a breath of fresh air. I know now why Nioh fans walk on higher ground.

A run consists of 3 nights in which you can find stuff, level up, etc. Once you beat a run, you get relics. They are attachable buffs you can take into the next run, you lose whatever weapons, runes, and levels you earn in the last run

The best relics for each character come from their story missions, which do take place in runs but that will lock up at least one relic slot, sometimes more, for each. 99% of the relics are basically useless shit like "+1 Faith" that change fuck all. Maybe 1% have some cool effect. Effectively they change nothing and there's almost no customisation nor between-run progressing, besides earning resource to buy the stupid skins like a mobile game.

I strongly believe Miyazaki is actually not the mastermind behind Dark Souls and that whoever it was they probably left during it's development.
I liked Armored Core, Demon's Souls and I think the they peaked with the first half of Dark Souls. Everything after that was a slopfest. A well made slopfest but still.

Elden Ring sold extremely well and remained popular by player count, which meant people liked playing the game and a DLC for more content makes sense- with such an active playercount and high reception, you can move more units doing more of the same.. The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC did just that, and also sold phenomenally well.

So why go in a different direction? It just doesn't make sound business sense. There's a known formula and design pipeline that prints money. Mucking it up with an offshoot is just irresponsible.

Just as a side note. I recently finished base game Nioh, which while similar, was sick as fuck and a welcomed deviation from the FROM formula. I know now why Nioh fans walk on higher ground.

personally i loved NIoh 2 more than 1 in terms of gameplay. it made the repetitive end game content bearable. still I didnt really go very deep in the dungeon tower, whatever it was called. I think that final fight in the DLC where you have to fight every boss in one go was a good send off.

I dunno. He seemed harder than the GAPE at least. High HP, high damage, constantly running away from you, and splitting into 3 in a game where your peripheral vision is non-existent is fairly brutal. Moth is only harder because the magic AOE spam while being focused is very difficult to dodge completely. Can't comment much on other Nightlords. Gold guy was a massive fag, but I've only fought him once.

Communication actually matters in this game. You can put the team on your back in many other coop games.

Think I'm genuinely done with from hackware. I played so much Demon's Souls, then Dark Souls 1, then 2, I clocked in over 2.2k hours in Blodborne, another 1k in DS3, and 1.3k in Elden Ring. The formula got extremely tired and samey in 3, as much good as the game had in it. Elden Ring was already an extremely lazy fucking empty husk. So much great content hidden behind so much absolutely pants-on-head retarded content reuse and empty space. The open world should have been at least 50% smaller and more than half the bosses shouldn't have been in the game. All the reuse of enemies, animations, skills, armours, and even bosses just makes it feel like a goddamn MOD at this point.
And this, this pathetic, literal below mod tier bullshit? I can't believe they would actually make something so terrible. Why the fuck would I want to play rollslop on a timer? What's the point? All of their other games have relied on you being able to explore and learn stuff, here you have to just rush everywhere. And don't even get me started on them expecting me to play with randoms. Have you SEEN what retarded subhumans from drones are? Why teh fuck would I EVER want to play with faggots like that, let alone RELY on them to not suck?

Have you played the game? You don't have time to sit there chatting with randoms, and there's no advanced strategy or complex plans to share anyway. You ping locations you want to go, others ping the same location to confirm or ping their own suggestions. That's it, it's more than enough.

but i absolutely agree that this feels like a mod. i got a refund quickly when I realized how limited we are in communication and that there isnt crossplay, meaning this will die off pretty quickly unless some serious updates come out for it.
