It looks better than Rune Factory 5 but that's not saying much. It's more of an adventure game than a farming game. Rune Factory games are the closest thing you'll get to Stardew Valley since they all have combat.

I don't know why retards keep saying ancient fruit wine is the most optimal when it's always been inferior to starfruit wine. Back before 1.1 when ancient fruit were 750g a pop, starfruit were only marginally better at 800g a pop. Now starfruit are 750g and ancient fruit 550g each, and the gold difference heavily tilts the value in favor of starfruit, especially when you start factoring in the multipliers.

Even when you factor in the seed cost and bus ticket cost, starfruit are more profitable than ancient fruit.

To be fair, it IS a problem in SDV that there's no reason to plant anything but the most optimal plants each season once you get the necessary crops for the community center.

I guess it depends on whether it's easier for you to get to the desert or to spend time on the island. Very late game my farming economy is almost totally automated so Ginger Island is easier to commit to.

Well, he could have quite easily fixed that in SDV by creating some kind of economy system, where certain goods are more or less in demand each season, and if you flood the market with one type of thing, you start getting diminishing returns.

It's all well and good not wanting people to minmax, but people are going to minmax whether you like it or not, so give them incentive to play the game how you would like it to be played even if they aren't doing it for the 'right' reasons. The end result is ultimately the same.

Starfruit is a superior money making option, but it's not that difficult to get an ancient fruit farm going in the meanwhile. You have to have a decent amount of capital to get starfruit to be profitable while you can get an ancient seed on day 1. You just need a seed maker (which you can get from the community center) and you can start multiplying your ancient fruits.

IIRC, wine isn't even the most profitable source of income anymore because of Aged Legend Roe. ALR can be obtained in Spring of Y2 and sells for 7,084g when aged with Artisan. Then you just need to get to Ginger Island and get 100 golden walnuts and do the Qi quest for the Legend II to start scaling up your farm.

I'm not in any hurry. Ancient fruit is extremely low maintenance. That means you're free from the hustle, you can do whatever you want with your time, including pursuing shorter-term money making options if you want, but you don't really have to worry about it cause your ancient fruit winery prints money on a regular basis.

Acquired taste, as I said. Parents would introduce their kids to bitter foods, especially beer, at an early age and they'd acquire the taste for it as they aged.

The only flavors you naturally have a taste for are sweet and salty at first, with sour developing a couple of months to a year later and umami developing a bit after that. Bitter never naturally develops.

Hops nigga. HOPS. Greenhouse full of hops. If you cram em in while still making them harvestable and watered by sprinklers you can get 90 or so hops per day, EVERY DAY.

90 hops --> 90 Pale Ales in 2 days. Those have a base value of 300g, upped to 420 with artisan profession. That batch of 90 Pale Ales (with Artisan) sells for 37800g. Every 2 days. Within a week (3 batches) you will have made over 100k gold. And you will keep making over 100k gold every week. Forever. Hops take 11 days to grow, but you only plant once, in the greenhouse. After that it's daily harvests forever and Pale Ales every 2 days.

Compare this to Star Fruit. They take 13 days to grow, and have to be grown from scratch every time. Making into wine, that's another 7 days. 20 days total from point of planting to profit (and you have to reinvest part of your profits back into seeds). After 20 days your 115 or so Starfruit (using Greenhouse layout for basis) will become 115 starfruit wine. If you don't bother with aging and have Artisan those sell for 3150 a pop, or 365,250 gold. In that same 20 days your Hops could've made you 378,000 gold, without needing to spend any on seeds, and the money comes to over time rather than all at once, you will always have cash on hand.

Looking at yearly totals the differences seem negligible. Starfruit will vary between 1.8 million gold and 2 million or so because the harvests will stagger over the calendar, while Hops will net you a reliable 2.1 million gold every year. Aging will make wine far more valuable per sale, but the primary advantages I'm highlighting here are that hops give you a comparable amount of money per year but much, MUCH faster, and with more immediate gains to show for it.

The difference is that Starfruit outperform Hops in the long run (hitting 10 million) because you can age them AND Starfruit require less maintenance because they're inert for so long. If you're going for Perfection, there's no reason to grow anything other than Coffee and Starfruit unless you need ingredients for recipes. Starfruit are also easier to scale up because they go so long between harvests meaning you can set them and forget them on Ginger Island and show back up to harvest twice a month. Meanwhile, you can't feasibly put your Hops on Ginger Island because you have to harvest them daily or your GPD crashes.

The point I made though is that Hops scale very fast and give you steady income. 37800 gold every 2 days, instead of having to wait all month for a big payday. If your goal is to make a lot of money very fast, Hops are rewarding. The fact that hops produce faster than kegs can turn them into pale ale also means that you can continually scale up your keg operation. This is something I didn't mention because it gets more into the weeds, and you have to factor in the costs of building so many kegs, and the sheds to hold them, but basically it works out like this:

90 hops per day. Batch of 90 goes into kegs. Next day you have 90 more hops, but the kegs are still brewing. So you build a second set of 90 kegs. Now you have DAILY pale ales. 180 per day. All those numbers I listed in my last post? Double them. Starfruit still probably looks better in the long run, but it requires a lot of patience. If I was going to be patient I'd just do ancient fruit.

Imagine paying for garbage that has LESS mechanics than literally every single Harvest Moon-like since the inception of the genre. And especially AFTER Stardew Valley released in 1.0 as a completely finished game (minus multiplayer which Ape promised but failed to deliver at the time).

What requires patience is harvesting all those hops every day. You can't get squat done on Ginger Island or in the Skull Caverns if you spend more than 2 hours doing your farm chores before being able to set out. You have a finite amount of time in a day in SDV, so eventually the amount of Hops you can harvest plateaus compared to the scalability of Starfruit.

The only limit on Starfruit Wine is # of kegs and # of Iridium Sprinklers. Ginger Island is perfect for Starfruit Wine scalability, and Starfruit popping every 14 days as opposed to Ancient Fruit's 7 means you have to check up on them even more infrequently. The only added hiccup is that Starfruit require you going to the desert and paying 400g a seed.

Wilderness doesn't have as many monsters as you'd believe. Plus, you can find Iridium Golems when you get to 9 combat now giving you a way to generate Iridium Ore before getting deep in the Skull Caverns.

The forest farm is my favorite, very good for foraging experience which is the second most annoying skill to level too.

It's only as stressful as you make it. There might be a daily timer but there's nothing else. You don't need to do anything by a certain time. You could start a game and sleep through the first 10 years and nothing would be affected.

You don't need to talk to everyone daily unless, again, you've decided to make it stressful for yourself. You get 20 points of friendship for talking to someone, which decays by 2 points a day for every day you don't talk to them. So if you talk to someone more than two times per season, you're gaining friendship with them. The only way it becomes stressful is if you try to speedrun it and force yourself to play every day as quickly and efficiently as possible.
