You already got filtered.

Why can't anons just make normal threads with sincerity

just play the first one
2 and 3 try way too hard to be GTA: cartoon edition and completely lose the plot
combat racing is good but has no real gameplay connection to the series other than leaning all the way in to one of 3's gimmicks

I'm serious. Why are his eyebrows and hair two different shades of neon green? And then they give him a goatee? Hideous

Story? I'd say yes, its got some good writing and is certainly memorable for it.

Gameplay?
No, this series is bottom of the barrel trash when it comes to gameplay, with Jak 2 being one of the worst things you will ever play.

Jak 1 is like an evolution from Crash Bandicoot, you go into it with that mindset and you'll have a good time.

Jak 2 throws everything you now out the window, packed to the brim with physics-based vehicle missions using vehicles made of wet paper that explode, half these missions are also races where you have to go maximum speed, three of them even take away some of your controls on purpose to make them even harder.

On foot it's practically a bullet hell with almost no ability to aim, there's an entire melee system that is completely useless because trying to use it will cause you to take way more damage with zero forgiveness for anything less than absolute perfection.

It shows 8 bars of health, but 99.99% of enemies all deal 2 damage a hit, so it's effectively still 4.

There are no checkpoints during missions, if you fail for any reason it's all the way back to the start.

And finally, there are several one-off minigames that are all batshit insane hard.

Jak 3 showers you in checkpoints and the vehicles are slightly more durable, that's its only saving grace from being just as bad as Jak 2.

Never played Jak X, wasn't interested in a racing game.

First game's a fine classic collectathon platformer with just some really annoying vehicle sections, second game is a crazy weird hybrid of GTA and platformer and damn hard, third game is kind of rushed out the ass but comes together for a decent finale, and X was a fine combat racer. It's got ups and downs, but the Jak franchise is fine enough all things considered, even if not as consistent as how Ratchet & Clank were overall.

He didnt discover the gun-kata mechanics

Lmao
The healthbar thing is bullshit though I agree.

le filtered!!!!!!

Nope, I beat the game, I can talk shit about it as much as I please.

>He didnt discover the gun-kata mechanics

You're a genuine retard if you think I'm not going to learn what you're taught in tutorials.

Jak 1 is like an evolution from Crash Bandicoot, you go into it with that mindset and you'll have a good time.

it clearly had more design tenets in line with Mario 64 and Banjo.

I'm emulating 1 at the moment, man the roll jump just feels so right. The momentum going from standstill to moving does feel wrong though.

boobies

Jak looks more appeal than modern games

C'mon, I'm not saying the designs are amazing but they're honestly not ugly, I still like them more than realisticshit

Git fucking gud. I completed these games when I was eight years old.

Isn't Jak 2 being hard a meme? It really isn't that hard

is the PC port of 2 finished? it's the only one I never finished

it's beta and playable but apparently has some bugs

nice, in the middle of a few playthroughs so hopefully when I'm done I can play Jak 2

It really is that hard. If you have finished the game multiple times over the years you are used to the controls and can mitigate some quirks and issues but the game really has alot of bullshit parts and moments and is unusually stingy with checkpoints for that sort of game. I've been replaying it regularly and to this day I think I only beat the water slums mission legit once or twice.

I mean, yeah I had problems with it when I was a little kid, actually I gave up finishing it at the time, but when I picked it up again in my later years it didn't look THAT hard to me, I'm pretty sure I've beaten the Slums Escape mission by just roll-jumping around the entire time.
Idk maybe I was just better at it during my second playthrough because I've played lots of harder games I guess

remember that time i rented Jak 2 immediately after coming home from my grandparent's house three states over

except i left my PS2 memory card over there, so i couldn't save my progress

could make it all the way to initially meeting keira while she's still behind the curtain before i passed out and was told to turn the system off after i woke up so i didn't damage it or anything

never played the game enough to get that far again

Man, what a memory.

I played and beat Jak 2 when I was a kid. It wasn't that hard.

1 is an amazing platformer that only moderately suffers from minigame cancer. Don't play the rest. They jumped on that embarrassing dark and edgy gta clone train. (You get yelled at by aughties for saying that nowadays, lol.)

all three games are good
even jak X was fun

I'm just glad that Ratchet stayed edgy but always did it with a tongue in cheek. Either way, it's dismissive to say to not play the other games. I'd say give 2 a shot for a while OP, decide if it is for you before jumping straight to X. A game that starts with Queens of the Stone Age can't be wrong.

I last played Jak 2 in 2003 when I was like 12 and sucked at games, it can't have been that hard.

I will never understand people complaining the game is too hard when the shotgun fills half the screen.

the time limits

it's time to drive halfway across the city in one minute, thirty seconds

oops i ran someone over, and i pissed off the crimson gu-

*explosion*

I played and beat Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts as a kid. Play the game again as an adult, it's much harder than you remember.

Learn to fly the bikes.

Well, it's obviously nowhere near something like Halo 3 LASO but compared to other games at the time, especially platformers, Jak 2 is no cakewalk, you're gonna die alot and you're gonna rage alot because sometimes the RNG will fuck you up. Obviously with some patience even as a kid you can beat it but you could say the same about Dark Souls, it's not that it's impossible or requires crazy skills, but that you will die alot.

One is short but decent. Two sucks ass, Ashelin and Tess are hot at least. I'll get around to three when it gets out of beta in OpenGOAL.

I never liked the art style of Jak and Daxter. It was so ill fitting for what became a dramatic story about evil dictators and surviving against a genocide. And the writing is simply not good. The first game may as well not even truly exist because nothing that happens there matters for the sequels. And the characters in Jak and Daxter are honestly kind of trash.

What killed Jak and Daxter is simply that it was never very good. It was a half assed series from beginning to end. And with the way the story ended the whole planet was reduced to a desert wasteland because the Metal Head aliens destroyed all the flora and fauna. The desert city from Jak 3 was literally the only other oasis in a ruined planet.

And I hate how Jak X went "No you see the Metal Heads didn't kill everyone there's this random new city that no one knows about where the Metal Heads never attacked so people can go racing! Its so fun even Krew used to go there when he was alive!" What a bunch of shit. Jak and Daxter is such a mess that I'm not surprised the series crashed and burned. If only Naughty Dog died though, sadly they found success with Shitty Not Indiana Jones and Last Dykes of Us.

post like this make me realize that I shoiuld never trust Anon Babble opinion on anything.
90% of you guys are retard with absolute terrible taste

What I don't understand is Naughty Dog changed Jak into being Grand Theft Auto but given the hardware at the time WHY didn't Naughty Dog simply make their own original Grand Theft Auto spiritual successor? Better than bastardizing Jak. Not to mention they could easily rip off....

Grand Theft Auto 3
Grand Theft Auto Vice City
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas

Because all three of these games were released on the PS2. Meaning Naughty Dog had a lot of reference material to rip off the formula of Grand Theft Auto. I simply don't understand why Naughty Dog didn't rip off Grand Theft Auto with an original creation. Forcing Jak to be bad cartoony rip off of Grand Theft Auto while being less edgy than freaking Conker's Bad Fur Day will always be idiotic.

oops i ran someone over, and i pissed off the crimson gu-

That only happens when you hit the crimson guard directly and you can see them and their cars on the minimap. They don't give a fuck if you run over people or hit other cars.

They also took some inspiration from Tony Hawk with the skateboard and maybe Ratchet and Clank with the guns.

Maybe if you stopped spinning in the air like a spaz or trying to run around the docks mission, you'd be good at the game.
Jak 2 is not a hard game. Just punch and shoot, that's all you have to do. Calling it a "bullet hell" especially is the most scrub mentality of all time, and I beat Jak 2 on the fucking Vita before you come at me (didn't 100% it because fuck doing challenges at 10FPS).
The Ratchet games on PS2 are FAR harder for FAR more bullshit reasons once you reach endgame levels.

And they didn't do either of those elements perfectly either. And Dark Jak which felt similar to Devil Trigger from Devil May Cry was functionally quite useless especially since refilling the gauge was extremely slow in Jak 2. Overall the series is kind of sloppy.
