I can't know for sure, but I think that given the importance that's been placed on her in the story, yeah I think it's safe to assume. Even still, if the actual only way to get the thorn ring is to abandon a weird route, then you'll still get the pure crystal at some point and going back chapters wouldn't be necessary.

you get the shadow mantle by befriending chaos king. you accomplish this by getting all recruits in chapters 2-4. he will give you some form of special information that, when brought back to chapter 1, will allow you to SPARE chaos king and retrieve the shadow mantle.

It made it all the way into the demo (vegetoids), and in the game itself you can go all the way to the end doming monsters as long as you aren't killing them and still walk out on the pacifist ending.

As it is for the most part you really have no reason to go for spares like that, the only time it's ever more reliable is the manual against Rudinns and insta-sparing Werewires, maybe include pacifiying with a Violent Susie because save Jigsawrys she doesnt ohko the enemy she attacks. And even then, in all cases you lose out on dark dollars because you wont end the fight with max TP.
We're eventually going to get to a point where sparing through plain mercy is just not feasible, you'll have to attack and gauge your punches so you dont kill and then put them to sleep if you want everyone to live, and in that case are you even sure they'll be darkners worth sparing if they're that resistant to it?
I feel like there'll probably be decent reasons to do things the "wrong" way with things like pacify.

I think with schizo bosses it's going to flip flop which way you should take it on. Like personally I say you should beat Jevil but spare Spamton. Jevil becomes the Devilsknife in the fight proper, so he feels more like himself if thats the item you get, whereas beating Spamton gives you the strings that restrict him rather than his iconic glasses so he should be spared. I dont think it's going to be "Lean into one extreme over the other", you'll need to actually deduce which one leads to a better fate for them.

I don't think it will be anything important, it's just another game mechanic. You can tire some enemies out without attacking them, Ralsei uses Pacify in cutscene. Probably it will be some minor gag or acknowledgement ("Boss, everyone sure got a good night's rest thanks to you!").
I think the lowest IQ option is actually Spare - you can cast it on non-yellow enemies to just get free +20% spare. Pacify can be used tactically, for example, it's the easiest and fastest way to beat the encounter with two Werewires - just do Defend-Defend-Pacify on both turns, it works flawlessly.

It's a little annoying that people forget FIGHT is an actual mechanic you can use without straight up killing anyone. The game was never full on anti-violence, moreso anti-murder(and even then you can kill Asgore and Flowey on your way to the pacifist ending).

If I'm gonna be honest, the AI that ZUN uses isn't even egregious. He used to just paste free assets for backgrounds, now he's putting those assets into an AI generator instead. It's not like he was using dall-e which scrapes through many artists hard work without crediting them. If there's one thing to criticize, its that ZUN being lazy with backgrounds is emblematic of a bigger problem that he rushes out his games. It's something more tools isn't gonna fix. It would be nice if he commissioned an artist to do the backgrounds but he really needs to spend more time on his games first and foremost.

Every chapter is going to have a weird game-break that ramps up in game-breakiness to access its weird route, but these game-breaking things will all be explained diagetically like how use of ice magic was used to explain backtracking and such for snowgrave. Chapter 1's weird route isn't possible yet because it involves going back with information you shouldn't have yet (Hinted at with one of Jevils puzzles being solvable with information you shouldnt have yet about the castle.), and getting that shadow mantle will allow you to do some more weird shit. Maybe the shadow mantle has a property that causes it to put the player's health in the negatives while still surviving, allowing them to survive some attack and walk around while "dead", meaning they can walk through barriers that would otherwise do damage to them and kill them. Queen mentioned Noelle clipping through walls at some point, I wouldn't put us finding a fake wall and "clipping" through it out of the realm of possibility, after-all, that's probably what happened to Dess. There are plenty of ways to have the game fake-break diagetically. Item duping could involve the self-replicating that Pipis does in Noelle's blog posts about Catpetterz, maybe ANY foreign object inserted into Catpetterz begins to multiply. We already have characters who can enter your inventory and acknowledge the limits of their text, and Starwalker goes "out of bounds" in the inventory. What if Lancer went into your stats menu or something and switched stuff around?
