Katamari Damacy

Fuck no

Awful camera that you can't control despite tons of free buttons

dash move requires you to wiggle both sticks like a spastic and half the time doesn't register, the other half the time you go in a totally different direction because it's impossible to stay pointed where you want while wiggling the sticks

Very inconsistent physics. A moving hazard barely bigger than your Katamari can hit you at 3mph and send you absolutely flying while other times you get nailed by a large, fast moving hazard and barely move

Hitting into a small step at low speed causes you to crash and lose objects, but you can get suctioned up a step taller than your ball without even trying. The pbysics of traversing ledges/walls/hills is extremely wonky and inconsistent

Objects' physical size don't match up with their size required to roll, oftentimes you will not be able to roll an object that your ball is way bigger than, but also vice versa where you can roll up comparatively massive items as a small ball

You can easily get caught on terrain and bug the fuck out, while at other times your objects just clip right through

NPCs constantly repeat the same lines of dialogue over and over, even interrupting gameplay to do so

The globe has specific regions for stages (even explicitly mentioned by The King) but none of these locations are represented at all; they're all just generic Japanese locations with Japanese items scattered about.

Levels feel very samey and repetitive. Different levels of the same environment type have the exact same copy-pasted level structure, and even most of the same items, with only very few objects being unique per level

overly loud and annoying 30 second countdown plays every stage

No way to restart level without completely exiting to home planet

It's a cool and novel concept but the camera, controls, physics, and object sizing are just so fucking awful that it drags the whole experience way down
It's like a 6-7/10. WLK improved everything

This is every game I've given a 10

Your favorite games :)

Into the Breach
Celeste
Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze

None because all games have at least one little thing i don't like. A 10/10 would be a game with literally zero improvable things

After 30+ years of vidya I have to say there's been no legit 10/10. A 10/10 would be a forever game and the only thing close to that is modded TES games which doesn't count because the base games are mostly garbage.

Sonic

LMAO

Why do people like Tropical Freeze so much?

I 200%ed the game, and I thought it would eventually click, but it never really did. I still like the level themes and OST, but in terms of actual level design and flow, only the temple worlds and secret worlds really succeeded at that. Too much focus on the level theming sabotaged the actual platforming design. Also the game has literally over 100ms of input lag which feels fucking terrible in a 2D precision platformer.

10/10 means 100% perfect without any flaws or subjective issues

1/1 means 100% perfect without any flaws or subjective issues

brainlet posters

I'm sure it looks that way to you, way up there on your midwit peak.

Final Fantasy 7

It's so fucking overrated.

I beat it for the first time last year on OG hardware (30 year old zoomer), and while it wasn't bad, it was very underwhelming; so dry and boring that it took me almost two months to finish even when I didn't do much side content. Just a drag.

everything is just so damn slow-paced from animations to transitions to loading to constant cutscenes and monologues

combat is braindead autopilot button mashing. Regular enemies are just braindead cannon fodder for grinding that pose zero risk whatsoever. Even bosses are a complete joke, and you will only ever fail to poorly telegraphed gotcha trollshit

camera angles in combat are obnoxious and constantly obscure the fight

targeting enemies and allies in fights is very finicky. Having to actually point at 3D models instead of the list of names is baffling

magic spells are samey and don't really fill a niche or usecase, with few meaningful tradeoffs

no descriptions for any spells or items while in combat

no symbols for status elements and no way to view them

translation is extremely shoddy, full of grammar/spelling errors and nonsensical engrish

dialogue boxes look amateurish, appearing all over and blocking parts of the screen and character names only appearing their first line; when new, unnamed characters speak, no name is shown, and the dialogue box appears the same as if the previous character is speaking

d-pad digital movement feels awful to navigate isometric maps; you will frequently bang into walls and go back the way you came on screen transition

prerendered backgrounds are unclear and unintuitive regarding what areas you can traverse or interact with

constantly have to go into towns and talk to every Tom, Dick, and Harry to advance the plot

99% of the objects in the world can't be interacted with, while a few arbitrarily can and give zero indication

mid.mp4 - 498x420, 51.16K

It depends on what you expect out of any game, but I think that Stardew Valley, Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, and Cruelty Squad are 3 examples of games where it feels like the creator(s) achieved exactly what they set out to achieve. Like, well realized visions are what I'd call 10/10 games.

Jesus wept. You're a fucking zoomer alright.

I've enjoyed many hundreds of games from 5th gen and earlier. FF7 is just overrated junk.

NTA but what are you smoking?

atmosphere

featureless Capital wasteland full of identical empty concrete rectangles & subway tunnels

quests

main quest is the dumbest in the entire series, somebody post the old screencap from THIS VERY BOARD about how stupid the fight over the water and use of the GECK was. Side quests and companions were also forgettable, including the DLC

factions

faction writing was terrible in 3 also, especially for the brotherhood of steel

combat

clunky buggy shit and VATs isn't fun

exploration

featureless gray concrete etc. etc.

Luigi's Mansion

sorry I didn't list a load of tryhard poser bullshit like Cosmology of Kyoto, Ikaruga, Umihara Kawase and Chulip

Joust

Portal

completely obsoleted by the sequel in every possible way

Ghost Trick

Story is decent, puzzles are boring and a bit contrived. It's just a solid game, but not even close to a 10/10 or a favorite game of all time.

Tropical Freeze

zero flow to any of the levels, huge amounts of input lag, poor visual communication with hazards, way too much focus on level theming over actual gameplay and level design. It's a decent, but highly overrated platformer. The OST is great, the bossfights are done well for a platformer, some level themes are interesting (at the cost of actual competent level design), but that's it.

Inside

There's no way you genuinely think this.

Ico

The combat alone is enough to drag the entire game down. It's so fucking awful and just comes up constantly. Ico is one of those games you can more appreciate the vision rather than actually being fun to play.

Hollow Knight

one of the worst games of all time, not even characters here for me to air my grievances with this piece of shit

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee

fucking dogshit eurojank cinematic platformer with some of the most awful movement of all time, dull fucking level designs, just a total fucking drag to play. Literally the only redeeming quality is the art design.

It's so blatantly obvious you are lying and just trying to bullshit for clout. Just be genuine.

The only reason i didn't pick that is because of the areas in maridia where you get stuck in the sand, and the fact that the space jump timing controls are broken/inconsistent.
Border Down has a 10/10 soundtrack i'll give you that. Yasuhisa Watanabe is GOAT

Baldur's Gate 1 modded to contain the whole original saga.

No, it's probably not 10/10 but you asked which one is the first I think of and I always think of BG1 whenever whatever games are mentioned.

Apart from that:
Planescape Torment
Final Fantasy VII
Fallout 1, 2 and 3
Mass Effect 1,2 and 3
Dead Space 1,2 and, yes, 3
Metal Gear Solid 3
Devil May Cry 3
Resident Evil 4

Only good answer ITT

Can you anons tell me what's so great about Metroid Prime?

I tried so hard to get into it and I couldn't. It's slow, the shooting feels bad, it's slow, the atmosphere/vibe is great but Republic Commando also did the rain-on-the-visor thing in the early 2000s and it didn't involve hours of backtracking

Tasteless Faggot

It's an adventure game, not a shooter. If you're strictly a shooter guy and not a tendie, you're gonna get filtered.

Now compare it to Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim.

Funny how no one cares about writing, or voice acting, or plot holes in those games. It's just a fun fucking game, stop overthinking it

TAG1

I'm talking about TES. TES games universally have terrible writing, quests, characters, story, etc. but nobody criticizes it or cares anywhere near the same degree as they do for Fallout 3. Same for JRPGs as well.

It's absolutely not the reason anyone is playing the games. It doesn't have to fit in your specific narrow expectation of an RPG.

It's just a worst version of FNV. Just admit you like slop

I have New Vegas on that same list rated higher than Fallout 3. Are you retarded?

DLC has too many Cyber Mancubus for my liking.

Kid Icarus Uprising
That's about it.

I like Fallout 3 because it lets you just be a comically evil asshole. Sometimes you just want to fuck around. Who cares if the world or quests aren't realistic, it's a fucking fantasy videogame. It's just fun to mess around and explore, blow people to bits, and be an asshole. The quests may not be well written and may be a bit corny at times, but they are at least memorable and enjoyable, far better than anything in TES games, and they have much more actual choice and player freedom than any of TES games. Oblivion had the best quests of the trilogy, but still pales in comparison to Fallout 3; funny how people can only compare New Vegas quest branching to 3 but will never compare New Vegas to the absolutely barebones fetch quests of TES.

EBF3.

file.png - 1060x630, 678.64K

funny how people can only compare New Vegas quest branching to 3 but will never compare New Vegas to the absolutely barebones fetch quests of TES

Could it be that TES never really had good branching quests while Fallout 1 and 2 were famous for their quests with multiple solutions? Especially 2, New Reno is a masterclass in quest making.

I can get behind all of these, but I vehemently disagree with these…

OOT

I don't really care. I've never cared for "it's a good game, but a bad x game" arguments. You came into it with clearly wrong preconceived notions just based off name alone and then chose to be angry as a result. Not my problem.

but nobody criticizes it or cares anywhere near the same degree as they do for Fallout 3.

That's because Fallout 3's story, characters, and worlds are just that bad. It's not rocket science, buddy. There's a thing called suspension of disbelief, and Fallout 3 fails to maintain it completely. The game lacks any logical coherence; case in point, picrel, and no TES game has this level of bad writing and plot holes except for maybe Skyrim.

I have New Vegas on that same list rated higher

Liking one good game doesn't change the fact you like slop. You have shit taste it's okay to admit it, Zoomie
