5e monk is very much good, it's just MAD, (Multi-Ability Dependent).
In a typical game of D&D there is no guarantee you will be able to level

STR for grappling and jumping, but the least important of the listed. Nice to have.

DEX for AC, saves, and attacks

CON for health, duh

WIS for AC, spell DC

So your typical Monk has to go for DEX and WIS while squeezing whatever extra points in CON to not immediately die. In BG3 however you can boost your STR with Elixirs and CONmaxx with the Amulet so you can safely just pump up WIS and DEX.

Monk is and has been the quintessential too-many-stats class. You can't be effective because you have to stretch yourself thin between at least three stats+ CON.
