fighting games are unironically way too addicting once you become familiar with the basics and start noticing improvement
not a single other genre of gaming has captured my attention like this before
and apparently modern fighting games are super casual compared to the old school classics? i couldn't imagine how addicted i'd be to street fighter 3 or tekken 4 if i played them back when they were new
the initial learning curve is rough, but once you get over it, this genre is something special
fighting game bros, i'm beginning to understand where your passion comes from

I bet Dead or Alive 5 in February and I haven't been able to put it down since. I know exactly what you mean.

lmao what a stupid faggot

i used to play DoA when i was a little kid with my older siblings and cousins, it was fun but i was just a button masher
have you played virtua fighter? i heard the recent release is decent, but i haven't played it yet

relax

and apparently modern fighting games are super casual compared to the old school classics

Tough, those ones tend to be quite repetitive once you crack down around 300-400 hours in SF6/T8/GGST compared to the ones made a decade ago

nah the reason I play DOA is because it is a button masher. I don't usually find fighting games fun but I bought it on a whim and got hooked on it. I'm thinking about getting in to either SF6 or Tekken 8. I know Tekken 8 is having real problems at the moment so it might now be the best time. I tried the SF6 demo but the gameplay doesn't feel right. I might also just pickup The version of Tekken 7 that has all the DLC included the next time it goes on sale and try to get in to Tekken that way.

I think you might have autism. Get out while you still can. Go to the gym or something

Now play real fighting game and not casino fighter 6 that game tricks you into thinking you are good at fighting games

and apparently modern fighting games are super casual compared to the old school classics

yes, you're a shitter. BTW if you play Ryu, Ken, Cammy, Luke, Terry, Mai, Akuma, Gief, Honda, or Juri you are BAD, play a real character

when i got into sf4 i seriously stopped playing any other kind of game for like 10 years. fightan games arent for most people but for the right kind of person they are basically everything you ever wanted out of vidya

couldn't imagine how addicted i'd be to street fighter 3 or tekken 4 if i played them back when they were new

there's a reason they call mvc2 'the crack' anon

once you become familiar with the basics and start noticing improvement

A step too high for most casuals

Try shmups OP. Same appeal, just as good.

Games like SF6 trick you into thinking you're getting better by ensuring a steady supply of scrubs for you to BTFO. Oh, and modern with autocombo button is just sanctioned cheating. If you played against the same people in a Fightcade lobby over a long period of time, you'd notice that you're hardly improving at all. The set results would remain largely the same no matter how much you play. Every person has a ceiling when it comes to their FG ability and they become hard stuck when they reach that. Most people whose ceiling is too low just stop playing.

Shmups are much easier than FGs because they're just rote memorization. FGs not only have more chance elements but you also have to adapt to your opponent's character and playstyle.

the initial learning curve is rough, but once you get over it, this genre is something special

Hmm... thanks, but no thanks.

I'm just going to leave a negative Steam review and write a passive-aggressive Reddit essay about how the game is fundamentally doomed because of mechanics that players don't even use at the MMR where I'm hardstuck (gold). The developers "change the game too much" with every patch, yet don't change it enough to accommodate my personal feelings about which characters are too strong (the ones I lose to) and which are too weak (the ones I play). Everyone who beats me is "sweaty" for knowing how to play, matchmaking killed my dog, and there's literally nothing I can do to improve. No, I won't learn frame data and hitboxes, and no, I won't post recordings of my gameplay so people can actually offer constructive criticism - that's ableist.

The only good fighting game is the first one I ever played, specifically in my friend's dorm room on a broke-ass, secondhand MadCatz stick or a GameCube controller so caked with sweat and dead skin that it's saltier than I am when I try to adapt to any new stimuli. Everything else is trash except the perfect fighting game that only exists in my head.

get sf6 and start story mode

it's a neat concept at first but i quickly grow tired of the constant small fights

quit when i get to the skyscraper building site

get into online

play 10 matches with each character for a rank

play a bit more manon because she's the best

seen enough, uninstall

tekken 7.webm - 750x422, 2.91M

I don't understand people who want singleplayer story modes in fighting games. The stories of fighting games are rarely that interesting, and the gameplay is just inferior in every regard to multiplayer.

This is only true if you ignore all scoring, which is a child's view of the genre

Just give me survival mode where I can turn off my brain and beat up AI. Tekken does this well and SF6 just needs to repurpose that battlehub simsim thing to be an actual survival mode.

Not reading your wall of seethe

Shmups are also a game of endurance, have fun counterstopping something like Tatsujin Oh and Gradius III

We could have an actual decent AI in fighting games nowadays, with opponents having distinct playstyles and trying to adapt to you and such. The problem is that all just Jap companies are run by the same clique of Parkinson's-ridden salaryman and the last time they innovated was in the 90s. Reminder that Americans wrote the rollback netcode implementation for Capcom.

Sf6 is the most repetitive fighting game ever created, every character has the same gameplan. The universal mechanic are way too strong and overshadow any sort of individuality any character might have.

SF6's battle sim thing does it better by grabbing some random shmucks ghost AI for you to fight

But why wouldn't I just play multiplayer at that point?

Because the game is dead, opponents at a similar skill level are very hard to find and everyone you fight against either wins handily against you or loses hard to you. Good AI would allow for fine-tuning the difficulty much better.

the gg xx games have pretty good story modes and arika has shown how much fun and silly shit you can do with arcade mode. in pretty much all modern games though it's basically just a time filler between matches and the next place to refine your combos after training mode.
in actual arcades though it is actually really nice to have something to do while you're waiting for someone else to play.

the game is dead, opponents at a similar skill level are very hard to find

Play games that came out before 2010 I guess?

before

After*

you could also try being slightly less socially autistic and asking for games.

Most fighters that came out after 2010 have less than 50 players lol.

I'm not expecting some huge 80 hours epic, but I would like the characters I use to have a little background story and personality behind them. Cutscenes followed by quick fights is a good enough story mode for me.

DUU JUST FISHING FOR A LAUNCHER

I’ve been getting into fighting games recently and I’ve been having a lot of fun despite rarely winning. Reacting to opponents and trying to push them into a position you can exploit is my favourite aspect of them. The rush of playing the neutral at the start of the round, even if I suck balls at it, is unbeatable. I just want to fight as many different people as I can. But man does it require a massive time commitment to become even remotely competent at a single game.

the character is called op the faggot and his mission is to suck every dick on earth
good enough anon?

I don't know how the fuck people can enjoy looking at Tekken's ragdolls in the air getting launched over and over again with how they look.

fightan games are a large time commitment upfront, but once you've played them for a while you can just play a 15 minute set on your lunch break and have more fun than you would grinding for hours in the latest fotm singleplayer game

The main problem is that fighting game stories are retarded. They are getting more retarded by the day and people excuse it by saying "Well, you shouldn't expect a good story from a fighting game anyway." In Tekken 8 they made Jun into Virgin Mary by saying that her and Kazuya never had sex, that Jin's conception was immaculate and that it happened through ki convergence while they were fighting.

you already accomplished that mission

it happened through ki convergence

The power of maaaannnnnnnyyyyy

ya like I said I'm not expecting a huge epic story. short cut scenes are good enough and like I can just fill the rest in with my imagination and i'm not really concerned with anything like you just said

heihachi mishima is dead

oh wait no he isnt

okay he's dead for real this time you saw the explosion

sike lmao

no this is actually it the mishima storyline is done his seiyuu is dead we're not that that distasteful and we have a new donut steel

...

...so about that

Exactly. And all of that is because FGs are sold on character design and spectacle, so they can't kill off anyone for real and they want to show cool shit happening on screen without much care about how to get there story-wise. The problem is that cool shit is no longer that cool when you've seen it for a millionth time and my brain would like something with more substance at this point.

SF6 crack when...

does online pvp work with cracks?

For arcsys gams yes

I can not tell you the plot of a single fighting game outside Heihachi and Kazuya hate each other and Sagat hates Ryu.
