Skip ALL the tutorials! XD

I just read the manual

that sounds like it takes more time

I watch the tutorial video.

Sometimes it comes with complimentary gifts like achievements, unlockables etc.

I'm the type of player that goes through tutorials even for stuff I already know because I consider that to be content and I want to get the most out of my games.

It's more like

games that are exactly like dozens you've played before always have tutorials

games that do something different don't and require hours reading a wiki

play FPS

skip tutorial

no problems

skill issue

I guess that depends on how recently you were pushed through public education

might need help understanding some weird advanced mechanics

tutorial spends 15 minutes teaching you how to look left and right and walk and open doors

Push W to walk!

Push E to open the door!

Push S to walk backwards!

Push Spacebar to jump!

"Uh, this is a bit much. Tutorials: OFF"

tutorial on core game mechanic that only displays if you waded through all the babyshit for 30m that ONLY appears 1h+ into the game if you have tutorials:ON

"what the fuck do I do now"
Love it

mandatory tutorial

Tutorial completely fails to mention multiple mechanics

these range in importance from "very valuable" to "required to make progress."

IMG_2033.jpg - 500x517, 31.87K

tutorial just brushes basic stuff

fucking CK2

20 hours later, hey I didnt know I can do that.

Just give quick tips while playing the game when you are introducing something new, tutorials suck

Tutorial

Objective: Speak to Professor

Walk upto the Professor

Ahhh anon! Did you know you can press forward on the control stick to walk!?

tutorial only teaches you how to walk and look at stuff

completely skips crucial mechanics to gameplay

Thanks haha

fucking CK2

oh I remember that one

now put your army on boats and invade Canary islands

my whole army gets obliterated

???

press w to walk forward

press s to walk backwards

w and s are keys on the keyboard

which is the thing you use to type

press esc to open the menu, now try going through and changing every setting once and immediately change it back to make this dialogue disappear

you also have to crouch at this part

no, you HAVE to crouch. it's ctrl.

SIMULTANEOUSLY:

here's 3 very dense paragraphs about how this games esoteric status effects interact with damage types and how that other gauge below the enemies' health bar works and why it's the center of the whole fucking game, you'll only be shown this this one time so take notes, fucko, hope you remember for the second boss

A lot of games just suck at communicating their mechanics in organic ways to players. Then there are retarded players make the most well conceived tutorials go to waste.

Expedition 33

Every complicated game I've played has had a useless tutorial. User created guides or videos are always better.

I remember installing dota 2 like a decade ago and the tutorial only taught me how to move my character and use the shop

Not really. You're not forced to read slow dialogue u can just skim

A comprehensive tutorial for a paradox game would probably take a significant amount of dev time. Better to let gamers do it for a janny's salary.

if your game needs a tutorial it sucks

You're brown

t. bing bing wahoo fan

I guess all games suck.

Smash Bros needs a tutorial.

Get told to RTFM

End up making banana bread

Forget to play the game

It was said multiple times already but yeah , there are too many tutorials that give you very basic instructions(like how to move your character) but say nothing about game mechanics you actually want to know about

what game do (you) think has the best tutorial?
I like astro bot with the controller and action preview on the top left, better than being stopped and told what buttons to press

implying nu-games let you skip the tutorial

Fighting game tutorials are like

hold up to jump

press attack buttons to attack!

this is the most important mechanic in the game and everything revolves around it and we're going to dedicate 5 separate tutorial sections with long paragraphs

Hitman: Blood Money

this is the sniper case

blow this nigga brain into the pavement to continue

Also games that have a tutorial but the tutorial doesn't explain the unique element.
Fucking crazy that the instructions for dodge offset in Bayonetta were hidden deep in a menu, I actually did read it before I started the game but didn't understand what it meant and didn't bother to learn until my third playthrough, it would have been so trivial and so massively improved people's enjoyment of the game if the tutorial forced you to do it.
Honorary mention to games where the tutorial refers to things buttons can be bound to but doesn't tell you what button it is, fighting games are the big culprit for this but I've also seen a VR flight game do an awful job of explaining how to fire the weapons along these lines.

heh

fighting game has dozens of tutorials needed to master its mechanics

by the time you finish the community has moved on and there's no one to play with anymore

Exactly this

I didn't have a PC in the house until 2007, so before that, I would take the bus down to Borders and read the strategy guidebook while taking notes in a notebook.

Inb4 why not take the bus to the library to use a computer

That was 9 extra stops down, and I liked using my spare pocket money to buy a coffee from the cafe.

It takes less time for me to read an entire page than it does for a narrator to tell me to press w to walk forward. In part because I can ignore the retarded toddler tier instructions like that.

This, why the fuck would they tell you how to move?

Tutorials about basic movement? Sure

Tutorials about how to use arts and soul voices? Sure

Tutorials about accepting quests? Sure

Tutorials about basically every simple thing a person who plays a jrpg would know? Of course

Tutorial about the advanced combat mechanic unique to the game that will be how you play ground combat from then on? Nah fuck off go read the in game manual

In-game tutorial? Ugh, I just wanna play now!

WTF? How do I do this? How do I do that?

Watch 6 hour YouTube Let's Play episode to learn how to play instead

I hate myself sometimes

Literally me.jpg - 1920x1080, 367.77K

Were rage comics ever unironically popular on here?

play tutorial

just forces me to go through all the menues and tells me the same thing that's written in the tooltips

That's what I remember from Paradox game tutorials.
What really pisses me off is that there are mechanics that aren't explained at all, in tooltips or otherwise. You can only find information about them in the wiki.
Like how combat phases work, how damage is calculated, etc.

been 10 years+ but yes

and not shit like the OP

I came here to basically post this exact fucking thing, tutorials for everything except the shit that could actually use a tutorial, seems to happen more in Japanese games

If you can tell you're playing through a tutorial, it's a BAD tutorial.

Civ 4 is kind of like that too
