Full Final Fantasy Magic Preview

(Extremely Depressing News) The Final Fantasy set is coming out for Magic: The Gathering Arena (A video game released in 2018) in 12 days. We have the full card list now, and Final Fantasy V, X and XII got absolutely ignored in favor of Final Fantasy XIV. Non-MMO players like myself are getting laughed at by Wizards of the Coast.

The last 3 cards just got revealed. First up, we have the last legendary creature coming in just at the last stretch.

SHE'S IN!

file.png - 682x953, 1.13M

Guess who's back
Back again
Rydia's back
Tell a friend

file.png - 682x954, 1.01M

And the last card that had yet to be revealed belongs to Final Fantasy X. As if we didn't get enough cards related to it already. With that, the previews are now complete.

file.png - 744x1039, 1.14M

Not bad for an uncommon

XIVgods won

Final Fantasy 1

file.jpg - 3360x2808, 2.35M

Final Fantasy 2

file.jpg - 2688x2808, 1.85M

I can’t take magic seriously with their card text

when X enters

Good morning sar when rakesh enters the call center he can place one +X/+X scam token on any non-white creature

Final Fantasy 3

file.jpg - 3356x1872, 1.69M

I'm sick of these shit equipments that come with a creature
And what the fuck does it even have to do with selecting a job
You select your job first, then you get a weapon for it

FF saved MTG

Chocobos first appeared in Final Fantasy II. You'd think that set would have a Chocobo card to commemorate that.

Also makes it seem like FF II created random encounters, which is not true lol

Final Fantasy 4

file.jpg - 3356x2804, 2.48M

they really did not have much to go on for 3 huh

That's the XIV Lunar Whale design

Can't wait to see what the monstrosity that is 14 looks like

XIV pay piggies will buy this shit out the wazoo

Actually kinda shocked about the lack of a Spoony Bard reference.
Square (and others) LOVE the reference that at every opportunity. No matter how played out it is.

Cecil's HOLY SHIT IT'S RYDIA expression is pretty good too.

Final Fantasy 5

file.jpg - 2688x3743, 2.78M

XIV got to meny cards in the set

Final Fantasy 6

file.jpg - 2016x4914, 3.77M

Amount of cards each FF got more or less correlates with pic related.

That's really nice Terra art

12bros... We really got fucking cucked for no reason.

XVI is fucking brutal jesus fuck what happened to the series?

Why isn't Exdeath part Tree?

No Splinter Rick version

Dead on arrival

PS4 exclusivity, not turn based, can't rely on XV's "Hot men on a trip" gimmick.
Also probably can't even profit from XIV's massive playerbase because that game is really fucking wacky and dumb, stupid somewhat funny sometimes fantasy compared to XVI being that... Normal.
Also it not being a propper JRPG doesn't help

We need something for our generic black and/or red effects' art

Sir, he's already in the studio laughing nihilistically

Kefka.png - 250x187, 96.05K

someone post the one with the correct numbers

No Vayne

No Larsa

No Unique Cidolfus

No Basch

Not a single Bangaa card

No a single summon from FFXII

No Manufacted or Deifacted Nethicite card

NOTHING, FUCKING NOTHING. And only VAAN got a unique rare card on his name, Balthier and Fran had to share their fucking card.

FUCK these simpletons.

Barely a JRPG
Barely looked like a FF game
Over reliance on "dark fantasy" ala Game of Thrones, despite it's popularity jumping off a cliff in recent years.
Single console exclusivity
XV (and the tepid reaction to ffvii remake) somewhat poisoning the well
General apathy towards SE in general.

Take your pick.

FFXI being low is doubtful, considering that game was a big cash cow for Square in the 2000s.

Well, they must be counting just the singular title sales. The subscription earnings would be separate, right?

Final Fantasy 7

file.jpg - 2823x3370, 3.87M

Yeah but XIV has to be that massive due to people having to pay like 30 each 3 years for the expansions. If anything they should count as individual games

No a single summon from FFXII

I would guess they're saving that for a set where WOTC does all the spin-off games like Tactics, Vagrant Story ect.

How hard is it to have one card per MC

So fucking weird

Weird that instead you get a card per Cid

Why would they save summons from a mainline game for a spin-off set? They added two versions of Ifrit, Shiva and Bahamut already.

Magic's art style is so fucking shitty and ugly, god damn

See, they already used class cards in a previous DnD set, so they couldn't just remake the same basic premise again. They COULD have reprinted them, sure, but that would be giving people value.

Is this not missing that special Safer Sephiroth card Nomura showed recently?

They even chose Odin for XIV for some weird reason
My man I don't think anyone cares about ARR side content, I don't even think a new player could find people to do Bahamut, let alone the freak autistic FATE boss

XII is set in the same universe as Tactics and notably has a different Summons list compared to the rest of the franchise As such, if WOTC/Square wanted to do another FF set, which isn't unlikely considering the high profit this one has generated for Wizards even before its release I could See them focising on the Spin off game for the another set

Final Fantasy 8

file.jpg - 4700x2804, 3.94M

Ok we HAVE to make someone a nigger and a lesbian we just gotta

money steers work. of course ffxiv gets the most cards because it generates the most money

No Crystal Castle

No Falgabard/Dark Knight

No Unei/Doga/Xande

Onion Knight is a passing reference

No Sage/Ninja

No Eureka

No Exacalibur

The crystal spam really fucked the representation potential here

To be fair, that's just one card that has a bunch of alternate arts. In the print sheet, it only counts as one.

If they included monthly subs and mogstation stuff, XI and XIV would be towering over the rest.

OP isn't posting the alt arts, but there's a lot of those as well. And I'm sure they'll try to kike us for as much as they can with them in Arena lol

There are plenty of stuff from FFXII that isn't a direct reference to tactics at all. Hell, not even a single Seeq card, the pig guys that first appeared in FFXII? Why none of the big antagonists got a card? They picked Gabranth, which sure he's arguably the main emotional antagonist, but not Vayne? Not even an Ocurria card, which is also an exclusive aspect of FFXII? They didn't know shit about the game. They made Yzmat a random 5/7 creature with conditional indestructable.

Amano's art akchully

no, stop looking into it and get angry at 14

Was Cyan commander only?

Oh right *ahem*
AAAIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEE I FUCKING HATE XIV

Unfortunately. And unlike some of the cards that are technically standard, that one actually would be cool in Arena rather than blatant Memedern shit. (I'm looking at you, Y'shtolla)

Damn. Oh well his art was cool

Lots to correctly complain about with this set, but you know what I'm not gonna complain about? The IX representation, baby. IXchads won.

Final Fantasy 9

file.jpg - 3220x3741, 3.71M

My baby is in, but unfortunatly wont get an Amano artwork due to being uncommon. I wish she was Mythic to push her power for EDH.

And now you regret to inform me, Celes, my second favorite FF waifu is in a commander precon only. I love wizards.

AmanoMyGoat.png - 691x965, 899.46K

zidanechads we won again

no Eiko

no Amaranth

no Tantalus

no Garland

no Memoria

no Necron

no Ozma

no Antlion

no rat dancers

no Iifa tree

Freya reduced to a mana dork

"You're not Alone" reduced to a shitty combat trick

At least Vivi became the most powerful card in the set

Not only is Celes commander only, she has a really boring design. No spell-absorbtion at all.

Now you're just being unreasonable, at the end of the day it's 300 cards divided by 16, and it can't all be creatures, let alone legendary creatures. I think they did a damn fine job with 9. The 12fan in me wishes we got anywhere near that treatment.

The entire set's design is rather boring tbf

at least more people might finally get to use the Excalibur II

Final Fantasy 10

Ten.jpg - 3428x3179, 3.71M

4 cards referencing blitzball

Of course the designers for MTG would be the type of fucks that would get obsessed with Blitzball. Hell, the only celestial weapon in the set is Wakka's. You'd think Wakka would be too problematic for WotC, being a racist and all.

Odd to see Bahamut is colourless would have White made the most sense for him or make it the XV design if they wanted colourless
Also I feel like Anima is underpowered

Still pissed we didn't get Auron. Fuck Jecht.

Final Fantasy 11 ^

spell-absorbtion

I agree, but it would sorta be hard to put on a body. The problem is that her colors were determined the moment she was put into Terra's deck, and the ability to counter a spell and turn it into mana just isn't possible with her color identity. She also was made to be the alt-commander. I guess the graveyard is somewhat symbolic of her jumping off a cliff and coming back stronger, so I guess there is that.

EDHOnly.png - 979x697, 628.52K

You can make graveyard matters abilities that aren't just simple value machines. They did the same thing with Mr. House when they just shoved him in Mardu colors because all the other villains were in the mardu deck.

Final Fantasy 12

We got fucking ROBBED

file.jpg - 2680x2807, 2.04M

Final Fantasy 13

file.jpg - 2680x3740, 3.03M

the Edgar card is awesome

How come FFXIII gets to have their whole party in their own unique cards, with even dumbfuck Serah there?

Well, there is always Y'shtola no. 2.

Lightning shilling is still strong 16 years later. It can never truly be eradicated.

Just make Celes an Aristocrat that pumps the board wide with low cost recusion monsters. Thats what I plan on doing.

Vivi is the most hype card in the set - preorders are like $120 (fuck commander btw)

SE still seething at Matsuno confirmed

Supremely missed marketing opportunity to not have a card called Captain Basch fon Rosenburg of Dalmasca

Some sort of reference to the dumb pot that bricks your zodiac spear potential would have been a funny and flavorful card, could even put on generic artifact removal

AAAAAAAAIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEE!!!

FINAL FANTASY 14 SAMA... H-HAVE MERCY...

I... I KNEEL!!!

file.jpg - 2012x3744, 3.48M

FFXII cards

No Venat or other Occuria cards.

We lost.

these suck shit

sold what it did on week one due to the innate final fantasy audience

also alienated a good portion of existing final fantasy fans who did not like the direction of the new game

se failed to properly expand the reach of the game much beyond the existing ff fanbase

never generated much buzz once the game actually released despite the game being explicitly produced to generate buzz

was forgotten extraordinarily quickly by the public aside from it's handful of mega fans and its handful of mega haters

The funny thing about this cross over, in France they are repurposing FF16s cards into Exp 33. They're changing Clive into Verso and Gustav.

Gee FF14, how come they let you have so much cards?

Wsn't there also an Endsinger card?

these suck ass bar like 4

there was a Hermes card

Where's the Wuk Lamat card?

There's even more alt arts and also repurposed old MTG cards with Final Fantasy cards and also commander cards. That's only half of FF 14's power.

You're probably thinking of a commander card.

NamazuCHADs we are in yes yes

Omega

Isn't Omega from V and, much like Gilgamesh, has been leaping from one world to the next hoping that the next leap will be leap home?

at least Wuk lo mat didn't get a card

What are you talking about, anon? Venat is right here:

the Omega in 14 is an actual character as opposed to just a superboss you run into

That's XIV's Venat, the Venat in XII was a completely different character.

Alright, now that the tsunami is done, it's only smooth sailing from here to end the journey.

Final Fantasy 15

file.jpg - 3360x3740, 3.44M

I dunno, anon. It clearly says Venat right there. If this Venat guy were really that important or interesting, I'm sure he'd be in this incredible MTG set.

aw no Maria card

noctis being Esper colours seems incorrect for his characterisation in the game

Rosa is too sexy for WotC

Lunafreya shafted again

Lol, lmao even

Artifact focused card, so green wouldn't fit and Red only deals with artifact tokens or exiling artifacts from the graveyard.

Omega from V is an alien bioweapon seeking for Shinryu

Final Fantasy 16

Square Enix almost certainly wanted Wizards of the Coast to shill this game really hard, but Wizards of the Coast want to sell cards and need to set to be of the more beloved games. Their solution? The opposite of XIV. Quality over quantity. Few cards, but nearly all of them have the wow factor if you open them in a pack.

I look forward to seeing the tier lists for first picks in drafting. I wouldn't be surprised if on average value, the XVI cards dominate. It's almost like we get to witness power creep happening in real time all in one single set.

file.jpg - 3360x2808, 2.55M

I haven't played magic since... the kithkin sets... fairy tale / nightmare set?
Anywho, when exactly did MTG jump the proverbial shark?
Coloured artifacts bothered me. Planeswalkers bothered me. The hilarious LotR set gave me a chuckle. But shit that bothered me doesn't equate to the series going off the deep end. When did that happen?

anon didn't include the commander pre-constructed deck cards so that xiv would dominate even more in the set

I am looking forward to play with that precon I luckily got ordered for the original MSRP price.

Basically the same is true in 14, but Omega gets an entire raid series dedicated to it, so it gets a lot more characterisation. I believe it even became a waifu for a bit before you had to kill it.

where does it say that in game?

Anywho, when exactly did MTG jump the proverbial shark?

This latest shark? When they made custom The Walking Dead card with unique design and mechanics for a limited release promotion. It was all downhill from there.

no HW Shtola

Turns out we need more XIV cards.

the kithkin sets

Lorwyn? their going back to that plane next year after the Sci-fi and Avatar Last Airbender sets

when exactly did MTG jump the proverbial shark?

I would say 2018 or so is when it jumped but you could see the problems going all the way back to 2012

Horny mods

Anywho, when exactly did MTG jump the proverbial shark?

Right when WotC announced Universes Beyond collabs becoming part of Standard format. End of this year will show are players tired of this shit or are they sticking.

happy my nigga minh made it

Easily the best of the pixel era

I have played every single FF game, even have to begrudgingly admit that the roadtrip and bromance in XV worked very well. XIV is probably the best they did in the last 10 years.

XVI is not a FF game. It is trying so hard to be a western action game in the first half, down to the needlessly brutal Game of Thrones plot... just to steer back to killing god in the latter half. Spiced with god awful sidequests. The only merit are the eikon battles, everything else is just shit. It should have been a side game like Strangers of Paradise.

they gave YoshiP a card instead of actual FF characters

lmao

the kithkin sets... fairy tale / nightmare set?

Lorwyn, was supposed to get a remake but that got pushed back for more crossover sets.

The basics is that Hasbro is a giant cancerous tumor, a company that will die because because physical toys have been replaced by digital, and Hasbro suck hard at software. So they cling to the few profitable things they do have, foremost MTG and D&D. WotC was expected do something ridiculous like triple revenue by 2027 or so, so they've been chasing any and all methods of getting more money NOW. Mass layoffs + crunch, collectible flood, power creep, crossovers, $1000 proxies, legal fuckery to retroactively own all their competition, it's all a mad rush quarterly growth.

Cid is technically considered a FF XIV card, but I didn't count it as such, because it has an art version for every game from II through XVI

As Norm Macdonald would say, all the Cids are here.

Cid.jpg - 3360x2807, 2.82M

Lorwyn?

That's the one. Good memory, anon... or it just never stuck in my memory like Kamigawa, Ravnica, Dominaria, Phyexis, or Mirrodin... did Urza have a plane? I feel like Urza made a plane... or was that Karn making Mirrodin?

their going back to that plane

Marvel Spider-man MTG cards

...I don't want to say that MTG has become souless, but goddamn that's corporate-slop

Serah gets to be there but Noel gets cucked.

the Wandering Minstrel is one of the most soulful characters in 14 though

for those who don't know, there are different versions of story fights with different difficulty levels. the majority of the difficult fights are a retelling of the fight by this guy with embellishments and changes to make it more exciting

Uzra didn't have plane, he was just from Dominaria, and Karn made Mirrodin later

Despite being an obvious YoshiP insert to anybody who's done The Rising yearly quests the game actually does separate The Wandering Minstrel as a person and character from Yoshida

Now here's the starter deck cards. These are all obviously unplayable newbie traps except for Ultimecia, which is probably still an unplayable trap but at least a more well disguised one. Plus they aren't in the draft, so yeah, worthless cards that don't count. A card for III, a card for IV, three cards for VII, a card for VIII, a card for IX, a card for X, a card for XIII, yet another card for XIV and two cards for XVI

Rosa-anon, you got Rosa. She's just shit. At least she's in Arena, though.

Starter.jpg - 2688x2808, 2.1M

No X-2 cards either no sequel cards in this set

im very happy with this idea, its neat! need the one from 8, my fav cid without question. 9 one shouldve been frog/cockroach skin imo, this one is barely recognizable

legal fuckery to retroactively own all their competition

How the fuck are they gonna claim YGO?

not a single female on the XV cards

Yep, I'm thinking it's for fags.

I'm not going to enjoy all these IPs piled up into single deck where aesthetics clash too much with each other. Only preview from Spider-Man set are EDH only cards from bundle.

i feel the beatrix art is damn disappointing. such a babe ingame and then its this quickly digitally painted rando

Kinda fucked up Lenna doesnt appear in any of these cards

I don't want to say that MTG has become souless

Why not? You'd be correct.

And Omega from XIV is also an alien bioweapon has a long involved questline with a bunch of boss fights exploring its oppressive isolation and inability to deviate from what it was created to do, as well as information about the downfall of the race that created it and sent it to do basically nothing for thousands of years

In the Rift's Library

file.png - 985x589, 414.29K

I like how you can have a bajillion Cids in your deck but they're still subject to the legend rule.

The 16 basic lands of the set, in order of the game they represent. Since these are the default lands, I assume everyone will get them in MTG Arena as long as they log in within a week after the set release. Anyone can confirm or deny that? I don't think even Wizards is Jewish enough to just have a new set and not give you any of the basic lands from it. That'd be unprecedented in Arena history.

Lands.jpg - 2688x3744, 2.43M

Yeah, but they play very well with each other. You just cycle them and the Cid on the battlefield gives everyone a power up for each Cid on the graveyard. It's a cool meme design.

the ff8 island is so nice.. rest is not that iconic imo. maybe ff15 one but its a a trash game.

Why not?

Because I just hopped into the first news of MTG I've heard about since the LotR thing. I dunno if they're had some very good sets inbetween and this is an anomaly. I'm just being cautious due to lack of info.

I'd say Mt. Ordeals, Seventh Heaven, and Besaid are pretty iconic.

Its heavily based off of V's Omega but there is a lot more interaction with it in XIV as opposed to it being a raid boss, such as a questline where it has its own existential crisis

I like all of these except for 7's and 15's 10 is my favorite.

Eh, they had several "hat sets" recently. Hat sets being sets that barely had any actual story or character focus and were meant to just be "What if all characters were X". We had a detective set, an outlaw/cowboy set, a wacky racing set.

People got fed up really fucking fast, specially as it makes it even more clear that WotC doesn't want to bother developing characters and stories anymore and just get other IPs that are already successful to make more immediate money.

Ship graveyard from V for swamp

pretty based

wtf i didnt even recognize besaid at first. weird angle no? the ff9 forest couldve used another pic too

From what I've seen, most of the card art is fucking dogshite.

They should have used crystal tower for FF3's rep.

i think it's based on FFXIV where your class is tied to your weapon, they just got lazy like always and did the same mechanic for I

Most of the premium alt arts made by actual japanese artists are better, but you'll have to pay extra because most of that art is on the collector boosters and those are five times more expensive than the normal boosters.

Should have made one of the swamps marsh cave the ultimate casual filter

Buy an ad faggot

That was on the D&D side of things. Basically it worked like this:

as D&D is the default TTRPG, lots of other games reuse the verbiage and concepts

WotC officially allowed some D&D stuff to be used for 3rd party supplements

game mechanics technically can't be copyrighted

for convenience, the industry used their licence anyway, including D&D's largest competitor

this state is fine for 20 years or so

WotC wants to turn D&D into a video game monetization platform

unfortunately, there's already free software on the market while their project imploded

WotC decides to change the previous licence to shut down these competitors

licence effectively turns any 3rd party creator into a WotC employer(need to report your finances, pay massive cut, grants WotC full control of anything you create, WotC can shut you down for any reason while keeping your stuff)

this change claims to replace the existing licence

if you ever publish anything under the new licence, all your old stuff also falls under it

oh, you had products on shelf? You're WotC's bitch now

Predictably this was a PR disaster and WotC had to reneg on launching the leaked changes. If it interests you, look up the term OGL drama.

just get other IPs that are already successful to make more immediate money

Note that IP holders will claim their cut and not all Universes Beyond are homerun for the companies.
At one point they will face one or two colossal fuck-ups that would discourage forcing crossovers.

1rst swamp : FF IV where you fight that octopus with a bunch of individually-targetable tentacles?
1rst forest : Chocobo forests in FFIV?
1rst mountain : Where Cecil becomes a paladin?
2nd swamp : ship graveyard in FFV?
seventh heaven is.. yea
That's all I've got.
I'd have thought the mountains with the giant tower in FF IV might feature.
Or the swamp with the fuckhuge snake in FF VII

i'd say Mt. Gulg was a better choice. has a fiend in it, has its own unique sprite on the world map, the song that plays in both dungeons is called Mt. Gulg

So essentially, it's an alternate universe Omega and not the one that showed up in V, XII and XIII-2.

At one point they will face one or two colossal fuck-ups that would discourage forcing crossovers.

Doubtful, they'll just stop trying to play coy and just make deal with the biggest, most successful franchises possible. Ass Creed was already on a downturn by the time they released that set. Marvel is always big and ATLA is a modern classic.

1rst

ESL-kun, it's 1st.

Yeah, but part of the cheat code is gonna be when they start doing UBshit sequels, like the second Final Fantasy set.

I'm just glad that some of the cancer is being kept at bay by money. The Marvel cards get transformed into normal Magic cards on Arena because Wizards can't affort the digital license, only the paper license.

guy gets a card (sort of)

no maria

no ultima

no bombs, adamantoise, or iron giant

Odd. Glad Minwu and the leviathan are here.

Speaking of the sequel Final Fantasy set, yes, they will have more space for some of the games they ignored here, and also for the spin offs, but don't think for a second that they won't print another mechanically different Cloud, another Sephiroth, another Kefka, another Tifa, a shitload of other XIV cards, etc.

It's ambiguous on whether it's an alternate universe Omega or not because it used the Interdimensional Rift for FTL jumps at points, it saw and recreated several FF5 bosses including Exdeath and Neo Exdeath, FF6 bosses including Kefka and God Kefka, Chaos from FF1. FF6 makes it a sticker on whether it's supposed to be the same Omega recurring through the series because it didn't appear in any FF6 rerelease, gives the ambiguity on whether it's the same entity or not same as it would imply Midgardsormr is the series' recurring Shinryu and all that would imply for Dissidia, too

>WotC decides to change the previous licence to shut down these competitors

The sounds... really illegal.
You can't change a contract retroactively, can you?
And I'm guessing it was mostly Pathfinder stuff? They can't try to claim Shadowrun, Rogue Trader, or GURPS can they?

wandering minstrel is going to break modern (spelunking you can get with gsz - amulet titan becomes even more consistent)

The cards in that image are in order of what game they're from, one from each

yes. all FF14 iterations of individual series staples are their own unique thing. except for Gilgamesh, Iroha, Shantotto, Lightning, Noctis and Clive

Doesn't have Yasuke on the box

Cowards.

That Emet-selch art is genuine dog shit.

The set come out before Shadows was released. Yasuke wasn't in the set.

I know this isn't all of them since cid got a card in each game except 1, and there are those cards that are just regular magic cards with ff characters on them, but damn. No onion knight? No Xande or CoD? None of Noah's gang?

Never played 14 and never will, but

Dark Confidant reprint

That Ishgard design

That Summoner's Grimoire design

That Primal Garuda design

That Primal Odin design

That Final Days design

That Ultima design

I'm happy with those cards. They're cool.

No Cid of the Lufaine.

reminder that every job/artifact armor card is the artist's own FFXIV character

you will never force hasbro to print your OC and distribute it to the world

I only have the vaguest recollections of the first 3 FFs
And that's mostly about the systems, not the locations.
Still can't ID FF6's location. that's odd considering I've played that game a fair few times.
I've got nothing for FF 8 (kinda reminds me of the dungeon where you fought the Brothers GF I guess?) or 9.

You're forgetting the massive savings that WotC can make by firing more people. No longer need all the world building staff, writers, visual designers, etc. And it's way easier to get an AI to make an already popular character than have to have it create new, consistent worlds and characters. I give it 5 years before artists credits are gone or moved to some shell company.

Mt. Gulg
I honestly don't really remember lol
FF3's Chocobo Forests?
Mt. Ordeals
Ship Graveyard
Mt. Koltz?
7th Hell
Balamb?
Evil Forest?
Besaid
Ronfaure?
Giza Plains?
Lake Bresha?
Mor Dhona
don't remember, L-something?
the first hideaway but I actually already forgot how they called that stretch of blighted land

I'm a bit disappointed with myself, but starting to forget the pain of FF2 might not be the worst thing.

no DOn't listen to Ondore's lies card

soulless

Less popular games got less cards than more popular games

N-n.... NO WAY!!

Giza Plains?

Yes, with those big sunlight absorbing stones for the first quest outside of Rabanastre.

no jobs outside of some shitty equipment mechanic

I simply shan't be purchasing your cards. I'm most certain a gargantuan whale will make up any difference tenfold, but a dime of mine you'll never see.

14

Popular

using AI to generate card art would be complete suicide and everyone knows it, get back into your mod sanctioned AI general

To be fair, they've already been caught doing it, although I'm pretty sure it's the artists doing it without WotC knowing. We're gonna start having artist cancellation waves but instead of being for chuddery it's for AIslop.

unpopular things don't cause seething

He doesn't know

they already used AI lol

its fine to not like mmos but get your head out of your ass

It was already suicide when they got caught, too.

These cards were probably made, or at least in the books to be made, before Dawntrail caused the game to tank.

There was a lot of arguing around the specific phrase that WotC used, their argument being that the contract is only "authored" while they say it is. I didn't pay that much attention to it because it was way less interesting than their attempts to bring all the bullshit of modern gaming to D&D.
Main targets were the digital D&D platforms and Critical Role, with everyone else being collateral damage. I suspect it was a similar situation as Blizzard loosing out on the moba genre, just corpos unable to let anyone else have sucess.

Besaid

And they'll do it again but actually keep it in check, I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't already started the AI process since the heat died down

I don't doubt Wizards' capacity for repeatedly putting their hands on a burning stove, but let's not pretend they won't keep getting caught if they do it.

It wasn't because their money only went up. It will only stop when there are consequences, which won't happen because magic players have no spine.

that's not how i remember it going

I could see them doing a thing where they artificially make non full art versions of those lands that only exist on Arena and give them away, and then you have to buy the full art versions.

That's how I remember it going. People raised a huge stink but revenue didn't dip.

SOVL or soulless?

MTG rarely misses on land art, even to this day. And the ones from the first six games are particularly based for being modern reimaginations of real FF places. Pure SOVL.

everyone knows it

Never underestimate a man's abillity to be a complete fucking idiot when his paycheck depends on it. You think some manager at WotC gives a shit what some nerds think when they can instead grab a AI hype boost to their stock options?
Even if they won't explecitly call for AI, corporate will increase the load on workers more and more until it becomes unavoidable to turn in AI slop because you still need to make 50 other things this week.

XIII really is the lamest Final Fantasy. Easily. Look at this shit. Look at those names. Look at those designs. What were they thinking?

it's funny that there's a horde of flying monkeys surrounding FF14 that keep begging for its downfall at all hours but it made threads for the game a barren wasteland (this is what the flying monkeys wanted to achieve)

Several other games get their whole cast, but for some reason they aren't in these images OP is posting.

You're thinking of the commander cards. That's a separate format and one that isn't even on Magic Arena. Think of it as if Elden Ring had a Final Fantasy crossover and the stuff posted here is from the original game and what you're talking about is from Nightreign.

no yuffie, no rikku?

they have cards in the commander decks

Even from the commander cards, it's only VI, VII, and XIV that get some extra legendaries. XII still gets robbed either ways.

I would only accept an Edward card if it were a vanilla 1/1 for 3 converted mana cost.

There's more XIV

There are a lot of characters that I wish actually got a card, but at least my rat wife made it in

Jill is better in this than in her fucking game. Also

dion comes in with terrance

The rare based and gay combo.

Besaid and the XV desert region look really nice.

OG FF1 only, no spinoff materisl.

For me it's the Amano art
The Amano drawn Liliana from 2019 still costs 110 bucks btw :^)

this does also preclude jack's game

Kino

Jack doesn't have time to read the rules text on cards.

sorry anon jack is also dissidiaslop, he's a package deal

You'd have to be a fan of the series as a whole, I guess. Mt Gulg is one of the best cards on there, along with Mt Koltz.

None of the cards from games with job systems actually interact with the job select mechanic

f.jpg - 1024x1024, 162.35K

are the job select cards even good for anything at all

XVI had a XIV crossover? Guess I missed it entirely, lmao.

What the fuck would "interact" with job select, it's a standalone mechanics.
The only thing that does anything with it at all is Firion because he makes a second dude.

Remember, there are also the commander decks with many other cards not in the standard set.

tifa.png - 286x402, 319.35K

Ah, I see.

Afraid so. But Jack would be too based for Magic. He's a YGO player, but he doesn't read card text and simply clicks the glowing cards in MD.

I want these so fucking bad, and I don't even play magic.

Gonna make a Yuffie deck

yuffie.png - 234x328, 213.02K

4 mana in white for 5/5 worth of stats with a bible's worth of upside on top

Iroha.png - 1920x1080, 1.13M

how would it not

What about the secret lair shit, which games get represented?

Still can't ID FF6's location.

Mt Koltz, where you recruit Sabin. Notice the longass bridge.

Keep in mind the source for this image was a wiki, and that wiki page was proven to have extremly implausible numbers.
In particular, the numbers for FFXI were cited from Famitsu articles that did not mention sales or playercounts in the slightest - meaning it was just totally made up bullshit.

Ohh I want these

Guess it didn't match my mental picture of the area.
Also thought it had more of a 'bowl' top due to where you fight Vargas.

You aren't alone. That's why the collector booster boxes are 700 dollars for 12 packs.

Wow, guess I'll just save the PNGs and/or order some nice proxies.

collector booster boxes are 700 dollars for 12 packs

Jesus, Joseph and Mary what the fuck

i pay 2 to to flash in instant ramen

magic in 2025 everyone

WotC was expected do something ridiculous like triple revenue by 202

rip mtg

Rikku is cool and has a cool design. I'd have liked her in Standard. Fuck Troomander.

Rikku.png - 672x936, 1.28M

Too bad it's gonna get comolelty mogged by the spiderman set, will be great to pick up rare cards for cheap

Give me card recommendations to build around Celes as a commander.

celes.png - 232x322, 211.69K

DO THING DRAW CARD

instant ramen

If they couldn’t get Cup Noodle then they shouldn’t have fucking bothered, literally beyond soulless

THE ULTIMATE FLAVOR EXPERIENCE

Cure

doesn't cure
kek, why not just do shell or something?

Spiderman won't sell as much as FF. I guarantee it

I haven't played in decades at this point... are commander cards not allowed in the normal game?

Yes, they're only allowed in the 4 player do thing draw card over-consistent meme format

Although, for the most part, that's a good thing. There's so many dogshit commander cards that would make proper MTG worse if they weren't sealed off there.

Commander decks will usually contain cards from their own commander set that aren't legal in standard along with some overlap of some of the cards from the corresponding standard set.

How popular is Spider-man these days?
I can't say there's been many pieces of media in the last, say, 5 years that have featured him that I've found interesting/compelling, but he's got generational popularity. So does he still sell?

already the best selling MTG set of all time

How we do stop this shit. I just want in universe magic.

no gunbreaker job card

fuck them

The only consolation I can give you is that it's in the best interest of MTG to still have at least a couple of in-universe sets per year so that they don't become fully dependent on IP. Even Funkopops still release original shit to this day.

Spider-Man: No Way Home was a huge hit. But it's weird. Spider-Man is immensely popular as an icon, but not really something with a dedicated fanbase. There's not much in the way of specific Spider-Man media to follow. Comics have been on a downturn for decades.
The overlap between Marvel/Spider-Man fans and MtG is probably going to be smaller than the overlap between FF fans and MtG.

half of these are jobs

I just want in universe magic.

Did you buy Bloomburrow, Duskmourn, Aetherdrift, or Dragonstorm products?

Persist infinite loop. Run soul sister/ aetherflux for a life gain win or go blood artist effects for a sac win.

well yeah it's an MMO, almost all dedicated characters are NPCs

that is not a do thing draw card commander you stupid fuck

It's especially funny cause that Ashe is really, really bad.

Comics have been on a downturn for decades

The new Ultimate Spider-Man is pretty good, though mainline Spider-Man is beyond parody with how bad it’s gotten

I did in fact buy Bloomburrow and Duskmourn. As well as Tarkir. On Arena, but still.

That's adorable, also, surprising there isn't a single Hroth there

what surprised me was the sea wolf femroe for a paladin, guess even female roes are more popular than hrothgar still

Having the Keeper of the Lake as the zone for XIV is a cute way of showing the transition between 1.0 and ARR
Femroes can be hot a shit, I'd still be one if I didn't value the lala charm of having a stupid walk that ruins cutscenes more

Wait... Was there no onion knight card? THE FUCK?

honestly i like the flat ass, top-heavy physique and boxy face, it sells that they're females to the even boxier, even top-heavier and even more muscular males

also gorilla grip pussy and how sexually forward a lot of femroe NPCs are in XIV lol

Well so long as you voted with your wallet. You have my condolences.

No FF5 Blue Magic card

No Gilgamesh?

Fuck right off no buy

Magic has gone from

My goblin blocks your elf and I cast lightning bolt to finish him off

to

I summon Spider-man and have him and crew the Lunar whale. I then attack with Rick Grimes.

either way a hambeast who sunk $17,000 into his deck is gonna flip the game shop table over

So that's why this auto-saged.

file.png - 353x84, 3.96K

they do it for free etc etc

oh my fucking god the mod thought you made a FFXIV thread
no wonder they got rid of mod feedback

when are we getting blacked game of thrones set ???

Never. Especially now that the new book is never coming out.

Never. Especially now that the new book is never coming out.

I honestly forgot that the series never finished. Season 8 of the show was godawful.
Anywho, I don't think Martin could live up to expectations at this point. It's been too long.

Huh. It double-posted. That's odd.

Yeah, I had a feeling it wasn't going to get finished back when he got all mad about people pestering him about it. That and the fact he kept involving himself in Hollywood productions and video games.

probably never going to finish simply because the show shat up its own back at the end
