It's easy to understand once you realise that this game has no alternate timelines or parallel worlds. Throughout the game your actions in the past triggered the events in the future at the start of the game that lead to you going back to the past in the first place. It's a closed loop, the ending is simply you fulfilling the conditions.

It's not as much of a hassle if you're a true combat Lifer and have your wind element on Hunter, fire/earth greatsword on Merc, light/dark on Mage, Paladin's a free slot. It doesn't have to be that restricted, just as long as you have different elements equipped to each class so you don't have to swap weapons so often.

In my experience though, them "helping" is usually middling. Stealing excellents isn't a huge issue if you just watch them, but they do jack shit to progress gathering without the passives.

Hitting level 100 nodes it feels like you need meet the stat check and go all or nothing with 3 gatherers, or use a 2 crafter 1 gatherer setup if you want to include one.
A party comp with 2 gatherers and 1 crafter confuses the crafter AI and it throws SP randomly to either you or the other two buddies at long intervals, it might as well not exist since any SP given to the AI is wasted.
The safest route is just three crafters, though. Spamming charged heavies and special is enough on the 900 floors when the boss regen passives can't be applied to the gathering nodes with insane health regen.

Rmember you can move the apps around so TPing is near instant too.

After which Rem will fossilize Growler turning him into Skelegon in the future so he can find someone to stop Xernes in the Present, which leads to him taking us back into the Past to help Rem gain confidence and find out about her real identity to ultimately deal with Xernes in her future and come to the conclusion that she should steal Growler's time in the Past to send him into the future to find someone to help.

Shadow monsters drop a purple fire-shaped item, forget what they're called. They're a currency for opening those gates.

now that you've beaten the game, treasure troves can sometimes spawn dark enemies. These dark enemies drop dark fire which you use to unlock the gates.
I've heard the other dark enemies in the late game story areas can drop it too but it's significantly rarer and not worth farming them for it.

There can be up to 3 Don's walking around the map at a time, and the inventory the Don carries is based on the area they're in at the time. The inventory does randomise but not very often at all within the same day; more likely for the Dons' locations to switch to another area than their inventory changing by the hour.

They tell you that the battle will take place in their future (as in the future from Rem's perspective). She'll fight in the past by initially sealing Xernes which is when Mysteria is destroyed and sending Skelegon forward, while you'll fight him when the seal is broken in Present day.

Now on the other hand, to my knowledge it isn't explained wtf Xernes was doing bullying Rem and then disappearing for ages. So I wouldn't say that the story is very well written, especially compared to the first game, but it does at least remain logically consistent which is more than you can say for most media sadly.

Rem and Growler beat Xernes in Skelegon's timeline but it was changed so she wouldn't have to beat him in the future somehow. Pretty sure Mysteria was destroyed soon after the Xernes fight, and we know that the future was changed by telling them to evacuate.
I just assumed Skelegon filled her in on what happened to him and not that she actually remembered it.

Another thing they didn't properly explain, but you could handwave it by assuming her memories fused with the memory of her in Skelegon

The story's kind of dogshit but Rem is cute and Carla was sad and that's all that matters.

Unless Skelegon has some weird paradox immunity he needs to be fossilized somehow. Xernes needs to be foiled somehow as well unless killing him in the present kills him in the past.

The player tells them what to do and what to expect, then disappears back to he future to face Xernes

Mysterians fuck around preparing until the fated day and evacuate beforehand so nobody dies or loses their valuables

They succeed in stopping Xernes, but not defeating him for good because he will revive in 1000 years.

Rem proceeds to steal Growler's time, turning him into an inanimate object until he's revived in Present Day to find a Hero (you).

Skelegon awakens either when the Dark Dragon approaches or in reaction to you, I don't remember, and that sets into motion the game's story.

From there the game is just a series of set ups that make the final battle take place. (you), the player, didn't change the future at all because it always played out this way. The capital was always evacuated before Xernes first attacked.

Rem only remembers her time as the Dragon and her own life lived as a human with Ranoah, after you part ways she lives her life to the fullest with what you taught her and then leaves a final message to her friends to find in the future.

The only major plothole with the main plot is that the player doesn't lose their ability to time jump at any point, so it's kinda unclear if they're just always popping back in over the years or what.

Ginormosia is fucked up because you enter it through a portal but it doesn't matter what time period you're in, you enter the same world every time. I guess it's some sort of 3rd world. It seems like he is aware of it, because unless Carla set it up the Strangelings he made pretty recently were needed to power his castle.

Damn, this game is fun. I would've been destroyed if I was exposed to Runescape earlier in my life but thankfully I haven't been interested because the graphics didn't appeal to me. Something about these sandbox systems and connected gameplay makes my brain feel good man. It's like a nice arcadey anti-gravity racing game you just play for a bit and go on with your daily routine. Turns out the gods are jobbers and a normal ass dragon being given dusty handouts by a former god's guard dog (the guard dog part is what was former) is good enough. Yuelia was also the ONLY person who even BOTHERED to check out Xernes and when she got turned into a statue for who knows how long none of them even went looking for her. The rest of them we're literally oblivious to the planet being blown up.

You find a suspicious purple butterfly that you follow to a portal at the bottom of the Base Camp. When you go through it you reach a corrupted by shadows version of the overworld from the first game, then you retread the steps of the original starting from the final area and going backwards through the game fixing similar issues to the first game as if the heroic acts of the first game are being reversed. With the DLC expansion ending in a confrontation that actually concludes Xernes' storyline properly and satisfyingly as we stop him from turning time backwards to the beginning, all taking place in Castele where the first hero made a home with Yuelia. Like one giant cycle of helping each other that ties into Rem's little ending speech of the main game.

you want to single craft the rare shit from annoying boss enemies or harvest nodes, and you want to bulk craft things you don't care too much about like most material items

Loot quality of treasure chests is an unknown topic due to it being random and having such a huge pool, there's a chance that you're more likely to get rarer boss mats from opening them at floors 700+. I have nothing to back it up, just a hunch that if anything would scale up it would be the chests along with enemy/node HP and damage. Aside from that, you're probably going to burn out quicker repeating 10 trivial floors and going through dozens of saplings at a faster rate because the runs are shorter. But maybe that's more fun than the alternative, as long as you got something else to farm after you collect those boss mats.
