I would, but more so we could get a second source modding renaissance with a completed Source 2 SDK that at least has feature parity with Hammer 1 when it releases and then gets updated later, rather than the limited as fuck modding potential stuff like Alyx Workshop and SteamVR Home has due to having incomplete engine features.

I'm sure a Half Life 3 would be serviceably good and that's all I want from it as long as it wraps up the story so we can stop waiting for more fucking half life over a decade later, but Half Life's legacy to me isn't half life itself, it's shit like Garry's Mod, Sven Coop, Afraid of Monsters, Underhell Chapter 1, and Entropy: Zero 2. If Valve can just give us a good tool set to send us on our way and a conclusion to the story that isn't necessarily satisfying, just not anger worthy, that's where the value of a HL3 comes from for me.

I honestly hope this HLX thing is their replacement for Episode Three before they finally start working on HL3. However, after all these years, I resigned to the fact that they'd probably just gunning for HL3 after Alyx right away to get things over with. Still, in isolation whatever they're planning with HLX sounds kinda exciting imo.

I'm 30 now, so I've got a long time to wait.

no. i played the orange box to death on release because i was a huge fan of war of the worlds as a teenager and loved the aesthetic and plot. those games are not that great. the gunplay is flat, the physics puzzles are mindnumbingly stupid (bro plug this cord in for alyx), the enemy ai is laughably bad. it got by on novel presentation which, in hindsight, was just another step towards movie games, except you can't even skip these lengthy segments where characters just babble at you about plot nonsense because they're not dedicated cutscenes.

id say the halflife 2 formula came together pretty well for the forest strider fight, which was overshadowed immediately by the shitty cliffhanger the series left everyone on.

It's hard to get excited in the current gaming landscape. After a decade or more of mediocre slop, being attacked by devs and journos alike, most people have come to see games simply as content.
All the magic is gone. New games really aren't that special anymore even when they're good. Not to say that Half Life 3 won't be good, but I seriously doubt it will generate the same kind of excitement as the old entries.

Valve has intentionally waited for hype for the Half to die down specifically because they knew they could never meet people's expectations for it.
