Starefield had about 1000 hours of heavy marketing prior to its launch and its from a known western developer that leveraged its entire studio's credibility to reach the pathetic peaks it hit before everyone realized what a shit show it was.
No one even knew 33 was coming til it was released outside of a very small space of individuals. Even the YT cycle on this game was non-existent til the day of release and all the YT channels that did videos on it were small and the videos were obviously rushed during a short play test window.
And now YT is literally FULL of videos from "pros" that have probably played the game for all of 30 hours maximum that are trying to ride the rising algorithm 33 is lifting because of how good it is.

Dodging/parrying is very important, but you can level health and defense to mitigate it. And the turn-based aspect still matters a lot since most characters require at least two turns of setup for max damage

Build synergy is considerably better. Parry comes in clutch for counters and what not (although some of the strings are annoying to find a consistent timing for, esp the Merchants), but most of my damage comes from setting up bursts.

one of my favorite games last year was Romancing SaGa 2 Remake, and RS2 is one of my favorite games of all time. E33 is top-tier.

QTEs for dodging are very relevant on hard mode, and IMO it adds a lot more flavor to the game that way. It forms a large amount of how you defend against attacks, but the game quickly gets much more complicated (ie damage nullification isn't simply about parrying telegraphs). they did a good job developing the complexity while also closing out the game before it got repetitious.
I could future takes on the idea turning it into something that would easily last you the duration of a 100 game.

The game has difficulty options and I'd say up until quite near the end you're not required to nail parry/dodge on normal but it certainly makes the combat more engaging to go for them.

The final 10% it feels like the damage scaling finally overtakes the standard levelling speed so you start having to build towards tankiness or just parry/dodge consistently.

Personally I jumped down to easy for the final two boss fights which also increases the parry windows because I was engaged in the story and wanted the climax more than the brick wall.

Honestly the biggest thing putting me off is the UI. The amount of shit on the screen urks me, and it does a disservice to the game.

If you really want to not bother with parrying stuff, don't hesitate to put a few minute points in defense / vitality. It was enough for me to get a fuckload of leeway on failed parries even on bosses, and you get relatively quickly your first defensive buff. Have fun!

For the best art direction, its "only" usual JRPG environment designs but with a more realistic approach so it's not that groundbreaking but it is beautiful.
