Why did original succeed, while spiritual successors and remake failed?
Until Dawn
What's the point of remaking a movie game that honestly looks pretty good still to this day? I know Naughty Dog does it every year, but they're Snoytranny sacred cows.
What the fuck is Until Dawn?
Stop laundering money thru western studios to produce games nobody wants.
remake of an already good looking game for $70 and worse visuals
delusional
Because it's too novel. Once the gimmick wears out, no one gives a fuck and would rather just bingewatch 6 hours of a miniseries on Netflix
It was a remake, but instead of the "rebuilt but faithful" remake or the "we are just gonna do something else" remake it was "take the original and make it look super ass" remake.
Same reason Telltale failed, it wasn't actually good and the novelty could only sustain it for one or two titles.
Pure novelty is good, that's inherent to entertainment, word of mouth moved a lot of copies, but everyone collectively agreed that playing it was ass, replaying it was hideously unrewarding because the choices don't matter for shit - and also ensured that people didn't really argue or talk about the choices - and the characters were kinda just annoying so nobody cared if they died anyway.
That's not something you can sustain a genre on, Until Dawn's fate was already sealed by the first game. Same with Telltale.
Movie game fatigue
Why did original succeed
sony
while spiritual successors failed
lack of sony
remake failed
sony
idiots
A company run by chickens
The gimick is a one and done thing. After one of these games you "get it."
Just like telltale games, i loved Wolf Among Us when i played it once but then i saw how it all worked and the magic was gone
the original was tell tale movie tier game that everyone already knows how it goes and there is no need to replay it.
there is also a movie on the way somehow.
It's only a gimmick because they half-ass it every time. If they committed, it'd be a mechanic.
It's seems that Sony is in full retardo mode trying to turn their exclusive franchises into household names, only to have it blow up on their faces every time (except for TLOU) The Horizon Zero Dawn film is setting up to be a disaster too.
Consumer level of awareness, knowledge, and standards goes up over time.
At the time original released it was an okay game for casual gamers. In current market people expect more and are more aware of how low it ranks in comparison to the other high-quality products.
Sony is the Daikatana of the modern era.
Them pushing HZD so hard makes no sense, that hasn't had any cultural staying power in the entire 8 years it's been around, retire it already.
except for TLOU
I'd argue that the GOW reboot has modern culture by the balls, too. Movie/stream series of that would do well I think.
hmmm... i wonder why
Because I willed it so.
Slasher horror movie game. Light on the gameplay.
The hollywood types want to skip the first 3 games entirely and jump right to Dad of war..
Good. Fuck moviegameslop cancer.
Fuck snoy.
this, Sony can fuck off.
Why did original succeed
It was one of the few PS4 exclusives in the first half of its life, it released in a time where people were starved for more PS4 content, and Sony marketed the shit out of it.
The hollywood types want to skip the first 3 games entirely and jump right to Dad of war..
Well yeah. I didn't say it'd be good, just that it'd be successful. Just like the reboot series itself. The most the original would ever get is some pithy offline referencing the old trilogy or whatever.
other high-quality products.
like what? the oblivion remaster? people don't get smarter over time, they get dumber. The reason something sells bad these days, is because they didn't pay streamers enough to shill their shit.
It was pushed that much because the director wanted to become CEO/company's director. He succeeded, but after Concord fiasko Japan take a closer look at "sale numbers" and his work/plan in general which caused his demotion.
TLOU isn't even good, people were just told it was good because a jew made it and all the publications wanted it to succeed.
I didn't know that, go figure.
I really liked the original game, but I have no faith a remake in Current Year will improve it
Exactly, this shit doesn't even surprise me anymore
This, I've never heard anyone say they like TLoU outside of people on the internet. zero discussion about the game IRL.
people won't pay for a game that never needed to exist in the first place
I'm shocked.
Like Elden Ring, Expedition 33, Black Myth, BG3, Palworld, Monster Hunter. And yes, Oblivion Remaster too. I said over time, meaning it didn't just start last week no matter how hard your contrarian ass wants to be contrarian so you can be contrarian. What, you think you called me out because you pointed out an example of a successful remaster that you don't agree deserves success? There has been a half a decade plus of studios dropping entertaining games that break the corpo-focused bullshit, and yes, level of entertainment in an entertainment product is a sign of quality, regardless of the polish of the game itself. You're a fucking nobody, these games performed amazingly, so excuse me if I don't bend the knee to your bitch ass schizo need to constantly contradict people. Go fuck yourself, if you're looking for your balls, I didn't take them so ride off my dick and go cope with someone stupid enough to fall for the copy-pasted decades old tactics for lobotomy cases.
TLoU's audience doesn't really talk about games. They're stepdads with filipino wives who say "oh I love that game it had great graphics made me appreciate my wife's kids more" or some shit. Like no neural use whatsoever, not even the parroting shitposting Anon Babble loves.
zoomers have such bad taste in games
Dark Anthology games got progreasively worse, the vr game and movie were god awful. The werewolf game was pretty good.
Its a shame that amongst all the cinematic games normalfags arent into the one or two actually good movie games
>Why did original succeed
sony
like concord?
Like Elden Ring, Expedition 33, Black Myth, BG3, Palworld, Monster Hunter. And yes, Oblivion Remaster too.
Because the "remaster" looked like fucking shit.
Why did the remake fail?
Why would I pay for a half decent game again with only a slight graphical upgrade?
It wasn't a GOTY game that would warrant a re-release. It was fun yes but it isn't worth experiencing again. The only thing that made it interesting was how it used windigo folklore which was rare at the time.
Horizon can be an all ages franchise that TLoU and GoW can't. This is the most important reason that they're pushing it so much.
can be
Nope.
There's no gratuitous violence or any sexual content, robot dinosaurs is an easy sell for all ages. That's why they made the Lego game anyways. It didn't succeed but that was the plan.
this came out already?
year ago, movie came out week or two ago it flopped hard
I didn't even know they were remaking the first one
i have never seen a commerical or advertising for either one wtf
Budget of the movie was 16 mil, so I don't think it flopped, it could be in plus or even
Still kind of in the ballpark that it's no major success, so doubt they'll bother with sequels
It's still not that great, also critics and public didn't like it
It didn't succeed
Because there's no shot it'll make it. It's trash.
Same with astrobot, it's so generic.
Replacing artistic atmospheric lighting with realistic lighting is their biggest, hugest fucking mistake and we all know lighting is one of the most important factor in horror
Indian outsource can't into baked lightning, it's not even funny anymore
The game is far too recent and far too niche to warrant a remaster. The original wasn't exactly printing money, so I have no idea what the fuck they were thinking in remastering and porting it to PS5.
