You can't' say that BG3 over TotK was a "Terrible" pick. I can see why you'd go with TotK but BG3 is still getting 100k+ players for a fucking hardcore CRPG like 2 years after release. The game completely changed how people viewed CRPGs.
However, one thing people forget about BG3 and I think is actually more in your favor is how fucking buggy it was on release. I got to Act 3 and the game completely broke. I could no longer turn in most quests and I had to start over after a month straight of constant patches. I love the game, but that really soured me on it for a while. TotK was pretty flawless in terms of bugs from the get go.

Maybe BB would have won if more than a few hundred thousand people could play it.

I honestly thought W3 deserved it more even though I had more fun with BB. BB just had too many issues with load times and performance and TW3 looked more ambitious for the time (a better open world than MGS 5 and Fallout 4 too).

Witcher 3 was one of those cultural milestone games whether it was deserves or not. In retrospect the combat is fucking awful, but the writing, open world, music, and atmosphere are great. That sort of stuff seems to generally factor into GotY for these types of games.
Astrobot only won it to try to put a middle finger to the games industry. It is a good game, just to be clear (it actually made me dust off my PS5), but it is just the limited budget/team in an era of layoffs and ballooning costs that made it win. It was virtue signaling.

If you count remakes & remasters then honestly the best I've played this year is NG2 Black, but disregarding that Split Fiction and City of the Wolves are pretty great though not amazing. MH Wilds and Pirate Yakuza were disappointing, not much into the kinds of RPGs KCDII & E33 are, and I liked Eternal Strands but the final act was really weak which dragged it down. Doom, Bananza, Shinobi, both new Ninja Gaiden games, Absolum, Fuga 3, and a handful of indies look like potential GOTYCs for me. MK World looks good but not amazing, can't really say I'm interested in Prime 4, NightReign, Borderlands, Death Stranding, or Silksong.

E33 is a critically acclaimed new ip from an underdog team. It will get extra points with critics for being a return to a classic genre, the stellar art direction and music, it being made by a French team so there’s more global representation/prestige, and having a cast of mostly women.
DS2 looks a lot more interesting and action heavy than the first game, which has built up a strong fanbase too. Kojima knows how to do weird and unexpected things and this looks like his most ambitious game yet. If it doesn’t win GOTY this year, after how hard he’s been trying to win it for years, and with GTA6 removed from the competition too, I think Kojima will become very depressed.

I'm guessing E33, but man that list is bleak. And because of the uncertainty that surrounded GTA6's release date, there's nothing much else for this year, unless Nintendo drops a surprise announcement in June or something.

We still have yet to see if DS2 is gonna actually have good gameplay or not. It seems like they have shown off much more in the trailers, but if it is a literal walking simulator again then fuck it. Funny thing is that turn-based RPGs came back years ago, people keep acting like they died because Final Fantasy ditched it and Soulslikes are in, and then a major one releases and gets good reviews that say "TURN-BASED GAMES ARE BACK BABY". It happens like every 9 months at this point since last year both Infinite Wealth & Metaphor got that treatment, if you count remakes then even more often since DQ3 HD2D did really well too.

It's a great game with great gameplay. It has great build variety, with a deep character building system that affects how each run plays, with a lot of choices and options on how to approach each quest and attributes that affect how effective weapons has. Impacts have a lot of feedback, gore is developed and very satisfying and the open world has one of most curated game progression ever. It is factually one of the best RPGs ever made and has everything Witcher 3 lacks and fails at, so a more than apt comparison to highlight how The Witcher 3 is a turd coated in production value and with little substance

Bloodborne has better gameplay than MGS5 that's for sure. MGS5 had worse stealth than Splinter Cell Chaos Theory and the open world design handicaps it. Bloodborne felt more like a complete gameplay experience than it and more content rich.
