A well tailored experience will always be better than a open ended one. Pokemon hasn't been good for over 10 years.
Lol
you are free go wherever you want
with wherever pokemon you like
Pokemon has strayed from what made it good.
i would never stop a troupe of dancers from dancing
Fuck everything after Emerald.
*crystal
I have open world fatigue.
they make pills for that now
Man, zoomer "memes" really are a special breed of obnoxious, huh?
but scarlet and violet is a terrible game lol
isn't the framerate like 20? and the world is basically a giant desert?
Kanto- Good
Johto - Good
Hoeen - Too much water, shit
Sinnoh - Too much snow, no fire mon suck ass pokedex, worse gen
Unova - Return to form, and the best peak of pokemon
everything else shit.
go here
now go there
after that go bac to here
ezpz
YOU CAN GO WHEREVER YOU WANT
don't want to go anywhere
close game
bw2 has the most kinoest maps thoughever
the pokemon designs in kalos and alola were pretty good, but fuck they made the most boring possible games to stick them in
Now this is shitposting
Johto >Good
Never was
Too much water
Brainlet take.
Hoenn is objectively the one time Pokemon got it right.
Nah, gen 4 was still good, especially if you include the spin-off games.
Gen 9 is the only Pokeman I have enjoyed since HGSS
hoenn is the only pokemon game i've dropped, and i've dropped it several times at this point. it's miserably boring and filled with some of the ugliest pokemon they've ever created
fuck everything after the game that prevented you from transferring over your mons and start fresh
real niggas fuck everything after gen 2
pissed me off so much as a kid i stopped paying attention to the series for years after
Funny how all the popular ROM Hacks that still have millions of players are all based in Hoenn map -> just with new gen mechanics and all the new pokemon huh...
I never played SV because the artstyle is fucking ugly, but isn't the open world a meme?
Apparently you can't go "anywhere", you're level-gated or something.
what is even the point of still doing the 'region based off a real country' if the whole map is just going to be bland grasslands and occasional other type of ground
you wouldn't know its supposed to be spain if they didn't have the npc's say por favor every once in a while
what starter do I choose for the brown wife please?
Hoenn is the ONLY one you dropped? And this isn't hyperbole, you really admitting to having bad taste like that?
nta but same here. i dropped gen 3 both when it originally came out and also the remake. i've completed every other main series pokemon game.
The AI in Pokémon is so bad that the only way to have fun is to challenge the gyms that are 20+ levels over you. The big issue is that once you do that you have to fight all the gay baby starter gyms while overlevled
People who are bad at the game whine about it not being Bethesda-slop.
i haven't bothered trying to play all of them, but yes, it is the only one i have ever dropped. people told me, oh you just need to play emerald it's the real way to experience hoenn, so i tried that and it sucked just the same. completely uninteresting games
the fun romhacks are exclusively based on frlg
Unovatoddler
The sprite animations, on the small DS screens especially were blurry messes. Crystal had better looking animated sprites.
bad at the game
implying it's not designed for literal 12 year olds to beat with their starter alone
*Breathes in*
other than RR name one
clover
Nemona the cutest is not ugly!
Anon, it was his childhood, which means it's immune to criticism. He thinks Gen III is the future Trunks to Gen I's Goku and Gen II's Vegeta, when it's actually kid Trunks and followed by Goten.
AHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAH
Yes. Skyrim-babies are worse at video games than most children nowadays.
Open world is and will always be a meme
There's literally nothing wrong with hallways and linearity.

For no reason.
A. Stop Samefagging
B. Sorry for laughing I never actually played it. I just know it's some fakemon shit.
I'll stick with gen 1 spaghetti code
Woah, almost like the gba hacking scene is huge or something. Don't look to your right. You'll see the wall of literally infinite fire emblem romhacks.
this man is a youtube zoomer
"platinum"
Im js your irrational hatred for Hoenn makes no sense since it is objectively the most fun, most memorable and most replayable map.
Kanto is linear and boring. Johto is overrate af.
Sex with Dendra
I'm 35 years old and unmarried.
Pretty much. Sony fanboys just keep losing
*HGSS
the 2nd part was not necessary
What would be my ideal pokemon region?
I hate Fairy Type
A region that is hell for Fairy Type Pokémon
A region where having a Fairy Type Pokémon is the worst idea ever
A region where all of its legendaries and uniques pokemons are resistant and effective against Fairy Type
A region where all of the starters are effective and you register Fairy Type
I hate mimikyu
This is absolutely correct. The only flaw in SV's world was a lack of level scaling, which implied a list for you to follow, but you absolutely could go wherever you wanted from the start, and that was awesome. I remember doing a few bosses out of order by accident, and those battles were both challenging and fun. Pokemon games should focus on evolving this formula, fuck the corridors.
i swear this template is always just a sign for a dogshit thread
There are different types of linearity
There's a difference between walking through Hau'oli City, where it's an upside-down U, and every 5 seconds there's a block to show you a cutscene or tutorial and telling you that you can't do anything until you go through all the mandatory scenes, all while blocking off shortcuts with things like "they just painted these gate doors so you can't open them" or an arbitrary NPC/Tauros. Then the game shows you a photo album in the credits telling you that you had such a fun time going on what is essentially a guided tour through hallways with mandatory stops at each point of interest. It has all the fun of an interactive DVD menu.
Then there are routes with branching paths, avoidable trainers, hidden shortcuts or ways to progress through the route (ie. bike paths that overhang the bogs in Sinnoh), leaving the player to navigate and make decisions at their leisure. It's especially notable in Gen I where progression is mostly based on item checks rather than arbitrary story flags.
This borty is malding af
Gen 6+ could never.
Just because you started with and have nostalgia for Hoenn doesn't make your opinion valid.
Pokemon's never been about going where you want, it's about feeling like you can go wherever you want (and just happening to choose to go in the right direction). It's about capturing the imagination. If it can achieve that, the rest is completely irrelevant. Granted, I am (and was) well out of the target demographic, but that's what I hated the most about Sun and Moon, that at no point did it feel like you were going on your own adventure (I stopped paying attention after, so I don't know about the later games).
Fact: pokemon peaked when I was eight years old, and me and the other kids would pretend to be pokemon during recess.
WHO IS MAKING ALL THESE IMAGES?!?!
ooohhh gigachad is in MY game so it's gooood
WHO SITS DOWN AND ACTUALLY CREATES THEM OUT OF THEIR OWN FREE TIME?!
Yeah the openworld shit sucks ass
None of the areas are worth exploring or fun to explore at all, its just empty fields
The "dungeons" of older titles were simply better and they need to return to that
Dungeons in the older titles were mostly linear boring hallways with random encounters up the ass. Rarely did they ever present an interesting challenge of any kind.
?
?
have to do the whole thing twice to get Heatran
god I hate diamond so much
the only good post here
The snow slide was way more fun than that abomination.
no it wasn't.
Why did she say she's single anyway?
gen 3 and 4 spinoffs were insane, legit as good if not potentially better than the mainline games in some case. And I'm not just thinking about Mystery Dungeon, but also Ranger, Colosseum Poképark, battle revolution... we were eating good. They dropped the ball so hard with spinoffs starting gen 5.
Gen 5
Conquest
PokePark 2
Rumble Blast
Gates to Infinity
?
Have more freedom to explore the world in scarlet and violet
Have to spend 10 hours watching constant forced cutscenes you can't skip
Meanwhile the older games have zero cutscenes and can just be played.
The sprite animations, on the small DS screens especially
Not how that works, the DS resolution was smaller than the 3DS and emulated resolutions so it doesn't look blurry.
When was the last time you had your eyes checked?
fpbp
What the fuck does that even mean?
has anyone ever liked the cutscenes? why do they keep putting them in? i guess i didn't hate the bit in bw2 where they shoot the ice beam, but that's it
WHO IS MAKING ALL THESE IMAGES?!?!
If it has a wojak or gigachad then there's a 90% chance that it was the sharty.
All they have are wojaks, gigachad and BBC
*BW
gates was complete ass compared to explorers
Rumble blast was okayish, I found it really frustrating to play.
Haven't played conquest nor PokéPark 2 I'll admit. the latter I'd like to gave a shot cause I actually really enjoyed Poképark 1. Its babygame, but strangely comfy.
Shame it was even easier than XY
Sinnoh - Too much snow
Literally about two routes and Mt Coronet
To catch suitors
Pinball RS is a pretty good pinball game.
The Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team were solid, though they were surpassed by Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky. The Wiiware Mystery Dungeons probably aren't as good.
Colosseum and XD have that weird Gen III stank to them, but I think they're much better than Battle Revolution.
Channel is okay, it's Hey You, Pikachu 2.
Dash is apparently shit, haven't played it though.
I like the aesthetic of Box more than Ranch, but Ranch has more going on. They hardly qualify as games though.
Trozei is a solid puzzle game in the style of Tetris, Panel de Pon, Puyo Puyo, etc.
All the Ranger games are great, Gen III and IV.
Rumble is Rumble, I don't know how many people get excited over it.
Never touched PokéPark.
Conquest is well-loved.
But I think instead of separating spin-offs into Gen III/IV/V, it's better to separate them into hardware, and the DS spin-off games tend to be Pokémon at its best.
The GBA has almost nothing for spin-offs, but what it does have is good.
I'd place the GameCube spin-off output above the Wii, but I still think the N64 wins overall, the Stadium games are just that good.
The 3DS spin-offs were decent to mediocre, with some of them being freemium garbage. Nothing really surpassed the heights of the DS era, and that's true of the mainline games too.
This is the Eternal truth
plus Route 216 is easy contender for one of the best tracks of the game
Lmao, the only differences are fucking 4 bridges being different and the two blue niggas being in a different position.
this guy gets it.
Sorry, she isnt haggy enough for me
Will we ever get a good pokemon game?
Platinum saved Gen 4 and is worth playing. Fuck Gen5 and onward.
BIG TIME FPBP
my favorite is (h)g/(s)s
the last game I even >60% enjoyed was platinum
I understand demographics and trends change, but holy fuck their idea of a "open world" pokemon game is just not fun
Gen 1-5 are right there
It means that he views Gen III as the natural third pillar to Gen I and II, part of "original Pokémon", the classic trio, but it's actually the point most people stopped before. Gen III fans are not one of the big boys, they're after the timeskip, the wacky kid antics. No matter how bravado kid Trunks puts on, he's no future Trunks and he's stuck at the kids table with Goten (Gen IV).
The problem is that the deep snow mechanic makes it longer than even the amount of water in hoenn.
You're not really level gated in this game, you can do any portion of it at any level, the "issue" is that there are not dynamic levels. You're meant to be guided by the pokemon center advice on about what to tackle first and what to do later. You can even complete each story line simultaneously or separatedly. But arguably the "hardest" challenges in the plot are the team star battles simply because the custom vehicle battle. The rest is the normal story driven progression league and the final segment about the Area Zero.
i think this is right, the break between 2 and 3 is more stark than between any other generation
Gen 1 - Pilaf
Gen 2 - King Piccolo
Gen 3 - Saiyan Saga
Gen 4 - Namek Saga
Gen 5 - Mirai Trunks/Android Saga
Gen 6 - Buu Saga
Gen 7 - Super
Gen 8 - GT
Gen 9 - Super Manga
you can go anywhere and do anything and nothing fucking matters! wow!
but it's actually the point most people stopped before. Gen III fans are not one of the big boys
Dude, that's fucking stupid since it set the foundation for Pokemon going forward. A more apt comparison would be 23rd World tournament Goku where his character became the one we're all acquainted with from Z to Super.
Are you trying to say gen 7 is better than 9?
Yes.
I need to be told how to have fun because I'm a low IQ bugman
We know
Reddit is down the hall and to the left
My wet farts are better than 9.
Theory time, the Japanese versions have difficulty options for the language to help children learn the kanji while they play. They probably started adding more cutscenes so stupid Japanese kids can learn kanji better. That's probably why they won't even voice it.
a
What is the Goku Black of Pokemon?
Let me fix this
Gen 1 - Pilaf
Gen 2 - 21st Budokai
Gen 3 - King Piccolo/23rd Budokai
Gen 4 - Saiyan Saga
Gen 5 - Namek Saga
Gen 6 - Cell Saga
Gen 7 - GT
Gen 8 - Daima
Gen 9 - Super
LGPE
I'm okay with this.
The Sinjoh Arceus cutscene is kino of the highest order even if it was just limited to an event. Do more cool shit like that
>Gen 5 - Namek Saga
Based.
huh, when did they add that? i assumed it was all still just unreadable lines of hiragana
Gen 5 ,6 and 7 that high
Zoomer spotted lmao
literally just Googled images
Johto - Good
johto is dogshit
Hoeen - Too much water, shit
nah, diving is the peak of pokemon exploration
Too much snow, no fire mon suck ass pokedex
lmao 2 fucking routes, and platinum's dex is easily has more viable pokemon than anything before it
Unova - Return to form, and the best peak of pokemon
literally the same fucking shit but forced to used shitty designs
b2w2 is kino though
BDSP
I to think the best way to have a good story delivered is by just throwing the whole manuscript on the floor and picking up random pages. Nobody tells me what order to read a book in!
Kanji support was added the same time they advertised the protagonists as appearing older than previous protagonists and started being more focused on the story, so I think it was them trying to be more conscientious of their older players while still designing the game itself for younger players with how navigation was simplified. Remember that kanji mode is an optional mode, not mandatory (outside of 円 which appears in every game and is like seeing $). But it also requires twice the space for the game's script since they need a kana-only version.
If the next game has an open world AND pre-made dungeons it'd be way better. Also gym leader level scaling based on badges/tasks completed.
it's ok when other games do it.
I started with red/blue
I was there from the beginning
I am the most qualified to give an opinion on pokemon games
probably more than twice the space, since it adds significantly more characters that have to be possible to render
BW1, as pointed out it was when they made a more mature story and setting
So true!
implying I care about FF after they turned it into an action game
Gen 1 has to be the 21st budoukai, you got both the criminal gang and then the tournamet. Oak even doubles as a Jackie Chun expy because you were meant to face him at the end.
Gen 2 can be your Piccolo and 23rd Budoukai at the end because you even have a rivalry with the son of Giovanni.
Gen 3 is the Saiyan Sage because there's more space themes, Deoxys even comes from space to invade.
Gen 4 is more namek, a power hungry fellow that runs a company is systematically hunting for the plot devices to get a hold of a super powerful being only for you to stop it. Barry is more of a Vegeta expy because he wants to prove his pedigree.
Gen 5 is Cell Saga but weirdly since the lab insect creature is Genesect. Fusions happen here.
Gen 6 is more Buu, there's this cocoon of a super evil being and the main antagonist wanted to revive it to use as a weapon. Gets out of control. Mega evolution is SS3
Gen 7 is weird because SM are Super, multiverse shit and stuff but USUM is GT with that Rainbow Rocket alt reality shit with villains from the past returning to fuck shit and the whole nekrozma thing being like the evil dragonballs.
Gen 8 is arguably filler here.
Gen 9 is Xenoverse/Heroes tier shit
is the argument of this image that there is no difference in design philosophy from one game to the next? would any game freak designer even agree to that statement?
ADHDtard seething at the mere thought a game isn't a giant(empty) sandbox
Is that what you got from that image?
Smaller worlds give a bigger emphases to incredible detail.
Just look at Metroid Prime. It's pretty linear outside of some unintended sequence breaks but world design is excellent.
It's obviously about selective nitpicking and highlighting with zero actual objectivity taking place. Basically what everyone here is doing in pretty much any argument.
I wouldn't call it more "mature", it's written far too blatantly and lacks any subtlety, depth, or nuance, even compared to previous games where story wasn't a focus. But more dramatic stories inherently seem more mature.
The narrative of Pokémon games was always inspired by Stand By Me, it's supposed to be a coming of age story of a boy and the things he comes across on a summer journey. It's easy to think that the evil teams and Legendary Pokémon are the story of the game, but they're not. One look at the boxes of the original Gold and Silver should tell you that's not the case as Ho-Oh and Lugia are completely optional. Those narrative events are mostly disconnected from the various other events like battling Gym Leaders, overcoming your rival, exploring dungeons, catching Pokémon, and everything else you do. It's the story of YOU, from your humble beginnings to standing at the peak. Black and White take a more standard shounen story that is about the bad guys and Legendary Pokémon, it's why it's the climax of the game that leads to the credits while becoming Champion is a post-game thing. But I think that being more dramatic doesn't make it more mature.
I disagree but i respect your opinion, thanks for actually elaborating instead of just shitposting
The template is made by pajeets
vidya is books
Kek
Gen 1 has to be the 21st budoukai, you got both the criminal gang and then the tournamet.
It's not about comparisons to the arc but what the represent to the series. Pilaf and Gen 1 are the beginnings where they're still figuring things out.
Gen 2 is where they start refining things but it isn't quite perfect so 21st world tournament to Piccolo is fine.
Gen 3 sets the stage for what's to come for the rest of the series much like Piccolo and Majunior moved the series from small fights with a few gimmicks to fights that can cause large scale damage.
Gen 4 is more of the same but not quite as impactful on the series, it just adds some lore here and there but not too different from what we had in the previous game like the saiyan saga
Gen 5 is Namek because despite still following the same formula that was set up in gen 3 it brought some massive changes like the addition of a new set of Balls and saiyan did.
Gen 6 is Cell, a massive step down from the previous game that was influenced less by the creator and more by the audience having changes to appeal to more people rather than what the creator actually wanted.
Gen 7 was such a drastic step away from what every pokemon game before it was that it had to be GT, complete with annoying sidekick designed to appeal to the kids.
Gen 8 tried to appeal to everyone having overworld encounters but also having random encounters but it ultimately ended up being a mess much like Daima tried to reconcile every part of dragonball but ended up not being very good. Granted the difference between them is that Daima at least had decent presentation.
Gen 9 is super being generally good but inconsistent with it ultimately ending on a pretty high note.
Except SV is still linear as fuck because the game only has an illusion of an open world. There's no level scaling, so running to the endgame areas right at the start means you're going to get your ass kicked. There's no reason not to do things in the "intended" order because your reward for sequence breaking and doing things out of order is the things you were supposed to do earlier are now going to be even easier.
Scarlet and Violet was the worst Switch game, not even worth a fucking pirate
open world is an illusion
Hilda best girl so gen V is goat
putting Professor Oak over a map of Unova, implying that everything before gen 5 is the same
I can tell you're a retarded zoomer, because people who were around when gen 5 came out would know gen one fans shit on it relentlessly for being restrictive and uncreative.
gen one fans shit on it relentlessly for being restrictive and uncreative.
Dude, you can't just say "gen one fans" and then make up a reason that doesn't fit.
They hated it purely because they couldn't use older pokemon.
*BW2
TRVTH NUKE, Gen 4 features the most forgettable region, soundtrack, characters and is SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW as fuck.
They could use them. Just not in the main game. Which was actually the case in Gen 4 first, funny enough, but the narrative didn't notice that one.
If it wasn't for the glaring technical issues SV would be one of the best Pokemon games. Honestly, even with the issues it still is one of the better games.
Agreed. Hoenn is actually what Johto critics claim Johto is, just filled to the brim with boring shitmons. Unironically would never play a Hoenn game again if it wasn't for the Battle Frontier.
Seethe all you want, but Pokemon was good until USUM.
Eh we got Cynthia and Alola lolis afterwards. It isn't all bad.
Pokemon was never good, you were just a kid.
Cynthia is the best thing to ever come out of a Pokemon game since 2001.
Scarlet and Violet
There's like 45min-1hr of dialogue and tutorials before the open world stuff, though.
adhd bros...
two of the top three generations pictured
note: 2 and 8 are bottom two for reference
2 is top 3.
Good taste but I prefer the follow up I drew for this
keep it to yourself
Nah, it didn’t really go to shit until after USUM
one of the only regions to have an area in smash
most popular song
most popular character
everyone plays old pokemon shit with speedup anyway
holy faggot
one of the only regions to have an area in smash
Anon, that's not really special given at the time of ultimate's release all but gen 2 and 3 had stages in a smash game. Hell Kalos is the only one with two.
>most popular song
>most popular character
And where does that information come from?
>everyone plays old pokemon shit with speedup anyway
And if they're using real hardware like most people?
Anon, that's not really special given at the time of ultimate's release all but gen 2 and 3
yeah it is, being the first since kanto and not having a generic ass pokemon league instead of an actual area form the region like spear pillar like most of the other stages lol
And where does that information come from?
sensatez.net
real hardware
then you would stop being a spastic retard and take your ADHD medication
and not having a generic ass pokemon league instead
How is spear pillar any better in that regard? It's basically the same as the Unova league except that has better gimmicks.
It's basically the same
nope, there's 2 leagues. spear pillar wins, stay mad with your repeated cuckstage!
there's 2 leagues
Are you just going by the name and not what they are? They're both flat stages with two platforms where pokemon are summoned to do some kind of gimmick.
They're pretty much the same only Unova's stage expands over time with N's castle and more pokemon can appear.
And then you get long ass cutscenes every time you hit an objective too. It would be fine if the scenes had decent writing or any production value at all but its pokemon so you know thats not gonna happen
pokemon stadium
pokemon stadium 2
unova league
kalos league
silence cuckstager, pillar won
ive been playing emerald for a few months now with week breaks in between because its boring and the graphics are gay
absolutely based
Unova - Return to form, and the best peak of pokemon
nice bait, underagefag
Just play a romhack. Vanilla Emerald is overrated by spica who can emulate it on their shitty phones. Gen 3 is definitely the worst of the 2D gens
Its pretty funny that the hardest block pushing puzzle in Gen4 was the same one as the very first puzzle you get in Gen3
there's no monetary incentive for these games to be good.
Switch 2 will fix it
Pokemon was at its peak when the environment was actively hostile. Dungeons that you could get lost in and had lots of exploration opportunities and puzzles.
Gen 1 and 2 had these pretty frequently (Mt. Moon, Power Plant, Seafoam Islands, Dark Cave, Sacred Tower, Rocket Hideout(s), Ice Cave, that cave where you get Tyrogue, etc...) but I don't remember much on that level in gen 3. Gen 4 tried with the main mountain with multiple entry points that you criss crossed through the game but really it was that and the hidden dungeon where you find Giratina and that's all I remember.
Gen 5 onward had no dungeons that stood out to me.
Pokemon was at its peak when the environment was actively hostile. Dungeons that you could get lost in and had lots of exploration opportunities and puzzles.
So never.
no main series pokemon game has ever had somewhere you can get lost, they are literally made for 5 year olds
Both are shit for different reasons and using wojaks is not going to convince anyone but spergs.
OR/AS are better than R/S/E and frontierfags should kill themselves.
In a franchise full of baby games for retards, the gen 3 remakes are the most retarded brain dead baby games of all of them.
No this image is dumb as fuck. Pokemon always worked best with it was a much lower scale isometric grid based game.
Honestly, I can’t stand the idea of open world Pokémon games. To me it’s a mistake that removes the cool complexity of routes, their designs, and how they connect to different areas. The maps are so fun to piece together when routes aren’t just empty spaces between a town and a lighthouse or something. I love the feeling of going through a route and coming to a new city or town, but that feeling is lost in the open world. One of my favorite parts of playing in new Pokemon regions is exploring new cities and admiring the architecture and distinct styles of each place. I also enjoy going inside all of the buildings, or at least some of them. Scarlet and Violet are pretty infamous for having bad cities, and although people have acknowledged it I don’t have much hope the next games will rectify it. To me it doesn’t feel like advancement, it just makes the regions feel less like a cool place to explore.
you're an idiot if you think there has been any meaningful difficulty in any way, shape or form in a pokemon game. And don't give me that crap that you think oras is even easier, it's literally the exact same shit.
